Caboose Restaurant

Delicious food, friendly service and a fun view of trains going by for children. Ordered a turkey club and it’s huge. My son wanted pancakes and they didn’t have them but man at the counter suggested french toast and it was a hit! Great little restaurant!

I’ve been wanting to try this place for several years. I finally did so last week. I was not disappointed. I had the biscuits and gravy train wreck which consisted of 4 perfectly baked biscuits, two scrambled eggs, and several round hash brows patties. The eggs were cooked right, the gravy was very good and the biscuits were soft. The portions were very large. I could not finish the meal. I will definitely come eat here again.

It’s a very cute theme restaurant. They have a huge window to look upon trains passing by, I loved it! I ordered the Caesar chicken wrap and it was delicious but just a tad bit on the salty side because there was too much sauce on it. The portion was so big that I took it home. Overall, the food was great :)

Had two wraps: 1) Turkey club 2) chicken, bacon & avocado. Both VERY TASTY and enough that we brought half of each home (we stopped here mid bicycle ride, so we didn’t want to fill up). Great service, by Kayla, and lovely view at the caboose counter… Watching traffic flow

I love the their wraps and fries! Caboose is great but I wish the hours were different so I could get it more often for dinner. I usually have to go on the weekends for lunch. It’s not exactly expensive here but when a group of us go it’s not always cheap either. The staff is very nice and when I get the chance I like to dine in. The decorations are cute and I like the coziness. I always recommend Caboose when people ask me where to dine in Mundelein!

I always get their burgers. The burgers are of decent size, and their service is always quick. While I am waiting for my food, there is a nice view of the railroad tracks through the windows which adds to its theme of railroads.

Very good gyros, and Italian beef sandwiches. Great place to go out to. Highly recommended.

The gravy train wreck was delicious and worth it. I will be coming back for it again. The service was friendly and prompt. A lot of people complain about the $ 1 surcharge for using a credit card. Bring cash to avoid it. My only gripe is that if you order orange juice it’s bottled. I could just as easily have brought my own.

We eat here about once a month, usually for breakfast or dinner. Its always nice to see the owners there. We also catered for a birthday party. The platter of wraps and tray of mac and cheese was a hit… almost no leftovers!
I personally love the coffee here too:)

Shady credit card activity… $ 1.00 credit card charges per order are against Visa and MasterCard customer policies. This is being reported to the credit card agencies and the Better Business Bureau, as well as the State of Illinois for inappropriate customer charges. They add this to your order as a line item and is inappropriate.

Went for breakfast Saturday morning around 10am. It was our first time here, when we walked in there was a girl at front counter. We were waiting for her to sit us but she explained that you order right there and then sit. We looked at chalkboard menu on wall and then ordered. I found that to be a little strange. We ordered the skillets. The food was great. I was a little surprised there where only a handful of people in there. We would definitely go back.

Easy to find. The service is very friendly. I had the train wreck it is a large portion so make sure you are hungry or ready to take some home. The gravy is very good no salt or pepper needed. Over all I would recommend

They have a huge menu in the front. Only difficulty here is when you deciding what to eat. The guy here is very friendly.
I ordered Eggs Benedict, it was awesome! Having a good Eggs Benedict with a cup of hot coffee, while looking out the window, enjoying outside view of Fall. What would you ask more for a breakfast?

A surcharge on credit card charges? I haven’t seen that in a while but the negative reinforcement did get me to use cash.
Oddly designed entryway in which you immediately feel constrained and can’t really see the sitting area and no signs directing me what to do. Yes I am married so should be able to read minds but a simple «Order at counter before sitting» would alleviate some confusion.
Adding to the angst is the myriad selections on the menu. Wow! Awesome! But a bit overwhelming when you are already confused as to what you are doing (these are all clearly first visit issues).
The dining area seemed slightly dirty. Like it had not been cleaned thoroughly in a while. Evidenced by a mystery stain on the floor i front of the ladies room. Oh and no AC?!

great little place. Not fast food (but is fast), but it’s a «walk up and give your order», waitress brings you your food. Guy behind the counter was friendly and helpful in suggesting what to order. I had a roast beef/​blue cheese/​onion ring wrap, sweet potato fries with cinnamon. My wife had the grilled cheese and the munchies (tator tots with cheese inside).
The décor is nice (trains for course), and there’s a giant picture window where you can see actual trains going by (tracks aren’t far away).

Fun little place! If you’re looking for a quick, casual meal that tastes delicious this is the perfect spot. When you enter, there’s a counter with the menu where you order. You get a number then grab your drinks and take a seat. It was busy but not crowded. The booths were surprisingly comfortable. It was only a few minutes before our food came and it looked really good. I couldn’t resist trying Ben’s biscuits and gravy first because it looked so good. It did not disappoint! The biscuit was fluffy and tasted homemade and the gravy was really tasty! My thick French toast was great. It was cooked well and was served with a yummy cinnamon butter. My only complaint is they don’t serve real syrup they only have the kind served in the individual plastic container. Overall, we enjoyed eating here and will definitely go back!

This is a great place for breakfast or lunch. My family came here on a whim because we wanted to try some places in the area that we have not eaten at. I went in expecting it to be just ok. I was surprised it was pretty good.
We shared the French toast, veggie eggs Benedict, and the chipotle barbecue chicken wrap. All were solid and I have to say that we all liked the food. My daughter was disappointed that they don’t have pancakes but hey, we can go to Walker Bros. for that.
Good food at a good price.

This is the best place evaaahhhh! I’m «carb intolerant» and they happily make changes to meet my needs. Example: I love love their hollandaise sauce, it’s to die for. I’ll order a «bunless» eggs Benedict. They don’t mind at all! I personally

I love themed mom and pop diners and Caboose def fit the bill as I was passing through the area a couple weeks ago and decided to venture in. The following review is based on breakfast only. I would def love the chance to come back and try the lunch menu items.
Came, saw and nearly concurred the gravy train wreck. Eggs and hash browns were delicious and perfectly cooked. Slight points off for the gravy itself… it was good texture and flavor, above average for sure. But I’ve had some darn good biscuits and gravy in my day and this one wasn’t as memorable as others.
However, if I lived close this would be my go to diner and breakfast spot for sure. Prices are more than reasonable so skip the fast food crap, IHOP, Denny’s etc and just come straight here if you’re in the area.
