Wow, I came in expecting something I didn’t get, and got a whole lot of other awesomeness instead. I had a tea and cookies(shortbread) idea, and on a hunch decided to try this place. Turns out their breakfast food is superb — as good as anything I’ve had at South Pine Café. Smoothies; panini; bagels; everything including coffee was downright awesome, and reasonably priced! They use Vanelis coffee, a highly underrated regional roaster that has some amazing blends to choose from because they take the time to cup every variety they have in stock(NOT every roaster does this). Now, why did I come to this place? Well, I wanted some high quality loose leaf tea and fresh, shortbread cookies. Okay, they didn’t have either of these or I’d give this place five stars. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with their business unless you’re a tea snob and that’s why you came to begin with. :)

Best coffee I had while in Nevada City. Will go back again to try salads and bagels.

This place rocks! It’s the best place to get coffee in town. Awesome outdoor seating and attracts pretty cool and friendly people. Organic coffee!

Five stars for the baked goods, four for the coffee drinks, three for the lunch items. The baked goods(esp. the pistachio muffin) are amazing. The coffee drinks are very good, though I find them a little spendy. The lunch items are fine, but they are pretty basic salads and sandwiches and I think they are overpriced for what you get. For some reason, a bagel sandwich is significantly less expensive than a standard sandwich, which I guess just reflects that people will pay more for lunch than breakfast. The marketing materials from new agey businesses in the back are always a fun read.

It was a beautiful day in Nevada City and I went against my better judgement and ordered a cup of coffee. The coffee was still the same as last time I was here, It was bland and tasteless. If you want a nice place to sit outside, and people watch, it’s a good choice. Just don’t drink the coffee. As my grandmother used to say«put some coffee in the coffee»!

The Turkey Pesto sandwich is out of this world good, perfectly crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, light, high quality, high flavor ingredients. I’m going to dream about that sandwich until I can have it again! One star missing due to size of $ 10 spinach salad, too little, not a whole lot in it, although very pretty on the plate & all ingredients were perfectly fresh and delicious. Beautiful dog friendly patio, always a plus.

This place is so freaking good! I came here last year at around the same time, and I’m glad to see that’s it’s maintained its awesome atmosphere. I had the Jenny’s bagel, which was superb(and very filling). Also, I treated myself to an iced chai. This was one of the best chai lattes I’ve had, and I do highly recommend both items!

Broad St Bistro and Sierra Mt Coffee Roasters are the only two respectable coffee shops in the area(DONOT like Curlywolf or Café Meeka). Broad St Bistro has everything I could want or need from a coffee house– free wifi, community board, nice barristas, gluten free food items(woo hoo) and nice atmosphere. Beware of the meter maids however!

I love this place! Nice breakfast bagels and lunch salads and sandwiches, including some creative vegetarian options and made-in-house gluten free pastries and treats. It can take a while for the food, especially paninis, but it is because they make everything to order. The coffee is amazing too. I’ve tried all the places in town, but I like theirs the best. They have a wonderful huge patio with a shady oak tree for days with decent weather. They also sell beer and wine for those lazy summer afternoons. Highly recommended, I’ll be back anytime I’m in Nevada City.

Recently opened by Former Cirinos personnel. Relatively quiet Wine selection better than Cirinos. Food variety great. I had house special Thai pasta with prawns. Well presented. Courteous servers. Molasses butter is amazing. A little pricey but worth it. New place but one of the best around.

Ordered a cheese avocado sandwich. Almost $ 9.00! Came with one ultra thin slice of cheese, a hint of avocado and a ton of bread! Total ripp off! Careful what you order at the place! Nice place to sit outside though. Just order a small coffee and bring your own food or you will be very sorry.

Cute little café! Right on the main drag in Nevada City near the top of the hill. Order inside at the counter, take a number, and find a table. Nice seating outside on the patio. I had the Avocado & cheddar sandwich on multigrain for $ 7.25. It came with house potato chips and a dill pickle slice. Sandwich was really good with lots of avocado and sprouts, tomato, onion, mayo, and choice of cheese(I had cheddar). My bf had the Vegetarian sandwich, which was basically the same thing but had cream cheese, cucumber, and sunflower seeds in place of the avocado and cheddar. He enjoyed it, but my sandwich was definitely better and heartier. Overall, super cute place with delicious, fresh food. PS– On a previous visit I had an insanely good muffin– I believe it was a vegan«hummingbird» muffin with pineapple, coconut, and other goodies in it! So yummy :)

For coffee and a quick breakfast, this place is stellar! I LOVE their espresso. Earthy, robust, organic, fair trade. YUM. And I totally AM a coffee snob. A triple iced espresso from here is my favorite summer treat. The place is always bustling and cozy. It’s cozy even at 7am(last semester I found this out, but never again)… The staff is cheerful. They let you sub fruit for a bagel, so you can get a neat little green onion and cheddar scramble instead of an egg bagel sandwich. And the fruit is always good and yummy, with fresh raspberries or strawberries or fresh cut apples. I’m not a big fan of any of the other coffee in town, so this place was a HUGE relief when it opened. The owners are super duper nice as well. Stop at THIS coffee shop if you are visiting this sweet little town. It has a clean bathroom, great selection of drinks in a refrigerated case, MANY gluten-free baked goods as well as the normal yummy baked goods. They sell crafty greeting cards and journals and such as well. Also, you won’t be disappointed if you like good earthy, thick(but not so compressed it’s like a tincture) espresso! Old fashioned deliciousness it is!

I’m not sure what happened but we had a disappointing experience over Labor Day weekend. Maybe they were slammed over the holiday but it did not go well. 1) We ordered a cream soda and for $ 5 I expected more than a glass full of ice and 4 slurps of soda. At least they were nice about refilling it when I complained. Except that 2) service was super slow. We waited over 20 minutes for our reuben sandwich. Many people who ordered after us got their food before we did. When we went up to ask about their food, they just said that some food takes longer than others. I suspect they forgot/lost our order. 3) Then when we finally received our reuben sandwich, it was just okay. It definitely did not make things any better, not like«oh this is the best reuben ever! I forgive them the extraordinarily long wait». The best thing about eating there was that they let us hang out for a long time afterwards as different people relaxed, repacked the bike gear, fixed bits, etc.

A great place to sit and read in the mornings. Dogs are welcome on the patio outside, which is shaded by beautiful trees. A little expensive, but what bistro isn’t nowadays. Newo and I love coming here to read in the morning, but it gets a little busy in the afternoons, and not so reader-friendly. After this last go around at broad street bistro, I changed it to a 4 star after I forgot i was getting sick and asked to switch from an iced to a hot latte. The lady said she’d charge me for it, so I just had her steam the iced latte I already had. she steamed it, ice and all. Very strange, unhelpful service in a situation where their lives didn’t depend on one hot latte. A few years back they had a full room dedicated to books you could buy. Now, they have a little shelf of a «book swap», a bit dinky, but next time I’m looking for a random read I’ll probably look around on the few shelves.

Wow… three different brands of coconut water — heaven, I tell you.(Just a note to Broad St, however — the Zico you carry is from concentrate & just not that good — the tetra pak version is not from concentrate fyi; the Real brand is also very watery and less flavorful — stick with the Amy & Brian and get the non-pulp version, please). My first Reuben sandwich ever since I don’t eat meat — they make a veggie version with wild mushroom field roast and it was delicious! Plus it was on a sort of marbled rye which was a better choice for me I believe — all rye would have not been great. The kids had bagels with smoked salmon, onions and tomatoes and they were also very good. Simple, good food in a nice environment.

Awesome little café in Nevada City. Kid and dog friendly with amazing panini sandwiches and terrific service. I don’t know if it was the great weather or terrific atmosphere but we could have hung out on the patio and watched the world roll by all day. What a nice place. Wonderful food and very friendly, down-to-earth staff. I highly recommend this place for your next trip to Nevada City/Grass Valley.

She triple-dog dared me to drive all the way back up there from Oakland for another cherry turnover. Triple-dog! That’s whack. Guess who’s going back? Mmm hmm. And while it will be just for the turnover I expect I’ll tarry for the day and maybe two in town(sweet little town) and in the delicious Sierra Buttes down the road(another review for another day). She made the turnover the evening before. Fresh flaky dough, held to the display only by gravity tugging on the cherries inside. It had apple brothers and sister pastries of a different variety. They all looked incredible. The inside was cozy with soft seating and nooks for uninterrupted conversation, which was nice, because today was anything but inviting. The sidebar describes a patio. I didn’t see it. My head was down to keep the storm off my face. When I go back it will be warm and my update will doubtless describe honeysuckle-draped trellises and happy people eating cherry turnovers. From the website it looks like they have an array of other choices for other times of the day. I don’t care if it’s a 300 mile round-trip. It’s worth it. And she triple-dog dared me.
