This precious little display case makes me love that I’m living in Nashville. I stumbled up it the other day. There were three postcard sized painting of owls in bold colors to catch your eye and one lovely painted house on stilts(likely the home of the painted owls). It’s a kitschy little thing and a great way to fill the space and brighten someones day. You can’t help but smile when you see the Smallest Art Gallery in Nashville nestled between Peabody Shoe Repair and the makeup shop.

I like the idea of displaying art in the middle of an everyday public place like Hillsboro Village. This small display case between Posh Shoes and Peabody shoe repair on 21st Ave. has a rotating display of small art pieces. The exhibit showing when I walked by was a collection of 8 paintings by Amir Raissan. The paintings were so tiny that they only used about a third of the already small space available. It just seems to me that if you only have a small amount of space to work with, you’d want to use very inch of it. This particular exhibit struck me as trendy and wannabe-hip, but hopefully the gallery’s next rotation will be more to my liking. Whether or not I liked the exhibit at Nashville’s Smallest Art Gallery, it still sparked thought and discussion, which in my opinion is always a good thing.

Nashville’s Smallest art gallery is an anomaly; it is really just a great use for a neglected display case along 21st Avenue. I love how this is really just an idea brought to life. Calling this display case an art gallery has given it a life of it’s own. To be even cuter, not to downplay the importance of the art on display, but it is cute that in fact the art on display in Nashville’s Smallest Art Gallery is tiny art. Last time I wandered by the case it housed a handful of pieces by Ryan Hale. The paintings are tiny, most of them are about 3 inches x 2 inches. The prices are pretty tiny too. It takes no effort to visit, just glance at the wall as you are passing by and enjoy some art.

Cute? Gimmicky? Brilliant? All of the above! This«gallery» is indeed so small that I’m sure I’ve walked by it half a dozen times since it opened in Hillsboro Village. At 39.5″ tall, 29″ wide and 4″ deep, this little showcase is free for all to view as long as no one is standing in front of you. Situated on the building wall between Posh and the shoe cobbler, the current/inaugural exhibit showcases 3 great artists. From the website: «In a former life the gallery was a neglected, graffiti-covered glass display case on 21st Avenue between Posh Shoes and Peabody Shoe Repair. Now with the help of some Goo-Gone, a razor, and a total interior makeover, the gallery has started to take shape. The gallery even features solar-powered lighting, making it the only 100% self-sufficient art gallery in Nashville, and perhaps the world». If you’re in the Village anyway make sure to keep an eye out. otherwise you’ll surely miss it.
