Most expensive fish fry I have ever been to, and Worst tasting fish fry ever. Ridiculous amount of breading on fish. Breading not cooked all the way thru. Gooey in the middle. Somehow the fish was cooked. Just gross. The rest of the meal was mediocre at best. Although; They can make a heck of a drink in the bar. Gotta hand it to the bartenders. The bar is fun and tasty.

I finally made it to Crooners to have supper after a full day at work. The ambience is warm and inviting, cozy, we could hear the music from the bar area in the restaurant, but it was in competition then with the music that was playing in the background in the restaurant, a little distracting. I had the Risotto with chicken, tiramisu for dessert and coffee. The meal was great, would recommend both options, service was casual and allowed for time for visiting. The risotto was a large enough portion that I was able to take part of it home. I will be back to try other options, maybe enjoy some of the music in the bar area.

I’m so glad I finally made it out to Crooners for an evening of delightful cocktails and top notch jazz/pop standards(Arne Fogel appearing with the Wolverines Trio). We spent the evening in the lounge, with a great view of the stage, in the midst of a lively and appreciative crowd. We had an attentive waitress who brought us a steady stream of appetizers, drinks, and dinner. Definitely try the bruschetta, especially if you love avocado — what a wonderful, fresh combination of flavors! We’ll definitely be back. The food and cocktails were great, and the place is a hoot.

I went to Crooners with high hopes. The premise sounds so good, a supper club with music to be enjoyed after dinner. Good music. Unfortunately, things did not go well. First, they were out of the wine i wanted. Kendall jackson chardonnay, a staple on wine lists everywhere. After explaining this, and leaving me to peruse the list again, i was left for yet another ten minutes. I drank scotch. It took 35 minutes from the time i ordered the wine until the time i finally got a drink, which was delivered by the bartender. Our waitress was obviously either inexperienced or overwhelmed, or both. Our service was abysmal. The food finally arrived, delivered by someone other than our waitress, with just a hint of warmth in it. The au gratins, which should be burninghot, were luke warm. The pork chop and steak were pretty much room temperature. I was so disappointed because i had never been there and had requested to go for my birthday. I had envisioned having a nice meal followed by some music. The nice meal definitely did not happen. After dinner, we went to the packed lounge. The music was adequate, if uninspiring. Until the hip hop guy appeared. Do we all have to be cool and pretend to enjoy rap? Give me some jazz, or nice christmas music. Anyway, there are better people coming to crooners to play, but i will not be there to see them. My boyfriend refuses to go back. I would go for the music, but he absolutely refuses.

Came here on a Sunday night in December to hear my friend Andrew Walesch play a Christmas concert. Absolutely lovely in the new back room and the food was fantastic. Great service, wonderful wine selection and the music was out of this world! A fun little find in the northern suburbs!

Positive things happening at Crooners. Ate/drank happy hour and appetizers great especially walleye cakes. New chef has tweaked the menu and it shows because the lounge was packed and also dining room was busier than has been. Soon to be added is piano dinner special and they have outfitted the dining room with a busendorf piano and stage.

When they first opened the food was amazing. Like many other reviews my thoughts on the place changed the second time I ordered the walleye. Poor taste, poor texture, microwaved green beans and reheated rice. It’s Restaurant 101, when someone doesn’t eat their food you ask them if they would like something else first. I think that it is poor management/training when I had to bring the quality of the meal to the attention of the manager myself. The bartender offered me a to go box for a meal which only had a few bites out of it. What really offended me was that after explaining this to the manager he comped my meal 50% and acted like he just gave me one of his kidneys. I don’t want half off a meal I won’t eat, I wanted the full meal price towards a different meal. I won’t be back for a long time.

My husband and I have been to Crooners 4 times this summer and fall. We had mixed experiences. The appetizers we tried were unimaginative and mediocre. Chicken wings were undercooked, I can make better deviled eggs at home, etc. The manhattans and Cosmopolitans, both ordered off their specialty drink menu, were great. Best Cosmo I ever had. Whether you have ordered drinks in the bar area or in the dining room, every time we were there, there was a very long wait for those drinks. Prime rib was good(mashed potatoes and green beans that accompanied it were perfect), roast chicken is Very Good. However, the delicately flavored, pale bread pudding that is part of the roast chicken dish was missing on our last visit. Instead there was a very salty stuffing that looked and tasted like the boxed stuffing you buy at the grocery store. Very disappointing. On one visit, our party had finished our meal(in the dining room). Plates had been cleared and our server, instead of checking to see if we wanted coffee or dessert, was standing at the end of the room chatting with 2 other servers for 15 minutes while we tried to get her attention. We would really like to see this place succeed. The music and décor make for a very nice ambiance.

Another good meal at Crooners! It treated my wife to lunch today. It was her first visit. It was my third. Again, the food the the service were both fantastic. For apps we had fried calamari and tomato basil soup. For lunch we had the salmon strawberry salad and beef stroganoff. The food was great. We sat in the dining room, facing south, looking over Moore Lake and all of the trees changing color. It was beautiful. Crooners is in a weird location because the main entrance(facing north) looks out on a beat-up giant asphalt parking lot and the back of a Salvation Army – total ghetto! Of course, these guys can’t do anything about where their building is located. Get a table facing the lake, you won’t regret it! –Daddy Maxx Retro

This is set up as a 50’s supper club. Everything is a la cart. I had the Beef Wellington. Green Beans. It is a deconstructed. Wellington, meaning that the biscuit is on the side. All the parts were very good. However I would have liked to have more biscuit. I tried to eat a little of each and ran out of biscuit. It is hard to find beef W anymore. My wife had the Boomtown crab and liked it. On another visit we had the Parmesan crusted walleye. It is very good. Looks about the same as the Shorewood that it replaces but it does seem warmer in the winter when than before. Apple tart with crème Anglaise is very good. Waiter was Johnny very nice

Great atmosphere and jazz. Went with my husband and a friend for Sunday brunch. Food was well prepared. Asked for extra veggies in my omelet and they happily complied. My husbands Eggs Benedict came originally with the eggs too hard. They replaced it quickly and to his point, It was PERFECTION. And then they took the charge off the bill. Classy! Service was brisk and friendly. The location had been many things over the past years and we were skeptical of this new iteration. We regret taking so long to check it out. We will be back for dinner and jazz with friends. No cover. Almost unheard of. We will try the outdoor patio and watch the leaves change this fall. Then back to brunch again for the Jazz. The space is fresh, open and comfortable. Such a great addition to the northern burbs that is the domain of tiresome chain restaurants! How pleasant! It’s a Sublime addition to our neighborhood.

Sorry guys. After the past few visits the food has been sub-par. The Walleye has not been good. And tonight, on my wife’s 45th b-day, the shrimp was overcooked, and rubbery. Come on. Don’t make me look bad. I vouch for you, and then you give me this!?! Is there a B-squad on weeknights? WTF. I even asked the waitress before I ordered my Walleye telling her my first time was mouth-watering, and the second time sucked. So I wanted to make sure someone was someone focused on this. She had no clue. So I asked to speak with the chef before ordering. And 5 minutes later, no chef, and just the waitress saying it would be OK. And it was gross. But the music entertainment was good. And my wife and I danced. Work on CONSISTENCY! And we MIGHT be back.

Once again = HAPPYCUSTOMER And ~ I have a whole group of co– workers happy to agree also. We held a retirement party on Wednesday June 24th. The management was Very Helpful and kind to work with. We picked this location because it was very central for many of the guest and my previous experience here. They gave us a very special area to sprawl out our fun night and the atmosphere was perfect. Lots of light and widows. Close to the New deck overlooking the lake was nice also. A few of us went in for the specialty Cosmo. .ummm…what I remember after that was we did not want the night to end. The group decided to take advantage of the happy hour special as we retired our friend from her nursing career. Crooners set up a special table for us with all the linens and fantastic, fast, fun service. All the girls of the wait staff were SooOooooOOO Nice to work with. Then came the food…》》》 I knew this place had amazing appetizers and now my friends at work know this true be true also. We pretty much tried one of everything… and doubles of things like; Mac&Cheese, Sliders, Ginger-Chicken… There was not one leftover! Everyone agreed the prices were very reasonable even when happy hour ended and the apps went back to regular price. The swing JAZZY crooners on the stage wowed us with their sultry songs… We even got out on the dance floor… Then we picked up our fedoras and swaggered out the door.

After being to Crooners(the music/bar side) just once, I know it’s my new favorite place. The service is excellent(our waitress was SO fun, sweet and patient with my dads); the beautiful space is wide open, airy and spotless(doesn’t smell at all like a bar); and what tops the list: THEJAZZ. We saw Judi Vinar and the Wolverines, and they were fabulous!!! Hope to see them play there again soon, and look forward to checking out other acts, too. Live music every night. That’s just dreamy. Can’t wait to go back!

Great atmosphere for a night of relaxation and a trip back in time when things were a little simpler. The food was fantastic. We started the night in the bar with a Dirty Dean Martini accompanied by blue cheese stuffed olives. They had a small, but good selection of beers. We were happy to see a few good options of locally brewed beers. After drinks we headed into the dining room with a great view of Moore Lake. We were greeted by our sever, Chris, who was a perfect addition to the night. The smörgåsbord began with an order of their relish tray, french onion soup, and bread basket. The relish tray was nothing to write home about, but great if you want to start with something a bit healthier. The bread basket was only $ 3 and worth the price with the three different choices of carbohydrates. Now, here we need to pause for the french onion soup… It was a work of delicious double broth art. The broth was full of flavor and had just the right amount of caramelized onions. The bread held up just enough to add another texture to the mouth. And the cheese, oh the cheese. When you have to continue to keep pulling the ooey gooey cheese off your spoon so you don’t have a large string hanging off your chin, you know it’s the good stuff. The main course was an event of its own with prime rib with rosemary au jus, green beans and mashed potatoes. The prime rib was cooked to a perfect medium rare and was cut with a butter knife. The au jus had so much flavor that there would have been no need to season the meat. The mashed potatoes and beans were flavored enough for you wanting to come back for more. No bland presence there. The walleye dish with a lemon caper sauce was fresh, yet wouldn’t leave you feeling hungry. We did agree that the side of pilaf was a bit of a bore. Last, but not least, we forked our way into the 3-cheese au gratin potatoes. At first glance it looks like a thick golden slice of lasagna. It was a golden slice of happiness. Layers of potatoes, cheese, cream and seasoning called you to come back for more, even when your stomach was screaming no. We ended the night back in the bar with a trip back in time with the live jazz band in full swing. Swinging and swaying couples took it to the dance floor to relive days of the past. If you happen upon Fridley I would start singing a tune and head on over to Crooners.

The parents are in town for a long weekend, they have been driving all day, we wanted to go to Red Cow for dinner but knew we would have to wait forever. What is close by and maybe a little bit classy? Unilocal to the rescue! We live close to Crooner’s and I drive past it twice a day, but I never would have chosen to go there just based off physical exterior. It’s just sort of blah. However, Unilocal reviews were good and the menu seemed legit, so why not. We got there around 7 and were seated right away(we made reservations but didn’t seem to need them) in the main dining area. It had a nice view overlooking the lake. It took a little longer than usual for the waiter to make his way to the table but that was fine since we were catching up. Honestly, what probably irritated me the most is that we had to ask for water even though all of us ordered a cocktail and we didn’t even get the waters until well after our appetizers were served. For starters, I ordered the french onion soup(I’m a sucker for it!) even though it was warm outside. SO good. My Mom and husband order the house salad and my Dad ordered the Caesar salad. I had a few bites of the house salad and it was delicious. It was three types of greens, walnuts, cranberries, feta, and a white balsamic vinaigrette. SOGOOD. Seriously. For dinner, we each ordered something different. I got the sirloin steak with mushrooms and tomato salsa. The steak and the mushrooms were good but the salsa was weird and didn’t fit with the rest of the dish. Also, I ordered it medium rare and it was definitely more medium/medium well since there was almost no pink the middle. My Mom got the walleye and loved it. It was a huge portion and the capers that accompanied the fish were delicious. The husband got the prime rib, which looked delicious and he clearly enjoyed since he ate the whole thing. My Dad got a roasted chicken dishwhich he also enjoyed. The waiter described his dish as a «classed up» thanksgiving dinner and that seemed pretty accurate. On the way out, the jazz music in the lounge was REALLY loud and we were glad that we didn’t sit in that area for dinner. The Happy Hour menu at Crooners seems pretty great, so that will definitely be our next appearance at Crooners.

This places exterior is very un-expecting, but is by far the one of the best restaurants in this area.(But then, again there isn’t too much competition) My mother and I had the prime rib and the baby back ribs. Yes, yes we are two ladies that can definitely eat. The food was memorable, so that says a lot. We had a fantastic server, prompt and not over-bearing. This place is huge; you would never expect it and very well decorated, in a supper club kinda way — but I guess that’s what they are going for. I highly suggest management making more of an attempt to make the outside more inviting… that is partially the reason why for so long(as with other reviews on here) I just drove past the place… as I complained to my husband in the car on our way home from work that there’s no good food in the suburbs. Glad to have stubbled upon this neighborhood gem. I definitely will come again.

I will NEVER step for into this establishment again I brought my mother out for a early dinner. Our service was horrible The am behind the bar we had to actually ask him«why such a bad day» his response was«well how SHOULD I be acting»? It got worse from there. after closing out with him to move to the other side to get some relief and hear some music. We run Into a man known as the«owner» that offers to replace the drinks we left with the a****** that we needed to leave from before walking out of the door. AFTER he tries to do a bit of OVERBOARD weird flirting he says we are 2 native women and native women DRINK so that is why our service was bad. He then goes onto say don’t leave because he’s been looking for a medicine man for a long time, a «real» one. I couldn’t take anymore of this nonsense and held in my anger and sickness and walked out. My mother speechless. I will NEVER send my worse enemy to a horrible place ever.

So glad to have a good, new restaurant in this location. This is our second time here and the Parmesan Crusted Walleye is already my «usual». I love walleye but this one goes beyond the norm. Service could not be better and we like the pretty location. First time my husband had Filet mignon Wellington, something he loves and has it seem in quite some time. It is the chef’s «deconstructed» version which he felt could have had more of the pastry but it was enjoyable. Rustic Apple tart was very good and something outside the usual. Menu in general is fairly typical of a supper club but with an updated approach. Try it, you’ll like it!
