Sometimes when you look at a line of food trucks you want something predictable that you know will be filling, delicious and not cost a million bucks. Oscars has got your back. Really it’s the same food from the restaurant. They tend to pile in their fries in the take out container with whatever sandwich you order… and it’s around $ 6 – 7 depending on the sandwich. For a food truck, the ordering and speediness is dialed in. You grab a soda out of their cooler while you wait and then you receive your box of yum. Hint: Grab an extra napkin or two if you order the Big O.

Located outside of the Milwaukee County Courthouse, they excel in efficiency. For a mere $ 7.50 you get a burger, fries and a drink. Well worth the money. They do accept credit cards, for those who care not to carry cash. The menu is very simple and helps speed up the process of ordering. The food was actually better then I had expected from a food truck.

Descriptive phrase: decadent food-truck burgers. Although in the minority, I did not think the brick-and-mortar Oscar’s was that fantastic. However, their food-truck, stationed on this day outside City Hall, has changed my mind about their food. $ 6.75 got me their full-size Big-O burger and a heaping side of their Parmesan-seasoned fries. Talk about a portion deal. But the quality flavor was their too, even though their patties(by necessity) were obviously pre-formed. Somehow the jalepaneo peppers added hot flavor to the burger rather than just being annoningly spicy. I couldn’t believe how good it was coming out of that truck. Nom nom nom.

I’m amazed Oscar’s on a Roll doesn’t have a review yet. They’ve been out for a few weeks and I finally got to try them today. I figured it would be hard to replicate the amazing burgers they make in house… but I was pleasantly surprised with how good my lunch was. The Big Gringo and I go way back… I feel like I might be missing other things on the menu, but if it ain’t broke… don’t fix it. I think the Big Gringo at their restaurant is one of the 3 best burgers in town… and their food truck version isn’t as great… but it’s still damn good. Burger was a little greasier than I had hoped, so I’m thankful I grabbed extra napkins. The burger patty itself was good… not great… but when comparing it to other food trucks(other than my personal favorite) it’s one of the best in town. I’m glad I asked for my fries without parmesan, because that made them taste even fresher. Oscar himself is running the truck… the man, the myth the legend. Couldn’t be a nicer guy, and the way he rifles through orders was extremely quick, but always with a smile… and a great attitude. Even though summer is ending, I look forward to checking out Oscar’s on a Roll on a regular basis.
