This review is mainly for the Bar(there is a dining room as well). This may be the only place in Montauk that looks like a real bar(at least in the center of town). Someplace to sit down and have a beer and something to eat that has a comfortable neighborhood feel. Happy hour deals are really good. Had the Shrimp basket(buffalo). It was very good and came with fries that were awesome. I also had clams on the half-shell that were fresh and tasty.

Happy hour. Now here’s a place to be. Live band, GREAT food(baked clams –AMAZING) can’t forget dancing and an awesome atmosphere. EVERYONE that works there is great. From the owner to manager, chef, bartender & hostess. Even the customer are all nice. You will not have a bad time here.

The new and improved shagwongs tavern is a must go for locals and visitors alike. They have a happy hour from 4 to 7, three dollar drafts. Although the menu is still limited as of this posting everything is delicious, Mahi sandwich to die for, chicken fried chicken cutlet sandwich is awesome, did someone say burger, oh yeah, best burger in town. Shagwongs is locally owned and operated, when I say local I mean I went to high school with jason. Stop in check it out you won’t be disappointed.

I am shocked. It is a whole new place, but it is still that familiar Shagwong. The dining room looks very welcoming and warm. And the menu is fun and new, and not just a recycled town menu. ALL the restaurants in Montauk seem to have the same things just worded differently, but here they are trying new things. Homemade potato chips with cajun spice, blue cheese and balsamic reduction was AMAZING! Definitely a must. I also tried the tilefish was that nights special. Garlic Asparagus, a poached tilefush with tobacco butter and confit grape tomatoes. Super tasty! I will definitely be back. Keep it up Shagwong.

Was there on a Sat night on a cold April night. A fun and chill vibe. Very hospitable folks, as long as one respects the vibe and ‘treads lightly’. Will be back!

Just threw $ 30 out at Shagwong, a Montauk institution recently bought by the same people who opened Saltbox, one of our favorites, in the old O’Murphy’s space in town. Saltbox opened last summer with a limited, but very good, bar menu, then expanded as the season went on. Shagwong, it seemed, was doing the same, offering a limited bar menu. Based on our experience at their sister restaurant, decided to give it s try. Big mistake. No table service, no wine to speak of, frozen fish filets. The apologetic bartender told us the owners plan to concentrate on the food next season. Then don’t serve any. Absolutely awful. Helene B

No, say it ain’t so SOLD! Loved this place, always was our first stop when we came to Montauk for lunch and always for dinner. Stopped in for a burger and their clams and the place was empty. 4 people at the bar. Handed a paper menu with a choice of 5 items to choose from. We figured let’s try the burger. Served in a picnic plate with ketchup squirted in a little container, and some fries. Anyway, won’t be going back… ever. I can’t believe it. So disappointed. What a waste!!!

Update, 9⁄7. I’m told via facebook they are renovating and will reopen the kitchen. No restaurant anymore. Was there over the summer and no menus were ever posted and the dining room was devoid of tables. Disappointing to see another landmark gone. Nothing but a watering hole for losers now.

Great Pub. Finally pub in the Hamptons. They had a great Reggae band on the week night I stumbled in.

Best fries I’ve EVER had, soft and warm and lightly salted. Incredible! They do a great clam chowder as well. I wanted everything to go and they were very nice about it, giving me the clam chowder in a to-go coffee cup with a plastic lid and half a ketchup bottle to go with it. Great service and great food; I would definitely come back here!

Stopped here at 4:30. Everything is very bland and lacking flavor. The French Onion soup was just good. $ 8. The cup of New England clam chowder was just good as well. $ 5.50. Flounder was not that good. Nothing special at all. The Calamari was pretty bland actually. Had to put salt and pepper on it and I never did that before. Actually, I didn’t want to finish them. They were probably frozen. Even the Pepsi had no flavor. Tasted like it was expired. Waitress was definitely not looking forward to the season. Bland personality and attitude. I guess I am saying this place was just bland. Nothing more! We went to the wrong place tonight. I will try anther later.

Okay, so this is a local bar with a «restaurant» attached to it. A little overpriced, but that’s completely due to its Montauk location. French onion soup was okay. The burger was actually really good. My bf had fish and chips, and that was decent. The place could use a good cleaning, but it was off season ~ maybe its better in the summer months.

Well, won’t be going back there again. 9.50 for a shot? are you sure? Because it seems like the bartender was just making up prices. After finishing our very expensive meal, my husband went to the bar to get us shots. the bartender ignored him, our waiter saw him and came over to see what he needed. He got a whiskey shot and they didnt have what he wanted for me so he told the guy i was a lightweight, so something not to stong, maybe fruity… so we get our shots that came in one of those shot glasses that is half solid glass, less than half left for the alcohol. Mine was fruity but not strong at all, which was fine for me. But when the bill came and they were 9.50 each, and one was marked whisky on rocks and the other just malibu we had to ask the waiter if that was right. He came back and said yes it was right. My husband didnt want to argue so he just paid, but told me after the waiter went to the bartender to ask and rude bartender said something like dollar, dollar fifty, whatever and brushed him off. So maybe they were mispriced and he didn’t want to be bothered. Well we won’t bother you again, we’ll find somewhere else for anew regular place. Shame because our waiter was nice and so was the chef who made a great meatloaf and mashed potatoes, but that was over shadowed by the nasty bartender.

Take my review with a grain of salt, as I didn’t actually eat their food. We went in late morning /early afternoon. All I wanted was an Irish coffee. Guy said it would take about 10 minutes to brew the coffee, I said sure we’ll wait. And then about 5 minutes went by and he said something along the lines how it’s going to take more time. Basically I got the vibe that he didn’t want to make a pot of coffee just for my one drink. He convinced me, after awhile, that I wasn’t going to get my drink. Eventually walked out.

Do not bother coming in here, service does not exist and asking for a drink is like a taboo here. They are not friendly at all and you will get looks!

Why are they still in business is the question my husband and I asked ourselves as we walked out literally couple of hours ago. For an establishment in Montauk and prides itself to be a Seafood Restaurant, we expect to get quality seafood., well we didn’t get that, not even close. We don’t mind paying a lot as long as we get what we paid for. And when it comes to seafood., we are what you can call a pioneer. This place Is a rip off, smells, overpriced with no justification except it’s located in Montauk., that’s it! My husband ordered 8 pieces of Blue Point oysters and came with NOT blue point oysters, half the size of a dollar, yes including the shell. The rest are regular sizes but looks disgusting and not fresh at all., I couldn’t eat it. We had to get our server’s attention and express our concern and she simply answered with a great deal of attitude that oysters comes in different sizes., and I answered: then why price it the same? I think that’s unreasonable., and she just said well our oysters are $ 2 each regardless of its size., unbelievable! Next is Prince Edward Mussels in marinara sauce., what came are baby like mussels, no flavor of marinara at all., tried adding pepper and salt to no avail., so bland., meat we’re so tiny that I got tired trying to pry it out of the shell not even halfway of the dish, just refer to the pictures I posted, you’ll see what I’m talking about. My daughter ordered the burger steak with mash and veges. Meat is too salty that my husband had to give her a third of his steak smh! My husband ordered a 12oz steak., he said it’s decent., nothing to write home about. I ask to doggy bag the leftover mussels so it won’t look awkward but went straight to their garbage receptacle outside. Never., never again!

I didn’t dine in so I can’t speak for service. There was a host standing outside and as I was passing, asked if I wanted to take a look at the menu. When traveling solo, I tend to forget meal times so it’s sporadic. He was my reminder. Can’t go wrong with crab cakes right? I took it back to the hotel, grabbed a book to read while catching a bit of the sunset. The first couple of bites were really good — probably because I forgot a meal in between, but for the second crabcake on my platter I kept getting pieces of the shell in every bite that just made it too annoying to finish. That shouldn’t deter anyone from trying but there are so many places to try just in that plaza, I don’t see myself going back for just okay $ 17 crab cakes with shells in ‘em.

What the fuck is wrong with you people? Just stay in Murray Hill and the Upper West Side next time. Shagowng is a Montauk institution, probably skip the restaurant section and order yourself a cup of chowder at the bar(pairs perfectly with the draft Budweiser). Or some littleneck clams on the half shell(also pairs well with the draft Budweiser). The fish sandwich is ok if you have reasonable expectations. Mostly fishermen lining up at the bar off peak for some Buds and OTB. Good, friendly barstaff — buybacks are forthcoming.
