This is the best eyeglass store I’ve ever been to. Excellent customer service, great selection of high quality brands and super fast turn around. These guys quoted me an excellent price on a frame and lens that other places wanted upwards of $ 400 more for the same pair. I’ll never go anywhere but here for eyeglasses.

Other positive reviews accurate. Only negative review’s validity should be evaluated by poster’s picture. Upon ordering accessory telephonically, staff accurately predicted arrival, called me and shipped item, saving me trip. A local business that deserves support — even from out-of-towners like me. In-store experience accurately described by other positive reviews.

I have to admit that I was a little reluctant to drive to Montclair from Parsippany(there are plenty of other eyewear retailers near me), but with my recent horrific experience with a Pearle Vision and my attachment to my Lindberg eyeglasses(one of the lenses broke and only a authorized Lindberg dealer can replace them), I decided to try Gleek and Howard. ANDTHATWASTHEBESTDECISION I MADE!!! They listened to my trauma, they helped me with my favorite Lindberg glasses, they provided me with a level of customer service that practically doesn’t exist anymore! They are the most awesome eyewear retailers in the world. They are professional, they have reasonable prices and they have a certain level of laid back feel(which is comfortable — you can relate to these amazing guys) and knowledge that surpasses most retailers. This isn’t one of those high pressure sales places, which I like because eyeglasses are expensive and never should be a rash or rushed decision. They provided me with an embossed receipt so that I can submit to my insurance company for reimbursement and answered every question I had regarding my glasses. I have no idea why the first reviewer gave such a negative review(he must be a cousin of a competitor…). When it came time to adjust the fit of my eyeglasses, they took the time to fix and adjust everything for me. And sometimes I feel bad asking over and over again for adjustments, because I don’t want to be those overbearing and unreasonable people, but for a pair of glasses, I wear everyday, I thought it was worth me asking the experts for the tweaks. They took the time to address every concern, not matter how small and made sure my fit was perfect. They never made me feel like I was imposing or asking too much. They were actually happy to help — you can’t ask for better service! I’m so glad I came to Gleek and Howard. They are professional, extremely responsive and provide the best customer service I have experienced in a very long time. I will be a forever loyal client of theirs.

One of those rare, very positive experiences. Thank you guys. First off, an important disclaimer. I am one of those very demanding customers who knows all about what they are buying way before they actually do buy it, bluing the lines between an educated consumer and an anal know-it-all. I am happy I made my way to this shoppe. Though it did look plentiful, I cannot speak much of the selection, as I went there to look at a very specific premium brand. I was thoroughly impressed though by the incredible service. Two separate people at separate times(yes, I did spend quite a bit of time in there taking up space and annoying people with my energetic 20 month old baby) spent time showing me different models, accurately guiding me through different style choices(as per my fashion-conscious wife) and constantly adjusting each frame for optimal fit. All that while the store was practically packed with shoppers and clients who were picking up in an impressively continuous cycle. Even though they do not process vision insurance, nor have an in-house eye exam option, I will definitely be circling around again at some point or other. This is not a discount store but it exudes confidence and trust in a way that one desires from their jeweler, watchmaker, tailor, etc, meaning that you can expect the right answer to your eyewear-related questions, something that IMO matters when you are considering spending a small fortune on a pair of glasses. Sincerely, A Future Customer.

Very positive experience — great service, knowledgeable staff, good selection. Somewhat pricey, as others have noted, but will return next time I need a new pair of glasses.

Certainly not an inexpensive shop. However, Bill and team have always been able to quickly guide me through a sea of quality frames right down to one or two that would work for me. I recently bought frames made by Paul Smith. I loved the style, but the standard lenses were not tall anough for me, given that I would need to use the glasses for both distance and reading. So Bill was able to add a few milimeters to the height of the lenses which enables me to use them for reading, but in no way diminishes the sleek design. Having custom clip on sunglasses made was a breeze as well, and they fit perfectly over the custom lenses. Lastly, I had to go back to have the width of the frames adjusted because although they felt comfortable in the shop when I tried them on, extended use was uncomfortable. Adjustments were made quickly and effortlessly.

As a Consumer, sometimes in life you are lucky to develop a «relationship» with a certain store or product. That is the most accurate way in which I can describe my 100% positive experiences over the past 15 years or so with Gleek & Howard and its owner, Bill Berk, in Montclair, NJ. I have worn glasses ever since I was a child and since contact lenses never«clicked» with me, the selection of eyeglasses and prescription sunglasses has always been the«key» to my appearance; whatever someone thinks of it. Whether I needed the glasses for law school, being a lawyer, to play tennis or even when outgrowing the law and working for my favorite client as an independent filmmaker, Gleek & Howard has always made my life transitions look seamless as my stylish eyeglasses always depict what others tell me is an attractive and confident individual.(Many of these compliments are unspoken, I just know what they are thinking!!!) In all seriousness, I am writing this«Review» now because life has thrown me another curve ball and I needed new eyeglasses to adapt to growing older, needing Cataract Surgery and then searching for the dreaded«old man’s reading glasses.» The kind folks at Gleek & Howard knew years ago how important the selection of eyeglasses was to me because I suffer from an autoimmune illness called Crohn’s Disease which leaves me with little ability to control my life. Therefore, any aspect of life I can control, I try to do so with as much style and grace as I can muster. With eyeglasses, that always means going into Gleek & Howard, explaining my situation to Bill or to one of his trusted sales consultants and then sitting back and trying on the various pairs of glasses they select for me after carefully listening to my ideas. It is never a situation of me having to mull over the hundreds of stylish eyeglasses on display at Gleek & Howard. Rather, someone always narrows down my search to 5 – 10 pairs of glasses and then I try them on and we share our respective candid assessments. Thankfully, this time I was told I needn’t give in to Father Time just yet as «Progressive» lens made it possible to maintain a sense of style despite now needing a more complex prescription. Within 15 minutes, Bill, his staff and I outfitted me with Frames I LOVE and they recommended a certain type of NEW Progressive lens which would ease my transition to wearing one Frame with differernt prescriptions for distance and reading. This is why I refer to my consumer experiences at Gleek & Howard as a «relationship» and with the selection of each new pair of eyeglasses, the relationship matures and it just gets easier and easier in the future when I need new Frames. Bill and his staff are also acutely aware of my health issues and they always factor them into every purchase I make at Gleek & Howard. Finally, in my humble opinion, Gleek & Howard mirrors the diverse and unique environment of the city in which it is located; namely, Montclair, NJ. There is something for everyone there. Whether you need to own the latest and most stylish Frames or you just need a comfortable pair of reading glasses, Gleek & Howard can satisfy your needs. Their«service» also doesn’t stop after the sale as they make themselves reasonably available afterwards in case your Frames need tightening or if they just need to be adjusted after somehow falling out of alignment. I imagine there are eyeglass stores which have lower prices but it has always been my experience that you get, what you pay for. At Gleek and Howard, you pay for Expertise. And let’s face it, when I get compliments on my eyeglasses(as I often do, which is pretty cool), I always gracioulsy say«thank you» but I had nothing whatsoever to do with their selection; it was ALL because of Gleek & Howard’s time-saving and consumer-specific recommendations. They pick them out and compare them to each other and without any regard to profit-margins or inventory issues, I am always told which Frame looks best on me. If you want shopping for eyeglasses to be that easy and rewarding, I suggest you visit Gleek & Howard.

helpful and knowledgeable operation, very service oriented with good selection of eyewear. Probably the best I’ve ever used and I’ve been wearing glasses for about 60 years. If I move away from Montclair I probably will continue to come back to these guys if it is feasible

I don’t know how they manage to stay in business or keep the lights on, because while they like to think of themselves as a «Manhattan eyewear shop», their overpriced, dated and unimpressive selection has not changed since 2008. I was hoping that they might have stepped things up a bit in the past few years. They are completely off putting, rude and generally disinterested in customers who walk into their shop. I took my money to Manhattan and bought three frames and prescription lenses. So much for supporting the local businesses. When I inquired if they accepted any insurance, they snapped that they did not take insurance… period. There was no attempt to explain the possibility of an itemized receipt that I could in turn submit to my carrier. I was fully prepared to pay cash, as I ended up doing the next day in Soho. Their loss.
