Love this place! Service is great and the steak is the best I have ever had. I always get the coffee crusted filet which is unique and oh so good. Great ambience with dark wood and horse theme. Prices are very reasonable.

Excellent service here but food was way overpriced for the value. 2 appetizers and my entrée came out too cold. Lots of bones were in my grouper. Bacon was very underdone in the bacon-wrapped scallops. Fried green tomatoes were dripping wth grease. My house side salad was the best part of the meal!

Not sure where to begin… it is a weds night, it is in between off season and high season, it was 9:20 pm when I walked in. I had a feeling but went anyway. I sat at the bar, no one else was at the bar or the restaurant. I ordered a bottle of wine which took 10 minutes to get, I ordered escargot and it may have been the worst I’ve ever had, very chewy and covered up by tons of breadcrumbs and orange and red peppers, I only ate half as I could not finish it. I ordered the Filet Mignon and the salad that came out was very good with the poppyseed dressing, The fillet for $ 38 is way overpriced and I’ve had better steaks at Longhorn Steakhouse or Texas Roadhouse for almost half the price, the vegetables were ratatouille and were surprisingly good. Wine list raves about being an award-winning wine list for seven years in a row… Not sure who is giving out the awards or how many years it’s been since they were rated as many of the wines are low quality or grocery store brands that are overpriced. Please put some time and effort into your wine list and by the glass list. Just because it’s cheap doesn’t mean it’s good? Good luck but unfortunately I will not return to this restaurant.

We love going here for many reasons. We always feel very welcome and comfortable. The staff are all friendly and knowledgeable. We try to get there for Happy Hour as the menu is great. It is always hard to decide what to have and the martini’s are also really delicious. I think this is one of those places people think might be too fancy, but that is just not true. I think anyone would feel right at home. We do.

Wow! Delicious food! Both their steak and seafood! And get their«House» dressing on the salad. You’ll be pleasantly surprised. Atmosphere and service was excellent. Very attentive server. Best we had during our entire stay in Myrtle Beach for our Anniversary! We always eat local when we travel. And the free appetizer for checking in was a great bonus! Excellent shrimp cocktail.

My friends and I were recommended this place by a local for the happy hour special. We went for a great deal and will return again today for the awesome food and service. Chef John is amazing and the attention and love for the ingredients is so apparent. We had 1) scallop ramekin, 2) blackened lamb chops, 3) duck tenderloin with a sweet/spicy sauce, 4) spring rolls, 5) beef tenderloin, 6) heirloom tomato salad, 7) crème brûlée, and 8) new york style cheesecake!!! Let me just say, the tomato salad is out of this world and the scallops literally melt in your mouth. The waitstaff treated us so well I may be ruined for any other eateries.

Had not been here in a few years. Can’t imagine why after this awesome meal! Four of us all had the special, which was a 16oz strip, either brown sugar or coffee rubbed. Both fantastic! Started with some escargot, which were great, ended with crème brûlée & Key lime pie, also wonderful! If you want an excellent steak in Myrtle Beach, don’t miss this spot!

Though I have not eaten at this restaurant, I wanted to commend the restaurant’s customer service. I had an issue ordering a gift certificate using the website so I called the restaurant. The men I spoke with was extremely apologetic and helped to fix the issue right away. A family friend also attempted to buy a gift certificate as a gift for the same person I purchased the gift certificate for, so the restauranteur called my friend to make sure she wanted to purchase this duplicate gift, knowing from our previous conversation my gift certificate was for someone traveling toMyrtle Beach on a vacation. I thought this was extremely respectable business — he did not have to sacrifice the revenue of the duplicated gift, but chose to make the better decision for the customer.

On a whim, because we own an off-track thoroughbred, we decided to give it a try. What an incredible dining experience! Food was done to perfection! Service was impeccable! We will definitely be back!

Very romantic ambiance. Best prime rib we have ever had! Bok choy was delicious, we have never had it before and were skeptical, we finished it first! Mashed potatoes were deliciously seasoned. Highly recommend!

We enjoyed a wonderful meal here on 12÷28÷15. Josh was a great waiter, attentive but not intrusive. The food was beyond our expectations. Appetizers = duck tenders encrusted in cashews with chili sauce(5++), beef tips with bernaise(4), and lamb lollipops with remoulade(5); all of the sauces were amazing. House salads were unremarkable. Entrées = steak Diane(4) was very tender with Diane sauce, but not a true steak Diane because cooked sous vide and not in the sauce; ribeye and New York strip(both 5) had a delicious preparation with ground coffee beans, sea salt, and peppercorns. A side dish of Gouda cheese grits may have been the best food of the night. Dessert = derby pie(5+), pecan/walnut pie with vanilla ice cream, chocolate and caramel sauces – OMG! If we lived here we would definitely come here regularly.

I decided to come here after reading the positive reviews over the last year. We came in last Monday night around 7:00 and the place was empty. There was one other table besides us. This always makes me nervous, but we decided to still give it a shot. I am so glad we did! The décor here is old school steakhouse, very dark. Also, the entire place, including the menu, is themed around horse racing. Hence the name. We were seated right next to the fireplace. They had just put up the Christmas decorations, so it was very romantic. For appetizers I had the seafood chowder and my wife had the«Angels on horseback» which was scallops wrapped in bacon. The soup was excellent. A huge bowl filled with everything from oysters to shrimp. Her scallops were cooked perfectly and the bacon added great flavor. For dinner I had the NY strip and she had the ribeye. Her ribeye was a little more fatty than we would have liked, but had great flavor. The strip was good, nothing special, but good. For my side I had the cheese grits. They were good, but had a strong taste of garlic that I wasn’t really expecting. Either way, they were tasty. We didn’t have room for dessert but they had a couple things that looked good. The atmosphere and décor really added a lot to our dining experience. If not for that, this would have been a 3 star from me. However, if you are in town visiting, the whole experience is worth it, even if you will have a better steak about 5 minutes down the road. See my review for Aspen Grille.

I’ve been coming to MB for two years, and drive right by Thoroughbreds. Had NOIDEA what I was missing. Get the Teres Major… tenderloin cooked Sous Vide. If you don’t know what that is, Google it and imagine what that style of cooking does to a piece of meat as tender as filet. If you’re a ‘business person’ here for business, sit at the bar. Josh will take GREAT care of you! I will be back. And often.

We ate here on Saturday night. We sat in the bar area and had no wait which was really nice. I got the ribeye, medium rare. It was supposed to be «pittsburgh» style which looked like it was attempted but definitely wasn’t charred as much as I would like to have seen. It did have a really good flavor so it wasn’t that big of a deal. The wife had a club sandwich that she said was good but was definitely overloaded with meat. Really good food at a very reasonable price.

This is the best happy hour on Myrtle Beach. We have done the research and this is the place for an amazing happy hour. The service is first rate and the food is always amazing. We have been attending happy hour here for years and each time it gets better. John was our server tonight and he is one of the finest in the business. This place never misses a beat. I’m hesitant to write a good review for Thoroughbreds because we often enjoy a quiet intimate setting here when we happy hour here but this place deserves the recognition. The martini menu and the house wine list are both exceptional. Don’t miss happy hour at Thoroughbreds.

We decided to stop in for happy hour. They had a fabulous happy hour menu. We tried the prime rib soup, lamb chops, calamari and beef tips. Each one was delicious! The bartender was very friendly and made fabulous Martinis. We finished off with the triple crown cake– chocolate heaven! I highly recommend this restaurant!

There are so many options in Myrtle Beach and Thoroughbred was a good alternative if you’re looking for a low key steak house. They have an award winning wine list, but its all bottled. The glass menu is pretty limited. We started off with calamari and the meat was rather small but it was fried to perfection. I ordered the chilled sampler platter($ 39) and my husband ordered filet mignon($ 35). I had a «check-in deal» with Unilocal that was for a free appetizer with purchase of 2 entrees and the waitress said it wasn’t applicable because my $ 39 dinner wasn’t considered an entrée. She later said they would let it slide… Besides that, the meal was great. The oysters were the biggest oysters I’ve seen in quite some time! The ahi tuna had delicious grape tomatoes on top, and I’m not a fan of tomatoes! I’d recommend this place if you want a great steak in Myrtle Beach. The atmosphere is very dim and intimate.

AMAZING food and service! This was my second trip here(the first being for a wedding reception). We had a group of 14 including a toddler. Some of us came early for happy hour. The hostess was very gracious and held our table until we were all ready. The bartender was great. When we were ready for dinner, the waitstaff was attentive. They brought the kid’s meal first without having to be asked. I ordered the 8oz prime rib which is melt in your mouth perfect. Even the sides and bread are delicious. You cannot go wrong eating here, and I can’t say enough good things about Thoroughbreds.

Food wise this place is 5 stars in any city, but if it was anywhere other than Myrtle Beach I’d probably give it 4. The restaurant’s look is very dated, but nostalgic. It’s like walking in to a steak house in the 70s. It reminded me of something out of an old mob movie. The food was amazing, and service was great. They accommodated our large party of 13, and never skipped a beat. Some people at our table got Chateubriand Bouquetiere which feeds two. The table side presentation was pretty cool. I had the short ribs, which are prepared in a sous vide for 12 hours. Possibly the best beef I’ve ever had. All you needed was a fork to eat it. Amazing. Their creamed spinich was better than any of the large chain fine dining steak houses. The split checks with ease, and included the gratuity so it was an easy transaction. I’ve always thought that Myrtle Beach was just 125 item buffets, pancake houses, and diner food, so I was impressed at how great the food was at Thoroughbreds. GETTHESHORTRIBS!(I must admit, I’m more of a Folly/Edisto Beach person than a Myrtle Beach person) I’ll definitely be back when I’m in the area.

Gee, what a letdown(this was one time that my fellow Unilocalers don’t share my values for fine dining). Maybe for Myrtle Beach this is one of the better places, but that doesn’t mean it deserves that standing, especially considering what cuisine has evolved into in the world. This was dinner for 65 – 85 year olds’ set in a time warp of 1977. My wife and I had: Lamb lollipops appetizer Crabcake appetizer Caesar salad Side salad Eggplant parmigiano Side of vegetable medley Kentucky Derby pie Three different wines, by the glass Service was inconsistent. First white wine by the glass was sour and had turned. 2nd glass of same wine from a new bottle was ok. I can’t recall ever getting wine by the glass that had already turned bad! First glass of red wine was flat. Second red wine wad vibrant and fresh. Salad was the best part of the meal. Lambchops were thin and tough. Crabcake was 25% filler, processed, boring, old and bland. Eggplant parmigiano was overspiced with oregano, and cheese had not sufficiently melted. Vegetables were overbuttered. Even dessert wasn’t too good, and I’m a sucker for anything chocolaty and nutty. Bottom line, this was a meal I might have thought good 40 years ago. If you’re going out with your aging parents or grandparents, then this restaurant will be appreciated.
