Taqueria’s San Jose

I’m new to the Modesto area so I’m not sure if this is location is related to the one in Riverbank, but the one on Patterson in Riverbank is way, way better than this location.
I came in last night and the lady taking the order was rude, but more importantly the food was just alright.
I ordered my daughter and horchata and it had a weird taste to it, like the machine needed to be cleaned so I threw it out. It had a gross after taste. The burritos had more rice and beans than meat and I agree, the pastor was a little on the burnt side.
We tried this location because it was closer to where we were at the moment, but I regret not driving the extra distance to the Riverbank location. That location is very clean, workers are all friendly and the food is the best.

Extremely good food. Can’t beat the food. Employees can be rude from time to time. I always order a burrito good meat (carne asada) a little pricey but completely worth it

My friends favorite place. He loves their menudo. The lingua soft taco a must to try its really do. Been here twice with him.
Side salsa is awesome!

I got the nachos with al pastor and added refried beans. It was ok. Some of the al pastor was burnt on the edges and that lead to a bitter, burnt taste that was not enjoyable. I was really hungry and this place came as a recommendation from a person who resides here in Modesto as «the best Mexican food in the city»…um, first of all, this is not a city, it is a town. Secondly, the best? It is NOT!!! The menu is huge and a little overwhelming when you first walk in. Take a moment to look it over. You can see directly into the kitchen and everything looked on the up and up. I was looking pretty hard to observe sanitary practices and I witnessed no infractions. The place did get pretty busy once we put our lunch order in. Food arrived in a timely fashion. My spouse ordered a chicken chimichanga and was disapointed. I ended up sharing my mediocre nachos since she was hungry and unhappy with the chimichanga that resembled a fried burrito. The salsa bar was ok. Tasted fresh and they had fresh tomatoes in the pico instead of canned tomatoes. That is the only saving grace to my nachos. I will not be back to this place and I don’t recommend it. Apparently this place has eclipsed its hey day and good times.

No. No. No. Crap «Mexican» food. Jessica’s food truck is much better by leaps and bounds. Was not good. Left hungry. I had a rice milk and cinnamon horchata that was delicious though. Won’t be back.

This place has really good food and has pretty fast service. I’m not a huge fan of taquerias but this one is the best in Modesto.

First time coming here after moving to the neighborhood and was not disappointed. Had been to the Riverbank location and both experiences excellent. Highly recommend! I ordered the super burrito with red sauce and pastor, my boyfriend ordered the super burrito with carne asada, both great!

My favorite Mexican restaurant in town. I tried breakfast there for the first time today. Omg it was sooooo good. I ordered huevos rancheros. Yummmm.

I have been going here for 15 years easy. After 4 different times of horrible service I tried again tonight. It took 30 min to make tacos and the way i treated never again. Service was horrible I felt bad ordering food cause omg they were gonna have to work tonight. And ill wait for good food, but the food fell way short of most taco trucks n the area.

The food is good but the older lady who helped was super rude. I will probably not be coming back.

8:49pm on a Monday night, I check the hours of operation sign. Yep, says open til 10:00pm. I walk in, sure I’m not coming in just before closing. The beyond rubenesque cashier greets me warmly, «Hello, to go?» I plainly say, «no.» She asks me no less than twice more during my order to push hard that it should be to go. This is not the first time the not so subtle «9:00pm to go rule,» has been whole heartedly put upon me here. I finish my transaction clarifying the closing time as 10:00pm, with a flat «yes» from ruben++.
I did enjoy my burrito at the restaurant and was home by 9:40pm
I continue to come back cause it’s one of the best burritos in town. The food in general here is a bit overly salty
I wish they still offered the pico de gallo gratis on the salsa bar. It’s still available, for a small fee. That’s understandable after the price of tomatoes spiked a few years ago (although other taquerias in the area didn’t seem to make this same correction).
Overall the place has decent food, decent prices, and poor service.

I’m not even a vegetarian but I get the veggie burrito here because it’s basically a Justin Bieber song wrapped in a flour tortilla. Who doesn’t love da beebs? On a side note is like to mention that this places salsa bar is legend. they had to start keeping the cups under lock and key because people were getting a lil cray with the portions.

I’ve been going to this place for years! I’ve never been disappointed. Quality food and good service. There Pineapple drink is a must try!!!

Thought I would give the place a try, the lady that took our order acted like she didn’t even want to take our order horrible service from just her other employs where nice, asked her for some chips to go she didn’t say anything even though I said thank you and I thought that was very rude ! Now to the food the burrito was pretty good, but the regular nachos for 6 $ was the smallest serving of nachos I’ve ever gotten !

The service here is fairly good, but the food quality has been declining over the years. The last couple of times, the beans had a strange aftertaste similar to soap and the dishes we ordered were not as good as they have been. It’s too bad, we used to love this place.

The girl behind the counter tonight was rude! I asked a simple question and she gave me attitude. I work in customer service, and this is not how you treat your customers. I will not be giving them my business again!

This place is really good. I always judge Mexican food on the rice and beans and theirs are amazing. I have had the chicken fajitas, tacos, and enchiladas. The chicken is amazing i am very picky about how my meat looks. My husband loves the burritos and nachos he is a creature of habit so never really try anything else. Love love the food give it a try if your looking for something yummy

I always come here to get some Mexican food whenever I come in town to visiting from family. The place is super close to my in laws and the price is average. The food here is always tasty.

DUDE. NACHOS. Boyfriend got the super nachos. I got the regular with meat, so fucking bomb!
The girls were really nice, everyone’s saying how service sucks. When you are polite and smiling at a worker, 9 times out of 10 they’re gonna treat you just as well as you treat them. So don’t be an impolite dick! I also got the caldo de camaron, forgive my speech if that was incorrect. Shrimp soup. Lol. It was also good, not as good as the nachos, but definitely not disappointing. We’ll be back for sure

Yawwwp, best mexican food you can get in the Mo that I’ve enjoyed. Other places seem to have over salted meat and it’s just no bueno. This taqueria has everything cooked to perfection in my opinion! Their salsa choices are muy sabrosa & mm I just love stopping by here whenever I do get the check to visit my hometown. Really fast and authentic (at least for me). 5 stars for taqueria sj!
Oooo get the wheat tortilla too! (Not that it makes the burrito in any way «healthier» but idk maybe it’s just me I like the texture of anything wheat better) :)
