I honestly always come here because the owner and his wife are SO kind. The food is also excellent. But the people are just genuinely nice and very kind people which makes this place even better. The pizza and dishes are all very good and I highly recommend La Vera!

The pizza is okay, neither bad nor outstanding. There’s some interesting specialty slices, and can range from ravioli slices to chicken salad slices to more traditional ones like sicilian or white. The pepperoni rolls are pretty good as well. What really keeps me coming back are the stuffed garlic knots. They’re the only place I know of in the area that makes them, and you get the choice of either stuffing them with broccoli or with pepperoni. Just know that you only get 4 stuffed garlic knots in an order, so order 2 servings if you intend to share.

Best garlic knots I’ve ever had! Pizza was delicious too! The place is very clean and the owners are really friendly. The next time I go I would want to try the chicken roll. They look so tempting!

I never thought that a simple slice could be done so wrong. Its as if our old La Vera was taken over by amateurs.

La Vera has recently taken over new ownership. This family run restaurant offers a wide variety of italian fare at extremelty reasonable prices. The pizza, along with their main dishes, is very tasty and made fresh to order. La Vera offers daily specials for lunch & dinner with unbeatable prices!(For example: Lunch could consist of a $ 5.95 Chicken Parm Hero, or 1 Large Salad with 4 Garlic Knots, 1 slice of pizza, and a Fountain Soda ALL for under $ 8.00). The dinner specials are equally reasonably priced at under $ 10.00 offering pasta dishes, meat dishes, and heros. I highly recommed anyone from this area to try these amazing deals. The food is great, the family is pleasant and they even deliver! It is now one of my go-to places when looking to dine-in or eat-out Italian Food.

Located on Marcus Ave near Hillside Ave and south of New Hyde Park Road along a string of mini-businesses, La Vera can be easily missed or passed by if I’m not purposely looking for it. Since there is a middle barrier median on Marcus road, the only way to access the parking lot is if I am traveling south. Honestly, if my co-worker never mentioned this restaurant, I would have never known it existed. La Vera is an Italian restaurant with the popularity that is not anywhere near Papa Ciro’s, which is located further north on Marcus Ave. As a first timer, I decided to visit La Vera on day in December 2009 during lunch to see how it is for myself. This restaurant serves everything from pasta, soups, salads, seafood, traditional Italian ices, pizza, hero, and wraps. Being on the safe side, I ordered a regular Neapolitan slice of pizza for $ 2.25. My co-worker recommends the stuffed garlic knots(with a choice of pepperoni, spinach, or broccoli with cheese) at four for $ 3.50. For the sake of variety, I ordered a regular garlic knot(6 for $ 2.50.) I ordered everything over the phone and told them I would personally pick up the order. They have free delivery for those who order over $ 15. The restaurant looks just like a pizzeria with tables and chairs for customers. The entrance was partially blocked by a stack of soda cans. I didn’t see anyone eating there during my time at this restaurant. On top of the regular menu there is a special menu with lunch and super specials. The super specials, with certain specials valid from 1 – 4:00PM, Monday through Wednesday, look like a great deal for larger groups with prices starting at $ 13.95 + tax. The employee I spoke with was not super-friendly and I couldn’t quite understand what he was saying. I had to double-check the contents of my order by asking him questions, which slightly annoyed him, I think. Anyway, I paid in cash, took some napkins and menus and was on my way back to work. For me, this place is nothing special, but the stuffed garlic knots did taste good. I would not buy the regular garlic knots again since it tasted so plain. The pizza tasted like a regular pizza. I think I feel more comfortable at Papa Ciro’s. At least the employees at Papa Ciro’s are more verbal and sometimes friendlier over there. On the other hand, I wouldn’t rule out coming to La Vera again. PROS: stuffed garlic knots CONS: a bit of language barrier, not too welcoming vibe

Ordered Chicken Lucia(breast of chicken cooked to perfection in Nonna’s special lemon and mushroom sauce as stated on the menu) and Chicken Rollatini. Was told it would be here between 30 – 45 minutes. Not a problem I said. It was almost 2.5 hours later by the time the food came and umpteen phonecalls looking for my order. I guess that set me off. Ok, the food came and yes it was hot surprisingly but the taste of the chicken lucia was sour. I’ve had lemon sauce before but not to the point of being sour. No lemon and mushroom sauce, it was mushrooms next to the chicken in a lemon sauce. Unfortunately, we will never be back to this place.

2.5 stars It is a decent looking place, clean and lots of space… but the pizza itself was just ehhh. I ordered a Sicilian slice and a regular slice. I liked the Sicilian better than the regular, but neither one was bursting with flavor. Maybe the sauce was too bland. maybe the cheese wasn’t fresh, maybe it wasn’t made by Italians… I don’t know but I was not very impressed. With so many pizza places in the area I would try somewhere else.

I tried their salad pizza and it was great. Fresh and crispy, the slice was huge and the dressing was really good. I was very pleased. Plus the service was excellent. I will definitely be back! A great local spot and plenty of parking in front and the rear of the restaurant.

This is just OK pizza in my opinion, the Sicilian slice I ordered was totally underdone and resembled an ellio’s pizza slice instead of a LI pizza slice. They also don’t have much selection here and I have been into the specialty pizza slices as of late, so minus one star for that. I would go here if I was stuck in the area and needed a bite, but definitely don’t go out of your way for La Vera.
