Never again! So we have been struggling with this bagel shop for some time. My husband just won’t go back at all for the past two years. But, the location is great and I find myself stopping there to get the kids breakfast on the go. But, I’m done. I have never paid the same price twice for the exact same order. My younger son orders a toasted bagel with bacon and cheese and grabs a gatorade or OJ from the fridge. In the beginning of the summer on our way out if town for the day, I stopped and ordered that. The total was $ 9.75. Seriously? I asked why and was told that his ordered was considered a ‘specialty’ sandwich? Really? It was a toasted bagel with bacon and American cheese. No egg no ketchup not even salt and pepper. How is this a $ 7 item in a bagel shop? I walked out and got my kid breakfast on the road. We haven’t been all summer. But i stopped by to grab an iced coffee last week. It was afternoon and it was just me and one other guy in the place. So it was quiet and slow. I ordered an iced coffee, cream no sugar. I know that is what i said because that is my standard order. I never order sugar. I got my drink and it had sugar. No biggie, it happens. I went back to the counter and said ‘sorry, this has sugar’. Normally places just give me the correct drink, no problem. The girl behind the counter argued with me saying i asked for sugar. After a little back and forth, me insisting I didn’t, she literally grabbed the drink out of my hand, got me a new one, slammed it on the counter and walked away. Alrighty then. See ya John’s bagels. I will make the trip into town to go to Davids. I can even text them my order for quick pick up, so the time spent getting there cancels out.

I usually don’t have time to waste on reviews, but yet I am one who relies on other people’s reviews to help make my decision on what restaurants I should eat at, so why not return the favor. This deli, I don’t know if it’s been renamed«John’s famous bagels» but it’s the only bagel shop right next to Pekula’s pizzaria. Ok, so I’ve been here a few times & the only reason is because I do like their grain bagel & it’s along my route to work, but I must warn people that this place is super expensive. They are more expensive than a bagel shop or deli on 5th Avenue. Every time I go there, I get charged a different price & each time seems to be more than the last. One time I ordered a bagel with cream cheese & with tax is $ 2.66…a bit expensive. Another day I decided to get a bagel with cream cheese & «jelly» and I was charged almost $ 4! It was like almost $ 1 more for a «dab» of jelly. So I tried to be economical & just order a plain bagel & I would put my own cream cheese & jelly on it myself and save $ 2.50 and one guy charged me $ 1.25 for a plain bagel, but another time, the owner charged me $ 1.75 for the same plain bagel. So I looked at the menu price and see«$ 2.99» for an egg & cheese sandwich, so I figured, why not. So this morning I ordered an egg & cheese sandwich & when it came down to payment, the owner charged me a whopping $ 4.10…for an egg & cheese sandwich with no meat?! I was appalled & I thought it was time to speak up, so I questioned the charge and I pointed out the menu price which he has displayed on the wall which clearly says $ 2.99 and his response was, «oh yeah, the prices went up, but it’s not reflected on the board because it costs money to change it»…really? That’s your lame excuse? Then he said, «ok, I’ll give it to you this time», so he recharges me and still charged me $ 4.00 because I asked for butter on the bread of my sandwich… who the heck charges for a dab of butter on a breakfast sandwich? And a whole $ 1 at that. So I didn’t feel like arguing, so I gave him my debit card and he had the audacity to ask for cash because he has to pay 35cents for the credit card transaction. Are you kidding me? I’m so done with this place. I don’t know how dishonest you can be to loyal customers. I only went there because it’s along my route to work, but I will definitely be finding a new place for breakfast on the go. Even Rockland bakery charges only $ 2.75 for an egg, meat & cheese on a bagel WITH butter. So John can keep his $ 4.10 for his egg & cheese sandwich. He should be ashamed of himself. That’s not how you do business. More people need to get on board & speak up on the truth about this bagel shop. They don’t deserve to be in business. And the owner tries to distract you with his polite smile; that’s probably all added in the cost.
