Even though it’s so cliché, I’m going to say it — I really wanted to love Momma Goldberg’s. Unfortunately Momma G is not worth loving on. I didn’t hate it by any means, but I’m not jonesing to go back, especially when Square Onion is equidistant from my place and offers up the best deli sandwiches ever. Back to Momma G’s though. I walked in and was somewhat confused. There was one employee manning the bar, the grill, and the cash register. Bless her. I sat at the bar to decide on food and opted for nachos and chicken salad sandwich. Bartender/line cook/cashier/waitress/Jill of all trades continued to juggle all of these tasks and sooner than later my food arrived. The Momma’s Nachos had been hyped to me and quite frankly I’m not sure why. It was a plate of Doritos chips covered in pepper jack cheese and jalapeños. A lot of the chips that were used were clearly from the bottom of the bag. You know those 1⁄3 the size of a normal chip crumbs. Basically it was something I imagine a high AF college student would toss together in his or her dorm room and call it an appetizer. As for the chicken salad sandwich, I could have just as easily made this on my own at home. The«melted» cheese was not remotely hot and the chicken salad itself took mayonnaise to the extreme. Mama Goldberg’s does have lots of beer on draft and several TVs, so maybe it’s a good place to watch a game. It was a cute and casual atmosphere. As for both the food and service, I wasn’t particularly impressed. C’est la vie.

Met my husband today for lunch at Momma’s — As we were waiting for our order to be taken, we heard someone sneezing behind the sandwich counter. The guy then comes into view and he’s chewing food and then starts to make sandwiches. We then notice the other guy making sandwiches isn’t even wearing gloves. We then hear a customer sitting at the bar ask the girl taking orders if his order had been lost. We left — too many signs that this place is going downhill. The last time we were at Momma’s in October, my husband ordered a sandwich and they never brought it to him. They brought my salad to me and forgot his sandwich. Then they brought him the wrong sandwich. The guy wasn’t wearing gloves then either. WTH??? The first time I went to Momma’s — I was charged twice on my credit card. I had to go back and have the manager credit my account. I am done with this place. I have tried a few times for this place to get it together. Today was the end for us. WEARGLOVES when preparing food. There are too many options in Mount Pleasant and Charleston to choose from. We went to Firehouse Subs and had such a great sandwich! Friendly staff and everyone was wearing gloves.

The Bambino sandwich was exactly what I was in the mood for! The staff was friendly and I’d definitely go back if I’m ever in Mount Pleasant again.

My family and I stopped here on Black Friday for a quick lunch. The location is not on the Main Street and you have to know where it’s located or just get lucky. We found it on Unilocal, that’s how we knew how to find it. The menu had lots of sandwich, soup, and salad options that all sounded good to me. I decided on the turkey breast sandwich which comes with turkey, cheese, and honey mustard on a toasted bagel. It took a little longer than 10 minutes to get our food which I thought was a little long since they weren’t crowded. My sandwich was very good but still had honey mustard even though I asked for it to be removed. My family was happy with their Mommas love sandwich, turkey delight sandwich, and steak and kale soup. You should give this place a try but don’t expect to get in and out supper fast like a Panera or other fast casual restaurant. The prices are reasonable too.

My Five Star Friday review goes to Momma Goldberg’s Deli. We’ve only gotten food to go from here a few times. On this last visit, I stopped in to take food home and had a cocktail, or 2 while I waited. I had been to a happy hour with fiends so I needed something with substance to soak up a lil alcohol. I ordered the meatball sub, the buff burrito and a side of the baked potato salad. I knew what I was getting in to from previous orders, and a hot, steamed momma’s Sammy was just what I wanted. I was there during happy hour time so naturally the bartender offered up their specials. The draft I ordered wasn’t on the happy hour drink menu, but he gave it to me at the happy hour price, so that was a win. I made idle chat others sitting at the bar and really found myself relaxing and enjoying the place. My food arrived even before I could finish my beer, so another hash mark in the win column for speedy service. Both sandwiches held up to the short ride to my apartment and when I was able to finally sink my teeth into the meatball sub, I was pleasantly surprised. It was really, really good. The Buff wrap wasn’t all that bad either. It was a little wetter with the buffalo sauce, so it had some soaking. Nothing I couldn’t handle. To top it all off, the baked potato salad was a huge hit! I would go back just for that. Now, I’m not familiar with any of the issues other reviewers have experienced, because every time I’ve been there, it’s been on fleek. Do people still say that anymore? #FiveStarFriday

As an Auburn alum, I have a soft spot for Momma G’s which originated in Auburn, AL. So I hate to say it, but the food does not hold up outside of the hungover/drunk college student environment. I had fond memories of Momma G’s Chicken Breast sandwich served on a bagel, but outside of the college haze I discovered that the chicken breast was clearly a super processed, probably frozen«chicken» patty. My husband loved the Momma’s love during his Auburn days but said his sandwich was a huge letdown. And lastly, there’s Momma G’s legendary nachos aka Doritos with melted cheese. We discovered that the actual product(Doritos covered with processed Velveeta style pepper cheese) can’t match the quality of the ones we’ve replicated at home using real cheese. To sum it up, don’t expect much more than Subway quality ingredients from this restaurant.

I have now eaten food from Momma’s 3 times and only 1 of those times was the food correct. The first time we ordered out Southwest Salad. We received a Salad with croutons and not chicken. We called and they very graciously offered to buy us our next meal. Which we ate in and was tasty and correct. Round 3 was just today. I called and ordered, they didn’t read the order back to me(I should have known better). We ordered 2 sandwiches, 2 chips, and 1 sprite. I was working so my husband picked it up. When we sat down we had 3 sandwiches, 2 of the 3 which were incorrect. The thing is. The food tastes good, but service wise so very frustrating. The bartenders I have talked to very helpful, the manager extremely nice and helpful. My suggestion, eat there. That way if the food is wrong you can address it right then.

I’ll start by saying the bigger guy behind the counter making the food is very nice. But the girl behind the bar is worthless. Halfway through taking our order she went to flirt with some guys at the bar and never came back. For for 4.5 sandwiches and a half salad we waited 20 mins. At a real deli we would have waited 7 max. The«buff nachos» are actually DORITOS smothered in chicken and cheese. The food was very low quality, and didn’t taste every fresh.

Stopped by for lunch today — my Doctors office is just around the corner. The place is clean and looks nice. Had the turkey and swiss — it was ok… nothing amazing about the sandwich. service was fast & staff was friendly. thing i like about this place — isnt so much the food — but the beer selection… and cool bar area both inside and out. if i lived in the area — i gotta think it would be a cool place to grab a beer and maybe something to eat… i will try something else on the menu next time — maybe the soup is good.

Great sandwich shop. Cool atmosphere, friendly service, great menu selection. The meetball and pastrami sandwiches are both excellent. If you like loaded baked poratos the potato salad is a must. Sweet tea and the best crushed ice known to man.

I feel like this was a little less than 4 star but I like to be positive so I’m gonna go with it. I definitely recognize some of the issues others are mentioning, but I had a good experience overall and I’ll be back for sure. The ordering system was definitely weird, but the girl at the register let us know right away to step up and order whenever we were ready. We wanted an item to share so we figured we’d get some nachos. I love Doritos and nacho cheese so they sounded great to me. Things got a little confusing because she advised my friend that they were spicy, but we could special order them however we want. We ended up getting them with melted mozzarella, black olives, and banana peppers. The combination was surprisingly good. I would get them again. I had the Big Momma sandwich and thought it was great. The second half did get a little soggy but not falling apart or anything. It wasn’t drinking time yet, but they did have quite a beer selection and some great deals too. I guess I was expecting a deli with craft beer but they seem to operate a bit like a bar with deli food. There were TV’s all over and I was told that they often have live music and are open to 2am. I just moved down the street so I’ll check it out and report back!

If you’re going to advertise that you are open until 2AM, then you should probably still be open at 12:30AM.

This place is in walking distance from my apartment, so it has become quite the convenient weekend lunch spot. While reading all of the other reviews, I noticed quite the theme. Yes, the ordering process here is terrible. I too have stood in line many times with patrons who were not sure what to do, who to order from and where to go while waiting. I’ll be honest, I still don’t know where to order from. That’s okay though, as long as someone ends up making my sandwich, I’m happy. The steamed sandwiches. I didn’t know they were steamed either. Big deal. They’re delicious! Can I imagine that they are not a good idea for takeout? Yea, I’m sure. You know what else isn’t good for take out? Desserts, seafood, already dressed salads. You catch my point? If you want takeout, ask that they don’t steam your meal. Problem solved. I will admit, this is not a place to go if you are in a rush. It seems that every time we come here, a cook called out or a computer isn’t working. I admit they seem to lack some professionalism and appear to have a difficult time hiring dependable staff, but I am sure that is a problem that can be worked through.

We went to this place because it was right by our hotel. We were not disappointed. Even with the wide variety of tastes in our group, they were able to accommodate us all quickly and happily. I had a Veggie Wrap, and Sweet Tea. It was a good, satisfying sandwich at a fair price. I loved that the menu had such a nice variety. I could have had that same wrap on my choice of eight different breads, and I could have chosen from eight different toppings. If a person eats meat, he or she also can choose from nine different meats when putting a sandwich together. In my opinion, that’s as much variety as most people need. It was a warmer day, so I liked that they had ample outdoor seating. The waiter was also very entertaining. All in all, it was a very enjoyable dining experience at a very casual place.

Out of towner working in the area for the day. Mommas was very close to where I needed to be. Saw this restaurant on Unilocal and immediately said YES! because of the chalkboard type menu. I tried the combo with the corn chowder soup and the big momma special. LOVEDIT! The soup had great flavor and the sandwich was toasty warm which was fabulous. My colleagues though this was a fantastic place as well. They tried the chicken salad pita and the turkey sandwich. Both came with chips and a drink. FYI. . the drink comes in a reusable glass with the logo on it. Freebee. It was too cold when we were there but it looks like they have a great patio with live music and plenty of space to enjoy a beverage or two. Will be back to try the other options next time i’m in town

Food is the bomb here! Bartender is super nice and helpful. Service is sometimes a bit slow. Could use a better ordering system because it’s tough to know who’s up to order. I get the mommas love everytime and love it!

Yum. I got the Bambino and it was delish. It’s definitely an «eat it as soon as possible» type of place since the sandwiches are steamed and there’s a short window before they turn too mushy. For $ 10, you get a substantial-sized sandwich, a bag of chips and a huge drink. They don’t have the soda/tea station out in the open, they get your drinks for you from behind the counter. I think that’s kind of weird but whatevs. I’ll be back for another Bambino very soon.

I feel bad giving them three stars but after my first visit for take out that is how i feel. First, the location is extremely convenient to both the Mt. P and Charleston crowd alike. It is located across the street from Whole Foods and basically at the foot of the Ravenel bridge. Because it is a chain restaurant they have a pretty well laid out menu board over the cashier and next to the food prep area, where you can watch them make everything, is a bar with what appears to be a great selection of brew. There are plenty of high tables, bench seats, and outdoor spots. As for the food we split the Pastrama Momma(Pastrami, hot pepper cheese with spicy brown mustard and pickle slices served on jewish rye bread) and the Momma’s Nachos(Hot pepper cheese melted on dorito chips). The pastrami was thinly sliced and had great flavor! The only thing I would recommend for the sandwich is to eat it quickly as the bread will get soggy quick. The nachos were doritos with what appeared to be white velveta cheese and rotel. We absolutely did not like the nachos. The kid ate them up so they didn’t go to waste! Will I go back? Yes. They seem to make delicious sandwiches and that is what we will stick with next time.

I live right down the street from this place so I hopped on my bike and rode down for lunch today. As others have mentioned, this is a chain, but so what? Chain restaurants can be decent and to me, this didn’t have the chain restaurant feel(aside from the menu). I had a cajun turkey wrap and grabbed a bag of chips/soda to go along with it. I grabbed a seat outside which had ample seating given the fact that it was lunchtime. Overall, I thought it was pretty good. What really got my attention was the bar inside that appeared to have well over 20 craft brews available. I’m looking forward to coming back in the evening to enjoy a few of the beers they have on draft. I’d say this is a solid place for lunch. Whether it will be a hit for dinner or not really depends on if you’re cool with soup, sandwiches, salads, etc. for dinner.

While my husband and I were staying at a nearby hotel, we found ourselves looking for lunch in walking distance of our accommodations. Remembering seeing a deli«opening soon», we wandered over to the corner and found Momma Goldberg’s. Having lived my whole live on the west coast and islands beyond(Hawaii & Guam), and never having so much as visited the South, I had no idea what a Momma Goldberg’s was until now. Since we were dining there within the first week of it’s grand opening, I was happy to see that the restaurant appeared exceptionally clean and tidy. I was also impressed by the large and seemingly well stocked bar! Also was nice to see the option of indoor or outdoor seating. The staff there was incredibly nice, too! I was initially a little baffled by the ordering process because there were three people making sandwiches and a single cashier taking money/cards & filling drink orders but you would first order from the person making your sandwich, and eventually pay at the cashier. Maybe I’m just being weird but there were no signs or explanations of the ordering process so the first time I went through, it was a bit confusing. My husband and I ordered the Momma’s Gambino & Camel Rider sandwiches respectively. I also tried to order the peanut butter pie but they said they didn’t have it. Not a big deal, I ordered what was described as a «cookies & cream pie» and called it day. I also ordered a fountain cherry coke(bonus points for having cherry!) and a bag of Mrs. Vicki’s sea salt chips. The time it took to make our sandwiches wasn’t too long considering it looks like they steam the sandwiches to heat them? Again, the process wasn’t really identified on the menu or any where else in the restaurant. There were large press looking machines that were pouring steam out of the sides and all sandwiches were served wrapped in foil. We were waiting to hear them call our order so I was pleasantly surprised when one of the staff members walked up to us with our order in a neat black basket. Overall the meal was OK. I was a bit disappointed with my pita(and in retrospect should’ve taken what seemed to be subtle advice from my sandwich maker to order a different kind of bread). The meats inside were tasty and the pita itself was great but it didn’t stand up very well to what seemed like ½ cup of «Momma’s sauce» they poured in/on my sandwich. The sauce was zesty but was just a little much. My husband’s sesame seed bun seemed to stand up OK but it wasn’t until I saw my Dad’s to-go Pastrami Momma that I realized the buns and pita’s were probably the least desirable breads they offer. Also, minor point especially since this place JUST opened, but they did forget to drop off or hand me my «cookies & cream pie» which ended up just being a boxed single slice of Oreo pie as opposed to the thick, homemade pie that I was imagining. When we ordered my parent’s sandwich and side salad to-go, though, they happily put it in a bag for me, no questions asked. Overall, the food is OK. The restaurant is very clean and the staff are all super nice! Solid 3 stars
