My husband and I took a morning hike at Brown County State Park and stopped in here for the first time. The staff was excellent and friendly. Clean place. Friendly atmosphere. Breakfast was good! We plan to come back soon for dinner.

Pancakes as big as your plate! Brownies is definitely nothing fancy. However, if you’re in the mood for food that is an excellent value for your money, look no further. I had eggs and pancakes. I was going to order a stack of pancakes, but our server warned us about how big they were. I was glad she did as I could barely finish the one. I look forward to making this a regular stop in the way down to Nashville.

This is the only place near Nashville where you can get authentic home style food. Nothing fancy here, but if you want good eggs or biscuits and gravy… This is the place! Beware of CASHONLY though.

This place is quintessential diner food. Mostly friendly staff, great comfort food, nothing fancy but everything you need for a quick delicious meal. CASHONLY

While the food and service were ok, they are stuck in the past with not offering credit/debit card purchases… That’s right; cash and check only. Doesn’t seem to hurt business though as they were packed on a Sunday afternoon.

We actually had less than great food. But our waitress was awesome. We told her this was our first time stopping there after several pass by’s. She raved about the food, as we looked at the plates going past we agreed. Our food arrived everything was burnt and all over cooked. Waitress came back when we were almost done picking thru the meal. Apparently my poker face was not working. She was appalled and very embarrassed about the look and quality of our food. She started to scratch things off the ticket, than tore it up. Told us she was too embarrassed after«bragging» for us to pay. Told us there was a new cook who did not know what he was doing and was overwhelmed. So Honest! Bet she got the best tip of all the staff from us that day!

Before today, I had eaten at this establishment twice – only because it’s basic breakfast and relatively cheap. Unfortunately, I should have known that a place with an unimaginative name like«Brownie’s» would eventually show its lack of class. A busy Sunday, they were on a wait. Ok, fine. We drove up, saw people outside, it’s a given. We also knew it was a small place and we’d have to wait outside. We arrived, and the hostess came charging through the parking lot shouting at us, as if we were an imposition: «You all are gonna have to wait outside and it’s going to be twenty minutes!» No polite tone, just a nasty bark from a hatchet-faced white trash Daisy May. We said nothing and waiting – longer – but again, we’re understanding. Then we were told our table was ready – it wasn’t – it was a ten-top piled high with filthy dishes. We were not going to sit there until it was cleaned. The waitress literally opened the door and screamed at us: «I told you people to get in here! I’m going to give your table away!» In the midst of all this, some young woman saunters through a full parking lot like she has all day – I thought she was a patron. Turns out she was coming to work – she began lethargically cleaning the table while we waited. What does she say? «Any of you ever waited tables before?» Then goes on to say how people don’t understand what it means to work in the service industry. HUGE mistake! I told her I had waited tables before and if I had been working that table would have been cleaned 20 minutes ago. Here comes raptor-face hostess again, with«I’m not taking any of this from you ma’a’m. Yeah, you’re right. And you’re not taking my money either, Miss Remedial Ed. 2015. We went to the Pine Room and were treated like royalty – with people greeting us kindly and seeing to our every need. «Brownies» is a big BROWNEYE!

Ordered a healthy(if not totally healthful) three egg omelette with cheese and ham. A nice creamy cheese filled fluffy egg pocket with flavorful ham. Chose the biscuit as my bread and added a side of sausage gravy — again creamy with large chunks of sausage. Soooo good, I ordered another half order of biscuits and gravy when I finished. A true roadside diner with Hoosier hospitality and exceptional country cookin’.

Went here based upon a friend recommending. Got the fried chicken dinner special. Food was just average but the worst part was that we were not too hungry so asked for an extra plate so we could share. When we got the bill we noticed we had been charged ala carte for our food and they added a plate charge without any disclosure. While they fixed the bill upon checkout, I had to call it out. Won’t be back.

Nice casual atmosphere. Great service. They serve breakfast all day long. Try the Roast Beef Manhattan or the Biscuits & Gravy as they are both really good.

Homestyle dining… friendly service(and fast!)…very affordable prices. We had beef Manhattan, meatloaf with scalloped potatoes and green beans, and blackberry cobbler… for just under $ 20! I definitely recommend this place… even the dinner roll was delish. Just make sure you have cash.

Simple home made food. Prices are very reasonable! Very friendly staff. The portions were large and the price was great. The food was pretty good especially for such a small place.

I would have to say that the food was wonderful, but I’ll tell you that it stuck in my throat after what happened to me at this place. My family came from this area and told me how wonderful Brown County and it’s people were and are. It’s true except for a few. I had traveled by plane from California to Indianapolis and landed a 1:00AM. I was told to drive straight through to Nashville to be safe. Since I was staying at what turned out to be the best B&B ever on Greasy Creek Rd. I decided to stop at Brownie’s and wait for them to open. I figured on it opening early(6ish) and having no where else to go, I sat in the car. I was very uncomfortable, tired and needed to use the restroom. Finally a woman who I guessed was the cook showed up. I got out, introduced myself and asked if I could come in and use the restroom and then come back outside and wait for them to open. She seemed friendly and said, «Sure, I just have to open up.» At this point I should mention that I was a 40 year old lady at the time. I waited and waited until it became apparent that she wasn’t going to open the door to me. i thought perhaps she got involved with something. Then the waitress showed up. By this time i was really really suffering and need to use the facilities so I asked the waitress the same thing. Again, she seemed friendly and said, «I’ll be right back.» Images of relief and a hot cup of coffee perked up my tired self. Then: NOTHING. I decided to wait until 7:30 and then just get to my B&B when this man comes out. I thought he was going to apologize and invite me in. What I got was: «DOYOUHAVE A PROBLEM!!! THESHERIFFISONHISWAY!!! I just stood there dumbfounded with my mouth open and finally explained the situation. He told me that I had frightened „the girls“(one was my age and the other late twenties). I asked them how on earth one woman in a rental car could frighten anyone, but he sloughed it off and said, :“Sorry but they thought you were there to rob the place.» I should have just left, but by this time I was shaking in the cold, tired and REALLY, REALLY needed to use the bathroom. I stayed and tried to eat, but like I said, I was shaken up and they did nothing to put me at ease. The food literally stuck in my throat. They didn’t even give me a free cup of coffee. I would have settled for a least a friendly demeanor, but they seemed suspicious even after all that. Thankfully, the rest of my stay in Brown County was beyond wonderful, but the trip certainly got off on the wrong foot. I had even planned pre-trip to go back for the Friday catfish, but I don’t think that I’ll ever step foot in there again. By all means, go there if you like, but beware stopping by early if you are a hungry and tired traveler. The market up the road has killer fried chicken. I went there later.

If you are looking for fancy dining, this is not it. But, if you’re looking for tasty and affordable food with friendly and incredibly fast service, you can’t beat Brownie’s. They have a somewhat limited menu, but their daily specials are awesome. I recommend their Chicken and Noodles on Mondays. However, their Friday special is THEBEST: All you can eat Catfish. This is the best catfish I have EVER had. There is absolutely NO fishy aftertaste. It is clean and fresh and sooooo tasty with a light cornmeal crust. Plus, their hushpuppies are delicious! If you want breakfast, I recommend their GIGANTIC pancakes(seriously…they’re huge… one is more than enough). Lastly, even if you’re full, it is still worthwhile to get a slice of pie to go. Their homemade pies are incredible(and under $ 3.00 per slice!!). Their meringue pies are especially tasty! The ONLY reason I am not giving this 5 stars is because they still allow smoking in their main dining room, which upsets me. I’m very sensitive to cigarette smoke, and sometimes it is uncomfortable for me. If this place went to No Smoking, it would be close to perfect for down home cooking. P. S. The entire staff is friendly, but an extra thumbs up goes to Toni. She is always friendly, upbeat, funny, and FAST!

My folks and I hang out every Saturday and go for a road trip down to Nashville Indiana. On our way down we found this little gem. We pull in, sit down and are served immediately. I had no clue what to order and when I asked Toni(our server) she goes«All of it». So I got a cheeseburger(My old stand by) with Fries and a Dr Pepper. Holy Crap it was amazing! The place is pretty cheap too. I have nothing negative to really say about this place. Just note that they don’t take credit cards, Cash /Check only!

Forgot to mention the French toast, which they have every day. You can get it made with wheat bread, which I’ve never seen before. Wheat bread French toast turns out to be tasty!
