Decided to try new location in Alta Sierra. Never tried them before, but they opened in the neighborhood. This was the most disgusting, inauthentic Mexican food I have ever had. It was flavorless, unseasoned slop and I wouldn’t feed it to my worst enemy! I have had gas station food that was better. Beware!

Heard a lot of great things, but I was disappointed I’m sure everyone has their own preferences for Mexican food, the taste just did not do it for me. Our burritos were both a bit salty and the salsa seemed to have a sweet taste to it. Portions were good size and the staff were very good and friendly. I would say, give it a try, everyone has different tastes!

They are back in business but at another location under another name. It’s now called Casa Las Katrinas and they are located on Alta Sierra Drive in South County. Went there for dinner a few weeks ago. They had only been open for about 5 days and they were still waiting for their liquor license to come through. Food is just as good as before. Prices are the same or a little more than before. Even some of the same staff have come back to help. We are so glad that they are back. Only bummer is that they moved so far away from Nevada City, it’s a bit of a drive to get here.

Absolutely yum. If I could, I would post the picture I posted on Facebook of my plate before I licked it clean.

We moved here a year and a half ago and started out at Maria’s in Grass Valley for Mexican food. Eventually, we made our way up to Nevada City & tried Las Katarinas… and we think it’s sooooo much better than Maria’s. You should try the Carnitas, they are to die for! there are several dishes that are just delicious! they have a Specialties section on their menu and they are all great! there is a carnitas plate, a carnitas enchilada, chile relleno, it’s all yum, haven’t had anything that wasn’t good yet. i come from Tucson, Arizona, which is pretty close to Mexico, and i say Las Katarinas is the best up here. The desserts are heavenly!!! The owners are super nice and friendly, and provide quick and competent service. Their drink size is mega! Tip: the margaritas available do not have real Tequila in it, it’s some kind of something else, i forget what it’s called. i don’t think they have a liquor license, so they can’t serve the real thing. Warning: They are closed on Tuesdays!!!

Food was great, staff was very friendly and accommodating, relaxed atmosphere and the only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 was ambiance. Not the place for a romantic dinner, but if you are looking for great food and staff, this is a great place.

Great food! As I am a vegetarian, it’s difficult to find restaurants with good quality vegetarian food. Not only was the food vegetarian friendly, but it was flavorful; the Chef really knows what she’s doing!!! Great service, atmosphere and FANTASTIC food. I look forward to coming back. Keep doing what you’re doing!

‘Just had dinner at Las Katarinas in downtown Nevada City. The food was fabulous. Our party of four each had something different and every dish was outstanding. Delia is a wonderful cook. Don’t forget to try the desserts. Even on Wednesday evening, the place was busy — the waiter had a little trouble keeping up, but he was very gracious and friendly.

Terrible Mexican food. Terrible salsa. Complained about food and received $ 1 off the check.

We moved to Nevada City 8 years ago. We visit Las Katarinas about one a month. Food is good, service is prompt. We have never been disappointed. I have had better Mexican food but I have had much worse. They are very consistent.

Okay, I live pretty far away(Placerville)…Sure, we have Mexican restaurants here; but when I get a craving for some REAL Mexican(and the best damn Sangria); I pack up the family and DRIVETHEM1 ½ hours to Las Katarinas! I eat the same thing every time; Shrimp fajitas and few sangria twisters, and I’m one happy lady. I recommend you do the same. Life is too short to eat shitty food. Oh yeah, do yourself a favor, get the full dessert platter. You will not regret it.

The food here is never bad, but sometimes it’s more bland than other times. I have developed a rather cynical belief over the last few years that most if not all of the«south of the border«restaurants around here basically dumb down and«blandify»(made up word) their offerings on the basis that most of their customers are middle aged Caucasians who either bitch and complain or avoid places that have anything construed as spicy. I could be a bit jaded but that seems the case lately. I am split right down the middle on Las Katarinas. Never had anything particularly bad or good, yet it seems the food is made with some care and experience. If judging«Mexican» food as a political spectrum, I would be a far right wing radical demanding lots of onions, hot peppers, lots of spices. Don’t be afraid. Decent. Unremarkable. Easy Going. No pretentiousness. I am glad they are there.

My husband and I just moved to the area recently. We decided to check this place out, as we love Mexican food! This was some of the best Mexican I’ve had! It was sooooo good! Plus the service was fantastic! It will be our new go to Mexican place up here!!!

Great food and service! There is normally a little bit of a wait of the busy nights, but if ya give them your name and number they will call you when your table is ready so you can still browse the local shops in town. I come here with the family every time we visit and it’s never disappointing. The food is in generous portions and it’s always great.

I enjoyed the freshness of the food. I ordered a veg tostada stacked high with lettuce. Great to find a place that doesn’t use lard with the veg specials. It was very good. The service was sweet. I thought is was overpriced but I understand in a cute little town the prices may be inflated. I’d return for another meal.

My friends and I all went to Nevada City for the day and stopped off at this place which looks real inviting and authentic. Upon entrance we were greeted and seated. I had no problems with the service, everything went smoothly. The food however is a different story. I ordered a pork tamal with a chicken enchilada con chile verde. I am going to go out on a limb and say that I would have preferred a meal at Chevy’s or El Torito.

Las Katarinas is one of my most favorite traditional Mexican food restaurants. I always get the two cheese enchiladas, which are delicious from sauce to tortilla – not too soggy, not too spicy or overcooked(and it’s easy to overcook enchiladas!) The beans and rice are great too, and when my 4 year old son ordered a quesadilla, they made it right: toasted and pan-warmed for crispiness. The desserts are fantastic, and they make them all there daily. I don’t find anything too heavy, just right, and the service has always been great. I love Las Katarinas and when I’m up in Nevada City(about once every two or three months), I always like to go here.
