Zushi Dozo

Stumbled upon this restaurant during a sushi craving. Our fav place closed and we hadn’t found a good one close by that we liked, UNTIL NOW. Their salad with ginger dressing is fantastic– mixed greens, not iceberg, and the homemade dressing is perfect. Sushi is fresh and their spicy sauce was one of the best I’ve tasted– not too much mayonnaise and the right amount of spice. Everyone was very welcoming, including the owner Tom.
We will definitely be back

This place is one of the better Asian restaurants I’ve been too. The dish is carefully prepared and served. I found this place a tad pricey compared to the quality and the amount of food you get. However I would come back here for the food though. I thought the sushi chief was top notch. When he was making my sushi he was explaining the art of his work. He also gave me a coupon for my next order.

Not too far off the beaten path of I-​295,… we found a tiny Sushi Bar niche’d into the back corner of an existing Korean BBQ establishment. Guided by GPS, we almost missed it, and after sitting in the parking lot double checking the address,… we walked into a near empty Korean BBQ only to be directed to the corner where the Sushi Bar was nestled.​We ordered the classics,… a little bit of everything. It was my niece’ first time,… I wanted her to try the basics before taking the palate plunge of no return :-)​Overall a great place; atmosphere, high quality to a reasonable cost ratio, great service and speed of delivery.​Definitely plan on stopping by again on our next commute :-)

I have had plenty of sushi, enough to know the good from the bad. Jae brings out the best in everything he prepares. More importantly to me, Jae is very personable, remembering me every time I come in he suggests something new based on my taste. I would gladly pay more for such an experience (but don’t tell Jae that!). I do not have the words to put how much I enjoy this place and think everyone should enjoy Jae’s sushi and personality

Came in from Denver for a quick meeting saw 5 star reviews on Unilocal so gave it a try; Great Tuna Poke; good dude running the joint; unexpected treat in south jersey.

the one element that allows Zushi Dozo to stand above and beyond the rest of the other «cookie cutter» sushi restaurants is the time/​effort that Chef Jae puts into these beautiful works of edible art. Every other sushi restaurant whether it be a top notch or a simple sushi/​sashimi place have gotten so far astray from the three key factors of sushi which are time/​temperature/​taste. Chef Jae has kept true to those philosophy all the while establishing a modern play on flavors for the American palate. It is with great pleasure I say that I will be returning to dine on the fresh taste and top quality products Chef Jae continuously presents to the diner. His charisma and charm also add to the overall experience and you really can’t ask for more than that.

We had a great time at the sushi bar and were served three delightful and delicious sushi rolls, to be shared by my friend and I.

Jae and his crew are knocking it out of the park. I had this spicy squid salad that had this killer mix of spicy flavors and textures that I haven’t experienced in the multitude of other sushi joints in the area, and I’ve been to plenty. Price is right too. Grab a bottle o sauvignon blanc and get over there.

Chef Jae is one of the very best! Very creative flavors and amazing sushi! An absolute must for sushi lovers. I don’t live in New Jersey but I’ll be back for Zushi Dozo!

The picturesque rolls melt in your mouth! The fish is always supple and the sauce pairings are exactly what I would put with them. These rolls are hefty — a surprise when other places have down-​sized their rolls. It’s the best quality I’ve had in the Philadelphia metropolis area.
If you have graduated from the California roll, you’ll truly appreciate the sushi here! You must try the Tribeca, Dragon and Lava rolls.
Jae is inviting and sincere. An all-​round great experience!

we ordered a 100 dollar chef choice sushi and sashimi combo… we were pretty disappointed… it reminded me of supermarket sashimi. the ones you buy at the Korean supermarket. I expected mackerel… large pieces of yellowtail sashimi. botan ebi. tamago… monk fish liver… something to say «I’m Zushi Dozo, this is what makes me the Jiro of Mt. Laurel!»
Instead I got a whole load of white fish, likely red snapper and sea bass… and the usual tuna and salmon… yawn. only highlight was the uni. wasn’t too hot about the quality of the fish… as mentioned it felt like I bought it at the supermarket… overall a mediocre variety of fish for way too much money… I should have ordered a la carte…
what added to the disappointment was that I expected fare like the pictures on Unilocal,but the 100 platter was no different than I can get at the supermarket… apologies, I keep referring to the supermarket, but that’s how I feel…
I am sure this place has more to offer… unfortunately being from NY I may be spoiled. but if the opportunity presented itself again, I would go back and pull up a chair by the bar and say «Jae, feed me and surprise me»…

Jae did it again. We had an awesome meal and tried sea cucumber this time. This is my second visit this week.

Excellent fresh sushi and the owner is cool. Definitely would go again. They’re rolls were creative and tasty. Recommend the trifecta and yellow tail. I’ve lived in L.A., Hawaii, and Korea and this place competes. Better than any other place so far in Nj.

Jae creates excellent rolls, balancing the delicate flavors of the fish, pairing them with sauces for special rolls. And if you prefer a more traditional, simple maki, you can’t go wrong there either!
All the ingredients are fresh. The presentation is beautiful (cause you know, we’re all taking pictures of it anyway).

Been to zushi dozo multiple times. Always great sushi. Best I’ve found in the area by far. Chef Jae is a the best.
Wife is pregnant and couldn’t eat sushi and was so bummed. Jae whipped up a few delicious cooked selections and everyone went home happy.

This place is amazing. The sushi bar is a restaurant all to itself inside a Korean barbecue location. Jae is an amazing chef, serving sushi with a presentation and combination of flavors that exhibits his 15 years of accumulated culinary skill. Beyond the great sushi experience I had at this place was Jae’s personable and engaging spirit. I had a great time, good conversation, and thoroughly enjoyed every bite of his well prepared dishes. Highly, highly recommended!!!

I cannot say enough about this sushi bar and its wizard chef! Its definitely the best place for sushi/​sashimi in the area! I lived in Cherry Hill for 3 years now and went from sushi joint to sushi joint within a 25 mile radius, but none have even come close to what I have been served at Zushi Dozo. 5 stars for quality of food and 5 stars for the exceptional service! I am only reviewing the sushi/​sashimi menu, not the Korean menu at the restaurant that hosts Zushi Dozo (separate establishment) — that I have yet to try. If you are a sushi fanatic, then do yourself a favor and stop in!
I usually don’t reveal great secret spots, but I really want this place to stick around! Not enough people are aware of its existence.

Love this place! Not only does the food speak to me, chef Jae Shin is remarkable with his culinary skills. I recommend the Trifecta. It has spicy tuna, sliced albacore and torched creamy white tuna. It was an orgasm in my mouth!
Great for kids and big groups. And another big plus ITS BYOB!

Place is located inside a restaurant, so take a seat at the bar. Jae’s (owner) English isn’t perfect but he’s legit. Don’t bother looking at the menus and just ask what’s fresh and he will give you the best that he’s got.

Absolutely best place in town! The sushi here is so fresh and not your every day sushi. The sushi options are eclectic and you can tell the chef has definitely been trained well. I highly suggest this Korean/​sushi restaurant looking for a great meal!
