We have came to this one before and it was fine. The server name was Jerry he was so dam rude. When we first sat down he brought us the menu and didn’t say anything. I was like whatever. So when he came back and all he said«what would you like?» Once we ordered he grabbed the menus and left. Everytime we asked him for something he seemed so bothered. He seemed to be nicer to his other tables. Because of his horrible service I wasn’t able to enjoy my meal. The food was not as good. The cornbread was ok. The cornbread from the location in Dadeland is better. The chicken was very burnt. The fries were not fresh. They tasted like they had just been sitting there. The ribs were ok. I will not be back to this location. The cashier was very nice. The cashier was the only good experience I had while at this location. If you want shortys, make the drive and go to any other location.

I’ve been coming here for years for their corn on the cob, spare ribs, and beer. Yes it’s true, the food may not be top quality, but it is always good enough to leave you feeling satisfied. The corn on the cob is delicious with some salt! And for the ribs, they bring a house sauce on the side that is served warm and is a little spicy. Large pitchers of beer are only $ 8. And last but not least, the service is always great!

Been here a few times with the family… Its a place that you can get fast service and decent food. Nothing out of this world. I had the pulled pork sandwich which was overwhelmed with bbq sauce. Couldn’t even taste the pork. The brisket plate my husband had was dry and cold… so was the brisket sandwich my daughter had. My other daughter had a sloppy joe which she enjoyed. Service was ok but nothing spectacular. Its what you expect from a commercialized restaurant. If you want to have great american bbq, make the drive to Shiver’s…now that’s great bbq!

Good corn. Their sauce in the small shaker is so watery that it soaks into the bun and after you take a few bites the bun falls apart. Somehow the quality is not up to par. Years ago it was good.

The service was good. The food not so much. The ribs tasted very cheap! The food came very quickly which was good but I didn’t even get to finish my ribs because I hated them! The ribs I have tasted at chilies were better than these. I wouldn’t recommend.

I had not had barbecue yet since moving down to Miami, and this place hit the spot. I had the pulled pork plate, with coleslaw and a baked potato, and it was real tasty. Maybe even more important to the meal, the sweet tea was good! I did not sample any of the other entrees or sides, but the table next to me ordered everything and the kitchen sink. It all looked good, and it looks like this bbq place does it right. If you’re looking for a place to go and feed that southern bbq craving, this place will satisfy your taste buds. One downer is that I did not see cornbread on the menu, but the garlic bread sufficed.

Loved the place! The waitress was extremely welcoming, kind, and helpful in making us comfortable(I wish I could remember her name). She was patient with helping my family navigate through the many meat options in the menu. I got the Pork Steak which I will admit was a little burnt on the edges but chewy and tasty overall. They have this amazing orange spicy sauce which will go good with any meat as long as you love the sweet and spicy flavor. The side of garlic bread is soft, buttery, and doesn’t leave the smelly garlic after breath. They give a generous amount of French fries as a side dish, a bit bland but I dipped them in ketchup to suffice. I’m not a fan of coleslaw but I was willing to give their’s a try and I did not regret it. The waiting time to get the 4 platters for my group was only about 10 – 15 minutes. There’s a lively atmosphere in the restaurant, very western homely feel. The waitress was always nearby ready to assist, which was extremely helpful when we were getting ready to go. There was a lot of leftover steak, ribs, fries, and mashed potatoes we wanted to take with us. The waitress knew exactly what we needed to easily pack all the food. She got the correct amount of boxes and even brought us extra sauce containers and tops so we can take some of the spicy sauce and to cap the container with the gravy. She also gave us 4 small cups of warm water that had drops of lime juice in it so we can dip our fingers in it to get rid of the sticky juices on ours hands from holding the bones. Very useful. My overall experience at Shorty’s was amazing thanks to the awesome waitress and the great food.

I have come here a few times and always get a great service, most of the servers here are young and energetic folks. They do make a great Margaritas and Pork ribs are my favorites.

Did they BOIL the brisket? GRAY meat with no(as in none) evidence of ever having seen a flame. Some of the best brisket I’ve ever had was from the Texas Hill Country between Austin and San Antonio. This place does its best to try to recreate that atmosphere. But what they really need to do is focus a little more on their technique. Hint: if your brisket is GRAY, you’re doing it wrong!

Overrated local chain! I ordered the spare rib/baby back rib platter. I was told it was about a half rack of each. I opted for french fries and asked for a side of sauce other than the«sweet sauce» on the table since these are served dry… the menu talks all about the«pink ring of smoke» so I was pretty excited for some real BBQ… what I got was an average sized dinner plate of 5 smaller babyback ribs in 1 uncut rack with two very small spare ribs cut into singles ontop, a small paper ramekin of coleslaw and a baked potato. The babyback ribs were smothered in sauce while the two spare on top were bone dry. The waitress apologized(after taking almost 10 min to flag her down) and brought me back the plate with french fries instead of the baked potato, and two more spare ribs with a side shaker of sauce. Food was luke warm, the sauced babyback had the sauce thick from the cold temp and the meat tasted as if it was heated and reheated several times it was so dry. The spare ribs were just thrown on the grill(had char/fresh grill marks), but was barely luke warm. Ive had babyback ribs at real BBQ joints which were bigger than these spare ribs! All of this could be excused when the flavor exploded in your mouth and gave you a real BBQ, slow-smoked taste that you’ve been craving and smelling… but theres no flavor, and no excuses. Dull and dry meat totally lacking any pink rings, with dry and crispy and tough exterior meat. The sauce tastes highly of A-1 steak sauce(that orange peel zest flavor) and maybe a dash of liquid smoke but no authentic flavors, and with meat this dry does it really matter, the meal is already ruined! Sides of fried okra were greasy and over breaded with bitter okra and no sauce for sipping. Fried green tomatoes had 5 medium sized and over breaded slices with a generic ranch dressing(that I’m sure came out of a generic food service plastic container). Coleslaw is shredded cabbage and some pepper and mayo, no flavor at all here, less than a forkful was all it took for us to put our forks down. Shorty’s is short of flavor, short on service and short on any chance of any of us ever returning or recommending eating there. The biggest shame isn’t that we wasted our night on such a bad meal with so many great local options nearby, but instead that a poor pig gave it’s life and flesh in sacrifice only to be disrespected with the way it was prepared… I feel like the chef here owes that pig an apology!

What to say… pretty darn good! Quick dinner visit on our way to Key West. My husband Unilocaled this place, so we decided to give it a shot. Friendly greeting when we walked in. Was not crowded at all, and we were friendly seated right away. Greeted by our waitress. Our drinks came out quickly, and with 15 mins later so did our food… and our food was HOT. I ordered the pulled chicken sandwich. Nice tender chicken, nicely flavored, and good sauce. It came with fries which were nice and crunchy. Not burnt and not soft. Cole slaw was tasty too. Could actually taste the coke slaw, it was not drenched in mayonnaise. I am stuffed. Huge portion sizes. A lot of food for little money. The service and food will definitely make sure when I am in the area and looking for BBQ, will not mind at all stopping here.

For someone who is not a big fan BBq, this place was not bad at all! Me and my wife ordered a special for two, which included barbecue ribs, chicken, Fries, Corn on the cob, coleslaw and sweet beans. It was really yummy and definitely would have fed 4 not 2 people. it was so much food! Very good for the price. The ambience was fun, with Southern decoration, and the restaurant smelled really good. The service was quick and very friendly, like I said, for someone who is not a fan of southern food, this place was probably one of the better ones I’ve been to. Would not mind coming back again

I don’t eat meat but for this place I have to make an exception. Their ribs are delicious soft juicy fall off the bone good and you must try the corn on the cob. It comes in a bed of melted butter, it’s not diet friendly but it is good. The garlic bread that comes with the meal have a nice crunchy crust and soft buttery center. The coleslaw it’s also very good. My only complaint is that they do not let you substitute anything so in my case I can’t never get my onion rings instead of the french fries. I have also had the baked beans and key lime pie and as with everything else they make it is outstanding. The service is always great and the atmosphere is very casual.

Once again, I am extremely disappointed with this particular Shorty’s. My last visiting was over one year ago. I was reminded why we haven’t dined at this establishment in such a long time. We arrived on Friday, 11÷14÷14 at 7PM for dinner. We sat at our table for over 15 minutes when we realized the party at the table next to us sat after us and had been served. We even checked with that party to make sure we were correct and they confirmed we were sitting before them. They were also shocked to learn that our order hadn’t been taken. I went over to the Hostess and requested to speak with the Manager. After a 10 minute wait, the manager arrived and he came to our table without an introduction or apology. In fact, he seemed bothered that we had called on him. He only uttered the words, «I’ll take your order». He took our order and stomped off. The waitress appeared a few seconds later and apologized but of course had an excuse. She said our table had been added to her table list at the last minute and she had not been advised. She asked for our order to which we explained that had already given our order to the Manager. Our bill was brought to us and since I did not receive an apology, I would have expected at least one item to have been comped, but sadly nothing was. I asked the Hostess for the Manager’s name and she said«Jerry». I asked for his last name and she claimed to not know what it was. How can a waitress not know her bosses’ last name? In any event, Jerry is not a properly trained manager. He does nothing to ensure customer satisfaction. Sadly this is my last visit to Shorty’s. I advise anyone planning to go to this Shorty’s location, plan to be treated poorly and wait…

This place has the most amazing BBQ chicken and sauce. Great service and insist on getting the chicken hot off the grill. Fun to sit on picnic tables– family style. A tradition in my family for 3 generations. One of my top 5 favorite places to eat in Miami.

I’ve been eating at Shorty’s for over 20 years. (I used to frequent the US1 location years ago and then Bird Road and Doral locations more recently) Service and food are consistent across all locations but I’ll review this one since I’m here now. Im obsessed with BBQ and any Miamian knows BBQ places in Miami are few and far apart. So I usually get my fix at Shorty’s or Woody’s. This year(2014) they introduced CORNBREAD and to say that I’m stoked is an understatement. Southern style cornbread and BBQ go hand-in-hand and should be sold at all BBQ joints! I’ve waited yearssss for Shorty’s to offer it and I can honestly say it was worth the wait. It comes in a little basket with two Sunnyland whipped spreads and a fork and knife… yes you’ll need the utensils. Its so warm and soft itll break apart on the first bite. Granted, this can become a little tedious to eat but I prefer this 100 times over a dried out corn brick. They’ve go 2 types of sauce; a room temp/cold sweet one and a warm/hot temp savory one(they call this the«drippings». I love both and use them on different things. .for exmaple the sweet one is great on the fries and chicken breasts while the hot one is great on the ribs. Fries are krinkle cut= my favorite. Brisket is never dry… and some times its ridiculously moist even I’m surprised. Its served with a dipping sauce but I enjoy it as it is. Another BBQ staple is Sweet Tea and they’ve got it. Actually theyve got both, sweet and Unsweetened. Both tasty. Catering is just as good. I ordered once for a Birthday party. Pricing is decent, can’t really complain. Oh, come during lunch(Monday-Friday 12−4pm) for some reduced prices. Dont forget to grab some chocolates for the drive home. Chocolate Andes Mints available for 5 cents by the register.

People may think this is a rinkydink spot, but the food has been good for years. I usually get a corn in the cob for appetizer. This beauty is soaked in melted butter, add a bit of salt & pepper and you’ve got an amazing little gem! This is the closest you’ll get to the corn from the Youth Fair! For the entrée spare rib platter with chicken and fries. You must use the smoke sauce they make in-house. This is the key ingredient. Overall the BBQ flavor is great and extremely filling. I also highly recommend the cole slaw. Can’t forget the personal AmberBock pitcher. It serves around 3 – 4 personal mugs. Our waitress Megan was amazing. Great service all around. What else can you ask for? Andes mints on the way out for 5¢!
