Boy oh boy do I love a dog friendly patio. During a recent trip to Brown County I was checking my trusty Unilocal app to find dog friendly stops since I had my beloved Scottish Terrier in tow. I called Big Woods and asked if their patio was dog friendly to which the woman who answered the phone gave me a firm«no way Jose». Okay. Well I liked the reviews enough I was willing to leave my pooch in the car while my husband and I grabbed a quick lunch. Imagine my surprise when we arrived and found several people enjoying their grub and brews with their dogs at their feet. So their patio IS dog friendly, and they even brought her some water to enjoy! The beers were excellent. Get a flight and try several! A flight seemed equivalent to a couple beers, so me and my husband each got our own and enjoyed sampling the beers while enjoying our food. Their sausage and garlic pizza was delicious, and was happily washed down with some awesome brews. All in all: You gotta go! Do you like beer? Do you like pizza? Do you like watching cute dogs salivate hoping for you to drop a crumb for them? Yes, you know you like all these things so head on over!

First, the pizza looks amazing. We did the beer and nachos for a snack. Nachos were good — not amazing(a little small). That said, other stuff on the menu looks more promising. The pork on the nachos was awesome and they smoke it there. They have a solid wine, cocktail, and bourbon list if you’re into that. Over all a good, crowd-pleasing, and affordable place to grab a meal or snack.

Stopped in with the love for a short beer tasting and snack. Ordered the 8 beer flight and nachos. Reasonable beer flight prices and nachos are pretty good but a little small for the price. The atmosphere is great and so far the service has been on par with a pizza and beer pub. Would definitely recommend and plan on returning for more in-depth pizza analysis!

This place has the best pizza and beer in Nashville, maybe even Southern Indiana. Always eat here when in the area. Pulled pork nachos are delicious, but order with extra sauce and cheese. One of few places that give more pulled pork than other toppings.

(A precaution to my review: I was partially feeling not sleeping much last night, I hadn’t had lunch, and I had just hiked an insane amount at Brown County.) Quite possibly some of the best pizza I’ve ever had? Yes. I think the wait time for the pizza was about 5 — 7 minutes or so — completely doable. Once our pizzas came out and we took our pics and vids for Unilocal,I believe our entire conversation went«this is so good.» «SO good.» «I can’t believe how good this is.» «This crust is SO good.» «So so good.» I got Emily’s Garden and my friend got the Margherita with chicken. Again, the crust of the pizza was Devine. It was like breadsticks but even better. We were planning to get ice cream after so we wanted to save room so we didn’t get anything else aside from the pizza. Like I said, it was some of the best pizza I have had and who wouldn’t love to sit outside in 60-degree weather by the Christmas tree in December?!

Stopped here with my partner, and asked if we could look at a menu before deciding. One waitress offered us a menu, and another stopped by a few minutes later to ask if we had made a decision. It was relatively busy, but there was a table open and they didn’t mind us sitting at it while we perused the menu. Both employees were friendly and I felt no pressure to stay, which is an attribute that I rate highly in a restaurant. I ordered their stout chili, which I enjoyed. It was odd in that it was very light on tomato product. There were a few diced tomatoes, but it didn’t seem to be the base of the soup. It was a dark chili full of beef, onions, and… beer! I’m used to a rich version of chili(I add a few spoonfuls of cocoa powder to my own), but this was unique. The menu advertised that the chili was made with beer, but I expected it the be a minor ingredient marketed mainly to pay homage to the brewery that runs the restaurant. But goddamn, the beer is a prominent flavor in the chili, and it works! My only complaint is that I left wanting more. When I order a «bowl» instead of a «cup» at a restaurant, I want to leave with a full belly. The soup is served in a shallow bowl, practically a plate, to be finished before one can even become fully aware of its true deliciousness. My partner ordered pretzels. She’s vegan, and the cheese used to accompany pretzels is one of the only items she will regularly break her diet to eat. The cheese that came with the pretzels was clearly made in house. It was… okay. I appreciated the effort at making something unique and not just opening a can of industrial cheese sauce, but in this case, it wasn’t anything extraordinary. I thought it was acceptable, but my partner disagreed(that means, bring on the gallon can of cheese!). The actual order amounted to two«mini» sized pretzels, which were clearly not made in house. If I had to make a suggestion to the restaurant, it would be to make the pretzels in house, and order the cheese from a distributor! We also ordered a beer to split. We’ve both had Quaff On beer in bottles and were not impressed, so I was surprised by how much I like what we ordered. I cannot actually remember the particular beer, it was a «blonde» something, but i appreciated the flavor and wished I could have taken some home. Overall, the food was decent, although somewhat hit-and-miss(mine was a hit, her’s was a miss). The price is high for the actual portion, but I suppose that is what one can expect at all the restaurants in Nashville, Indiana. Gotta use that tourist money to pay the tourist location rent!

Rolling up to Big Woods was like stepping in to your best friend’s house and entering through the back door — it’s cozy, familiar, warm, and inviting. I was on a mission to try their James Beard awarded burger during my visit. This hefty burger includes: –Tulip Tree Creamery triple cream — which, in my opinion, is what makes this burger stand out from the pack –blend of sirloin, rib and chuck –mushrooms –Hare Trigger beer mustard(I’m a sucker for a good mustard) –green chiles and pimentos –brioche bun –tomato and arugala –again, its the cheese that stole my heart(well, it already had my heart but knocked this burger out of the park) A few more nuggets for your visit: –wine, beer and cocktails are all available –located one block off the main drag in Nashville –visit the bathroom — it’s heavily decorated with business mementos and memories and has a fun noise machine that makes you feel like your peeing in the woods –there is only a handful of tables inside — that’s part of the charm

After a hike around Brown County, I was hungry and thirsty. So happy that Big Woods was here to quench my thirst and feed my growling stomach. It was a chillyish day, but I couldn’t resist to sit outside on the patio. Not only for all the people watching that Nashville IN has to offer or the beautiful patio that Big Woods has but also because it’s November and its in the 60s. Had to advantage of that! There were two double IPAs on the menu and my boyfriend and I decided to get one of each to try. Great job Quaff On! They were dangerous doubles because of how smooth they were. To eat, we each had a side salad and we split a 16″ thin crust pizza. They were more than happy to do half and half. The pizza was delicious and for me, the crust was what made the pizza. I didn’t see much of the inside but outside the tasting room has two giant Jengas. Could be a good place to spend a couple hours after a long day of hiking and tourist shopping in Nashville. Great addition to this adorable town!

First off, the hype I have heard about this plce was highly overshadowed by the sub par service we had. We were quoted 45 – 60 minutes and actually waited 90. And then another 15 minutes to be greeted. The wait staff had their backs turned and weren’t paying attention and sat us at a table that still needed to be wiped off. The pizza we ordered was awfully cut and had ingredients we special instructioned on the pizza that we have allergies to. I’ve seen and heard good reviews so I guess it may just be an off day. Hopefully on the next time my service is better. Busted knuckle saves the day as usual

Relative to your other options in Nashville, Big Woods is a 5, but a few service missteps and pizza that is really good but not perfect make it a 4 for me. Highly recommend the pulled pork nachos, breadsticks and the artichoke white pie. Beers were above my expectations with the hair trigger and yellow dwarf being our favorites, the former of which we took home in a growler. Fantastic space that gives off a real woodsy vibe. At a minimum pop in for a beer and an appetizer if you’re in the area.

I’ve been to Big Woods twice now, one to eat and one to experience the brewery! This past weekend I went there with a group of my coworkers when we were in Nashville for a retreat and the service, beer, and atmosphere was great! Our waitress was very attentive, despite complications like people arriving at different times/ordering at different times. She got all of the drinks right and was quick to make sure everyone got what they wanted! I tried the wheat beer, served with an orange slice, and it was delicious. Others in the group ordered the lighter brew and some a round of margaritas, hand-mixed individually & worth the wait! It was pretty affordable and definitely worth the money spent. ‘Twas a beautiful day at the Big Woods Brewery, I would recommend it to anyone who likes pizza, beer & having fun! 10/10, would go again. Quaff On!

I’d say Big Woods is 3.5, but I will round up. We had the Wimpies. They were good. I loved the flights I got where I could try a lot of the beers. I wouldn’t say the beers were outstanding; some had some strange flavors, but I still enjoyed the taste testing. Despite all this, I got the feeling that this is the best place to eat in town.

Big fan of both the brewing company(smaller location behind the pizza restaurant on the main road) and the small bar area within Big Woods Pizza. The brewing company can get very packed. Best places in Nashville, great beer, and very good beer.

We like to think we are regulars at this gem of a restaurant/brewery. Food is creative and always good. Prices are reasonable. Service is small town hospitality. APPETIZERS: We started with the Spinach Artichoke Dip($ 7.95). — Yummy, perfectly seasoned, fresh, and not huge proportion, which is good. Then on to the Freshly Baked Pretzel($ 3.95). — Toasty, soft pretzel with a cheese sauce; basic and good. MAIN: The Big Woods burger w/cheddar($ 8.95) — Not overcooked, which is a sign the kitchen is paying attention and has respect for the meat. :) Veg was fresh, bun was tasty and toasted. BEVERAGES: Way too many Six Foot Blondes(light ale) We collect the pint glasses. Will be back soon!(Ask for«Coach» the bartender) There menu is at:

I really used to love coming here, but now, not so much. This establishment is good, but after experiencing better, I can no longer consider it great. The beer is OK. Honestly, and I’m really into beer, there’s nothing on this list I’d go out of my way for. And I used to, a lot. It’s not bad though, and I’m certainly not complaining. If you’re in the area, I’d encourage you to stop in. The food is pretty decent. The nachos are my favorite, but there’s nothing on the menu I couldn’t make at home if not improve upon. Avoid the chili. It’s ground beef and kidney bean soup. I’ve never had chili this soupy. Hardly any toppings. Extremely spicy. It could work, the elements for greatness are there, but the execution is either naïve or lazy. The service is fine. When it’s busy you can expect to be attended to in a timely fashion, but there can be a lack of warmth, which in my opinion is part of the big woods experience. Mind the flies. I killed six of them last time I came, and it was an extremely unappetizing experience. Will I return? Not unless I’m already in the area, which unfortunately is very unlikely. I’ve made some nice memories at big woods, but I’m afraid that’s all this place will ever be.

3 star food, 4 star entertainment, 4 star beer. Wish there was a 3.5 star rating. This place is good if you like a more intimate setting and not big crowds and aren’t too picky on food temperature. On the upside, the pulled pork is smoked and is delicious, the service is pleasant, and their wrap around porch is quaint. They sometimes have live music shows. The food was tasty, but 1) the tacos are a very small portion, 2) we waited extra long for our food to accommodate a well cooked burger, but upon delivery the burger was medium and was finally served correctly after all other diners finished their meals, 3) the portabella mushroom sandwich was served room temperature not hot and 4) the BLT sandwich is served sans sliced bread — instead it’s on a bun. I really wanted a BLT sandwich, but it’s just not the same on a bun. While this is an honest critique, it was overall good and I’d recommend it to anyone who isn’t in a hurry and wants a local culture experience, and would not be bothered enough by these types of small issues that it would ruin their experience.

Big Woods Brewing Company is affiliated with the Big Woods Pizza joint off the main drag in Nashville. The Big Woods Brewing Company is smaller, 21 years and over only, and located off of a side street. It’s worth hunting for, however, because it has a great cozy atmosphere. I had the barbecue ribs special, which were tasty but not out of this world. They are cooked on the grill outside. What was out of this world, however, was EMILY’S GARDENPIZZA, which was an olive-oil based white pizza with asparagus, tomato, spinach, mushroom, feta and mozzarella. Served on crisp crust, this pizza had a great balance of flavors, with none of them overpowering. There aren’t a lot of seats here… there are only 8 tables inside plus bar seating, which makes it nice and toasty inside during the winter. If you have a party larger than two people you’ll be waiting a while during prime time. Overall, it’s a great choice in Nashville, worth a try.

Where do I begin… my boyfriend and I discovered Big Woods about a year ago when visiting from Kansas City. Instantly, we fell in love with the place. The food is great and we love the beer. Since then, we’ve moved back to Indiana and continue to visit regularly. Every time we go, we enjoy the food/drinks/people/atmosphere. The servers/bartenders are always very friendly. The only downside is that you might have to wait awhile to get a seat since its a small place. But even while you wait, you can have some beer :) We’re about to attend the first ever Quafftoberfest and I know it will be awesome. I love what Big Woods/Quaff ON! have done over the past year… easily a top brewer in Indiana!
