Great place for good attentive service, excellent food! Pizza from their state of the art pizza oven is fabulous. It’s gotten expensive but still doable.

The wife and I enjoying our dinning experience once again here at The Redwood Café. The food is always top notch and the service is impeccable. The owner always treats us like we’re family.

First time here tonight and was so excited to try it. I’ve heard good and bad comments about the food, portions, setting and depending what night you go there’s a good and a bad chef. But it didn’t matter I’ve never been here so I wanted to see and try some good food!
Tonight I went for a early v-​day dinner!
Parking was difficult because small parking lot so we had to park by the church, which wasn’t too far.
When greeted the hostess looked tired and miserable, not even a smile. When seated we got a table that was rocking back and forth and saw there was a napkin to try to hold it balanced but had to let them know again because it was rocking to much and it almost spilled our drinks. Server was awesome and great, she was super sweet, Punctual, smiling, and overall great.
Our food LOOKED AMAZING but we were so disappointed because it had NO FLAVOR and was BLAND. We ordered the SCALLOPS entrée, husband said he was just hungry that’s why he ate it but was okay. I ordered the PORK SCHNITZEL, couldn’t even eat it because there was nothing interesting about it. I’m not a picky eater and I’m willing to try whatever, but I could’ve made it better and not pay $ 100.
The waitress came by to ask how was everything and I said «ok» and she asked what I ordered and I told her. She EVEN took the words out of my mouth and said «I’m sorry, was there no flavor?»
I’m usually not a complainer and I would spend any amount to eat good food. This place is way OVER PRICED for no flavor. This was so sad and disappointing…
Bus boy was nice as well until he packed my food. When I got home to open the box he didn’t even try to put it in nicely, he just threw everything in the box (see picture, I will post for sure)…
I guess they do special menus and serve certain entrees on special occasions/​holidays so everything on Unilocal may differ to what they actual serve that special day/​night.

Delicious Italian salami pizza, nice and crispy. Yummy coconut shrimp. Server/​bartender Emily, was a doll, answering all our questions. We’ll be back and I highly recommend you give it a try. You’ll be hooked.

Went there for a birthday party last night, bartender was real slow said she’s only been bartending for six months but drinks were good. Table was ready on time. Our waiter was good but forgot our drinks a couple of times and had to remind him. I had the ribeye steak was excellent great flavor. Atmosphere was great will definitely be back.

My wife and I LOVE coming here! There Ribeye is probably the best steak I’ve had in Modesto, their pasta and Salmon are also VERY GOOD! The restaurant itself is very elegant, quiet and romantic. It’s one of our favorite date nite spots. As far as the appetizers the calamari and lamb pops are my favorite, however I don’t go to Redwood Café without ordering the lamb pops though. The first time we came here I asked the waiter which appetizer he’d recommend and he said lamb pops, I wasn’t really a fan of lamb, but after he said «how about I bring them and if you don’t like them I won’t charge you?» I decided to try them and man are they delicious!

Atmosphere is nice, food is hit and miss at best. Lunch is your best bet, dinner not so much.

Very good! Had the antipasto platter, short ribs and lamb. All delish. Probably the only negative was being witness to the managers discussion about seating someone outside early or something. Didn’t need to be done on the middle of the dining room next to our table. Otherwise, very nice wine selection. We will be back. (And asked to be seated outside)
And yes, this was our first visit.

This place is located near my neighborhood. I have never had a dish I did not like. Service is friendly, not quick– but the dish makes up for it. At times it can get noisy on Wednesday and Thursday nights.
I love coming here. Any excuse and I come here. I love their broccoli salad and their pumpkin ravioli’s.

Updating to one star because despite the restaurant responding to my review publicly, when I messaged them back with the info they never followed through.

This place hits all the marks! It has a very relaxing ambiance, is a beautifully designed property, and has phenomenal food and wait staff. The proprietor of the establishment can be seen within the restaurant greeting his guests and seeing to it that their dining experience is nothing less that stellar.
The wait staff is very attentive and competent. The hostess was very accommodating to us and our server was very attentive, genuine, and above all, very proficient with her responsibilities. She remembered us from our prior visit from over a month ago and was very kind and cordial with us.
What many of the diners may not know about this establishment is that it is a renovated ranch home set on acreage. The owner (a Bay Area native) acquired the property over twenty years ago with a vision of crafting his unique dining establishment. To see this entrepreneur’s vision thrive and to partake of some of his resultant culinary masterpieces is a diner’s must have experience of the Central Valley.
We ordered the greek pizza this time around because the last time we ordered it we loved it. The pizza did not fail to please this time either! The pizza’s full flavor is likely attributed to just the right amount of chopped green olives and the feta cheese. A masterful creation indeed!
The proprietor took the time to visit our table and ask us if we would like to try one of his signature dishes which was a clever pasta dish mixed with pizza and egg which was surprisingly good! He also suggested that we try a particular dessert which was a warm pecan muffin with butterscotch sauce and whipped cream. This dessert was simply exquisite! We discovered while paying our bill that the signature dish and dessert were very generously comped by the proprietor!
This is must visit establishment for anyone that enjoys a pleasurable dining experience in the Central Valley!

I came here a few weeks back. Service was fantastic, Everett was our server. He was funny & helpful for the hectic atmosphere he works in. I ordered the Classic Margherita pizza as the other options were quite pricey. I spent $ 14 on a pizza that was worse quality than pizza hut. It was thin, soggy, and seemed like it had already been out for quite some time. The bread and butter were phenomenal but that was about it. It was a ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ split between who enjoyed their meal and who didn’t. We did order their Brie plate and it was tasty, but not worth the $ 11 and only 4 bites you got out of it. I can’t say I will rush back to this place.
On a side note, I did hear ladies over talking in the bathroom that they knew the owner and the owner wasn’t here on this particular night and they experienced horrible service and horrible food. While I understand that things don’t go perfectly when the boss isn’t around, I would hope that a restaurant like this would have been able to manage to uphold their reputation for one evening without the guidance of the owner, people should be able to take a day off without having their reputation tarnished.

This is by far one the best restaurants in town. All of the staff always has a smile on their face and the food just makes your mouth water. Bob the owner is always there saying hello to his customers.
On Friday’s they will have some music played while you eat your meal and drink your wine,
I never feel rushed in this place and they always make you feel like family.
Amazing food and place!

I’ve came here before a couple years back and I recommended it to my friends however, I really did not enjoy my experience there last night. The service was great (that’s why I gave the 2 stars) Everret was our server.
However, I ordered a chicken noodle soup (soup of the day) and the noodles were still hard.
My friend and I both ordered a moscato and I got served about half of what she got served and we still both got charged 8 $. Horrible !
I know this isn’t their fault but the table next to us wouldn’t stop staring at us because we were laughing and having a good time. I hated it they made me feel so uncomfortable. And my friend saw a lady drying her pants (which were off) in the bathroom.
AND if you are coming with a big group… don’t. They don’t split bills so it was just horrible for a group of 9.

Came here for lunch with a party of 5 on a Tuesday. Were seated on arrival and service was friendly and attentive throughout the entire meal.
Menu is fairly broad focused on basic American style food. I had the Athena tuna sandwich on sourdough and it was very good. The soup of the day was chicken noodle and it was spectacular.
If you are traveling north or south on hwy 99 it is about 5 mins off the freeway. If you are local this place is definitely worth a stop.

I went to this place to try something new because it sounded different and reviews were good.
Walked into this place. Was very well decorated. Hard to find actual entrance. Found front desk and asked for a table for two. I’m not sure if this was the a normal thing for this place but I was told a reservation is needed even through ever table was empty at 4 pm. Then was offered a table with us needed to be off of it within 2 and a half hours which is completely ridiculous to even ask of a paying customer.
Then finally took the table for two. The server was nice but their is something about this places attitude I didn’t care for. As if they were too busy to assist us. We got our drink order in which their menu was very minimal. Then prompted to order ordered a steak each.
Was offered the special 20oz for my partner ordered it then was prompted with price which is considerate but a special should be on a menu or be told with a price. It can be offensive to say it after ordering it.
Then took some time to receive food.
Got it. My 12oz steak was cold same for my potatoes. They told us the 20oz steak took longer.
So I was extremely surprised at the food. My was cooked to what I asked. I just cannot believe that they would serve a steak cold. Maybe slightly warm to be generous.
The special steak tasted good from the piece I tasted.
But in my opinion extremely overpriced.
Overall food tasted good. Didn’t blow my socks off. Service should have been better for this entire restaurant. Sadly I will need some time before I can come back to this place. May give it another shot at a different time. Also must mention their back area for special events is very beautiful.

Wonderful and intimate atmosphere. We ate on the patio at one of the fireplaces. We asked to have ours turned down and they were very accommodating. The same applies to how we wanted the dinner prepared.
The only negative critique would be the desert. I had the crème brûlée. I love mine warm with light shell. Their shell was very thick. Since this is all subjective it is hard to complain.
What a truly enjoyable meal. Thank you, Joshua — our server, Chris and all who made our anniversary dinner spectacular!

Went here for my girlfriends birthday !
It was amazing food and great service. It was a little slow service at first but only because they will not serve you until your party is all there :) I ordered a the «blood and sand» signature drink, and it tasted like vomit to me. But our waitress was so kind and removed it from my ticket and got me an alternate drink ;)
Also, I got the GLUTEN FREE margherita pizza ! Delicious !

I had the pleasure of dining at the Redwood Café while attending a monthly meeting for a professional society. They set us up in the back room. I was very impressed with the quality of the food and the fantastic service. Typical catered meal affairs such as this feature uninspired salads followed by an entrée with some variation of over-​cooked «rubber chicken.»
Not here.
First off, I started with an exquisite pear salad, which had spinach, pears, cheese, slivered almonds, tossed in a light and refreshing dressing. I could have had it for the entrée.
For the entrée, I went with the pan-​seared salmon. Perfectly cooked with a nice outer crust and tender center, the salmon was served with green beans and a cream sauce. I eat a LOT of salmon, and this dish was wonderful.
In addition to the quality of the food, the staff as very courteous and efficient.
I would not hesitate to recommend the Redwood Café to anyone looking for dining options in Modesto.

Beautiful place with delicious food and okay staff.
The salmon & filet mignon were cooked to perfect, not to mention their brownie and ice cream.
I will however knock off a star — even though this place can accommodate lots of people (you can have a wedding here) there is a serious lack of parking. Overflow is forced to park on the gravel or at the church down the street.
