Usually order takeout here. Always amazing. They have such a wide selection of food. From salads to pizza and pasta. Spaghetti and meatballs is so on point. Sauce is great and if you love extra sauce like me and request it, they will definitely accommodate.

This is a GREAT Italian place with very tasty food! My girlfriend and I came on a Saturday evening about 8pm and there was no one but us to serve — nice and quiet. We told them we had a Groupon($ 40 for $ 22 for a dinner for two) and it was our first time visiting, and we were promptly seated with menus. We each had a glass of Woodbridge White Zinfandel. I had the tortellini in pink sauce and she had an eggplant panini. The place took a moment for me to warm up to, but once I did the décor and atmosphere were welcoming and our meals were exceptional. My girlfriend really likes her eggplant dishes and she said this was the best dish she’s ever had; my pasta dish was also fantastic and I consider myself quite a critic about pasta dishes. The pasta came with bread that I had to ask for once the meal came, but it was worth it to go along with the sauce in the dish.(Only negative was the staff were clearly on their cell phones back behind the counter a couple times we needed something, but our waiter promptly came over when flagged.) Street parking — we actually got a free spot at the time literally right out front, so can’t ask for any better in my mind. We finished our meal with a cannoli to hit the $ 40 Groupon and gladly paid the bill — amazing deal and definitely looking forward to coming again!

Love this place, a great find for the locals and those working in the hospital. The owner is super caring and even helped us bring our food to the car. The broccoli rabe is amazing, a must try and so is the classic margarita slices! Also good are the canolis they get from a small bakery in the boroughs!

Between what I found in my soup and management– I’m not sure which was worse. My coworkers and I ordered soup from Plum Tomatoes of Mineola, and this would be our third time ordering from this restaurant. I ordered Tortellini with Spinach and Meatballs. I was very much excited to try this soup, but when I removed the lid, the excitement quickly ceased. There they were, floating about. Floating in the broth were two fruit flies. I didn’t want to think I was seeing things, so I turned to my coworkers to see if we were looking at the same thing. I took a moment trying to reason with myself because I was really hungry. I kept telling myself they were pepper flakes, but I knew pepper flakes didn’t have wings or legs. I read the section for soups before ordering, and my soup was suppose to have tortellini pasta, spinach and meatballs, but no where in the description did it say fruit flies. I called the restaurant. I spoke with the receptionist, and he asked that we send him a picture of the flies for proof. After doing so, I called the restaurant back to confirm if they’d received it, but receptionist placed me on a brief hold, leaving me with holding music. The music stopped, and then I heard the slam on the receiver. I tried calling them back, but the line rang out, so my coworker who ordered soup as well-called. When we realized that they were ignoring the calls from our office, she decided to step away and call them from her personal number. They argued with her and said«We discussed this with the guys in the back, and we know it’s just pepper. We don’t serve flies in our food.» Perhaps the pictures weren’t enough, because sent over the delivery guy to our office, and when he arrived, I greeted him with the bowl of «casualties». I gave him the bowl and watched him paddle the flies through the broth, using the spoon. He cringed, and so did I, for we cringed together. He said«So you all want your refund right? I’ll be right back, I have to make a quick phone call»…but never returned. Two hours later, we called the restaurant to check the status of our request, but staff kept giving us a hard time. After requesting the managers name, and asking to speak with him, the receptionist placed us on a brief hold, shortly returning and said«Bob is making pies right now.» When we finally got Bob on the phone, Bob said he was aware of the photos, and told us that his restaurant does not carry any assortment of flies, and that perhaps we’ve mistaken them for PEPPERFLAKES. Bob informed us that that we had one of two choices: 1. Store credit 2. Freshly made soup would be delivered to us. FRESHLYMADE??? What did you serve us before? We declined both offers, implying a refund. My coworker informed them that we were now skeptical of eating from there, and that it would be foolish to order again. The manager assured us that it would not happen again, but we assured him that we would no longer order from them. After going back and forth, he informed my coworker that he would only refund HALF the amount we spent. We realized we weren’t getting anywhere, so we accepted this, and decided that the other amount owed to us, would be paid in full by our review. I usually do not give reviews, but I felt the need to share this with you all in case you decided to order from this restaurant. I am not saying that their food is terrible, but I will say I did not agree what I came across in my plate, and how management approached the situation. We are extremely displeased with their service, especially with management. Not only was the manager apathetic, but he never apologized and kept trying to justify his reason for not giving us our refund. We have decided to no longer order from the restaurant I ask that anyone that decided to order from this restaurant, to please be mindful.

Horrible service and they would not let me use a valid coupon. Pizza was bland too. How is this place still in business?

I’m seeing a lot of one-star reviews, mainly focused on the(lack of) service. …the owner/s clearly need to get their shit together. Came over here for a lunch while on a business trip. Was excited because a lot of the Italian food looked good. Asked what seemed like a teenage employee what various things were, and what he told me were not what people were ordering despite being the exact same thing. He evidently came from the school of «if you don’t know, make something up.» Ordered a buffalo chicken wrap for lunch. At nine bucks, it was pretty expensive. «That must mean it’s the best buffalo chicken wrap in the world,» I thought, naively. So I waited. And waited. And waited. Should a buffalo chicken wrap really take twenty minutes to deliver? I only have a 45 minute window and I also have to get someone else’s lunch too. After seeing people coming in after me getting their lunch before me, I pointed at an imaginary watch(who wears watches in 2016?) and ask for my buffalo chicken wrap. A few minutes later, I finally had a foil-covered torpedo handed to me, so I left. Get back to the workplace. It was a chicken caesar wrap. It took over twenty minutes and nine dollars to give me the wrong order. Never again, Plum Tomatoes. You deserve your mediocre rating. From now on, I’ll think of you as Glum Tomatoes.

This place is HORRENDOUS!!! I was on my way to the city decided to stop in for a slice of pizza. I ordered their 2 slice special and there isn’t anything special about it!!! The pizza was flimsy and unappetizing it cost 5 dollars and 50 cent i can get that same special for 3 dollars in the city and for better quality pizza. The service is terrible i had to wait for 15 mins while the girl behind the counter fumbled and bumbled around trying to take care of everyone while her manger i presume yelled for her to pick up the phone while there are paying costumers to order. The drink was way to small and lasted me about 2 mins if that. If your in the area and you want pizza NEVERGOTOTHISPLACE.

Excellent service! They catered a small business lunch I held and the good and service was great. They didn’t try to sell me more food than we needed and were very accommodating on the phone. Great tasting and great service!

The pizza was decent nothing special but since I got delivery I think the quality may have been bad. I feel like if I got it Right out of the oven at a sit down it may have been better! Delivery was fast enough!

Ordered dinner through GrubHub. Took and hour and a half to get to my place and I live less than three miles from the restaurant(order placed at 730pm and arrived at 9pm). I had the pasta carbonara. It was just overcooked spaghetti in chicken stock with a small amount of pancetta and a light sprinkling of cheese. It was underseasoned and watery. I got a slice of the black and white mousse cake. It arrived frozen and the portion was extremely small. Definitely not going to order from here again.

Food is decent, But the service is HORRIBlE. Ordered food from them at 8:15 pm, Still not delivered right now at 10:23 pm. This is the worst service I’ve ever had. Called 3 times(once at 60 minutes, once at 90 minutes, once at 2 hours), Every time no explanation & the«food is on the way»

How about the good news first? I’ve frequented this restaurant several times prior to this week. Whenever in the area, I use to order lunches for my friends at Winthrop University Hospital and we always enjoyed the food and the service. Being that my family is in the restaurant business. When traveling we always look for family owned restaurants with genuine food and service, as opposed to chain restaurants… When ordering lunch for Winthrop, I decided to buy a gift certificate for my wife for her birthday. I thought we eventually be in the area with the kids and enjoy some home cooked food and hospitality. Consistency is extremely important and I felt confident that my wife would love this place… Finally, my wife and I had a chance to get out without the kids. We decided since we were in the area we’d enjoy each others company over some good food and use the«Plum Tomatoes» gift certificate that I had previously purchased. We enjoyed out lunch. When presenting the gift certificate we were informed that they recently changed their Point of Sales System and had no record of our certificate. After degrading their apparently new waiter and applying the gift certificate to the wrong bill we were offered 50% of our gift card value… We felt uncomfortable for the waiter and disrespected while waiting for one of owners to fumble around and stall, as I informed him were now running late for our meeting. One of the owners«Bob» offered me his card and assured me he would resolve the matter, To get my wife out of there and avoid being even later, I took Bob on his word and thru some cash at him before running out to our meeting. I sent Bob a Text but I have yet to be acknowledged. It doesn’t take much to do the right thing for your customers, I’m extremely disappointed that I paid $ 80 for a $ 42 lunch and was disrespected in the process.

Updated 9÷21÷15: In all honesty, the food is delicious. The gentleman behind the counter immediately greet you, and the ambience is very welcoming and quite a decent size restaurant section! Definitely a great spot if you are by the hospital or train in Mineola. In addition, the management really cares about the customer’s opinion. I had a bad experience with a waitress there, but he management contacted me immediately to apologize. You don’t see that every day nowadays. I have ordered from Plum Tomato before as take out and my family always raves about the food. I look forward to visiting in person again. Keep up the delicious work! Previous review 08⁄2015: Food is good, but the service SUCKED. Correction: the service of the waitress, nor in being greeted by the pizzeria section – they were very welcoming. The waitress was giving us attitude, handed us the check without asking or checking if we wanted anything else, and speeding us up because she has lots of people to serve. How is that my problem? If that’s her concern, then she shouldn’t be a waitress. The food gets 4 stars. The service should really get 0.

Came back recently since absolutely no arguments against the location to the Mineola LIRR stop. I also like Italian food. Had the chicken parm & a cannoli. The cannoli is truly awesome, considering it had chocolate chips in the crème. As I’m a chocolate fiend, that was a huge plus. I still think this would be a nice place to take someone for dinner. The chicken parm actually tasted better to me when I saved my lunch & had it reheated later on to finish it for dinner. Definitely will come back when I have time to kill between trains. Plus, the owner Bob is a nice guy.

I really enjoy the specialty pizza here. They make the best buffalo chicken slice that I have ever had. I can’t same much beyond that because its all I ever get there. They are on the pricey side.

This was my first trip to Plum Tomatoes and I definitely look forward to my next visits there. We were immediately greeted by Bob(the owner) and his son Bryan. Happy, friendly and extremely personable. There was a fantastic display of pizzas, and clearly I must sample all of them. The shop — Plum Tomatoes is a pizzeria with a spacious dining area that could easily accommodate a large group. There is a nice bar at the back of the restaurant where you could easily make yourself comforatble and enjoy some wine. We started dinner with a Mozzarella Primavera that consisted of fresh homemade mozzarella with tomatoes, roasted peppers, garlic, fresh basil and topped with a balsamic glaze… a GREAT value at 9.95. The dish definitely lived up to its’ menu description. It was tasty with an ample sized portion. We also had a side salad that was also fresh,(cold and crisp) consisting of tomatoes, olives, cucumbers and lettuce… There was a bread basket assortment consisting of fresh garlic knots(plenty of garlic) and regular Italian bread. All had a crunchy crust on the outside and soft and warm on the inside. The Gnocchi Sorrentino 11.95(picture in gallery) was fresh, tasty, and very well prepared. The Gnocchi’s had a wonderful consistency with an extremely tasty tomato sauce. You feel like your eating a dish made especially for you. It was a treat to eat the Baked Ziti on a dish and not out of a metal cooking tray. The pasta was firm, tasty with the perfect about of tomato sauce on it so it wasn’t drowning in sauce nor did you have to ask for extra sauce to cover a dry pasta. The chicken cutlet parm hero was excellent… Everything I look for in this simple dish, plenty of chicken that is lightly breaded and full of flavor, melted mozzarella cheese on a lightly toasted hero bread. Even the coffee at the end of the meal was fresh and hot… We will definitely be back with friends to share this wonderful dining experience.

Dear Plum Tomatoes, My coworkers and I have been getting lunch delivered from you ATLEAST twice a week for the past 8+ months. Apart from your owner and his son Bryan, your staff seems to be careless and the quality is inconsistent. Our orders are missing something 1 out of every 3 times, but we never made a big deal about it since you’re only human and people make mistakes. But as regular customers who order the exact same two overpriced salads almost every other day, I would expect the same amount to be charged to our credit cards. Unfortunately, I have the receipts to prove that there have been as much as a $ 4 to $ 6 discrepancy for the same menu items. I understand that you can’t control what goes on at the register at all times, but your employees should be trained appropriately. This would be negligible if it was an isolated incident, but it has been a reoccurring problem for the past few months which we have addressed more than once. We sincerely thought things would get better once we were on a first name basis, but it didn’t. I really wanted to like you guys, but we’ve had enough and unanimously decided to bring our business to Gourmet Grill instead. Please get it together. Love, Kristina
