First time I ever gave a place 1⁄5 star rating. Multiple orders were not correct, long wait and will not recommend to anyone.

Heard about this place and decided to give it a try, definetly lived up to its reputation, amazing, fresh food and such nice service!

I’ve been meaning to stop by this place for a while, since I pass by it all the time going to/from the Caltrain station. I always supposed that it would be a nice fast food-ish place to grab a quick meal. I finally stopped by sometime last week. Well, I was wrong about the«nice» part, though I guess I received my food pretty quickly. The cashier girl who took my order was a little sassy, but friendly enough. Things then went downhill from there. I got the chicken plate(forget exactly what it’s called); it basically comes with some chicken, rice, salad, and a pita. Overall, the food was lukewarm and not very appetizing. I found the chicken to be dry and the rice to be overly salty. Even the pita tasted… not like a pita; it was sweeter and fluffier than I’d expect. What bothered me the most, though, were the smells that I had to endure while eating, which quite frankly made me lose my appetite. I sat at a table near the back. So first, it smelled like the cleaning fluid they use the clean the tables. But after that the nauseating smell of air freshener(like the kind you would spray in your bathroom) permeated the air. I have no idea why the girl who works there sprayed it all over… I would have expected that smell to be confined to the bathroom. :( Maybe it would’ve been better if I had gotten take-out, but I still think the food they serve isn’t worth the money. So I doubt I’ll be back, unless somehow I got to eat for free. Also, I don’t know what this Gyros House thing is about, since I only moved to the area less than half a year ago. But it’s unlikely my opinion of the place as it is now would differ had I been to «Gyros House» before anyway.

OK: Five months later and Unilocal personnel still haven’t corrected the NAME on this business page to the form used on the business premises(«pitabyte»), despite knowing about the error. But Unilocal is now off the hook: pitabite(the renamed Gyros House with new owner but same menu, for now) is already on the way OUT, five months after opening. License notice in the window proclaims a new business coming, «Drunken Lobster.» A pitabyte employee confirmed this when I stopped there recently.

I feel like I need to give myself the Regina George(from Mean Girls) treatment and tell myself, «Stop trying to make Castro Street restaurants happen. They’re not going to happen!» This place was nearly empty, and I’m pretty sure why. The gyro was full of dry, flavorless meat, smothered in dull tzatziki sauce, and finished off with flavorless(iceberg?) lettuce. I ate about half of it and gave up – which is what I’m going to do with downtown Mountain View food. Bummer.

I had the gyro. I am not really sure that this is culturally authentic food. the meat was dry, no flavor, and salty. I will not return.

One doesn’t find many Mediterranean options on Castro. and for a vegetarian a Falafel Wrap seems a reasonable option for a quick bite! Happy to see the order being served in just about 2 minutes on your table. I do have tried some better falfels but this one was also one of the good ones. And their red sauce ! I can still feel that taste just by thinking about it. Would recommend Falafel Wrap/Dish to the vegetarians.

This place used to be Gyros House. It’s under new ownership, and even tho they seem to have the same menu, the prices are slightly higher and the ingredients are inferior. They changed the texture and flavor of the hummus. Gone is the fluffy buttery bread, replaced with pita. The rice doesn’t have the same flavor. Even the yogurt sauce that comes with the gyro plate is different, and not as good. Worst by far is the lamb and beef gyro meat. It’s got a lot less flavor, clearly using higher(or only) beef ratio. The meat isn’t as cooked(although cooked thru). Change for the worst in my mind.

I ordered the lamb and beef gyro. The salad was fresh and the sauce was sour. The meat was freshly roasted and not too salty. I like their chili sauce, it was very spicy and a little sour. I am not entirely sure about what to expect in a Greek restaurant. But I would like to return to this place and to try some other dishes.

Was great food. I was just looking around and found this place and BOOM! Mouth full of flavor when I ate the Lamb Gyro Plate. Was awesome. Definitely coming back when I’m in the area. Oh and they have Snapple Fruit Punch Flavor so none of that water stuff.

New name for an old business. The Gyro House is now called Pita Bite. The menu is almost identical with the exception of a few new meat sandwiches. The falafel sandwich is still the same and comes with all the fixings. the price is a little higher than I remember when visiting the Gyros House but that is to be expected for small businesses in the Bay Area.

So many restaurants option in Downtown Mountain View for you to choose but we end up get in to Pita Bite(it use to be Gyros House). I was so happy that they’re open cuz last time they were under construction when I stopped by. This place brought me lots of memories during the previous time when I was lived here. Of course memories of good food is the main reason to bring you back. The store looks nicer, cleaner and cuter with new tables and cool pics on the wall. I didn’t noticed that they’ve changed the owner. Seriously I don’t even know the name before, I just call them«Greek house«and we know where to go to .;) Food wise, I always repeat my order with«Lamb Gyro Wrap«cuz it was my favorite and I know it was good before so I didn’t want to ruin my appetizer for something else.;). I noticed that a little change with taste. Agree with other reviews that it was better before but actually I still love it. The sauce was awesome, the salad wasn’t that special and dressing is so sour(eww. I’m a sweet person you know .) My love for this place will never change .;) I would recommend you to come here and try out. I love Mediterranean food and this place is the best so far for me. I’ll be back for sure. No doubt.;)

Such a nice place to eat mediterranean foods in Castro street. This place used to be called gyros house and it was kinda under the quality. But there is a new owner and management here. They serve halal meat. I tried combo shawarma here and really like it. Recommend ppl who want to get their food quick on Castro street.

Way overpriced and marginal quality. Only went here because there were no other options at night

I love that place. Friendly service. I have to eat gluten free. I told them and they took care for me. Everything fresh. They have the best gyro.

Have to agree with all the other reviews: Pita Bites less than sign Gyros House(for those new to the area, Gyros House was the place that was here previously, as of now you can still see the name painted over the entrance). I got a falafel wrap. The wrap used to be delicious. It came in some kind of bread that was decidedly Mediterranean and was bursting with flavor. New one came in a flour tortilla. The flavor was meh. The lettuce mixed in looked like it came out of a supermarket salad mix bag. I really hope they can turn this around because the old place used to be great.

It’s been a while since id been to Gyros House. Guess it’s no longer there. Pita Bite looks and feels similar. But i felt like it was better. Git an Iskender kabob. Meat was ok, sauce was on the lukewarm side and the bread was a bit sogged too. Not bad but not as good either. I wonder if they just kept the same menu but the attention to detaila may have dropped a bit

This place used to be Gyros House. I was a big fan of Gyros House and ate there fairly regularly. It looks like a new owner recently took over and tried to freshen things up a bit. Much of the menu is the same, but they took out some of the deli items and added some more kabobs. They put on a coat of paint and installed some new LCD menu displays. Other than that, it seemed to be the same place as before. Unfortunately, my favorite dish had gone drastically downhill. I used to order the lamb gyro plate which I didn’t specifically see on the menu. They guy pointed to the lamb shawarma plate and said its the same thing. It came out looking like I was expecting and my hopes were high. However, the meat was missing all of the awesome seasoning, didn’t have that yummy seared gyro sliced-off-the-spit shape and had a fair amount of gristle. The cucumber yogurt sauce was also fairly bland and didn’t have the zing I remembered. At my core, it made me sad. I probably won’t go back. :(
