We came up to Nederland for the Carousel of Happiness and happened across this cute little place. Stepped inside and immediately felt like we were with old friends, everyone was so friendly; customers and staff alike. We ordered a dozen wings and a large pizza and were so pleasenetly surprised with the level of freshness. It’s absolutely obvious that the pizza is all handmade, nothing prefab here! I will definitely return!!!

Food is ok at best, service is slow, they may or may not pick up the phone, phone is normally busy because they leave it off the hook, go to pick up and they ignore you forever, call ahead and they still won’t have your order ready, and finally the food is way over priced!

Good pizza(NY Style) and a great beer selection. Laid back, self-order place. Only a few tables as most of the seating is bar oriented(stools.)

Not sure who picks the beers, but well done! Always can find a tasty sour and a world class west coast IPA. I would suggest adding an imperial or aged stout. Pizza is good for a take and bake or half baked. Way better than lame Papa Murphy. Sandwiches are hit or miss. Service is what you make of it. Good vibe too.

I asked for a ranch from one of the cooks and was basically refused, sat down and had to listen to both of the cooks blatantly talking trash about me and my friends for asking for ranch, all while the family sitting next to me had to listen to the entire thing. The cooks are a disgrace to the service business and don’t even deserve the job they have. I am disgusted. Is it too much to ask for someone to do what they’re getting paid for?

I’m a bit surprised on the lower reviews. In visiting Nederland for the day, we were recommended from a local to give it a try. It isn’t the type of place that you should expect fancy or amazing service in my view, it is a bit more do it yourself with great pizza and a solid bar. Indoor or outdoor seating with a nice view of the mountains. I guess the ratings depend on your expectations … mine were a good beer, great pizza, and a view.

My family and I make an effort to visit here every time we are near this area. Came two years ago when it was just a small little hole in the wall. Pizza was so good we had to come back. Owners have expanded and added a bar. They have fixed up the place quite nicely. Pizza is still just as good. Thin crust New York style pizza. Diamond in the rough.

Stopped here after a long day hike. The staff was rude and seemed annoyed to help anyone. The pizza was ok, we could have made better at home. Skip this place and go to the plenty of other restaurants nearby.

I have been to a lot of places in my life but they really made me feel welcome, I’m from Texas, most mountain people from Colorado like to flip me off and honk at me until I pull to the side, I never do. but back country pizza let me know we are special, and deserve to have a reason to go home

The beer selection is good but the s l o w e r than glacial service was awful. It was so slow that we left before our food came out.(Our food was only 7 slices of pizza). We saw some one who waited over an H O U R for pizza. The atmosphere is fun and local with some fun characters. The sunset was great and the porch was pretty cool. But you should avoid this at all cost.

The pizza, wings, and beer taste good. Lots of locals here. The place looks great after the remodel. The service is unfortunately not very good at all. Bartender had to be reminded to pour a beer for us, and it took nearly an hour to get pizza and wings. We got them to-go instead. If you have time to burn, go here. If you’re in a rush, maybe call an hour ahead and order. I doubt that I’ll be back after the terrible service. Very frustrating.

Worst service from any restaurant I have been too. –I am writing this review as I sit at the restaurant. It’s been 45 minutes haven’t even gotten my appetizer of wings. –The man at the register had to stop taking orders to help the cooks make pizza. –which in turn backs up the line to order. –phone rings non stop but the register guy is busy making pizza. He occasionally returns to turn the phone off and reject the call. The Boulder location is a lot better run and managed. I recommend going there. I will not be returning to this location. Food is mediocre at best. When I am around the area doing stuff outside I work up an appetite and would like to relax with some pizza and beer. I’ll ignore the frustration of the abysmal service and get something in Boulder. By the time I make it back there and order food I’ll still get it before they finish up here in Ned. Wow! Backcountry Pizza in Nederland has really slid down the scales within the last year. When I first moved to this sleepy town six years ago, Backcountry Pizza was fantastic despite being the only pizza shop in town. Decent pizza at a slightly inflated price, but well worth the short wait. Fast forward to today, they refuse to answer the phone or even take the phone off of the hook when it’s «busy» in there. This happens all of the time; even tonight! One time, I was tired of waiting for someone to answer the phone so my girlfriend and I went to town to order food. When we were finally able to order(not because it was crowded), the bartender/service counter girl couldn’t hear anything over the Phish playing at a louder than normal level. I believe that Trey is a freaking Jedi, but seriously, how are you going to try to run an establishment when you can’t hear what your patron is ordering? Isn’t your kitchen loud like every other kitchen in the world? Why would you then leave the music turned up?(Turnt down for what? Money.) After having to repeat our order four times, the girl behind the counter still input our order incorrectly into the POS system. These machines are dumbed down enough that even the absolute moron with one working hand could figure them out. When our food was finally ready to take with us, the cooks put the to-go boxes on top of the ovens ready for the counter lady to hand it to us. I watched this all happen. After waiting another ten minutes, I walked up to the counter to grab the attention of this person, but she wasn’t there anymore. I walked out back to see her smoking a bowl. Ah, that explains it! When she walked back in she walked right passed me and decided to see if any one of the six patrons at the bar needed another beer… all of their glasses were more than half full. She completely forgot what I looked liked and asked if I wanted to order food. I calmly pointed at the food on top of the oven, and said«Our pizza is getting cold and my salads are getting warm.» I said«busy» because there is little room in there to operate, but the bartender is too«busy» trying to coax tips out of the half dozen patrons sitting at the bar instead of taking orders for the kitchen to generate more revenue. I suspect that these people really don’t care about customer service and don’t seem to care about their employer generating profit. They seem to be stuck in «Humboldt time.» Then again, these people are not operating a Fortune 500 company and could care less about actually working hard. They are sitting on their high-horse knowing that this is the only pizza establishment in town, so they can treat their patrons with the upmost amount of errr… disrespect. What was once a decent place to enjoy the game while eating a slice has turned into a hole. All of this seemed to have happened over the winter of ’14/’15. Maybe that information will be pertinent to Mr. Fayman… your current/new employees are terrible. Mr. Fayman, I’ve met you a few times, you’re a nice man, but you are being slighted by your employees. You are missing out on revenue: these lazy people you are trusting to run your business must go! I’d rather drive to boulder and eat elsewhere. I’d rather order a frozen Lou Malnati’s pizza from Chicago than deal with these shmucks ever again. It would probably take less time for the Lou Malnati’s to arrive at my door than it would to get these people to acknowledge a customer in their shop. As a matter of fact, I’d rather open another restaurant in Nederland than ever give these people another dollar. Maybe hiring new applicants with proper qualifications or even any kind of work ethic is your answer instead of hiring based on nepotism. FOODWISE, the pizza has turned into garbage as of recent… too much sauce, the crust has become very doughy(flour-like) in flavor, and the cheese will slap you in the face and leave you with second degree burns on your chin. The stromboli, used to be good, now it looks like a regurgitated burrito. The over-all experience is very unpleasant.

–Terrible, terrible service. –Answer your phone. –Stop getting high in front of patrons’ kids. –Food has gone down hill since 2009 –Can’t hear anything over the music which results in a lot of competitive yelling amongst patrons. –The BBB should be calling them soon, but they won’t answer the phone. –Perfect place to spend an evening if you are a transient with nothing better to do. –Over-priced, yet they still manage to screw up an order despite having a small menu.

This review is based on many, many visits. Both dine in, and carry-out. For those who think it matters – I am a local, and enjoy the relaxed mountain lifestyle. This is the only pizza place in town. However… I don’t think that should qualify places of business to have service so terrible that you begin to wonder if you’re in a theme restaurant aimed at pissing off the customers and making them feel uncomfortable. If I could give negative stars, I would. Firstly, don’t bother calling. They NEVER answer. Or the phone will ring for minutes on end until you are disconnected. OR the phone will be busy for hours. Let’s say by some miracle you DO get through to someone. Chances are your order will be wrong, and they will lose it anyway. They’ll also get your name completely wrong no matter how many times you clearly repeat it, so make sure you remember whatever it is they repeat back to you and insist on calling you. :) This place has turned into essentially a crappy basement filled with high schoolers who are high and without parental supervision. The people who work here just seem to invite their friends over to drink and smoke and take other recreational drugs and just chill. Cool, if you’re at your house… but you’re at work. Act like it. It kind of feels like you’ve stumbled into some grungy house party, and everyone is ignoring you/looking down on you for even being there because you’re a stranger to them. So I mean, if a dirty crackhouse environment is what you’re into – this place is for you. If you like witnessing fights often, this place is for you too. Nearly every time I have been in here the bartender/cashier girl(it’s been different girls) seems so stoned that she has no idea what’s going. Again – cool, if you’re at home, but you’re not. One time the chick at the counter appeared so high her eyes were rolling back into her skull and she could barely input my order. I asked if she was okay, and she snapped back out of it. Completely fu*ked up our order after we repeated it 6 times, but you know… at least she didn’t pass out or vomit or anything. +++ Most other times the bartender/cashier girl just can’t hear you, and isn’t paying much attention. Expect them to focus on the bar customers who are just having a beer, because chances are they are her friends and probably drinking for free so she can keep tips anyway. I guess I keep giving this place chances because as stated in paragraph 1; it’s the only pizza place in town. Secondly, I keep hoping these employees are super short lived and someone better comes along to fill their positions. :/ Please get your sh*t together, Backcountry. The pizza here is mediocre at best as it is, totally not worth the terrible experience. Tonight I am so fed up with the experiences here, I’m just gonna buy frozen pizzas at the market next door if ever I want decent pizza in town. Otherwise, I guess Boulder it is!

This review is based on one visit which could be better or worse on further visits. It was a calm Monday evening in Nederland so I wouldn’t have guessed it was hoppin’. But this is apparently the local establishment and the place to be! Super loud music, TV on with a good baseball game, people inside and pouring out onto the deck. Most were at least buzzed, one guy fell over. Twice. And the rest were likely high. Really really high. Really good pizza options! Awesome beers on tap. And super friendly staff. Basically not your standard pizza joint. And yet totally a pizza… JOINT.

Today we got here at 11, because this place is supposed to open at 11, and the stoner cooks come up to the door once someone actually had to knock and LIE and say they don’t start serving until 11:30. Um, I come here every Sunday for pizza and beer and you guys open at 11. Like usually I wouldn’t care, but last time I was here I was waiting for my bill and I had to watch all three employees they had working smoke a bowl in the back and call for their attention just so I could pay my own bill. SERIOUSLY. Get your stuff together, it is not hard to open at the time you’re supposed to. I’m not mad that you smoke weed, I’m mad that you can’t open on time because you’re so irresponsible. The pizza is good. Especially the deep dish! It’s totally worth the little extra wait! And the cheesy bread is yummy too, and the wings!
