Very disappointed in this bakery. Ordered as a special treat for Christmas! Put on the special instructions where to send the baked goods, and that if they could not deliver by the 24th of December to please cancel. Didn’t hear a word from the bakery so I emailed, left messages… no one returned my call or email. So I kept calling until I finally got hold of someone. They tracked down my order only to tell me it was mailed to the wrong address. Then they told me they would ship 2 days so it would arrive on time. Christmas came and went… I called this morning to ask for a refund only to be told no because they shipped the order. It’s December 28th! Still no package. Guess I’m out all the money I spent and the very expensive shipping I paid for. I will never do business again with this bakery. Very disappointing how they conduct their business.

Love everything they sell. Seriously, I have never been to bakery that sells such consistently top rated products. The line can be long but it is so worth the wait.

By far my favorite and the best bakery I wish I could hate! It’s hard enough trying to maintain my Size 4 figure without all the calories but this bakery is amazing! I love all their pastries, cookies and donuts. Not far from the downtown Plaza, it’s easy to spot off of Seguin St. My faves include the Unicorn cookies, cannoli and gingerbread men. If ever I head to see friends around town, I always stop by and pick up a little somethin’ somethin’ from this bakery. Believe me when I say that I always stop by on my way back home. Friends back in Phoenix always have good things to say about the treats from here. Give ‘em a try! Cheers***

I thought the selection of pastries was very good, and I was extremely impressed by the petit fours cakes, I’ve never been able to find them in the US, and the quality was excellent — icing was spot on and the cake was moist. My husband enjoyed the cherry tart. It would be great if they served iced coffees for hot days, but they otherwise have a decent selection of drinks. Look forward to returning again in the future — I would also consider buying cakes here for a party or catering

Good place for a sweet tooth. Be careful ordering a birthday cake. Ordered a cake asked to have happy birthday chuck and they put puck Instead. Be sure they understood what you want written on the cake before heading out the door.

This place advertises that they are the oldest bakery in Texas. So what! What they left off is that they are the oldest AND the worst bakery in Texas. I purchased 6 different pastries so I would have a broad taste of their products for a proper evaluation. The cinnamon roll was doughy with absolutely no flavor of cinnamon, and tasted like it came out of a box. Absolutely nothing that woke up my tastebuds. The same with the various cream filled pastries, the cheese danish, and their so called famous specialty, the apple strudel. They obviously use inferior ingredients to make these baked goods, and all their cream and fruit fillings taste like they came out of a big vat they bought from Costco… definitely NOT made fresh on premises, nor made with any creativity or imagination. Seriously speaking, I have tasted better pre-packaged baked goods from store shelves. I will NEVER be back.

It was just ok for me and the wife. The sausage kolaches were burned on the bottom and they didn’t have anymore to replace them. The lid on the coffee was not on properly and we spilled coffee on all of our pastries. Streudel was incredibly sweet and I didn’t finish it. We did enjoy the German pretzels. We had high hopes for the oldest bakery in Texas. Maybe we came at a bad time.

Have always wanted to try this place out, and I am so glad I did. As I stated to the young lady when I started my order, I would have liked to order one of everything. Everything looked so good. I ended up getting a jalapeño cheese sausage kolache, and a strawberry cream cheese danish. The kolache bread was so good and was the sausage, and the pastry was so good as well. The customer service was so wonderful and the ladies behind the counter were so very friendly. I will be back no doubt, and will bring family and friends. Thanks so much for some great tasting baked goods!

Amazing bakery. My doctors office is in NB, and we stop for a treat after each visit. The breakfast sausage kolache and regular sausage kolache are pretty darn good. I love getting the strudel, but had to try the pecan snail. It is basically a mini cinnamon roll, but has this amazing sugary topping, with a glaze and pecans. The few negative reviews I’ve read, they must all be crazy or super picky. Everything I’ve had on several occasions have all been wonderful!

The Strudel is really, really good. We will definitely be back for more. We’ve tried a couple of other places but, they weren’t even close. My wife’s sister and mother live in San Antonio, we adding them to places to visit when we’re in town.

Good tasting bakery items right off the i35 freeway. I stopped by on a whim Saturday morning to try out some of the well known items such as the Gingerbread cookies and jelly pastries. There was a small line, but the store is very small with somewhat difficult parking depending on when you arrive. I had to choose fairly quickly since jumping in line doesn’t offer a chance to really look at the variety of baked goods. I would definitely do some more research before going in. The gingerbread cookies are pretty delicious and very big! The other jelly strudel are not overly sweet. They taste homemade and are fairly inexpensive. I’m not sure if I would make a trip just to eat here, but it’s a good stop between San Antonio and San Marcos and very close to the freeway.

What a great selection of cakes and bread. They need healthier breakfast options thought and it is the oldest bakery in Texas which is pretty cool

Oldest bakery in Texas. Built in 1868 and still making that same strudel recipe. Ross Granzin the owner continues to provide New Braunfels with sweet treats such as German Pretzels, turnovers, bear claws, crossaints, huge assortment of cookies and donuts, the best gingerbread men and even some pretty amazing tortillas. Not only is this place a must stop for tourists but NB natives stop by often to get their fill of fresh kolaches and a cinnamon roll. Their cakes and pies(peach especially) are mighty tasty. Don’t forget to take a look up to the right at some cool pictures from back in the day.

We came because of the fact this is the oldest bakery in Texas and the favorable Unilocal reviews. The Dutch apple cake(was really a pie) was average in flavor and texture, it was surprisingly ice cold, close to being fairly recent out of the freezer so this was probably baked«earlier» as it was 11AM in the morning. This was the coldest pie we have ever bought in a bakery. The«service» was certainly below par. Since there were 4 of us, we asked if they could cut this in sections. You would have thought we were asking for the moon by the look and body language of the sales clerk. We watched as this pie was brought to the back for cutting and upon the return we were told that there would be a charge for the«labor» as they do not cut pies and in fact had never done that for Customers. Photo attached In retrospect, I should have gotten a «certificate» for being the first Customer in the oldest bakery in Texas to have that honor of having a pie cut into sections.

Top notch customer service at this bakery! That always goes a long way in my book. Our group of 20 descended upon this cute, little bakery on a Saturday afternoon after our Lockhart BBQ crawl. We were stuffed! But a meal isn’t quite complete until we have dessert, right? ;) We were greeted with smiles and staff made us feel welcomed. We each ordered something. So I was able to sample cookies, cupcakes, kolaches, cake pops, donuts… essentially everything! For me, everything was way too sweet and artificial tasting… on par with HEB. I know I’m going to get hate mail for that comment. But my palate can’t handle sweet, y’all. I am known for NOT having much of a sweet tooth and I am über picky when it comes to pastries. The rest of my group seemed to enjoy their selections. Staff even gave us plenty of extras for there AND for the road because they don’t open on Sundays. Anything leftover on Saturday would have to be trashed. So they hooked everyone up! Thank you, Naegelin’s! Would I personally get anything else from here? No. BUT, I would definitely bring others here! I know plenty of people who do enjoy these pastries. And who wouldn’t want to say that they’ve been to the oldest bakery in Texas?! So it’s a must stop :)

With such a wide variety of pastries, bread, cookies, pies, and cakes to choose from. I can understand why they are the oldest bakery in Texas. Plus they also have kolaches & donuts. I could die in there. Truly. Its heavenly.

Pretty large selection of fresh baked breads, kolaches, fudge, and cakes. But you better get there early, as the display cases were pretty bare. I counted about 14 different kinds of sweet kolaches. They had sausage ones, but they were pretty bare. There was hardly anything savory here, and everything was ultra sweet. dripping with sweet icing. I bought a German sweet pretzel, which was pretty good though sweet. As you walk in and to your right, they have a half price counter with very fresh French breads and cinnamon rolls. This counter was a great bargain, as these items were very fresh and may have been baked this morning or only yesterday. I would like them to offer more savory items, but I will be back when I want a couple of those unique, fruit flavored kolaches.

Naegelin’s is one of a kind! You walk in and there is just so much to choose from and I feel that their prices strongly cater to the people of New Braunfels…$ 0.93 for a cupcake! We often buy our birthday cakes here because the cake is ultra moist and the buttercream is heavenly! The next time you stop in, check out all the details they put into their cakes/cupcakes. My family is crazy over the strudel and I’m a huge fan of their sweet cheese pocket. It’s refreshing to go into a bakery and choose 6 beautiful desserts and not pay over $ 5! Sad story… I left my Naeglin’s box on my kitchen table and had to run an errand… when I returned all that was left was my pink cookie with the eye missing :/That explains why I HAD to go back the next day. Abbi and Marilyn made my experience a great one! They often came around to the front of the counter to explain certain pastries and said that if I ever get an item that isn’t to my liking to simply let them know on my next visit and they’ll happily replace it. I LOVETHIS!
