Wingate by Wyndham Manhattan Midtown

The location is great. Nice place, nice big rooms (big for NY standard) and modern except for the A/​C unit is a bit noisy and dated. The staff is very friendly. Cleaning staff need to be retrained though, room sheets were still dirty from previous night. Showers were not cleaned properly. The breakfast is good and filling. WIFI is OK, but if you can get the wired one is GREAT. LCD modern TV but with very limited channel selection. Fridge and microwave in room is a plus. Safe box in room. The restaurant on site is a plus if you are too tired to go out to eat but its very hip. Walking distance to two Subway lines which is great. Parking validation available 1.5 blocks away which is great. Will stay again.

I have stayed here many times before but after my last stay in March I will never stay here again. As the elevators opened to our floor there was an overwhelming smell of weed. We didn’t really think much of it so we just went straight to our room. The guests in the room right next to us were blasting rap music at midnight. It was clear that they were smoking weed in their hotel room. We immediately called down to the front desk and complained. We had told them the people next to us were blasting music, yelling and smoking but they did not do anything. They did not come up to the floor at all. After about an hour of back and forth with the front desk they finally moved us to a new room. No one came to help move all our stuff. We quickly packed up and walked into the new room. The bed wasn’t even made. It was now 1 am and we are exhausted but we now had to call back to the front desk for sheets to be brought to our room. After all the trouble we had went through they didn’t even reduce our price. Horrible experience. Will never come back.

I’m from California and I was in Manhattan for about two weeks for a study tour. The first week was awesome, I stayed at a different hotel by Times Square but had to transfer here after some arrangements were made with my boyfriend leaving earlier. So, the second week for my studies was arranged at this hotel. WiFi is vital to me so when I was told there was WiFi service, I, of course, expected it to work. It did not. Not for any of my other colleagues in different rooms. Overall, it wasn’t the best hotel I’ve been to, that’s for sure. Also, the first room I was placed in smelled like… dingy cologne if that makes any sense.

This is a noisy hotel (my room faced the street). Traffic noise seems to be amplified through the airconditioning ducts and dumped into the rooms. I barely slept more than hour before being constantly woken up.
I’ve seen cleaner hotels too which isn’t helped that the hotel isn’t the most modern.
If you have an option, skip this one.

This place was so run down and small. We paid for the nicest room there and it was gross. The floor was sticky and the comforter and sheets were stained. The staff hardly smiled or welcomed us. The housekeepers were really nice though. The continental breakfast was what I imagine the prisoners would eat in the state pen. We were there for a week and every day it was the same scrambled eggs and either paper bacon or chewy sausage pattys. Don’t get there at the last minute either cuz they are quick to move at closing time. Not even a cup of coffee!
The fold out couch was falling apart. Both the couch part and the mattress. When we opened thw sofa bed, there was food all over the sheets. We could smell weed and cigarettes thru the vents.
The Asian restaurant below the hotel was mediocre with less than service. The pics on the website must’ve been taken the day they opened cuz it doesn’t look that nice at all.
Anyway, I dont recommend it at all.

Hotel is clean and they boast that it’s smoking free. However, that was not the case this morning, as cigarette smoke poured in thru my bathroom vents.

Extremely dirty and run down. Way nicer hotels for the same price range in the area. I’ve stayed in the city many many times at much cheaper rates. My company reserved this hotel on my behalf. Yuck! Do a little research and find something nicer.

I give Wingate by Wyndham –5 stars. This hotel is absolutely the nastiest hotel I’ve stayed in ever before in my life. The hospitality surely wasn’t the best either. I was appalled at the hotel manager and the staff taking 3 hrs to come make my bed that was filthy nasty once I checked in. The pillows were stained with urine and the sheets had hair on them and I’m sleep on that? The top comforter had a million lint balls on them ass well as some yellow stains. They never offered me another room as they said they were full to capacity.

Amazing service. I used the dining service downstairs — 24hr diner and a breakfast service in the Lobby for a convention in New York.
Clean and spacious and quiet.
Had a suite with sofa bed and view of the water!
Walking distance from Convention Center.

I was so grateful to find this hotel in the location it was in and for the price. While the view from the window is just another building, this is something to expect from a hotel in the city. There was a continental breakfast with a nice selection, but more importantly, the location. In only a few hours, my friends and I were able to see Times Square, visit St. Patrick’s cathedral, the Empire State building, and enjoy dessert and Serendipity 3. The location was quite prime and the metro was quite close. For cleanliness, the hotel surpassed and there were no issues whatsoever. If I am ever in New York City again I would checkin here!

Super loud with bar next door and the regulars u can hear on the 14^th floor! Clean and pleasant staff.

i’m not a hotel snob by any means, but can appreciate a good one. this was just okay. yes, it’s a wyndham so it’s up to their standard, but there are many other fabulous spots in this area of town that i’d opt to stay in for a little more $. the location, however is great (a quick walk to penn station and flat iron). the rooms are okay. nothing special. the beds are probably one of the most uncomfortable hotel beds i’ve stayed in for quite some time. i wll say they are at least spacious and have a nice, big bathroom. we were stuck on the 6^th floor in the front of the building– whatever you can, change your room if this is the case. we heard dump trucks and traffic all night long and didn’t sleep well during our stay. while they do realize it’s noisy (they have ear plugs for you on the night stands– really!) they should warn you before hand, or get better ear plugs! for the pros– location, free wifi and a nice business area. cons– noise level, horrible beds. will i stay here again? likely not.

I selected this place because I wanted a clean, quiet hotel with free breakfast.
While it did have free breakfast, the tripadvisor reviews were quite inaccurate. Nothing about the breakfast was very good. Piecey scrambled eggs and a rotation of bacon and sausage patties, plus the option of waffles and cereal, plus some of the worst coffee I’ve had. I ended up buying breakfast eventually because it was so disappointing.
My room was on the third floor facing 35^th St. and allowed me to hear essentially EVERY SINGLE MURMUR on the street. I noticed too late they had provided a white noise machine, though I noticed the earplugs immediately. I’ve stayed in MUCH quieter hotels in Midtown.
I washed my hair the first night, and when I showered he second night I noticed that my hair was still covering the tub and shower. It is my own hair, so it didn’t bother me in a cleanliness regard — but why didn’t the cleaning crew remove it?
I did love the convenient location and the friendly staff. It was a reliable choice; it just wasn’t conducive to a very restful stay, between the noise level and the lackluster morning fuel.

Nothing spectacular, it’s just your average hotel… but it’s reasonably priced & the location was great, just a couple blocks from Times Square. It was clean, the housekeeping was great & the people at the front desk were always very nice & helpful. There’s a free continental breakfast with a waffle station every morning. The Asian restaurant for dinner was great. Would definitely recommend this hotel to friends traveling to NYC.

This hotel was ok. Could be better but all in all, this hotel is right by Penn station which can be accessed by the E train from JFK airport. The breakfast couldn’t be better. Although the rooms are roomy, the beds are just perfect, and the wifi is fast. You can hear every horn, every siren and every construction in the midtown area. The hotel offers ear plugs but they don’t really help. The elevators were broken when I was here, but it was only 10 min. AT THE MOST untill a guy could come and fix it. Which, I thought was really impressive. My sisters enjoy watching Disney Channel and Disney XD, but the hotel didn’t have those channels () That was frustrating when season 2 of Gravity Falls premiered.

Pros: Stayed here last week. Enjoyed the standard king-​size room. Bed was soft and comfy. Breakfast was AMAZING! Many options (eggs, bacon, pastries, waffles, bagels, muffins, juices, coffee/​tea, etc., etc.!). Definitely a selling point to this hotel.
Cons: The heater in the room was sub-​par. It was set on the highest setting (84 degrees) for over an hour, and the temperature in the room was very, very cold. I called the front desk and a maintenance man came in and told me that I shouldn’t have set it so high because that’s «how I blow a fuse» and that I should turn it down to 74 degrees. There were no instructions on the heater, so I explained how was I supposed to know that? Oh well. It got warmer, but still was a cold room in the end.

No significant complaints. The location and super soft/​comfy bed were the most enjoyable parts for me. (I came to town for business and didn’t have to take a cab once — beat that!) Room was laid out well and plenty roomy. Desk chair was uncomfortable but no biggie. Shower was nice: shower head with different settings, plenty of spots for toiletries on the rack, water got hot fast. Also, the lighting in the bathroom was not obnoxious and fluorescent which was great for doing makeup.
The price was much lower than anywhere else in this area (booked about 1.5 weeks beforehand). Obviously it’s expensive, it’s Manhattan. But relatively speaking, for what it is, it’s more than enough bang for the buck.
Only bad thing was the noise but it was the kind of white noise I can fall asleep to, so I was not bothered. Again, it’s Manhattan, noise is inescapable. NOTE: All king rooms face the street. Your best bet is get as high of a floor as you can (I was on the 11^th).
The hotel sits on a very small footprint, narrow and tall — kinda cool, I’ve never stayed anywhere like it. Four rooms per floor with the elevator in the middle. I’m guessing this is not terribly unique in NYC?
My stay was brief so I didn’t get to experience every little thing about it – missed out on breakfast, for one, which sounded way better than the stale pastry «breakfast» every other hotel features — but everything I did experience was totally adequate, if not better than expected.

I have stayed at many Wyndham hotels in this area and this hotel is at the bottom of the list. This hotel has a lovely barbed wire view from the lower back rooms. I had no cell phone reception in the room. The ADA bathroom, which I didn’t ask for, was larger them most in NY but the floor flooded with every shower. The shower had no water pressure and the shower head pointed straight out and not down.
The TV is small and on a side wall, not for good viewing from the far side of the small room. The heater/​air is a noisy window unit.
The customer service was non existent. I stayed 3 nights and not once was i greeted by the staff.
The pros, small fridge and microwave. And the breakfast included hot items like scrambled eggs, sausage and waffles.
Bottom line, stay at the New Yorker. Even the Ramada Eastside is better than this hotel. I really don’t understand why this hotel is so highly rated.

It’s been over a year since I stayed here. However, I was very pleased with having found this place, and ended up staying here several times for work. I’m a fan of the rate, but the location of the hotel, size of rooms, and helpful service were also very good. At the time, I was finding room rates just over $ 200, when my colleagues were spending $ 300 and up. I haven’t priced it recently.
The location is right in between the Port Authority Bus Terminal and Penn Station /​Madison Sq Garden. 35^th Ave is smaller, and the neighbors are a mix of commercial and retail store fronts. Being in the middle of the block, and a narrow street, it does contribute to feeling a bit ‘out of the way’, (i.e. entrance not on an avenue). The views out the windows are largely, other buildings, which appear to be mostly older buildings. But, these things are not uncommon for Manhattan. I walked to and from the hotel throughout the day and into the evening, and never felt any less safe than I would in most other parts of midtown.
Room size is what is ‘standard’ for a Hampton /​Courtyard /​Wingate .; in a ‘normal’ suburban location. So, they’re not the normal, tiny standard rooms in much of the Manhattan hotels. My rooms and the facilities that I experienced there, were clean and well maintained. I don’t know if the hotel has parking, or what parking resources are close by.
Service was always helpful. Desk staff would remember my name, and offered good assistance with any questions that I had.
So, while it isn’t perhaps the same name as a Marriott, Hilton, or Sheraton, it’s a strong, solid alternative for a better price.

What kind of hotel has absolute non-​refundable policy for any changes and any cancellation after making a reservation?
This hotel does!!!
We made a reservation through Cheap Ticket and we wanted to change our plan (which often happens right?)
But we could not cancel without getting any money back from them.
Before making a reservation with them, we did not see any policy that said «non-​refundable», or if it did, it was very small which we could not find. Then after purchasing, this «non-​refundable» thing popped up. Very very sneaky!
I know we got great deal through Cheap ticket, but still it is very very tricky that we cannot get any money back when we change our mind. It should not be like this for anything.
So we stayed here.
The staff is not really nice and not very helpful.
I love to take a bath, but the bath tub was not so clean…
