I travel a lot for work so i have seen my fair share of high end steak places — simply put — the butter knife steak… Best steak i ever had! Even better the next day as my reheated lunch

We went to celebrate a birthday and it was well worth it. My mom said the Caesar salad was the best she has EVER had. Get the Silver Butter Steak for 2. Tons of flavor.

Marci a server who has been working there for 44 years and her husband is also the butcher recommended the Rib Eye and it may have been one of the best Rib Eye’s I have ever had. Five Star all the way both for the quality of the meat and for Marci the server.

I was excited to try this famous local spot but was very disappointed with the entire experience. Truth is the food was ok but service was apathetic., at best. I’m paying top dollar and I don’t want to be treated like I’m a nuisance. Too many choices, too little time. Make a note murray’s! Your only as good as your people!

So the last time I was in the cities I had to go to mannys and loved it. So I was told that Murray’s was equally as good. I would now say I agree. The steak was excellent and the price was great. Drinks are good and stiff and staff was excellent.

My husband and I decided to try Murray’s for our anniversary. It’s been around forever, so it must be good, right? Like many other reviewers have written, the theme of our meal was salt. We shared the butter knife steak, which comes with salad/soup and a side. I had the house salad and my husband had the ceasar — both were WAY over dressed. The butter knife steak was the highlight of the meal, it was cooked perfectly, but it was really salty. I ordered the mushrooms with the steak and they tasted like canned mushrooms. The worst part of our meal was our service. Our waiter never introduced himself but we heard him tell another table he was Dennis. He took our order and sliced our steak, but that was it. I hope the bus boy gets a part of the tip because he did 90% of the work. For the price, you can get a better meal with much better service at other steak houses

I’ve been to Murray’s about 10 times in 18 months. It is the vendor dinner place of choice because it is just down the street from where I work. It’s a great steak joint if all you want is steak. It is a steakhouse, after all, so I would expect that a great steak would be in order. However, that is all they have is good steak. Their sides are sub-par. I get that they put all their effort into making sure that their steak is top-notch but their sides are very bland, boring and uninspired. Their mashed potatoes lack flavor, the Mac and Cheese is more butter and shells than Mac and Cheese and the crab cakes need to have a kick of acid and more flavor added to them. The desserts aren’t great. If you can avoid them, I would suggest that. There was also a time when me and my wife were out and we got to the restaurant about 60 seconds later than our reservation. When we got up to the host check in, they had already given our table away. «Great,» I thought, «this is how tonight will go.» So, the host invited is in to the bar and said, «We’ll have a table for you in a moment.» We got a couple drinks at the bar, which was a giant pain in the ass. We get our drinks and are standing off away from some tables and server walks by, only to spill a drink on my wife. She apologies but gave us a look like we were in the wrong. Luckily, my wife loved her steak and shrimp, so all was forgiven.

Went to Murray’s on Saturday with a 9:30 reservation. Our group of 8 had 4 teenagers and 4 adults. Our waitress was awesome, wish I could remember her name. The breads that came out were delicious and nice wine selections also. The meal was everything we hoped it would be, incredible, and we(all 8 of us) loved every bite. My wife and I shared the Silver Butter knife Steak for 2 and highly recommend it! If you ever get downtown make a reservation, you won’t regret it!

What a strange experience! About 20 minutes into our dining experience, we were informed by another server Marcia our waiter TJ «took some pills someone gave him and was having a terrible allergic reaction.» There was no mention of TJ the rest of the night so I hope he’s okay. We went during restaurant week and I decided to veer off the special menu and got peppercorn filet. The filet with without peppercorn upon arrival where it was whisked back so Marica could«put some peppers on it.» My steak was amazing although my boyfriend’s medallions(part of the restaurant week menu) were less than amazing. Don’t think we need to go here again. If Murray’s management is reading this, give my best to TJ!

I ate from the bar menu — the truffle fries are so delicious and perfect for sharing. I can’t wait to eat the steak burger again. Even the seasonal vegetables were good.

Had a small filet, 6 oz. Sunday night, there were maybe 2 tables full. It was strange. The problem is that medium plus means cook the steak between medium and medium well. The steak was bloody rare. Not even close to being medium, let alone medium plus. If you like your steak done medium plus(slightly pink center) order it WELLDONE. Maybe they’ll cook it right

Murray’s is my favorite steakhouse downtown! Not only is the food amazing,(try the ribeye cooked medium with a side of mushrooms), but the staff is wonderful as well! If you don’t feel like getting dressed to the max and spending a lot of money, the bar has happy hour Monday-Friday and has a laid back vibe in comparison to the dinning area. It is the best happy hour menu for it’s pricing in downtown Minneapolis. I highly recommend going there!

Dissapointed I made a reservation through OpenTable. I made a special request for a birthday celebration. I called the restaurant ahead of time to ask if there’ll be a small cake for the birthday guy. I was going to bring a cake, but I was assured by the manager they’ll serve a small complementary birthday cake. When we arrived, I reminded the manager again about the cake. When no cake was served at the end of our meals, I told the waiter. I waa shocked when the waiter asked the birthday guy if he wants a birthday cake. A very poor service for a high-scale restaurant. Not going again.

A decent spot for a drink if you are in downtown Minneapolis, but I wouldn’t return. I had a few drinks & some appetizers at the bar. Everything was ok, but the drinks are just overpriced. An almost $ 60 bill before tip for 3 mixed drinks, fries, & chicken wings is too much. I’ve paid better prices in NYC& San Francisco.

Great food, service, and nice atmosphere. Three stars only because I’ve eaten at a lot of really fantastic steak places in the world, and this one is a Minnesota gem for sure. My second visit and first butter knife steak experience. Really excellent steak. The garlic toast and au gratin potatoes(much better than the mashed) — amazing as well.

My wife and I ate here when we were in town and we loved it. Not only was my steak perfectly cooked and tender, it was flavorful. I have eaten at some of the best steakhouses in America and this one is right up near the top AND not near as expensive as some of the others. Service was friendly and always on top of everything.

My first day in Minneapolis and I was there too soon to check into my hotel room. The front desk sent me to the Macy’s down the road. I worked up a hunger and went in search of a place to eat. Unilocal directed me here, and not too soon! They close at 2:30 to prep for dinner, and I walked in at 2:10. I felt a little bad walking in so close to the cut-off time, but not one time did I feel as though I was being rushed. The staff were friendly and accommodating. My waiter was an adorable guy named D’Anthony. Funny, charming, adorable, helpful and downright adoptable! I swear I wanted to take him home with me as my Minneapolis souvenir! I ordered the lunch steak, which came with a side of a gratin. The steak was cooked to a PERFECT medium. The au gratin was extremely hot, but so tasty it was worth burning my mouth a few times. Seriously, I shoveled it in there! When I arrived, I checked in on Unilocal, claimed my free dessert, and then never got to eat it. The steak and au gratin were very filling. You might look at it and think, «This isn’t going to be enough,» and you’ll be wrong. I wanted desperately to try the butterscotch crème brûlée, but I will have to go back before I head home and give that a try with a glass of Moscato.(I learned they recently switched to a new Moscato, and I’m told it’s a fuller flavor than the previous Moscato.) If you have a chance to eat here, do it. Ask to sit in D’Anthony’s section, and tell him Jen from Buffalo says hi & wants to know if he wrestled away that recipe yet.(That’s an inside joke, my friends!)

Wow what could one say? I grew up listening to Sid Hartman talk about the famous Silver Butterknife Steak. My 8 year old son flew there for a Vikings game. Could not have been more pleased with the quality of the steak. Don’t waste your money at Ruth’s, Mortons, Capital Grille. Murrays is an institution that has kept up with creativity and quality in the menu also. But bottom line that steak was amazing. Also had the pleasure of running into and talking to Tim Murray. Miss MN and glad I finally had the Butterknife steak. Thank you Murrays for making a life long memories.

Picture this: It’s 1946, a cold Minnesota winter storm is brewing, and an outsider has come to town. Not for a moment does the ominous weather phase this Windy City native on his special business trip. Times have been getting tough with the Fed’s special Mafia task forces interfering with the racket at every turn, and this guy is hungry for a good meal! So where does this«business man» go for a good meal? Murray’s! With what many believe to be a former hotspot for the mafia visiting Minneapolis from Chicago, Murray’s is an iconic Minneapolis hot spot! When it comes to change over the years, a cleanup from the clientele may have occurred, but there definitely hasn’t been any let up to the quality of food and service!!! Murray’s specializes in steak, with its two signature steaks being the«Silver Butter Knife» and the«Chateaubriand» that each comfortably serve portions for two. Of all the steak places of the Twin Cities, Murray’s in my opinion is the best! When ordering, you can get any steak off the menus, and you will REALLY enjoy it, but go with a Murray’s Signature and you will absolutely love it!

This place was a typical classy steakhouse. The service was solid. The food came out very quickly. They start the table off with a basket of pretzels, pumpernickel bread, and some type of toast. The toast seems to be of the garlic variety. It was great. It had a great crisp to it. The pretzel was light on the salt and very tasty. I ordered the Caesar salad($ 5) as an appetizer and also tried the escargot. The salad was overdressed, but it was solid and of good portion size. The escargot was just alright. There was no sand or fishy taste to it, but I just found it a little plain. There did not seem to be enough butter and garlic sauce. For an entrée, I ordered the peppercorn strip sirloin($ 50). It was a 14 oz. center cut with a Dijon brandy peppercorn crust served over a garlic jam. It was cooked to a perfect medium rare. The seasoning was a little overwhelming with the peppercorn crust, but that was my only complaint of the dish. This was what one expects when dining at a fine steakhouse. Will I go back? No doubt.

Bacon wrapped filet with blue cheese was out of this world. Service was exceptional including the wine selection that was by far top notch. Side dishes the potatoes au gratin along with the mushrooms and asparagus were excellent. I will definitely bring customers back here again. It is by far one of the best steak restaurants in the Twin Cities area.

Standard traditional American fare, flawless service. My salmon was just how I liked it — slightly crispy seared on the outside and cooked through while not over-cooked on the inside. This was served over a bed of baby spinach with strawberry and mandarin orange pieces. Not bad for a hefty portion at a lunch price of $ 14!

I am not a steakhouse type of person, but have come to Murray’s on business travel several times since clients enjoy the service and setting. I AM a carb addict, and I have to thank my lucky stars that I don’t come here too often, else I would be even fatter than I already am. I inhaled: 1) garlic butter toast(crispy garlic butter is the best way to describe it) 2) Mac and cheese(peppery, creamy, smooth deliciousness OMG) 3) butter cake with chocolate frosting(think yellow birthday cake, but with twice as much butter) 4) hash brown side in a skillet(crispy and amazing) 5) steak fries dipped in my colleague’s bearnnaise sauce They overcooked one of my friend’s steak, but corrected it. Everyone else in the party loved the wine, their steaks, root beer floats, etc. I enjoy dinners here, but always hate myself afterwards.

for being a virgin at a new restaurant I wasn’t too impress overall. From Décor, Food, to service, it all pretty much sucked! Compared to other high end steakhouse’s in the area such as Manny’s and Ruth Chris, Murray’s is not anywhere near their level of service and food quality. Execution on steak was very poor. Seemed like they just hired Ol Bob to throw some meats on the grill and call it a day. FOODWASWAYOVERPRICE for quality and for lack of a better term, OVERLYSEASONED! There were 7 couples that my wife and I had dined with and EVERYONE’S steak to sides were more than a tad bit on the SALTY side. We would’ve imagined that our waiter«Dennis» would’ve been more informative of this but he wasn’t and made no suggestions what so ever or to even give an option as to what the specials were for Valentine’s day dinner or to how there food was seasoned. Heck if anyone of us had high blood pressure or were a diabetic we would’ve been rushed to the HCMC after one bite!!! It almost looked like he didn’t even want to be there. To keep it short, of you’re looking for a top rated steakhouse, this isn’t the place. There are plenty of other steakhouse’s in the area that will give you A+ 5 star dining service. Especially when each of the 7 couples spent over $ 200 on each tab. I would’ve expected a lot more.

My coworkers and I have been hitting up Murray’s for their too-good-to-be-true happy hour for the last year and a half. The place is adorably old-school with incredibly polite and intuitive servers and a vast array of wines and dishes that are priced perfectly for happy hour(which is from 4 – 7 on Monday through Friday). My go-to is a glass of the Malbec, as well as the truffle fries and the garlic toast. Yummy! Most recently, I was impressed last week when I dined here before a concert at First Avenue with a good friend. As we were getting ready to leave, we realized we had forgotten to print our concert tickets. So we embarrassingly asked the manager if he could maybe pretty please print these for us? And he did so happily. We were so thrilled. He saved the day! Again, I am always impressed here by the service, the food and the vibe.

First time here, but probably not the last. I guess I was expecting more of a Supper Club feel with big red booths and a Goodfellas vibe, but maybe I have been watchin’ too many movies. I wasn’t aware of the remodel. Food Ordered: Pastrami Sandwich Two Steak Sandwiches Sirloin Platter Clam Chowder(some of the best I’ve had) & Half Roast Beef Sandwich. Everyone appeared to enjoy their meals. I loved the chowder. The roast beef however was a bit rare for me, and I like my meat medium rare/rare. This one was just super rare with that rare taste. It was okay. Service was first rate. Pretzels were a big hit. I would like to try the rib eye as that is my favorite cut. Nice variety of lunch choices and good ones.

My coworkers and I popped into Murray’s for a late dinner this week and sat at the bar for the first time. As a local who has been to Murray’s several times before, I feel they’ve updated their interior and spruced up the atmosphere from what I remember it being. Our bartender, Isaac, delivered top notch service, remembering all of our names, being extremely attentive with refills, and making sure we were well cared for. The butter knife steaks for two that we shared were outstanding and perfectly flavored and prepared. My coworkers tried some shrimp and truffle fries appetizers and really enjoyed them as well. My Caesar salad that came with the steak was just right! I’d recommend Murray’s for anyone looking for a fantastic steak and overall warm, welcoming experience!
