I stopped at this food truck because they were at the West Allis Farmers Market & I was dying of hunger. I ordered the special, the BBQ bacon burger. I didn’t order any sides(the fries looked good!) but I wish I did because I didn’t have enough cash on me… only to realize after the fact that they take credit cards(which I will remember for next time!!). What’s even better is that they serve Purple Door Ice Cream! I did have to wait a bit for the burger but it was well worth the wait because the burger was delicious. I would definitely recommend this food truck :-)

I saw a tweet about the Eats & Treats food truck having Purple Door salted caramel shakes, and ever since I’ve been practically salivating to get to this truck. I made the hike to Northwestern Mutual after seeing that the truck was there for lunch, and there were about seven people ahead of me in line when I arrived at 12:28. Yes! The salted caramel shake was on the menu. I honestly thought that after walking all that way and thinking about it for so long, it wouldn’t be on the menu. When it was, I was of course convinced that when I ordered it, they would say they were out of the ice cream, but no, my order went through. As for my lunch choice(even though I probably should have just had the shake) I was torn. The chalkboard said the special was chicken and waffles. OK, I have a fair idea of what chicken and waffles are, although I’ve spent all of about 48 hours in the south, but I was mystified as to whether this was going to be some sort of chicken tender wrapped in a waffle, or what exactly it might be, and the waffle dogs said they came with two dogs, so I feared the chicken thing might be way too large, and being that they were busy I didn’t want to stand there waffling(no pun intended) about what I wanted to order. Noticing that their burgers were fresh ground beef, I went with the shroomy Swiss burger, with of course srooms, Swiss cheese, onions brown mustard, and ketchup, according to the menu listing. I also thought that the garlic Parmesan fries sounded great, but being that I had to hustle back to work and eat along the way, I thought balancing a shake and a tray o’fries and trying to pluck them out of the tray along the walk would slow me down too much. Upon checking out the Unilocal reviews later, I see that the fries are made from purple potatoes, which seals the deal — THAT’s what I’m getting next time. And I guess it somewhat explains why there was a lone, purple potato perched atop the napkin dispenser. There were three guys working in the truck, and the food took a bit of time to come up. I believe the order taker told a few people that it would be 10 – 12 minutes. That’s probably about right compared to how long of a wait I had, although my shake came out in about four minutes, and I had polished it off by the time my burger came out. So really, I could have mastered the Parm fries eating on the way back. The mushrooms on the burger had a nice flavor. I’m not sure if it was seasoning or the ketchup/brown mustard flavor. The patty had a decent flavor, although the meat seemed a touch dry, and the bun was very soft. The Swiss, billed as 100% Wisconsin, was the real deal. The burger was $ 7 and the salted caramel shake, which was small, was $ 6. That may seem high for the size, but first, I’m OK with the size because having a shake for lunch is not something I do all the time, and I appreciate not having a monster shake, which I of course would feel obligated to finish, and second, it’s great-quality, local ice cream. I’ll be back to try those fries.

If there’s one lesson I should have learned by now, it’s never trust a man who says«Hey Beautiful» as a means of introducing himself. If there’s another lesson I should have learned by now, it’s always order the specialty. The specialty here is all things sausage + waffle. I really don’t know why I didn’t partake in a waffle dog or waffle beer brat. I think my heart valves may have had something to do with it, but that just hardly makes sense when I think of it in retrospect. Anyway, I ordered a BLT, which yes, seems fool hardy and yes I was disappointed. Not because they did a bad job, but because it was so ordinary when obviously I should have been eating something more. However, as I mentioned, the food was good. The fries particularly so. Thick, skin on, greasy goodness they were. The BLT did not disappoint. No, it lived quite superbly up to it’s name, it was just my fault for not going for the gusto. Maybe that’s because… Whiskey + coke milkshake(made with purple cow ice cream and jack) blinded me. That’s actually what happened, I’m sure of it now. Whiskey milkshake. Dear god. I want another. And this time, I’m going for the damn waffle brats. Longevity be damned!(I think the youngins’ are saying YOLO now.)

Take Out Tuesdays is winding down at Schlitz Park and today I was surprised with a visit from the Eats & Treats Truck. As Rachel pointed out in her Roll MKE review, I’m a BIG fan of the Roll MKE guys(and I may have eaten there about 6 Tuesdays in a row) but look out, they now have some stiff competition from the Eats & Treats Truck. I had heard about them through a story in the Journal-Sentinel but have never seen them around on a Tuesday at Schlitz Park, so when I heard they were coming today, I had to give them a try. First and foremost, the service is outstanding. I hate that I will probably end up comparing everything to the outstanding quality I’ve gotten from Roll MKE… but Christine couldn’t have been nicer. I mean, what other food truck offers you fresh-popped popcorn while you wait? Have you been to a movie theater lately? Popcorn is REALLY expensive! Nice touch! Secondly, let’s take a look at their menu. They seem to specialize in Waffles and Burgers. What a combo. And some of their waffle creations sound a bit intriguing, and also insane. Who would have ever thought that a beer brat waffle would be a good idea? I was certainly intrigued… but the newspaper review said the burgers were the star of the show. So, the burgers. I’m a bit of a burger connoisseur. I’ve had about a hundred bland burgers in Milwaukee, and a handful of delicious ones, and this one fit right towards the top of the delicious ones. Hand-pattied burgers, the real deal. The bun was amazing, the burger patties were damn near perfect, and everything was just great. The only minor complaint was that most of my cheese somehow ended up on my wrapper, which was a little sad, but not enough to ruin the party in my mouth. I’d really like to try a waffle next week, but not sure how crazy I’m going to get with it. Between Roll MKE and these guys, it might be a matter of who parks closer to my office door next week!
