ISTHATYOURREALHAIR!?! Anyone that knows me knows I love weaves however August 2013 I was at a lost of what to get now. Weaves allowed me to change my hair often, and also to not care about my real hair. I took my weave out and said thats it. I no longer wanted to have fake hair. I got tired of hearing about Brazilian, Cambodian, peru… whatever. no I just couldn’t spend $ 100’s on hair that was named after 3rd world countries I told myself. I could put that money towards my mortgage or my sons college fund instead. So that was it. I swore off fake hair for 1 year. I am tenacious when I want something so this was going to be my next goal. Then it hit me! I had no clue what to do with my real hair. So I decided to try and take care of it; however I was still at a lost since it was not 18inches long, I did not ombré it, etc. Now October 2013 Came and I still was like WTF do I do with this hair. I decided to just let it grow for now since I felt so clueless. I cut the perm hair off and left only the new growth. I then called myself trimming my ends however after doing that I still did not fell fabulous like I did with my weave. I felt naked. Truly NAKED. I started my own little«grow hair» regimen. of drinking more water, washing and pressing my hair once a week. Now Jan 2014 I was still bored with my hair and was worried that pressing it myself was giving it heat damage. I decided to make an appointment with a professional. I visited Hairs Kay oat 143 Fitch ST. in New Haven, CT. When I made the appointment I told Kay I wanted a trim to get rid of the damage ends and just press it and put it back in a one(see below my «in one style I called it lol Im sure there is a proper term I just have no clue what it is). Once she saw my hair she said you have length. I was like ok she is a hair dresser she will tell me anything to make me fell Better. WELL after Kay was done pressing, treating and trimming my hair I was like WOW. Im not bald. I truly had no idea. It was so many years that I covered my real hair up underneath a weave. Just hiding my hairs natural beauty. I was in love with my own hair. A feeling that I did not have since High School. WOW. I then posted before and after pics on my Instagram and Facebook. Once I arrived home my 13 year old said«Mom you got a weave?» I said no this is my hair. My child said no way; let me see and he ran his fingers thru my hair to see if I was telling the truth or not. I had thought of putting him out at that point but then walked away to make dinner. As I got in the kitchen my mother text me asking if that was my hair also. I have to laugh so hard. She is my friend on Facebook and saw the images I posted as well. For a few seconds I did think about deleting her off my Friends list but that passed. As I laughed again at how my family had to ask was that my real hair I realized that all that money I was spending on weaves should of been going to my own hair. I would highly recommend Hairs Kay to anyone that wants to see how beautiful their own natural hair can look. I walked around my house with my real hair bouncing ready to book my next appointment! I feel like doing a hair challenge now to see how long my hair can grow for 2014. My next visit with Kay I will discuss more! Take a look at my before and afters!

Hairs Kay is like no other salon in CT. There are not a lot of stylists who takes the time to treat your hair. Kay is all about healthy hair, whether it’s natural or relaxed. What really intrigued me was the fact that Kay took the time to do a consultation on my hair(which is natural), where I learned that my hair was dry. In that consultation, she gave me suggestions to reverse the dryness of my hair. From the time she washed my hair, until the time that she finished styling it, Kay explained what she was doing and why she was doing it. Everything is done with love and patience. During my first experience at the salon, Kay made me feel completely comfortable. The atmosphere is great as well. If you are looking for a stylists that treats, styles, and is knowledgable about hair in general, Kay is the stylist for you. I’ve only been to Hairs Kay once, however, I’ll definitely go back again.

There are stylists and there are specialists and this is HairsKay. If your looking for healthy hair this is your final stop… you pay for what you get… these days there is a lot of routine stylists who lack any attachment to your hair but one thing i love about HairsKay is that she forms a mutual relationship with your hair that when you go elsewhere you feel the difference. I’ve been a customer for 5yrs and counting… moved away to the DMV and still come back for a dose of the HairsKay Therapy and its worth my travels. I can go on and on but as diet is to your body, HairsKay is to the hair.

There are a lot of talented stylists in Connecticut, however, only a handful know how to treat hair(not weaved or a pixie cut). I am writing this review for women who are looking for a good stylist. If you have relaxed or natural hair, I highly recommend Hairs Kay Beauty & Barber Salon in New Haven. I met the owner through a mutual friend and have been friends with her on Facebook since. After years of interacting back and forth, I finally went to her salon in August to get my hair relaxed and to address some hair breakage issues. The salon is clean, well maintained and up to date. I went there during the weekday after work and the salon was not crowded. There wasn’t a long wait and her clients are professional women. There weren’t any kids running through the salon or for that matter, present when I was there. She was able to tell me what the issues were with my hair and in addition to the relaxer, she gave me a treatment which included a concoction mixed with coconut oil to address the breakage issue. I was impressed, with the results and actually took another 45 minute drive down to New Haven for a second appointment for a follow-up treatment . Her price point might be a bit surprising, for women who are not used to paying for quality products or service for their hair. I’ve learned(the hard way), however, that low cost products and services are not always the best for relaxed hair. I will be returning to Hairs Kay in New Haven for my next relaxer and treatments. She also does a great job with natural hair(hot comb or flat iron straightened).
