This restaurant boasts fresh local fish and has been around a longtime. We dined here because we got meal vouchers from a time share. The fish was likely fresh and caught locally, but I’m not sure how they can afford to do that because the restaurant was nearly empty during what should be a busy season. I got the imperial fresh catch. The red snapper was okay, and I couldn’t taste much of the crab cake. The vegetable medley was alright, more like an overlooked stir-fry. The muffins I read about were alright. I think that this restaurant could use a major sprucing up of décor and menu and be just fine! The people there are very nice.

We were walking around Boardwalk at the Beach and stopped the Magic Store. The owner was very friendly, of course, I can’t remember his name,. Asked him our usual question when travelling; if you have a friend in town for only one night, what restaurant would you take them. He recommended Chestnut Hill. Glad that he did. The restaurant is located on a pond near the Atlantic Ocean. Supposedly has crocodiles, but none tonight. Or, we were so into our food, we didn’t notice! Dian order the Bourbon Salmon, topped with shrimp and sliced green tomatoes. She said it wad wonderful. I had the Medallions Fillets, topped with Crab cakes and bournlaise sauce. The fillet was so tender and delicious… so much better than the fillets at home! The meals come with a salad, which we had the ‘house’ Honey Lime dressing(Yum,) Squash and red potatoes. They also serve Cheese Biscuits and Strawberry cornbread. Great atmosphere and food… Highly recommended!

Service-impeccable. Ambiance-wonderful thanks to the turtles and gators you can watch out the windows and the friendly staff. Menu – a nice feature is the stars next to the entrees that are available as small plates. Food – just a shame. I hate to run a place down, but geez. She-crab soup was pretty much a salty sludge that seemed like it had been on the burner for a couple of days. We were hungry, really hungry, and out of 3 of us not one could finish the bowl. Thank god for the house salad and(quite tasty) cheese biscuits and berry muffins. Decent drinks, good wines. Shrimp and Grits – had a taste I can’t even describe. closest thing I can think of is like microwaved black plastic with a brown gravy. I actually recoiled from the taste I had of that. Veal Neptune – mostly flavorless meat and seafood totally covered with some kind of thick butter sauce that I wish had been left off completely as it pretty much ruins the dish. I will say there was no lack of seafood on top of the veal. Reminded me very much of what I would expect at the buffet style restaurants in a giant tray under a heat lamp. Lobster tail – Large even as a ‘small plate’, but overcooked and rubbery to the point that it took a sharp steak knife to cut it. Very expensive @ $ 31 for the small plate. I found myself looking longingly at the restaurant next door and wishing we had eaten there, and I had no idea what kind of restaurant it even was next door. If you’re looking for a great, or even just good, place to eat, keep looking because this is not it.

This review is for the Sunday brunch only. Arrive hungry for a plentiful buffet of salads, carved beef and ham, hot breakfast and lunch entrees, and delicious breads and desserts. Among my favorites were the eggs benedict, shrimp and grits, and cheddar/bacon biscuits. Don’t miss the cheese blintzes! On our most recent visit, these were gone by 1 p.m., so snag one early. The buffet is set up in the center room, with a few tables in that room(seems it would be loud to sit there) and tables in the rooms on either side, plus a few in the bar. The buffet is $ 23, and drinks are not included. IMO, it would be nice to include coffee or tea with the price. Accepts reservations!

We were part of a party of 8 and we all found the service to be friendly & accommodating. Everyone enjoyed their meal. The vegetables that went with our meals were excellent as well as the salads. Everyone thought their entrees were above average.

This is often my go-to restaurant for dining on NYE, but the food and atmosphere are just as great on any other average night. I’m usually a «get the same dish everywhere I go» type of gal, and my go-to dish at CH is the center cut pork chop; it’s delish. The crab cakes are also good, and I’ve sampled nearly every dessert they make(they’re ALL divine). Sometimes my mom and I will stop in just for dessert before catching a movie. The early evening views are gorgeous out back by the lake, so ask for a table by a window. The staff has always been courteous and helpful, and while the bar area is a bit on the small side, the bartender is very knowledgeable and makes a mean martini. One of the best restaurants in Myrtle Beach, all around… hands down!

This place is the bomb. It’s a little more expensive $$, but so well worth it. Cold salads, cheeses, smoked salmon, roast beef, ham, chicken, great sides, plenty variety of desserts including blintzes, fresh fruit, cheesecake, etc. Great service, nice atmosphere to sit and peer out to the lake and wildlife, and the best food in town. We have been here for Sunday brunch and holidays. When we are in town, we always make this place one of our dining spots. It’s been on the row for many, many years when so many others have gone out of business. Ck it out, you’ll be glad you did.

The view is good– has a pond with alligators and turtles so that’s entertaining. Food is over-seasoned. We had the grouper, tuna steak, flounder, scallops, & shrimp. Everything was strongly seasoned, so much so that we couldn’t taste the actual fish at all. Ordered Grouper pecan crusted– it was served covered in syrup and nuts… Think southern pecan pie flavored fish. Very strange. Tuna was ordered seared medium rare. Was cooked to order, but was cooked in steak sauce and it overpowered the flavor of the rare tuna. Scallops were so heavily seasoned(blackened) that it tasted like Old Bay, not like delicious scallops. If you don’t like fish much, eat here. If you do like seafood: AVOID! Décor needs serious facelift. I would guess it’s the same décor for at least 20yrs. Server was nice. For reference, I live in Atlanta and I eat establishments like Marlow’s Tavern, Houston’s, and Ted’s Montana Grill.

We’ve been coming here for over 20 years and it never disappoints. The Broiled Scallops are simply the best you will find anywhere. Avoid the touristy chains and make certain to stop here during your vacation.

5 stars! Beautiful building overlooking a small pond that is home to alligators and turtles. Upon request the staff will go out and throw food into the pond to get the alligators into view. First they brought us a basket of cheese biscuits and strawberry muffins which sounds a little strange but it was very good. I ordered the«Oysters Rockefeller» for an appetizer. It was very good and came with 5 oysters. I ordered the«Fresh Catch Imperial» with the fish of the day, Grouper. It was a very good white sauce with a thick gravy consistency. It came with se fingerling potatoes and some kind of mixed vegetable medley which was delicious. My wife ordered the special of the day which was a salmon and shrimp pasta dish. She was very pleased with it and had more fish than she could eat. We are going back for sure. Next time I’ll prolly try the same thing again.

Healthy bourbon pour is the best thing about this place. We dined here after a long day running a conference. My wife got the special NY Strip and Scallops. The scallops were closer to raw than even rare. At the price they charged for the special I figured preparation wouldn’t be a problem. I had the Veal Neptune crab, shrimp and scallops. All the crab meat must have gone to one of the other’s veal at the table. A couple shrimp and one scallop. None of it had much flavor. Maybe food network has made me want more, but the standard boiled potatoes and steamed veggies fell short as sides in my opinion. Our service was top notch, and I will add we didn’t give them an opportunity to fix my wife’s scallops since she had a such a large steak. Sending stuff back is generally not our style. Not a bad stop choice if it is between this an many other places in the Myrtle Beach area.

Wife and I had the chance to try this place out, I’ve been here a couple times before and love stopping here during vacation to eat dinner. This time I had a steak and was impressed as I am a hard pleaser for steaks haha. The atmosphere here is great for a dinner date with your significant other or family. Chestnut is a family owned restaurant that shows they really care about their quality of food and service. I normally don’t write reviews unless I’ve been to a place more than once too. I remember last time I came here we saw alligators but this time we didn’t. There is always next time :)

We had great service, but the food is no better than any other seafood house in Myrtle. Perfectly adequate. My shrimp were so overcooked, parts of them were crunchy. The two things I did like were the the honey lime dressing on the salad and the fried green tomatoes.

My girlfriend and I visited Chestnut Hill for her birthday while vacationing in Myrtle. I loved that our seats were right next to the huge window overlooking a lake! I went with the Surf/Turf while my date had the king crab legs. Both were fantastic. My only(minor) complaint was that I wish the potato side that we both received was different; it was basically just a boiled potato cut in half and seasoned. The veggies offered were good, and the house dressing was amazing. We also ordered stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer and shared the strawberry shortcake for dessert. Both of these items were delicious. Cheese biscuits and strawberry muffins also were on the table, and both of those were great as well… as are waitress informed us, the muffins are rather addicting. One issue(and this is not the restaurant’s fault by any means) was that a group a few tables over from us had brought two young children with them, and they proceeded to rub their faces and hands all over the waterfront window along with being borderline obnoxiously loud.
