Umi Sushi

The staff is awesome and they have the best priced Bento Box in town. Not to mention $ 1 Sake Bombs. You can’t go wrong with this place. Also, very clean and you’re food is out fast!

Very rude server lady. All we asked for was to substitute the California rolls for extra salad on the bento box and she had a huge problem and proceeded to lecture us about the inconvenience. Been coming here for 5yrs. Will not be back again.

Normally I don’t have a problem with this place but today I came in and ordered to go. I get home and I open the first box and half of my sushi had fallen to the side. I’m like ok maybe I held the bag funny… then I open the next one and its completely off to the side. It looked like it was placed that way purposely bc it fit in that way perfectly then I go to grab both with chopsticks and I couldn’t even grab either of them. My food was just falling apart :/​I’ve ordered the same thing before but never has my sushi fell apart like that. Very dissapointed

Decided to try this place for the first time. It isn’t good. Sushi is bland and what bothered me the most is that the wasabi tastes like nothing. I will never eat here again.

Came here last night with a group of friends whom I haven’t seen for over a year all together. The staff were very gracious in the amount of people we had in our party. First we said 5 people but then it grew to 6 and they easily accommodated us. If you have a party of 6 or more, I would give them a call ahead of time so that they can be prepared.
Food was delicious and all of our food arrived at the same time. Crunchy Roll, Spicy Dragon Roll, Dragon Roll, Teriyaki Benito Box, Spicy Ramen, and an Assortment of Sashimi was what our party order on separate tabs which was no problem in keeping track for them.
Atmosphere was dark, but also lite well by the over hanging lamps. Normally the place is quiet/​moderate, but because we were there– we definitely made the place loud for sure. Sorry!

I actually really love this place because the food is great! But when there’s something wrong with you order they make it seem like it’s your fault! My friend had ordered a bento box but didn’t receive that and mentioned that to the waiter && she looked at her like she inconvenienced her. So when it came back to the table we were questioned if she had eaten the rice… Umm are you scarce on rice back there? But also what was alarming was that there was bugs in their soy sauce bottles on the table…

This is my fiancé and I’s favorite sushi restaurant in town! I’m never disappointed with any of their food. We have our favorites like the Miss Kim roll, the Red crunch roll, and the Two in One. But there are so many options that we can try something new every time! We will go for lunch or dinner but Monday through Thursday until 5:30pm they have half off select sushi rolls! We love Umi!!!

Food is pretty good. They have a half off roll specials during the week. I usually come during lunch and their bento portions are very generous. Everything here seems reasonably priced. Come check it out. 99 cent sake bombs too!

My friend and I ate here last night, (it was our second time). First time there weren’t any problems with anything. This time we thought it was odd to be asked right away how we would be paying for the meal, credit, debit or cash. Service was good and the meal came out fast. Everything was fine until literary the last bite of my shrimp lovers roll and the unagi (eel) on top had a disgusting taste like it gone bad. This was the first time I have ever had to spit something out in a napkin. I thought for sure I would be sick and sure enough I got a stomach ache a couple of hrs later. I should have said something about that disgusting last piece but I didn’t because I had eaten everything until that and it tasted fine. I thought they would just think I was trying to get a meal for free.
Then it came time to pay for the meal (with cash) and we we’re given a hand written receipt. We found that fishy, no pun intended.

It’s with a heavy heart that I received such poor service. Interesting how people Guage customer service…

No smile… Just a point to sit… The Redhead was a fan and mentioned how they are a bit rude. But she always sees the best in everything. (Not this time though)
Once seated a woman came up and asked us what we wanted to drink. Easy enough, «Hot Green Tea please»
Just as she was walking away she asks:
«How you pay… Cash, debit or credit… «
Confused… Jaw dropped… HUH…Going through my mind. Redhead replies: «Uh, card…»
Woman comes to take our order simple enough:
Redhead gets the MJC Roll
I go with my standard
Tako
Hamachi
Spanish Mackerel
Roll arrives, it’s good, we actually really enjoyed it.
Redhead starts asking about the Tako and suckers and how everything is going to taste.
Tako arrives… excited…one of my favorites.
#Frozen in the middle…
Frustrated and irritated already from the «How You Pay» comment this ship is sinking fast.
Then comes the Hamachi, tastes old and smells. The Daikon is brown and wilted. All I wanted is fresh fish especially since I have an issue with fish in the valley for this reason.
The server woman comes over and The Redhead and tells the woman that it is frozen, they literally go back and forth for a minute saying frozen. Finally walking away looking confused.
Final straw — Spanish Mackerel comes out… The color is off, the smell is noticeable and the fish is falling apart. The Daikon under it is quickly turning brown.
I take a piece and try… I hold it in and The Redhead sees me take my napkin and I pull it to my mouth as I empty the fish into the napkin.
Couldn’t take it anymore. Pushed the food away and left it.
Paid with our card and left frustrated.
They took off the Tako, but I left no tip and I have no desire to step into that facility again.
It’s unfortunate, but with Top Rated Sushi Garden across the street the only reason I will be in that shopping center will be for Mongolian.
Step up your game…

I am new to sushi so I don’t really have much past experience to compare Umi’s sushi to other restaurants… however, I received great customer service. I will be returning!

Holy crap, 50% off house rolls?
That tied with exemplary service, fresh fish and cold Sapporo, what’s not to like?
I took my wife, daughter and 2 yrs old grandson there and was treated like royalty.
They definitely do sushi rigjt!

Didnt greet us when we walked in.

I went to order food to go. When I entered, the staff saw me but nobody welcomed me or instructed me where to go to order. I went to the register in the back and someone finally came. Pro: select rolls are 50% off M-​Th. Con: the rolls are just mediocre. see picture.

When we walked in, we were greeted by a lady who I think was the owner and she was very nice and friendly! Select rolls are also half off on the weekdays! There’s a pretty wide selection and although it’s not the best sushi I’ve ever had, it was pretty decent especially for being half priced. Our waiter was also very helpful and checked on us often and after our meal, the lady that greeted us came to our table and chatted with us for a bit which was nice too. Will be coming back for the half priced rolls & friendly service!

Friendly staff once they realize there are people standing by the door waiting to be seated or waiting to be told to seat themselves… Disappointed in the variety, seemed to only have a lot of different rolls but few non sushi options. Everything seemed mediocre with the food and my boss and I felt a little underwhelmed as we left. Later that evening at around 2:30am, food poisoning struck. I usually have an iron stomach and have eaten some very questionable things in the past. Never have I experienced food poisoning until that day.
My boss and I arrived nauseated to our morning meeting the next day. Probably won’t touch sushi for a second…

Really sweet new girl that works there supper yummy sushi and the miso is okay the new girl was very intent to our needs very sweet

First time here. Food was ok and the waitresses were very friendly, BUT I’m not ever going back. A man came out of the kitchen area and went to the men’s restroom with a single glove on his hand and returned back out with that glove still on his hand and went back to the kitchen. I told our waitress and she said he is just the dishwasher. As if that was somehow more reasonable and acceptable? Oh yeh, and I ordered two Nigiri that I just remembered I never received!

I like the variety of sushi. Something for everyone. I love baked muscles yum. And do I have to say it? .99 sake bombs. Sometimes you just need a .99 sake bomb!
Prices of rolls are a bit on the high side. But the .99 sake bombs are priced juuuust right!
The friendly staff make you feel good and so do the .99 sake bombs!
In summation, food yum, peeps cool, muscles nice, sake bombs are the bomb.

Half off menu is only Mon-​Thurs but All Day! The service is always good and you really do get what you pay for. The prices are affordable (so don’t expect anything too fancy) and the portion is very filling. If you love raw tuna with a modern twist, I recommend the Volcano roll because it is pretty big in portion and toppled with tuna.
Be sure to double check the rolls before you bite into them; I have found plastic wrap left behind on a few of my rolls.
Overall, if you want quick, affordable, and tasty sushi in the Modesto area, Umi’s is a good choice due. It is a big place and they don’t get too busy. Not to mention $ 1 SAKE BOMBS!
