Mountain House Books

I heartily agree with the previous review regarding Mountain House, however growing up in Grass Valley and spending most of my life there, there are a few concerns that many should be aware of. Firstly, parking in Nevada City is tremendously difficult and though occasionally one will be able to find a space along Broad Street, the weekends are very difficult to find adequate parking on. Secondly, there are occasions when Mountain House does not keep its posted store hours, which are maddeningly limited and frustratingly short when you want to start off your weekend on a book hunt. Having said that, Mountain House’s selection of California History/​California Literature and Gold Rush materials in general is unparalleled and comprehensive in many areas. Len Berardi (the owner) is also a very kind and friendly man who has been in the rare book business for many years and knows his stock inside and out. Whether you are interested in histories of Nevada City and Grass Valley or a rare cartographic history of the California Gold region, Mountain House Books will definitely fulfill your book and literary needs. I recommend a visit to them heartily!
