Yep, I’m that friend who is always ordering protein style burgers and sandwiches not necessarily because I’m trying to cut back on calories, but because half of the time, the buns completely overwhelms the star of the show and acts as less of a supporting actor.
When I order a burger/​sandwich, like a properly raised gentleman, I’m mostly interested in whats on the inside, rather than what’s covering the outside. Thus my reason for normally omitting the buns.
To be fair, whenever I am visiting a restaurant for the first time, I always give the buns a try to determine what category the bread falls into for next time; pass or stay.
Rockfire Grill, you won my bread discriminating heart with your soft savory flatbread! After having the pleasure of consuming my meal, I wondered, why aren’t more places using flatbread?! My feeling is that before long, more places will… if they like seeing extra $$$ flowing into their registers.
As I mentioned before, what’s on the outside matters little if what’s on the inside is repulsive, but I can happily report that we are looking at an evenly attractive and juicy burger no matter which angle you take. Great roasted veggies, unique sauces, juicy meat, and soft and savory flatbread. Fries are crispy and every table is set with 4 squeeze bottles of sauces.
I’m coming back for you Rockfire, and next time I’m going after the pizzas!

Rockfire Grill is one of those hole in the walls that you wouldn’t really come across unless you know people in the area that have had it before or came across it during your Unilocal searches when trying to satisfy your hangry pains. For us, it was the former as we visited a couple of friends in the Ladera Ranch area on a Saturday evening.
Initially, my first impressions was «ohh… it’s a burger place, nothing special, and nothing can go too drastically wrong.» And then the kicker hit me… they’re known for their burgers alright, but instead of your conventional bun you’ll get everything sandwiched in between naan bread! That’s right, you read that correctly, the same naan bread you would encounter at an Indian restaurant! It may seem a bit weird or unconventional at first, but believe me folks, once you take a bite into any of their Artisan burgers, I’m sure you’ll be sold and become a fan also.
Texas BBQ & Bacon Cheeseburger (⁵⁄₅): There’s juicy meat, there’s cheese, there’s bacon, and ohh how can you forget the crunchy onion rings that you must have in any BBQ type sandwich! Every bite I took of this burger had the same consistency and flavor as the last bite till the very end and I honestly could have easily consumed 2 – 3 of those things if I didn’t care too much of clogging up my arteries or a massive amount of calories. You’ll have your hands drenched in juices and sauce, but that’s okay… in my opinion, it’s all part of the experience and makes it a better meal. I mean, comon… when have you ever had a burger where you had your hands dry and clean at the end of it and said to yourself «that was one hell of a burger!»
Fries & Sauces (⁵⁄₅): It’s really rare to come across any restaurant that serves fries that will really completes your burger meal. Either they come out too soggy or the taste of the fries are just «meh.» I’m not sure exactly what they seasoned and covered their fries with in Rockfire Grill, but I love it and it could be something I would snack on all day if I couldn’t control my fat boy issues. Just as if that wasn’t enough, they give you huge squeeze bottles of spreads and sauces. Gotta say that my favorite hands down was the garlic aioli followed by their spicy sauce. No matter what sauce you decide to go with though, you can never go wrong!
Apparently the owner is planning on expanding his business and you’ll eventually see this delicious establishment in at least a couple of other places around Santa Ana and Newport Beach. I don’t know about you, but I’m definitely stoked for this news and can’t wait to eat more naan wrapped burgers!

Not a fancy place, no waiter service, but a great little gem of a gourmet burger restaurant.
Had my birthday party of 10 persons there recently — even though it’s a small place, the owner was very helpful and accommodating.
The burgers were terrific and the flatbread that they come in are each baked fresh when you order your burger.
Their French fries are very tasty.

Love that I found this place on Unilocal!Its in a small strip mall near the Mission Viejo Mall and Saddleback Valley College. When you walk in they have menus and a menu on the board. You order up front then they bring it to you. I ordered a burger and fries. It was brought out to me fairly quickly. I love that the burger is served on a different kind of bread than the norm burger and it is delicious. It is a good amount of meat as well. The fries are delicious as well, they have 4 different kind of sauces on each table and they let you know which is which. They have indoor and outdoor seating which is nice. They also have pizza and other things on the menu which is great I can’t wait to go back to try the pizza and other stuff. Everyone that works there is so nice and attentive. Definitely have to try it out!

Ordered the spinach kale salad & my friend had the cheddar burger both are yummy!

I know in math they say absolutes are a red flag but this place is 99.9% the best burger place in the OC. Came in here around 3:30 one day and place was surprisingly empty but that’s normal for late afternoon lunches. Upon entering I was greeted by the cashier who was very friendly and informative when I had questions about the menu. The two times I’ve been here I ordered the Texas BBQ bacon and blue cheese bacon burgers and they lived up to the hype! Burgers are freshly made on flat bread with green lettuce, red tomatoes, and an juicy beef patty. If you eat in they have three different sauces for you burger/​fries and it changes the dynamic of the burgers/​fries. The fries here I can’t really describe but they are one of the better fries I had in a long time. Overall, I enjoy this place and wish there was one closer to where I live so I can try out more items.

If it were for the hamburgers alone, I would give this place a 5-​star, without a doubt. They were beautifully presented for starters, but the bread… wow. Just wow. It was almost like a pita, but had a wonderful crispy outer crust. You need to try it simply because I have eaten me a lot of burgers in my day, and I’ve never had anything like this.
I also ordered a side of fries and a cheese pizza. The fries were slightly potatoe-​y, almost undercooked graininess to them. The pizza was decent but could have used another 30 seconds in the oven. Just a near miss on a great pizza.
As I said, if I were rating only the burger– then 5 stars all the way, but the other food did not wow me like I was expecting. Having said all that, next time I’m in Mission Viejo I WILL be back to show friends and family this great little place.

I was able to share this place with a new person and she loved it… another person that spread the word as this food is soooo good it melts in your mouth.

One of the most unique burgers ever!
Their bread is everything, I was even considering asking if they sell them by the dozen, they would make perfect rolls for just about anything.
The burgers and stuffed pizzas are amazing here, pretty much anything with their vread is a real winner.
Fries also some of the best I have ever had and I love their made in house sauces.
Service is excellent, prices and portions fair.
The space is cute, plenty of seating and easy parking.
Huge menu, such a great selection, so much more I want to try.
Food does take awhile to come out since the bread is baked to order, then your meal prepared, about 15 – 20 minutes in our case, still very much worth the wait.
I hope they expand all over, LOVED the food here!

This joint is very pleasant! Stopped in on the way back to Vegas. Great environment! Staff is friendly and helpful with suggestions. It’s a nice little restaurant, just wish it was tad bit bigger… Now on to the food!
I was very happy with what I ordered! I personally had the Wild Alaskan Salmon Burger. My friends had Roasted Pepper Angus Chipotle Burger & Roasted Veggie Pizza. To my surprise the buns were flat bread, which I really liked! :).
My salmon was really good! The chipotle burger and veggie pizza also get good reviews.
Portions are a great size! I was happily filled!
The fries are not my cup of tea, but still good.

First, the bad: like any great place, they can get busy for lunch rush. Additional parking can found around the building or you can wait until I leave. The few tables can easily fill up. Fortunately, they are quick service while everything is prepared fresh. There are additional tables on the patio and they do fine for take out.
The rest is good.
Some Burger places like to say they make their buns fresh daily. Rockfire makes your flatbread bun while they are making your burger. It can’t get fresher than that! Burgers are all cooked hard to medium so ask for medium-​rare if you like it extra juicy. Either way you will end up putting the sauce on there so you’ll be glad the flatbread folds over the burger, protecting your hand from drips.
You have many choices for style of burger. I have tried a few and have not gone wrong yet. The «pizza» looks tasty on that flat bread, and I have also heard they even have salads.
The seasoned fries are some of the best in the county and you can enjoy them with ketchup, your choice of sauce or just plain. The garlic aioli sauce is excellent and the spicy sauce is fierce. You may order more fires after you start dipping in the house made sauces. You heard the phrase awesome sauce? This is it.
Refillable Coke and teas round out the meal next to the casual Reggae type music.
Rockfire Grill has the best service. You have one of the owner couple taking your order with care. They have one guy who is dedicated to bringing out the food plus more staff on hand for cooking and cleaning. The owner is a real human and visits around to make sure everything is great.

In search of a good place to eat prior to our movie, we decided to check out Rockfire Grill. I liked the vibe from the moment I entered this small, but comfortable spot. I ordered the Pesto Chicken Hot Foccacia Sandwich ($ 7.95); I had a taste of the Bacon Cheeseburger Stuffed Flat Bread ($ 7.45). Both were uniquely delicious, attractively served on soft, fresh flatbreads! A chilled tray with a trio of flavorful sauces was delivered to our table along with our entrees; how comforting knowing that the sauces weren’t just left sitting on the tables for who-​knows-​how long! I’m so eager to return, to try one of their Artisan Burgers and Stone Baked Pizzas, and Salads… and fries!
Friendly and appreciative staff/​management. Be sure to ring the bell on your way out, letting them know they did well. Great find!

My friend and I love trying out different burger places and this was our next stop. We were in for a late dinner and the owner was actually working the register. He was really friendly and helpful with two new customers. I got the bacon cheddar cheeseburger added fries and a bottle of water. Awesome sauce! Really, they have 3 awesome sauces! It was cool that they used a flat bread instead of regular buns. That made things less drippy and messy.
Overall, while it wasn’t the best burger that I’ve eaten, it was very unique in it’s execution and good enough that I’ll definitely be making a return visit if I’m ever in the area. If you like burgers, you’ve got to give this place a try!

So this place specializes in burgers served in pita bread and it works pretty damn well. I ended up ordering the Carnitas burger on the recommendation of the cashier. It’s a beef patty with carnitas on top. The quality of the burger patty was delicious and so was the pulled pork. Great stuff.
They also have some pretty awesome side sauces too for your fries. I really liked their garlic aioli sauce.
Definitely worth checking out for a quick bite.

This place «Rocks»!
So a friend raved about Rockfire Grill and their sandwiches & salads. (not that I’m a salad guy) So I checked them out yesterday and they didn’t disappoint! They stone back their flat breads and they come right from the oven on every sandwich. It makes a difference!
LOCATION & AMBIENCE (Rating 3.75) It’s in a small strip mall with a lackluster front, but once you walk in it’s decorated very nicely with their own niche flavor. Their tight on space so they’ve made the most of it but for a sandwich /​burger shop they’ve done a great job.
SERVICE (Rating 4.75) The staff and owners seem happy, are attentive and appreciative of your business. They brought the food out hot and made sure that I had a full basket of their sauces. (This is important as the sauces are awesome). They missed the 5 star on the service only because they didn’t check back in on me.
CHICKEN PESTO (Rating 5) Baked to order with extremely fresh greens, tomatoes & a light pesto that comes in a incredible flatbread bun this thing is the bomb!
HOUSE MADE CHIPS (Rating 4.5) So they don’t have much flavor on their own and don’t have much salt. They are extremely crispy and fresh however. So I wasn’t overwhelmed with my first bite. Then I broke out the 3 sauces they provided in squirt bottles ina a basket and found out the «error of my ways». These things are meant for dippin! Make sure to try this, it’s worth the calories. Personally I couldn’t decide which sauce was my favorite. I guess I’ll need to go back. ;)

Socked away in a little strip mall in Mission Viejo, Rockfire offers bold flavors, quality ingredients, at fair prices. I chose to go with a burger because of all the raving reviews about the bovine.
The bacon burger was indeed a tasty burger especially with the sauces they bring on the side: some garlicky, some spicy Sriracha-​esque, and I didn’t try the third. The sauces went great on the fries too, which were long and textured almost like curly fries only long and straight. Sounds weird, but I didn’t leave any behind.
Back to the burger– the bun is made of thin pita type bread so you can save your carb quota for the fries. I requested the meat medium rare and it came medium, so don’t expect it to be mooing even if you like it that way. Part of the reason was that it was actually two thinner patties in the pita rather than a thick burger. Rockfire claims all Angus beef, and the taste and quality showed. Not a bad deal for under $ 7.
They offered more exotic burger flavors and I’d definitely come back for another try.

Eating here is like going over to a friend’s house for a meal. It’s casual, comfortable and you get quality food.
If the owner is there she will greet you with a smile and chat you up before taking your order at the register. This place understandably has a lot of repeat customers and she remembers them.
You can tell they use fresh ingredients here. The naan/​focaccia-​like bread they use for the pizzas and burger «buns» is made to order. Between two people we got the Bacon Cheddar Cheeseburger ($ 5.95), Carbonara pizza (all pizzas are $ 7.95) and Spicy Buffalo Wings ($ 6).
The wings were delicious! Eat them as soon as they come out. They’re piping hot and crispy. The buffalo sauce is no joke spicy but flavorful.
The burger had two juicy patties with a nice charr flavor. I liked their non-​traditional bun, it added some crunch and held everything together well. Whatever you do, make it a combo or just get a side of fries, because the fries are really good! They taste like Jack in the Box curly fries, but not frozen or curly.
Their pizza is more of a flatbread. There are a handful of specialties or you can build your own. The Carbonara had bacon and eggs. Perfect for breakfast lovers. They’ll cook the eggs any way, but I got it with a runny yolk. A little messy but worth it!
You can eat inside and enjoy your food to some reggae music or order take out. Either way, you should eat here.

When I first bookmarked this place a few months ago… I always pictured a type of bigger «Stonefire Grill» establishment. Hence the similar name but when I walked in I found a small quaint mom and pop style deli/​griller.
This place is no Stonefire Grill (not that there is anything wrong with Stonefire). We were promptly greeted by the main proprietor and her staff. The kind hostess quickly recognized that we were first timers and she immediately made a few recommendations.
I always go ahead and ask «What is the most popular dish ordered?» She literally read my mind: «Bacon cheeseburger!» Now if you are reading this you are probably thinking «bacon cheese… popular…wha?» But this berger did not disappoint. This meal includes Rockfire’s freshly cut, seasonly salted to perfection french fries all for under $ 10.
What stands out about Rockfire’s delicious version of the classic bacon cheese berger is how these craftsmen and women prepare and present this berger with their ever so crispy (genius)outer texture of the naan bread which still keeps its soft inner shell and maintains the weight of the 2 medium cooked patties, fresh veggies and oozing cheddar cheese and still has enough strength to support the sizzling strips of juicy crispy tipped bacon… And don’t you dare forget to compliment this steaming morsel of beefy portly porky goodness w/​Rockfire’s signature garlic aioli sauce which was personally placed on the table by the ever so thoughtful staff.

We meat again.

I’ve seen great reviews for this newer restaurant and have been meaning to try it for a while. I thought it may have been overhyped, but one of my fellow Elites only gave it 3 stars so I didn’t know what to expect.
Thankfully, it surpassed my expectations and I can say it’s now one of my favorite fast casual restaurants nearby my home.
We didn’t know what to order so we decided to try an appetizer and one of each main type of entrée. So we started with a Zattar & Hummus focaccia appetizer as well as a bacon cheddar cheeseburger, spicy chipotle chicken focaccia sandwich and stone baked margherita pizza.
The owner helped us make our selections from each category and she got it right. She dropped by our table to find out how we liked the food and explained how all the food is made fresh daily.
The freshness is very noticeable and adds to the flavor of the food. What we found was that all the dishes were unique and clearly differentiated itself from similar establishments, primarily with the use of flatbread buns.
They may make the best burger around, especially at its price point. The meat tastes like it was just ground before it was cooked. I don’t think I’ve ever tasted a fresher burger. Their fries are also very tasty and different from most other fries out there.
Now that I’ve found the spot, I’ll definitely be back sooner rather than later.
