The garlic bread fondue was amazing! Between that and the entrée, I barely had room for dessert. I can’t pass up a delicious sounding cheesecake though. Even my girlfriend made room to try some.

Let’s start with the bowl of cheese that is described as fondue on the menu. We ordered garlic bread with a cheese fondue, and instead of pieces of garlic bread to dip, they simply put a loaf in the bowl of cheese so it is soggy and quite gross when it hits the table. The calamari was mediocre as it was 70 percent cherry peppers(probably to cut costs). The only reason this place is getting 2 stars is because the waitress was quick and attentive and they make a decent drink. After feeling sick from the overload of cheese, we will not be returning.

Delicious food — very dated décor(not a big deal). However, the service was excellent and again, the food was so yummy. I had the Chicken Christina and would definitely order it again. The sauce was savory, the chicken cooked perfectly, and the fresh mozzarella made it! The calamari was aslo excellent — it’s served«Rhode Island Style» — as I know it — with cherry and banana peppers. The batter was light and the calamari was perfectly tender — not chewy at all! I would highly recommend and would absolutely go back.

I have been hosting a monthly work event at Amici for almost a year — typically we have 20 – 25 attendees and we are always accommodated with wonderful service and delicious food! It’s hard to make 20+ people happy with a restaurant but Amici is always able to please — great menu, great prices, great service!!!

The service was outstanding, Thea really made my afternoon. The food was good, and the pricing was fair. I will happily return here, it’s a great place.

Amici’s has always had a solid martini menu, and I definitely enjoyed many evenings there back in the day when happy hour included free appetizers along with a martini discount. Recently I visited during lunch hour and found they had some pretty nice lunch specials. We were celebrating a small occasion and so decided to indulge in some martinis — just as good as I remembered them to be :) Our server was friendly and attentive, accommodating all of our requests. They don’t usually bring out oil for dipping unless requested but when we asked for that she hooked us up and the way they spiced it was excellent. I ended up ordering the spring salad and the tuna appetizer for myself. The tuna was absolutely fantastic! The sweet mango sauce and the spicy wasabi cream really balanced each other well. My salad had the potential to be great — the cheese, glazed pistachios and pears were a really nice combo — but the spring mix itself was wilted and there were even a few pieces in there that were starting to turn. In retrospect I should have sent the salad back, but between my buzz and the hunger I didn’t care so much in the moment. I did take a star off for this though, I feel like it’s one thing if a couple bad pieces sneak into the mix, but the mix itself should be fresh overall. Things did conclude well as our group decided to order their special cappuccinos — I don’t like cappuccinos typically, but I think I actually enjoyed the due chocolate cappuccino more than the martini I had ordered. Who knew that adding liqueurs to coffee would make it taste better… :p Overall I do recommend Amici’s as a good choice for dining or drinks.

Basic Italian food is good, some of the more involved dishes were pretty average. Service was very good

Amici was recommended to me by an Italian-American Middletown native and I was not disappointed. The chicken Milanese was so delicious and the portions were huge for the price. I took leftovers home and still had 2 more«meals» for later. I had the tiramisu for dessert and it was smooth and creamy as it should be. We had the red wine sangria pitcher and it was not heavy or overly sweet. Not too busy and we sat outside, able to watch the wonders of Middletown roam by. It’s directly next to the police station so we weren’t too worried about being robbed :) I deducted one star because there was a table that had not been cleared and a ton of bees were getting drunk on the remnants of the previous patrons drinks. It seems like the staff was not making any attempt to mess with that which made it uncomfortable.

*Update*… After previously submitting my review of two stars, Angelo contacted me apologizing for my inconsistent experiences and that they are striving to improve therefore based on that I have increased the rating to a three and will be back to try again. Thanks Angelo! I keep coming back hoping for some changes but it’s not happening, for me anyway. The bar is so small and the bartenders we keep getting are kind of slow and lackadaisical when it comes to getting you your drink order quickly or even asking you for your order for that matter. The food has yet to impress, yes they do have some unique and essential Italian dishes albeit nothing ever really stands out when I’m there. I was recently there for a rehearsal dinner and I had the chicken marsala as did a couple others. Each piece of chicken was a different size and different consistency. One would be chewy, the other cooked to perfection and the sauces all tasted different as well. I commend them for making it to order but one sauce would have little to no mushrooms while the other was bursting with them, one sauce was salty like the top fell off, the other watery and bland. I’ve had a couple other meals there and again, if the prices weren’t so high I would enjoy the food a little bit more and the experience but I just can’t see paying what I pay, receiving so little and different each time.

Did I go to the same place as these other Unilocalers? Friday evening place wasn’t even busy. That tells me that people know better. Immediately seated outside. Ambiance was nice. Our waitress was awful. My girlfriend in fact had an awful experience with her before. Salads took 25 minutes to come out drinks 20 minutes. Salad was fine. 25 minutes after our entrees arrived. My rare tuna was well done. After fifteen minutes I was finally able to flag down someone to take it back. My girlfriend shared with me untill a new one came out… fifteen minutes later. I had lost my appetite. Had a few bites. Bland. As I’m paying they offer me a free dessert. Seriously? After making me wait for 2 hours for an expensive frustrating meal?! My girlfriend has a lot of Italian family in Middletown. All are not impressed with this place. None of us will be returning.

Very good food enjoyed the outdoor seating Had the chicken piccata, it was tender and moist with pasta it was great Salad was sad one tiny tomato and one slice of cucumber. Server made the all too common mistake, not being observant, asking how my meal was while my mouth was full. Otherwise good service. Definitely will return here.

What a wonderful discovery! We stopped for lunch and were happily surprised. We both had chicken and broccoli(lunch special). It came over Penne Pasta with a wonderful sauce. The bread it was served with was delicious! Service was impeccable I wish we lived near this restaurant. By the way there is plenty of indoor seating but most every one was on the patio, the weather was so gorgeous!

I’ve been here numerous times and don’t have anything bad to report. Normally I go with friends and we sit at the bar and eat at the bar. They have a special menu each week that include drinks, apps, main meal and a dessert. Leon makes great drinks and I have had many great desserts. Love the cheeseburger soup too! They do offer gluten free pasta and you can change up your meal(different sauce or pasta choice) if you’re a pain in the ass like me and usually want something changed or left off they happily accommodate. Prices are average and all staff are pleasant, for as often as I go here never once had an issue.

We were two couples trying out Amici in Middletown the past weekend. First, we were told by the hostess on the phone very flatly that they don’t do reservation fewer than 6 people. When we got there around 6pm, we were seated almost promptly. The hostess weren’t too happy when we didn’t want to sit behind a group who were celebrating a wedding shower group. Instead we were seated in front of a group who was a more mature group. The menu looked interesting. Our server was Shannon. She was attentive, prompt and courteous. She brought our soup and salads first. She paced our food so that we weren’t rushed to finish the soup and salads hurriedly. My spouse had a veal dish with a pasta on the side. I had seafood bolognese. It was a good size portion that I had to take home half. Our guests had a lobster ravioli and baked scrod with spinach. They were satisfied except Gerry had some of my spouse’s pasta side. We also had two cannoli to share and they were good. We finished with three coffees. On the overall, we were satisfied with the food and service minus the cold hostess in the front. The ambiance was impressive but it was loud around us when the acoustic did not help. This was better than the Fiori we went before. We prefer here.

Amici’s has consistently good Italian food. It is one of the few places that still has veal on the regular menu which always makes my husband happy. I have enjoyed a number of different dishes and never been unhappy with the choice. Prices are in the 15 – 30 $ range. Service is attentive and friendly. Dessert really rocked it last time I was there.

I’ve been to this restaurant numerous times before. Today was so very disappointing. They no longer have the crazy good bread that I loved the bread probably was brought in rather than baked in house. It was old and dry. My entire meal(steak and garlic mashed potatoes) were cold. My daughters Penne Ala Vodka was bland and had an abundance of tomato paste. The salads and drinks were good. Sadly I won’t be returning. To have spent $ 134.00 before the tip for such a less than enjoyable meal is beyond disappointing.

Wow! I can’t believe I haven’t written a review for Amici yet! This is my go-to Italian place in Middletown. The food is repeatably good as well as the service. Many of the waitstaff have been there for years and you can tell that they truly take pride in working at Amici. The salads are full of luscious fresh greens and delicately prepared. My favorite dish is the Gorgonzola chicken. It is absolutely fantastic. Mostly everything else is awesome too. And save room for dessert because there are some delicious options.

Went here for dinner last night. Main dining room was a bit busy so they offered a large booth in the lounge which was fine, albeit a tiny bit small for 5 people(even though the maitre’d said it could fit 6… we all have jackets… and elbows). Meal began with some fresh tasty slices of bread and a roasted garlic clove which the table seemed to enjoy. We ordered a bottle of wine to split which the waiter nicely poured for each of us. I ordered the spaghetti bolognese which came with a decent salad beforehand. The bolognese was way too creamy for me — I prefer it on the more tomato-y side with a combination of meats(beef, pork) and it was an incredibly heavy dish I ate half of. Most of the pasta dishes seemed very cheese heavy which is to a lot of people’s liking, but being lactose intolerant, I try to not overdo it. If I recall correctly, the menu didn’t state an overwhelming amount of cheese in the bolognese dish so I was kind of disappointed. It tasted good, but just too heavy. Overall the service was good and the food QUALITY was fine. I would have preferred more tomato-less cheese kinds of dishes. But the menu was fairly large and suited for many tastes. Prices were on the slightly expensive side, but it’s Italian and rarely do you find«cheap» Italian.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Middletown. Consistently good service and quality food. Can be pricey if you do the whole appetizer/dinner/dessert thing with wine/drinks, but the same is true of any of the Italian restaurants in Middletown. Amici is priced similarly with Tuscany Grill, First and Last and Fiore II. I went with a couple of friends on 7÷5÷13 for lunch. My first time there for lunch, and I was excited as I get their emails every week and the lunch specials always sound so good. One of my friends got my favorite, the pan seared scallops(YUM — always perfectly cooked). My other friend and I got paninis, I got the tomato and mozzarella, she got the portobello mushroom. I was a little disappointed that there was a charge to sub out a salad for the fries, the sandwich on the specials menu came with salad but those on the regular menu came with fries or pasta salad. No big deal though, lots of restaurants do the same. I had the watermelon sangria(not very strong as far as alcohol content) and then a watermelon martini. Perfect summer drink!!! Good lunch spot but GREAT dinner spot. Definitely on our list of go to restaurants in town for special occasions or a romantic date night.
