I decided this needed reposting with the current date, so here(previously 3 stars, and previous to that 4): We used to just L-O-V-E Shanahan’s. Colm is a master pastry chef and makes everything from scratch with no pre-processed anything. Sadly it is a shell of its former shelf. Should be renamed«Lunchime with Shanahan’s Pizza» now. The large selection of cakes and pastries has shrunk steadily, eaten by their pizza business. The pizza is okay, but it’s not like it’s hard to find cheaper… and better pizza around. And sadly the hours have been cut way back now. 10 – 4 Monday-Saturday. And of course when I went on a Monday, beneath the«Open Mon-Sat 10−4» sign was another sign«Closed Monday.» Enough. The memories are grand, but the present is a sad legacy for the late Mr. Shanahan. After the next St. Patty’s day, please just close already and be done with it.

4 word review: Excellent food, friendly service. Unilocal doesn’t like short reviews and posts them as ‘tips’. With this added sentence it now qualifies as a review.

A co-worker brought in their banana nut bread and quiche. Both were amazing! I traditionally like both these items homemade but they tasted so good, I would go out my way to buy when in the mood.

Shanahans is my favorite local bakery here in Milltown, one of the only ones in fact, but I think they made a name for themselves! The Irish soda bread they make is delicious, I’ve only ever liked the one my grandmother made, but theirs is so good and I was so surprised when I tastes it. They also have excellent rye bread and delicious chocolate chip cookies. Never had a bad experience here, great Irish bakery!

I was very pleasantly surprised by the pizza here. It’s not like other places, more like how I would make at home but with way better crust. The sauce is fresh and flavorful. The crust is crispy and chewy at the same time. I had spinach pizza, and it was loaded with fresh spinach, not the slimy frozen or canned kind. I’m definitely going back for baked goods, they looked fantastic.

This place is a true little gem in the heart of Milltown. A totally cute little bakery café with great pastries, sandwiches, and… pizza, of all things! I find myself mostly going here for the pizza, and that’s a little odd, but it’s really good! Different from most of the local slice shops, and they use really good ingredients. And I guess being a bakery and all, I shouldn’t be surprised that the crust is so good. This is definitely a place worth checking out next time you’re bored and want to try something new and different.

My favorite place to go for food in Milltown. They have the BEST tuna salad sandwiches I’ve ever had, and i know my tuna salad. the desserts are also really good. We’ve gotten cookies from there often and they always have cute seasonally decorated ones! and don’t get me started on the peanut butter brownies-they’re to die for! The thin-crust pizza is also really good. Now I’m vegan and can only eat their vegetable sandwiches and salads, but they are accommodating, and hey, those are some good veggie sandwiches! The store itself has is really cute inside, too.

Shanahan is a great addition to Milltown’s bakery and pizza landscape. I have yet to try their breads but tried a large pizza which was thin crust, whole wheat and delicious with lots of roasted veggie toppings. We also tried a cannoli cake which was tasty, not the best I’ve ever had, but I appreciated that they sold a mini size for $ 9. I also really want to try their sandwiches as they look really good – next time! I’ll be back here soon to sample breads and sandwiches, but Shanahan is definitely worth a stop into.

Great little shop. I went with a friend for some pizza and sandwiches, we both live close by but have never been. This will change now. The pizza was thin and crispy and the sub was delish. They have sandwiches in the display case but they will make custom ones if asked. I also know where to go locally for a fresh cannoli!

I’ve been here 2x in the last couple of months will plan to make a couple of more stops in the upcoming months so if there is need to update I will esp since I may be trying other things I’ve yet to try. i’ll list each item & the # of stars i think it deserve then will average it out not giving any more credence to one item or another mini carrot cake – average taste with LOTS of icing 3 apple turnover – 1st visit dry(air pockets clued me in it may not taste that good – but 2nd visit larger, fresher & delicious so make sure they look fresh which tells me not everything is made same day) 4 rasp/peach tarts — so-so not very fresh 2 rye bread — tasteless + on bottom it looked like crumbs/seeds from other types of breads so not cleaning off trays 1 reg brownies – both times very good, moist, icing just right + fugde chunks adds an extra choc boost 5 coffe crumb cake-very dry a bit of taste 2 plain pizza – tasty so i can why the other reviewers like it 5 bread pudding – different color each time but in both cases virtually tasteless will not give this s 3rd try 1 so far this seems to be a hit/miss place — based on other reviews i will try Irish soda bread & there are a couple more items i’ve yet to try so i may be updating

This bakery is a cute little place tucked away in the middle of Milltown on Main St. For a neighborhood that is pretty lacking in delicious, gourmet-style breads, sandwiches and pizzas, this bakery fills a gaping hole in more than satisfactory fashion. The authenticity of its Irish soda bread instantly brought me back to my trip to Cork, Ireland and my friend’s aunt’s kitchen. I think that’s important to get out right in the start. They bake all their breads from scratch — no mix, no chemicals, no additives. For me, Shanahan’s fills a special need. I love sandwiches. All of ‘em. But sometimes you want a certain sandwich. And I don’t mean the greasy, overstuffed sandwiches you can find at the Grease Trucks. And I don’t mean the cold subs of Tastee Sub Shop or Jersey Subs. Don’t get me wrong — those are all wonderful too, in their time and place. But the cravings I have — the ones that are impossible to fill in this area — are for the sandwiches with crusty, aromatic bread filled with melty(non-American) cheese melding with the various fillings, and then… it gets toasted. And here, at Shanahan’s, I can get that much to my satisfaction. Of course, I haven’t tried the sweet baked goods here… And I haven’t had a pizza yet. Oooh I have heard amazing things about those pizzas though.
