I like this place although slightly pricey. Happy hour is decent but food is good !!!

The best restaurant in mount pleasant for southern food. The best shrimp and grits in the area and I have been to other places not call them out, and this place is by far the best, a beautiful jewel right off of 41.

Ok so we make a reservation asking for a table in 2 out of the 3 areas… Where do they want to seat us… In the area we requested not to be when we made the reservation. I am very disappointed we have been regular customers since they opened, Been there numerious times when they were not that busy and today Mothers Day they say too busy to accommodate and honor my request. Well with all the excellent restaurants in Mount Pleasant I guess I will be going to other places… thank you

Well, Jim R., I have to say I’m surprised and disappointed that you rated On Forty-One so low – because not only were you accommodated when you asked to be moved – you took *my* party’s indoor table to do so. The experience couldn’t have been that bad because your entire party stayed and dined. You were extremely rude to the hostesses, and your entire party were making rude remarks and speaking very tersely to the waitstaff. Your behavior was appalling. But hey – you’re not all bad. You even tipped the waitress who finagled you an indoor table at my party’s expense. Good job! It is extremely frustrating to constantly see bad customer behavior rewarded. I even remarked as such to your waitress, but because you were loud and blustery, you got exactly what you wanted while other people had to accommodate and work around your poor planning and poor manners. Although we had a trying start to our meal, our waiter was very attentive and pleasant. I always get good food here, and I will continue to come back, even if there are way too many Jims in Mt Pleasant.

Well smack my ass and call me a happy camper. This place has delivered both amazing table and bar experiences. I’ve had everything from a salad(like, stupid tasty — you got a set on you, lettuce!) to the short ribs(Homer Simpson drool), to a snack at the bar and one of their creative cocktails. I am a big fan of this place — the only thing I really, really hate are their hours. They would make a killing if they shrunk their menu, made the portion sizes a bit smaller, knocked off a few bucks for lunch — say 11:30 — 1:30 p.m., reopening at 3. I would totally take a break and grab a glass of wine and sit outside to get away from the closed up pubs in the area. And while they open at 3 for HH on, with dinner commencing at 4, if you get there at 3, the chairs are up on the tables, someone is mopping — it is not a ‘hey come on in!!!’ atmosphere, and you have folks that are more than happy to drop $ 9 on a fancy cocktail. Mop at 2:30, guys! That said, go, check it out — it’s a good time with great food. And killer mirror in the ladies’ room!

This restaurant has very good food and great, friendly service. We had two appetizers, and both were delicious! The crispy chicken livers over grits with onion gravy are excellent, and the Tempura fried shrimp were some of the best ever! Our entrée was the night’s special; pasta with lobster, shrimp and tile fish. It was truly special! We loved the feeling of being outside, but being in an enclosed patio. Go out Hwy 17, and turn left onto Hwy 41 and go into the strip mall on your left. You’ll be happy that you dined there.

I truly enjoyed my fourth time here. I’ve tried the excellent fried chicken. The pork. The rib’s. All have been amazing. I particularly love the lobster shrimp n grits. The mixed drinks are top notch high end drinks at reasonable prices. Love em!!! Please try this place. The best service and friendly. They do it right.

Went through a Groupon. Of course, you have to tell them when you make Rez and before you order. So, the next thing you hear is they ran out of the Filet Mignon! The food was average. I didn’t care for the pork chop, it really had no flavor. My husband had the short rib and he thought it was average as well. The best thing was the fried oyster appetizer. We came from James Island, I doubt we would go back.

First time here. GPS makes it hard to find but well worth to search. We had the lobster and grits and a burger. Both amazing. We ended up being 16 people and everyone loved the food and samores. Thanks for being on Unilocal to find it.

I enjoyed the atmosphere in this place, cozy and quaint. The décor is cute and relaxing. I enjoyed the shrimp, lobster and grits. My husband had the braised short ribs. The kids menu is very basic so we had to make our own dish to satisfy our«foodie» 8 year old, which the kitchen did accomodate. Our food was good, but the service was mediocre. Our waitress was efficient, but not very friendly and just came and swept dishes off the table and didn’t really say anything but take the order and here’s your food. I enjoy eating at local places that are locally owned when traveling, so this we thought would be a slam dunk. Although it was a nice atmosphere and the food was good, we probably won’t be back. We are from out of town and between the unfriendly staff, and the small menu to fit the varying tastes of our family, we will try something else at our next visit.

Didn’t make it past the hostess station. Showed up at 7 pm without a reservation and see at least half a dozen empty seats at the bar and 3 empty tables in the enclosed porch area. Football playing on television. Asked if we could sit in the outdoor area. The hostess and another gentleman exchange some dialog and glances and after several minutes we are told we can only be seated in the indoor seating area. Guess you better plan accordingly and make a reservation in the off season for preferential seating. Enjoy your $ 23 pork chop.

The food was mostly good but two of us got the wreckfish, which was delicious, yet $ 30 for a casual restaurant, and local fish, seemed a bit steep. Margaritas were good, but 2 sips and it was gone. Truffle fries, delicious. Burger, not so much — dried out and not very flavorful. I think our table tried most of the appetizers and really wouldn’t spend the money on those again. Since the restaurant is so close to our home we will try it again.

Southern goodness! It’s interesting that you actually enter the place from the patio door into the large bar area, which is more square footage than the restaurant proper. There are cool industrial pipe light fixtures, but I could do without the plastic air fresheners hanging from them. I probably would have chosen a color more appetizing than mint green for the walls, but the cool black and white photography of low country scenes at least covers large expanses. We started with yummy fried oysters on a thin bed of creamed spinach – I would have just preferred a little hotter and a smidge crispier, just out of the fryer is how I like them! The dinner special was flakey white wreckfish served over creamy stone ground grits with a spicy sweet potato purée and crispy green beans – the fish was a tad overcooked and the greenbeans lacking a little crisp. The Granery’s housemade hot sauce is offered at this restaurant – you may have heard that Granary Executive Chef Brannon Florie is the owner of On Forty-One – and the sauce added the right amount of spice to the grits. The shrimp and grits dish also has meaty lobster, and while it was a good effort, it wasn’t the best in Charleston or anything. This place feels like a better than average little local hole in the wall type place, not quite on par with The Granary as far as flavor, complexity and creativity of its dishes but a good meal nonetheless.

On Forty-One sounds initially like the coordinates on a GPS, but this Mount Pleasant Eatery, now one year into its existence, offers a rustic restoration hardware design, open patio seating atmosphere, traditional menu of local favorites, a twist on some traditional entrees and a range of cocktails and wine to compliment any entrée or salad selection. We must include that if you order the s’mores for dessert, you get a personal fire pit at your table. Welcome to the world of On Forty-One. As you enter, most guests are won over by the enclosed patio area that is in fact more square footage than the interior, but does house the bar as well. Our wonderful experience was solidified by the fine service of Heather, whose candidness, patience and charm represented this restaurant very well. Deviled Eggs Deviled Eggs After mulling over the selection of starters that include BBQ shrimp, hush puppies, green tomatoes, ribs and friend oysters, we let our appetite lean us to the deviled eggs. This appetizer took the classic deviled egg to a new level. Three of the eggs were topped with diced bacon and three with salmon. Touched up with capers and brought to a creamy and sweet perfection, this was an ideal beginning to our meal and complimented our Pinot Noir and Cabernet nicely. Careful consideration when into the entrée selections. Surprisingly, Heather’s top choices were not ours. She recommended the Smoked Pork Chop and Braised Beef Short Rib. Both sounded amazing and will most likely be in our future, but we had a specific mission in mind. Lobster Shrimp and Grits and Grilled Salmon were our culinary picks for the evening. The grilled salmon was prepared medium laying on a bed of butternut squash risotto, sauteed spinach, baked pumpkin seeds and a lobster-thyme butter. This is a critical piece of information very relevant to this review. Enjoy each bite with all the ingredients on your fork. Start with a small end of the salmon, put a tiny dab of the butter and then add the spinach and pumpkin seed. This multitude of flavor was so cleverly designed that it will linger and then send a message to your brain for more. I did not mention adding the risotto to that bite. I want you to just enjoy the top portion of the entrée first. After that, then add the risotto to the mix, but also enjoy side bites of it alone. It is presented with a mild sweetness and a creaminess. The portion is healthy and you will enjoy slow bites over great conversation. Mostly likely, this could become a second meal when you take a portion home. The decision to go with the lobster shrimp and grits was simple; lobster is a unique ingredient and one not often found in the Lowcountry. My decision was easy. The stone ground grits were thicker and creamier that I am traditionally used to experiencing, but this heartiness structured well with the bacon, sweet onions, peppers, lobster and whole local shrimp. This meal as well, because of the complexity, was one that we recommend enjoying slowly maximizing the ingredients in each fork drop. This is a very savory and filling meal and it opened up Pandoras Box begging the question, why not more lobster based shrimp and grits. Don’t get me wrong, I do love a three meat shrimp and grits or a simple shrimp and grits. The combination of lobster and shrimp provide two distinct flavors and both swim well in a bed of grits. On Forty-One is slightly off the beaten path if you dining leads you to downtown Charleston, James Island or West Ashley, but it is worth the 25 minute drive. Hidden nicely in a plaza situated between Highway 17 and 41, this casual, yet intimate restaurant will offer you a complete and fulfilling dining experience.

My husband and I came across their restaurant through Groupon but Groupon or not this restaurant is worth every penny. I even fell in love with the décor as soon as we entered. It has what I can only describe as farmhouse-chic. A mix of the rustic and repurposed with streamlined and modern elements which work so well together. We ordered our drinks right away. My husband ordered their special cocktail, I can’t remember the name except refreshing and delicious and with bourbon and watermelon you can’t really go wrong. I ordered the Fall Collins, gin, cucumber, basil, lemon, and sparkling wine. It was the perfect mix of sweet and tart and was refreshing and light. For our appetizer we chose the hush puppies with pimento cheese and a Cajun remoulade sauce. For such a simple appetizer it did not disappoint! Our entrees were just as pleasing. I’m a sucker for salmon and theirs with acorn squash and butternut squash risotto and pumpkin seeds was right up my alley. The salmon was cooked to a perfect medium well and the lobster and thyme butter complements it perfectly. I’ve had quite a few risottos from some great restaurants and this one was no exception. My husband order the burger with pimento cheese and side of truffle fries. The burger was moist and flavorful and the very generous amount of truffle fries were perfectly cooked and more than enough to share. The service was exceptional and the staff was very accommodating and polite. We felt very comfortable and welcomed and cannot wait to go back!

My mom texted me a pic of her meal(grilled salmon) at On Forty-One a few weeks ago, so I was excited to try this restaurant the next time I came home. Fortunately, I’m home this weekend and got a chance to visit. My husband and I ordered drinks at the bar before our table. We decided to try the Forty-One Freeze. Neither one of us liked it, though. I think it was the coconut milk in it that threw us off. We didn’t finish them. Of course, my parents joined us for dinner. We tried the deviled eggs, which were really good. The table favorite was the option with salmon on top. My husband even said they were almost as good as his mother’s recipe, which is saying a lot because my mother-in-law’s deviled eggs are awesome sauce. I didn’t get to try one with bacon on top, but I heard they were good as well. As for entrees, the Hubs and my mom ordered the grilled salmon, and they both cleaned their plates. My dad ordered the burger, and he cleaned his plate as well. I had the New York Strip(I was starving), but it was so filling I didn’t clean my plate but had plenty of leftovers to take home. My husband and I tried the Kentucky Mule to try and make up for the Forty-One Freeze, and it was much better. We were about to leave, but decided to order some hushpuppies and another round drinks. The hushpuppies were yummy, and I liked the accompanying remoulade sauce. All in all, this is a great restaurant. I could totally see myself hanging out here on the patio(which is really nice). Why did all of the cool spots open in my hometown AFTER I moved away?

When I heard the Chef at The Granary, which in my opinion is the #1 restaurant in Mount Pleasant, was opening up a second restaurant, it quickly jumped to the top of my must-visit list. Although a bit of a trek from downtown(located on Highway 41 hence the name), the food and atmosphere of the outdoor space make it well worth the drive. The huge screened-in patio is home to a large bar with TVs and tons of tables, which I imagine once words gets round would make an excellent place for after-work drinks and bites at Happy Hour. The inside is an entirely different atmosphere, much more quiet and stayed. My friend and I opted to dine outdoors for dinner and brought a bottle of red wine for a $ 14 corkage fee. To start, we split the fried green tomatoes topped with pimento cheese and served over chow chow, which were coated in just the right amount of crispy batter. My friend ordered the Cheeseburger which came topped with pimento cheese and caramelized onions, served alongside a massive pile of truffle fries. Priced at $ 14 and huge in portion, no complaints from her on her decision. For my entrée, I decided to go with two small plates since the Appetizer section of the menu was what most intrigued me. The Chicken Livers were crispy and super filling for only $ 8, served with a bourbon jus over grits. The beer braised BBQ shrimp wasn’t my favorite, a bit confusing to eat with the shells still on, submersed in a broth that more resembled butter than BBQ. Overall I think the spot has a lot of potential with decently priced, unique options and an inviting outdoor patio that begs for Happy Hour or Sunday Brunch. Next time I hope to be back for their Happy Hour menu which I eyed when I walked in, served from 3 – 6 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday with options like $ 3 Pork Sliders with blue cheese slaw and $ 6 Disco Fries with pimento cheese and tasso gravy. Yep that needs to happen. Must-order items: Chicken Livers Fried Green Tomatoes

Have stopped by this place on occasion for drinks and had dinner once! The drinks are great and they have a fabulous happy hour!!! I love their Moscow mule. I had their burger for dinner and it was fabulous! Cooked to perfection. The fries ere excellent too :) I wish they opened earlier then 3 on Sunday’s and had a good brunch special. I feel like they would kill it with brunch and the food would be excellent! A friend of mine had dinner and had the Mac and cheese and said it was fabulous. The weekends it is always packed and the outdoor atmosphere is perfect for mt. pleasant and the cliental.

Finally got an opportunity to stop by On Forty One to check it out. I love the outdoor bar area and can’t wait for it to become the new hot spot this summer. They can open it up and expand seating on to the actual outdoor patio and really turn this into an outdoor oasis. The bathroom is super cool with very unique décor. I love the walls and the one inch deep sink is oddly zen like. It’s a little strange because size wise, it feels large enough to accommodate multiple people, but upon further inspection, it’s designed for one at a time. I wasn’t starving, but I had to try the food. I ordered deviled eggs and fried oysters. The eggs were great. I definitely enjoyed the bacon one’s more(who wouldn’t) and I’d love to see them create some unique ones or change them up seasonally down the line. The Fried Oysters were just amazing! The were served on a bed of creamed spinach with bacon, Parmesan, and pickled shallots which kicked it up a couple notches from your standard appetizer to a creative small plate. As for the other side of On Forty One, I’ve yet to dine there. The outdoor bar is this upbeat, fun atmosphere where a party could break out any moment, but once you pass through the automatic door(which I love by the way), it was like you just walked into a library. It was so quiet and intimate that you almost feel like you’re disturbing the diners as you pass through. It may have just been the night I was there but it seems like the focus is really on the outdoor area, but if you’d like you can also sit in this quiet room off to the side… shhhh. Either way, I’ll definitely be back and after getting a full on food experience, I’d like to say I see a fifth star in their future. I’ve been told the pork chop is amazing and the chef himself has advised me to go for the fried chicken. So there, I now have at least two more reasons to come back with a quickness. See you soon.

No doubt this place is convenient for«north Mt. P’ers» but you really need to check this place out for their smoked wings. Me and a few friends patronized OFO last night and we’re stamping this place as a solid go-to nosh nugget. We destroyed the app menu(ribs, wings, bbq shrimp, fried oysters and hush puppies) and, well, the wings reigned supreme. We will most definitely return for more beer-and-wing rendezvous. Dinner was a mix of the braised short ribs, lobster/shrimp grits, burger, and smoked chop. All good. The caramelized onions on the burger was much better than the usual raw offering. I’m not writing home about the braised short ribs but they weren’t the worst I’ve tasted. The chop was probably the top entrée. Service was decent but had a couple slow spots. An empty pint, in some cultures, is a sign that something is wrong. Very wrong. This should be the culture in just about every place that serves pints. As an aside, a couple of us thought the very existence of a kale salad(I don’t care how much caesar dressing you cover it with) and a veg plate with quinoa(really?) on the menu was just a sell out. Bless your heart. Really, though, be true to yourself. We could actually smell it… the faint odor of desperation to lure in the couple where the guy wants something substantial but his fairer half needs to have a healthy option to green-light going. So, well done to a new local haunt up here in the hinterland of Mt. P.
