Somewhat overpriced for the portion sizes. But the food is very good. I had the Panang Curry with chicken, not a lot of chicken in there BTW. The curry had a prominent peanut flavor that was unexpected, but good. The«adventurous» spicy level was just right for me.

Great food, but I downgraded here only because of one bad experience, we were here on a Sunday night and we didn’t expect be busy, but it was loud and busy, plus the waitress was unbelievably slow, but she did apologize many times.

Great portions of food, polite and prompt service. I ordered the Pud Thai with squid, and 2 stars. Ohmagosh — it was so hot! But so tasty, I ate it anyway! Looking around the table of the 7 of us, everyone enjoyed their meals.

Nice atmosphere. Noisy restaurant and hard to have a conversation. We ordered an appetizer of spring rolls, crab rangoon, pad Thai, green curry chicken with noodles. Service was quick for the number of customers. Food was tasty. Portions were medium to small. Had to ask for water. The food was more tourist oriented since it is located downtown. Also thought it was a bit overpriced for Thai food.

Very clean. Great customer service. Very good proportions of food for the price. I have been here several times now with different people and they all like it. Can’t beat a weekday lunch special for 8.95!

This is overpriced Thai food… No where near what I had when I traveled to a small town in Ohio. Went there as we stayed in the hotel nearby.

If you ever think … Oh well, I am ready here, parked, etc. … Think twice and do not enter King and I in Milwaukee. Overpriced, reheated food reeking of vinegar and chemicals. Sub-standard service.

This is a overpriced – average Thai restaurant. It is in downtown Milwaukee so higher priced are a given. Very average strip mall type Thai food. Service was a bit slow and parking can be a problem. Very touristy over whelming kitschy décor. I have heard this place is great for lunch but I was there for dinner. food was not garnished or made to look attractive, just average corstarchy food with rice. Spring rolls were meh. I will not be going again when I visit Milwaikee… there are WAY better choices there!!!

Great Thai food across from the Hyatt hotel. Awesome deal if you get a lunch special, but the prices are a little high during dinner hours for Thai food. Definitely recommend this spot to flight crews that don’t want hotel food.

The ambiance and menu look promising as though you’re going to enjoy an authentic Thai meal. It stops there. Bland, Americanized food lacking traditional flavors. Only stopped in because we were early for a bucks game. Should’ve tried the Italian next door. …or George Webb(of which I’m not a fan). Tried it. …maybe I just ordered the wrong food or have higher expectations of Thai food. 3 stars for service, hot food, location and menu options. Good beer selection for a Thai restaurant! I’ll stick to Thai bbq on national and 35th. Authentic hole in the wall!

The best Panang Curry I have ever had is featured at this establishment. The sauce is fabulously velvety without being too rich or sweet. Their other curries are class leading but the Panang is my favorite. I also highly recommend the satay or a soup. Some of the items are a little pricy but well worth it. Class leading food does not come cheap.

Food was pretty good. Chicken satay appetizer was great! I ordered a special they had that day, good taste just too much sauce. The service could be better. We waited a long time before anyone even came over and servers are short with you, just want your food order right away.

The King and I provided decent-sized portions and had a little extra spice to it(which I loved). We ordered delivery and the food came right on time. It was a bit pricey for Thai food, but overall was worth it, as I rarely can find Thai restaurants that provide that little extra spice.

Came here on the recommendation of a friend and was skeptical to see that it only had 3 stars.(I had my doubts) After a fantastic meal, I realized I shouldn’t base my opinions solely on stars. The staff was friendly, the food was delicious, portions were good, and the rice(jasmine) was deliciously fragrant. However, I did find the pricing slightly on the higher end but that still doesn’t justify a bad review. Overall, king & I if you are reading this I would strongly recommend lowering the prices a little and maybe switch up the décor to a more contemporary look. That being said, I look forward to returning to a hopefully evolved restaurant!

I would say that a 2.5 rating would be more in order but I’ll stick with a 2. My boyfriend and I stopped in for dinner this past Wednesday and were greeted by a host who quickly ushered us to a table. without telling us to follow her. I know that sounds like a no-brainer but she basically grabbed menus and walked away from us, leaving us to wonder! The service was fine but I was left with a Denny’s dining feeling. I asked the server to surprise us with our cups of soup. Well the surprise was a nameless, tepid pool of coconut milk with scallions on it. She brought us both the same soup and did not elaborate. Now, if you’re thinking there was a language barrier, there wasn’t one. The entrees were decent. We had a curry and, forgive me, #27, which was pork with vegetables and peanuts. We shared the Scorpion for two out of a giant plastic sea shell. The drink was… ehhh…Ok. Sugary with a rather cheesy presentation. The service was animatronic, with our server coming around twice within a couple of minutes to ask how everything was. What it was, was weird and mediocre. The whole experience had fast food written all over it.

Wanted Pud Thai. Got Pud Thai. Delicious Pud Thai. Impressed with the décor here, very elaborate — this place was huge! But it was also completely dead. Service was attentive and friendly. Food came super fast, less than 10 minutes. Price seems comprable to my fav, EESANE, but I feel like the serving wasn’t as big as I get there. Still though, I left satisfied.

This is an example of how a great thai restaurant can go down the tubes. I have been going to King and I, starting with its prior location in adjacent block for over 30 years. I had known its founder, Bob Phoungophal, as a patron and our children were classmates, in the 90s. Those were the days, Bob and his wife lived in a huge mansion in columbia reserves and King and I was one of the best asian restaurants in town. It really was a wonderful thai restaurant, under Bob and unfortunately, he has passed away. I still remember how great the King and I fried rice was, under his management. I remember having to wait a long time, to get a table on a week end. I am not sure who is running it. a few years ago, I was told by Bob’s wife that their son was running it. Today, I went to King and I for dinner. Simply put — they might as well close it and put themselves and everyone out of their misery. Neither Bob’s wife nor his son were there. I dont’ know if someone else runs it now. When the owner is absent, it shows in poor service. Both hostess and waitress had«I could care less» attitude. They were not rude or anything but no one seems to really care about anything. Owners — learn a lesson — be there and take care of the quality of food — diners are not stupid — no wonder your restaurant is going down the tubes! The only nice person there was the mexican bus girl. She repeatedly asked us why we left the food un-eaten and if there was anything wrong. The waitress never bothered to ask and we really didn’t feel like complaining. What’s the point? I would never go back to King and I. Today, I went there only in memory of Bob but Bob would be turning in his grave, with the way his restaurant was being run. Food was awful! They seem to have some pre-cooked chicken from a couple of days ago. because same chicken was added to the coconut based soup and king and I fried rice — the chicken had a stale smell! It was just awful. Then there was the«USDA prime N.Y. strip». They are simply lying that it was prime grade meat. It was one probably not even select grade — prime meat? Please don’t lie! Tough, chewy and cheap tasting meat! We simply left the food at the table, paid the check and went to eat at a different restaurant. It was that bad! Of course, they might well have a good lunch buffet — I didn’t try it. For those who want a large quantity for a low price, such buffets might well be a good choice. I for one, avoid such buffets. I urge people to avoid King and I. Please don’t pay attention to the 5 star reviews. If you know what good thai food should taste like, you should avoid this place! I don’t know of any other good thai restaurants either. Maybe Thainamite. Maybe the one on hwy 100 at Greenfield — Singha I think its called. And I think there’s one more — joilansomething. Where ever you decide to go, I would encourage you to avoid King and I. Sorry Bob!
