Barry’ Cleaners — 5÷7÷2016 Unfortunately since my last review I’ve had two negative experiences so I’m now officially done! Dropped off alterations in New London and told them I needed them dropped off at the Niantic location. I was going out of town and needed them to make sure they’d be there. Went to pick them up as promised and they decided to only send the jackets figuring I didn’t need the pants to go with them… The owner apologized for their oversight and as an act of good faith gave me a credit to stay. Dropped off more alterations and due to a back log they told me it would take two weeks instead of the normal 1 week. Just went to pick them up 15 days later and guess what??? No pants and no call that they wouldn’t be ready as promised! Another patron in the store told me about a dry cleaner in New London that he takes his alterations to now because he too had issues so after I get my credit, I’m outa there! How do you drop the ball on a customer you’re already on thin ice with from your last incident? Do you really not want the business?!

Sometime last month I brought two brand new pairs of dress pants to the Niantic location. They were the same pants, except one pair was a gray size 6, and one pair was black size 4. I asked that both pairs be pressed, and that the gray size 6 be taken in to a size 4. When I got the pants back, the black ones were acceptable, but the gray ones were a disaster. I tried them on at home, and the fabric was bunched up in the butt, and there was a huge bulge in the crotch(I’m a woman, so definitely not cool). Also, the creases were messed up; one leg was down the middle, and the other was way off to the side. I called the next morning. I calmly explained the problem, and the woman cut me off saying, «woah, woah, woah, slow down! I can’t understand a word you’re saying!»(I’m a receptionist, and I talk to people all day the exact same way, and no one else has a problem.) So very, very slowly I repeated myself. She told me I’d have to call their New London location and acted very put out when I asked for the number. I called the NL location, and spoke with the manager. She told me to bring the pants in, which is extremely inconvenient since I live in Niantic and work in Norwich. Also, the seamstress is only there from something like 7am-3:30pm, and I work 8 – 5. So the next morning I left my house a half hour earlier than normal. The seamstress said the bulge/bunching is because of the type of material, which is funny because it’s the exact same material the other pants are made out of. I put the pants on and showed her the problem with the seam, but she didn’t understand why the crease was off since they were lined up «seam to seam» to go through the press…(Maybe because they were sewn together incorrectly?!)So I just asked them to take the crease out altogether. Maybe I could just wear them with long shirts. As you can see from the picture, they understood my instructions,(no crease) and yet when I picked them up, there was a crease. The woman also tried to charge me again for pressing the pants, and I re-explained why I would not be doing so. She grimaced and said, «fine.» I will NEVER bring anything to ANY Barry’s Cleaner’s location again. Thanks so much for RUINING my brand new pants.

Quick one day service! Very kind staff! Our go to when my husband ‘forgot’ he needs a uniform pressed.
