After enjoying the experience that was the original Duryeas Lobster Deck for many years our expectations were low when the new owners took over this year. Sadly, those low expectations were met. It still has the great waterfront view. But, the BYOB policy is gone replaced by expensive glasses of French wines. Also a mandatory $ 4 water fee is imposed on each table. The layout has been improved and accommodates more customers though many will not have a view of the water which is one of the attractions of the place. Service and staff are definitely more professional. They also now take credit cards you’ll need them as prices have jumped a bit too. Now for the bad part. The food. We had Lobster Rolls which though they had plenty of Lobster were rather dry and tasteless. Though the sweet potato chip fries that accompanied them were very tasty. We did not have the $ 24 Salad bowl but, it did look like it would be a good choice to start for three or four people. Now for my biggest disappointment. I was hoping the new owners would keep the old delicious Duryea’s New England Clam Chowder recipe. Sadly, they did not. Instead you get a Clam Chowder that tastes more like Potato Soup than the fresh clam chowder of the old Duryea’s. The cream that used the thicken the old Duryeas chowder has been replaced by a potato purée. Also gone is the much of the copious clams and flavor of the original recipe. Because of the changes we will no longer make Duryea’s one of our go to spots when staying out in the Hamptons as we had done for years. But, we still have memories of how it use to be. Unfortunately, the new Duryea’s does not meet the same bar as the old one for us.

This is a mixed review. First the good… The renovation by the new owners of Duryea’s is perfect. An elegant improvement without taking away from the original charm of the place. Nice job. Now the neutral… Charging $ 4. for water whether you want it or not really isn’t cool, but it’s your call to do so. The disappointing… The lobster rolls and New England Clam chowder are completely different from the original Duryea family recipe — and it’s not good. The Lobster Roll was surprisingly bland, and we were not quite sure what the base for the New England Clam Chowder was but it appeared to be a yellow potato. It didn’t resemble anything close to NE Clam Chowder, and just like the Lobster Roll, it was bland. We also ordered the calamari appetizer which we enjoyed. In the future we give this place another shot and try other things on the menu, but it’s disappointing that our two favorite things about Duryea’s — in addition to the fabulous view — are now a total miss.

Expect to pay a lot of money for dishes like plain corn($ 9), French fries($ 18), bread basket($ 6) or water($ 4). Water is automatically charged to your bill if you want it or not. There is no waiter/waitress instead you fill out a form and walk up to place your order. Food is delivered to table but they do not serve you or pour your wine. No drinks other then limited wine and beer menu. Food was very good but expect to pay as if you are in a fine dining restaurant with impeccable service but you are really getting over the counter food. Luckily for them the views are amazing but not sure if that’s enough to return at the prices they charge.

NOTWORTHTHE $$$ Giving this 3 stars for the atmosphere and location. Been going to Duryea’s for 20 yrs for their lobster roll — THEBESTONTHEEASTEND. Last summer we saw it as a gift that they were still open after the new owner bought it. We heard it was still open this summer — 2016, so we went to have our fav again. It looked completely different, updated and upgraded. Before we sat on plastic outdoor furniture and ate off paper plates and used plasticware. Now it’s completely re-done. However, the food is NOT upgraded. It is MUCH more expensive but the lobster roll is not nearly as good as they used to be. Went from $ 22 per roll to $ 34 per roll. They charge $ 6 for a basket of bread. $ 18 for French fries for 2 people, $ 15 for corn on the cob for 2 people, the clam chowder was awful! No taste at all! Yes, the ambiance is great, the location could not be better but the food is lacking. We will not be back. Not worth the $$$!!!

Went already twice this year to Duryea and we intend to go very often! it is simply amazing. The view is just tremendous, food is AMAZING and the atmosphere is great. Don’t be surprised by the pricing. Most dishes comes in Family Style and on top of that, the service is included in the price. It is a laid back setting with the best view you can get on the water! The salad comes in a huge bowl that can serve a family and please, people should pay attention when they write reviews about the fact that it is for many servings. To compare, portions and pricing is similar to Harvest, a local favorite, except instead of getting a big plate of pasta, you get actual great dishes with proteins and incomparable in terms of quality of food. A whole chicken? $ 39. My child took the sliders kid menu for $ 11, it was hard to beat in Montauk. My husband and I enjoyed the gigantic seafood platter. There is so many oysters there that it is almost impossible for 2 adults to eat all of it. The Mochi ice cream was mouth watering and very generous. It is QUALITY with a local vibe. The market is a nice plus, filled with local products. Can’t wait to be back!

im fine with freshening up the patio furniture and the interior of the establishment, but why in the world did the über rich new owner not pony up for their recipes and keep the food(and kitchen staff) that made the place a destination for all these years… yes the view is nice too, but lets face it, theres views all over the place in montauk, people came here for the food(and the view). the lobster roll was famous and amazing, this was always my first lunch every visit to montauk(and I go to montauk 10x a year at least) and every other day there… now, its basically plain lobster meat on a dry bun, boring, not distinct and not a reason to come back again and again. I was really hopeful when i heard it was staying ‘duryeas’ and just being updated etc… the new digs with the old food would have been a home run… now its just another lame overpriced place in montauk(and it wasnt cheap food before, but it was authentic food, and amazing).

HORRIBLE experience… this is not the same Duryea’s! We arrived at 12:30pm last Sunday for lunch, and were directed to stools next to the kitchen. We asked to sit at a table, as there was not a single other customer there. The host said no, and that tables needed to be left open in case any larger groups came. They said we could sit on the two stools closest to the kitchen or leave. Worth noting here that not a single other customer came in during our time at Dureyea’s that day and all of the tables remained empty. I went to the counter to order, and ordered two soups(chowder and bisque), a lobster roll, and a burger. I asked for the soups to come out first, as we had time to kill because we were waiting on a train. She explained that she could not space them out, and everything would come whenever it was ready. I totally understand process, but again, we were the only people there. Fine. I asked for crackers to go with the clam chowder and they said they would not provide crackers as that is not how it is to be eaten. At this point, we should have just left. The soups came, and they were absolutely terrible. Neither had any flavor and had not been seasoned at all. Neither of us could get past the first few bites, and debated what to do. We were both embarrassed to send the food back, but also could not justify paying $ 11 on each soup for something that was totally inedible. We finally decided to say something, and told a waitress. She said she had never eaten the food there, so could not help us. Huh? Someone else came over a few minutes later and removed the soups and said that we would not be charged. Next was the lobster roll and burger. They were just bad. The lobster roll was seemingly assembled by someone with no knowledge of what a lobster roll is supposed to be or taste like. It was a small serving of lobster meat thrown into a bun, with nothing more to it. For what is I believe the most expensive lobster roll in all of Montauk, this is just unacceptable. Last but not least, I just want to point out the obnoxiousness that is having«$ 4 for unlimited water» on the menu, which each customer is automatically charged for. We will never return.

We were sat and served menus with a pencil to circle our order and instructed to place our order up to the window across the restaurant. We decided on our food, got up walked over to the window to only have to wait for a few inconsiderate European tourists giggling like school girls picking out what they wanted at the order counter. The employee didn’t seem to care I stood there for over 5 min with an order ready in hand. I came to the realization this over priced $ 70 lunch for 2(with a mandatory $ 4 water charge at every table) was becoming more of an inconvenience to deal with and the rest is history… Went to Gosman’s Dock down the road. Great food & Great service.

The new Duryea’s representative of all that has gone bad in Montauk. This once casual outstanding culinary landmark has been renovated into a pretentious, expensive eating establishments with very mediocre food. $ 34 for a run of the mill lobster roll with a staff dressed like Halloween in hell fluttering about providing free ice water. Outstanding views but skip this place if you have any self-respect.

We went there around 5pm and had a early dinner. Waiter and waitress are very friendly. We ordered 2lb lobster, market veggies, clamchower, and calamari, they are all good! like the fact that the chowder is not too salty, so you can add salt to your taste. Since we got there too early, and we don’t want to missed the sunset, we stayed till 8, the waiter was so genuine and offered me a blanket. Two years ago, we were here to see the sunset at Gosm dock, but I have to say this is one of the best spot for sunset, come around 6ish to 7, so you will enjoy every bit of it :)

I came here on Saturday at 630 witha group of 10 people. It was a great place on the water. It was really breezy so the servers brought out blankets for everyone. Small selection of wines and beers which was nice. Actual service was fine but their ability to time the food was HORRENDOUS. They brought our entrees(in about 10 minutes) before our appetizers and our drinks! They then brought our apps while we were eating our lobster rolls. Then they forgot 2 seafood towers as part of our apps.(Which turned out to be fine because we had enough food(their loss)). Food was very good and the servings were plentiful. Being in the industry I’ll give them a pass simply because it was the first weekend in their tourist season and im sure they had a bunch of new employees who dont know how to expedite orders.

First time at the«new’ Duryeas. This is technically a market and has new indoor and outdoor seating with waiters. Somehow, the fact that you bring your order up and pay makes it not a restaurant in the local zoning sense. They supposedly charge you gratuity automatically(no clue how much, they didn’t give me an itemized bill) but I did add a bit more when I paid. I guess it would have been rude to ask for an itemized bill. Oh well, I quickly got over it. They have a very limited beer and wine menu. First the good– the place looks fantastic. They do have an indoor market where you can buy fish or clams or lobsters. And it gets better — our food was excellent. Everything. This was the best lobster roll I’ve ever had. My wife and daughter are very tough customers and their meals were equally impressive. Here’s the catch. The prices are beyond outrageous, even by Montauk or East Hampton standards. $!1 for a bowls of soup. $!8 for French fries. Ok ok it’s supposed to be larger portions for sharing, but be prepared a lite bite for three is going to run you at least $ 125. I dunno, even when I can afford it I hate paying such inflated prices. A 24 –pc sushi dish was listed at $ 81. Unless they are filleting it at the table no way is that justified. The hard part. This did not feel one bit like Montauk. Sure the name still says Duryeas. And it’s got a great view of Fort Pond Bay. This has more of a Euro feel, right down to Euro lounge and Trance piped in on the speakers. Still early days, but I fear this place could be crawling with pushy obnoxious A-holes in their Range Rovers soon enough. Somehow the concept of sitting on a picnic table having a lobster roll has been transformed into what is currently the priciest place in Montauk. All in all we will probably be back, but we fear they are targeting a customer segment that may make it hard to return. Fewer and fewer places in Montauk that still have a local feel, where you can actually bring the family. Great food, but I wish it were more accessible to locals and visitors alike.

Chose Duryea’s because we had heard they had really good lobster. When we got there it was a little bit confusing as to whether we had to go to the Lobster Deck to be seated or inside the building. Once we were finally seated we were ready to order. We were going to get fried calamari but they were out so we went with the bread plate. The food came out fast, maybe too fast if they were boiling the lobster fresh and plating it. The lobster was good considering it was my first time having it that way, but I wouldn’t say I am now a lobster fanatic based on that experience. Also, there only seems to be outdoor seating, as the inside was a bit dingy looking. It was a chillier night so our food was cold relatively fast. I did notice they had those outdoor heaters but none were being used. They did give out blankets to some of the other tables. Be warned, there is a 4 dollar water fee automatically applied to your bill and they are certainly no longer BYOB. To order you have to go inside to a counter and you pay the bill before receiving your food. That being said, if you’re eating at Duryea’s go for sunset because the view is amazing!

Just had a most wonderful lunch at Duryea’s Lobster Deck.. There are new owners — they opened appr a month ago. The whole place has been re-done — it’s absolutely gorgeous. Lots of seating outside with the most spectacular water view((sunset at Night). I had the lobster roll — it was perfect — lots of lobster meat and very little mayo. Was served with Cole slaw and yam chips. Excellent. My husband had the Tuna Tartare which was also good. Would have been nice with a piece of bread with that. The service was excellent — very sweet and efficient. The manager Hugo was outstanding. The restrooms were spotless. The whole place has a very modern chick look. We will definitely be back. Anni

My family, friends and I have been going to Duryea’s for about 20 years. When it was sold, about 3 years ago, we had hopes that the new owner would keep the spirit and essence of the place, as well as provide the superb lobsters, that were cooked perfectly and fresh. It had it’s quirky little foibles, like paper plates, plastic cutlery, etc… but the perfect lobster and beautiful setting more than compensated(though we often brought our own cutlery and plates!!). Svetlana and Aida were gems in looking after us, and the ladies in the kitchen never failed to cook the perfect lobster. The new, revamped Duryea’s is beautifully updated, honoring the location and essence of the location and place. I am giving the new Duryea’s 4*(I would like to give it 3.5*) instead of 5 for the following reasons and hope that the new owner will take to heart our feedback… The«1.75lb» lobster was no where near. 1.25lb at most. It was room temperature, which meant it had been cooked ahead of time. The corn was also room temperature, not hot. I appreciate we are old school, die hard lobster lovers and that most of the clientele during the season may not care… but for us, it was something we would like to see remedied. It made me, personally, realize that I go there for the lobster, not only the view and the atmosphere. I think the previous review is a bit harsh… don’t go to Duryea’s for french fries or crab cake… just Lobster, and Duryea’s, get it right. Cook your lobsters perfectly, straight from the ocean to the plate and don’t try to pass a barely 1lb lobster for a 1.75 lb one. Hugo and Aida were gracious and enthusiastic.

R.I.P. Dureyeas. $$$$$ Where to begin? Do not expect to roll into Dureyeas for a casual bowl of chowder and lobster roll with your favorite bottle of rose. The EPIC proportions of douche baggery on display here will send you running to your car. Fussy, pretensious, a white coat uniformed French chef over seeing the 12 person kitchen. The casual outdoor patio now a pre-set dining room reminiscent of an NYC upper East side café. A madras plaid, pastel colored clothed managerial staff work the room. it feels like Disneyland or worse Nantucket. bring a handkerchief, there will be tears. Food: Dureyeas chowder for years the Best around is no more, now a yellow soup comprised of cream and Giant chunks of potatoes I mean a bowl full of potatoes, seriously WHEREARETHECLAMS? Get this: $ 18.00SIDEOFFRENCHFRIES, I AMNOTMAKINGTHISUP. 1CRABCAKE, YES1CRABCAKE $ 21.00 we only had chowder and a crab cake. It was too painful to stick around. Bring your own cutlery, wine, or anything else you would like to drink… Lobsters are perfection and I would stick with them and go somewhere else for things like tuna and scallops etc…, which are expensive for the surroundings(which are nil, except for the view). I just hope they don’t give into pressure and $$$ and close down… or worse, turn it into some trendy hot spot!!!

This place has one of the best lobster rolls ever– not too much mayo and big chunks of lobster. Their clam chowder is good– if you like the creamier version of the soup, but for me it was a bit too heavy. Haven’t tried anything else on their menu, so can’t say if it’s good or not. It’s basically a seafood shack with outdoor seating, beautiful views and nice breeze. Super casual atmosphere, service is not too friendly but it doesn’t matter because you order the food and pick it up yourself from a window anyway. Definitely recommend this place for a quick bite or lunch, if you are craving a lobster roll.

Solid lobster salad made with a creamy mayo dressing and large chunks of lobster claw. Portions are on the small side for $ 22 a roll but it is very tasty. The clam chowder is amazing and I highly recommend getting a bowl for $ 8.50 rather than a cup for $ 7.50. The cole slaw is also quite good and is a great dip for the chips. Cash only and it’s basically a small shack with self service and outdoor seating. It can get windy by the coast but the view is stunning on a warm day. Worth a detour.

Duryea’s: Where the word«rare» has no meeting. Two of us asked for or tuna steak to be cooked rare and the third asked for his steak to be prepared rare. After a half hour wait, all the food came cooked well beyond well! It was like eating hot canned tuna… It’s very depressing to pay $ 30 for a tuna steak and have it cooked all the way through. I didn’t even bother sending it back because I was hungry and if they could be that far off, there is no way they’d get it on a second chance. I’m just glad I didn’t order the swordfish special… The chowder was good though…

Beautiful ocean view, quiet and in general good place if you stop for lunch or take some food to go. Lobster salad plate with tomato and lettuce is a bit pricey, compared to some other states like Rhode Island or Maine. But being in Hamptons you get used to everything overpriced here. As for quality– lobster itself is fresh, not frozen like in some places here. But to save and earn more money they invented a trick: they put pretty much of crab meat from a can to their lobster salad. 1⁄3 I’d say. The pieces are small and if mixed with lobster meat, celery and mayo some customers don’t even notice that. But you definitely feel it in the taste. It’s not that bad, but the fact– it’s much cheaper than lobster meat and they use this trick. They have BYOB policy and that’s nice. Dogs are not allowed. Cash only.

When this place opened years back the lobster rolls were so stuffed that you had enough to eat for the day. Well, since the business was sold this year the new people apparently are trying to pay for the purchase in one season as when we ordered 3 lobster rolls to go for $ 90, there wasn’t a pound of lobster when you combined all three. If you like lobster rolls, go buy some rolls and lobster elsewhere and just walk up the hill to an overlook for a better view and a better deal.

After reading all the positive reviews about the lobster rolls at this place we decided to give a try. I just thought it was very mediocre, and for $ 22 they could at least serve it in something other than a paper plate with plastic silverware. The only thing I really did enjoy was the view.

I’ve been coming here for years. Lobster rolls are the best !!! It’s very casual, cash only, relaxing with breathtaking view!!! It’s just one of these places that you have good seafood with a drink and it’s quiet. You can bring your own booze and have it on the deck with little neck clams! It’s just one awesome hidden spot! –4 stars for the lobster roll. –4 stars for the little necks but they were really stingy with the serving size. –1 star for the crab legs. When the food arrived I had high hopes. It all looked delicious they gave us a huge portion of crab legs although the serving of little necks was pretty stingy. Lobster roll was standard. That being said the little necks were delicious and the crab was some of the worst I’ve ever had. The lobster roll was tasty. The crab legs were neither warm nor chilled. I’m not sure how long ago they boiled them, but they were not fresh. The meat was super salty and tasted like they had been boiled in super concentrated salt water bath. The meat was really dried out and slightly fishy. I’m pretty sure they gave such a large portion of crab legs as these otherwise would have been thrown away in the garbage soon. That being said the patio is beautiful, but we were really too disappointed with the crab legs to ever recommend this place. We paid over $ 50 for that lunch. Not impressed.

So the first thing you should know is that Duryea’s was sold earlier this year. Whether or not the place has transitioned to the new owners or what the future holds for the restaurant is unclear. What is clear is that Duryea’s served me quite possibly the BEST lobster roll I have had on Long Island. Fresh, huge chunks of lobster meat, not too heavy on the mayo and a fresh bun are what make it for me. Now, at $ 22 it’s a pricey lunch, but in my opinion, worth the expense and the trip for something memorable. Couple this dish with the water views, sunshine and a cool ocean breeze, and you’ve got the quintessential Montauk afternoon. So at this point you might be asking yourself, «If this was the best lobster roll you’ve ever had, why only 3 stars?» The answer is simple; everything else. The opposite-of-friendly counter servers, the spiderweb encrusted interior and the barely edible frozen patty hamburger that may or may not have been from 1994 really made for a disappointing, and frankly unappealing experience. My recommendation in spite of my A-OK review is to go because Duryea’s is a Montauk landmark that may not be around for much longer. PS: Obviously if your’e going, you’re going for seafood, which is really the only sensible choice at Duryea’s. We happened to order a hamburger since my wife is currently«off» seafood, but this may be applicable for you if you’re with children or Irish friends; all of whom in my experience don’t care for the ocean’s bounties as I do.

I was here several times many years ago &LOVED it. Everything from the food to the appropriate seaside ambience. However, apparently all good things must come to an end. Duryea’s has been sold, &2014 will be its last year. So if you’ve been putting off visiting, now’s the time. Before it’s turned into an upscale Baby Boomer/Yuppie restaurant &/or seaside condos.

Came for the lobster dinner. Cute, casual outdoor setting, beautiful sunsets on calm water, so make sure you come at that time because the atmosphere is really one of the only reasons to come. The lobster dinner was $ 33 and came with a 1 ¼ lb steamed lobster, cole slaw and a baked potato. The lobster was excellent, the cole slaw was way too heavy on the mayo for my taste and the baked potato was so overcooked, it was shriveled. The poor thing. The local corn was $ 5 an ear, which while tasty, is a really a crime against corn. The place is BYOB, so that’s a plus. CASHONLY!

Fresh seafood, BYOB, and killer views. Seems like Unilocalers have had pretty varied experiences. We had a pretty good experience when we came here about a week ago. Our group ordered a bunch of stuff, including the lobster rolls, the grouper, the swordfish, and the clam chowder. The lobster roll definitely came in a hearty portion– lobster was very fresh, it was just a bit heavy on the mayo. Clam chowder was great– clams tasted fresh and the consistency of the chowder was just right. The friends who ordered the swordfish and grouper were very happy with their choices– apparently both were also very fresh and tasty. The seating right along the water, the BYOB, and the low-key vibe definitely bumps this place up in my book. This place isn’t anything fancy(you can head down the street to Surfer Lodge if you’re hoping to see and be seen), but that’s exactly what I dig about Duryea. Just a few folks operating a seafood joint out of a shack. Pick up your lobster roll when it’s ready, sit yourself down by the water, and sip on your beer as you enjoy the view of the water. This place would get 5 stars is if the prices weren’t so high. As others have mentioned, the prices aren’t quite in keeping with the self-service, disposable plates, and picnic benches. So make sure you bring plenty of cash when you come!
