This is getting annoying. Miami Beach: please start patronizing your local businesses! JlF was the rare Belgian delight in Miami… and now it’s gone. It had a very cool atmosphere, late menu, fantastic beer menu, good price point, pain merguez, frites, and Belgian waffles. All awesome. I’m very sad at its passing. This is why we can’t have nice things!

DONOTORDERDELIVERYFROMTHISPLACE! EVER… What a disaster! I went to their online website to place my order. Two hours passed, and still no food. So finally called the place up, and this lady who barely speaks English proceeds to tells us that they are NOT automatically notified of orders completed online unless someone calls in the order as well. Helllo??? She then proceeds to re-take the order from us verbally and asks us for payment. We then reminded her that we already paid for our meal online via PayPal and it is unacceptable to ask for another payment given all of the inconveniences we’ve had and since we ALREADYPAID for the meal. She finally agreed and said that she will try to get our order out as soon as possible. ANHOURLATER…(by this time, 3 hours+ post the original order…) our food arrives INCOMPLETE! And of the food we did receive, the food was BLAH! UGH! And to add insult to injury, I’ve been emailing the owner to receive partial refund for food we did not receive, and after at least three follow-ups, still NOREFUNDFORFOODWEDIDNOTRECEIVE. If you want to die of hunger while waiting for blah food to arrive, order from this place. Otherwise, I’d recommend going elsewhere. There’s just better food out there, for better value, that doesn’t take 3 hours+ to arrive. :/

I stopped in here for a quick dinner while the rest of my friends went to the Five Guys down the block. The staff was especially friendly and helpful when I was indecisive about what to order. I had a very tasty chicken sandwich that came with a fresh salad. The sandwich was simple but very flavorful and I loved the bread it came on. The price was very reasonable as well. The place was quiet and there was only one other table with two girls smoking hookah. I’d definitely come back during my next visit to Miami Beach.

I only ordered delivery, but was very frustrated. The delivery charge was outrageous when added to tax and tip. Also, the online menu is incorrect, and lists salmon instead of salami in a popular sandwich, and I was very unhappy to receive salami as we eat only fish, milk and egg animal products. There were items missing from the order that they re-delivered, though by then all the food was cold and no longer fresh. The prices are extremely high for sandwiches, and there are far better options on the beach. I was promised a full refund, but was still charged. I would have been happy with a fresh replacement sandwich as described on the menu, and the sauces and other extras I paid for or a partial refund, but they didn’t come through. I will eat my French/Flemish on Espanola Way or a truly gourmand restaurant.

It took a long time for the food, 30 minutes plus for a sandwich and fries, however, when they arrived both were excellent. service was good as well.

If u want camaraderie and the most merguez combined with 80 degree weather and the coolest techno not to mention a good bottle of wine this is the place. Jean is Belgium and if u love French in a bastion of European coolness. From Morrocans and French. The food is terrific. Love the sausages and even at 2am people are friendly. Loved it. The little potato things are wonderful and Jean makes the food so it is personal service.

I enjoyed this place quite a bit. Nice change from the Cuban food which predominates the area. Food was fresh and tasty. Belgian frites were really good with the spicy mayonnaise. Serving size of our sandwich and salad was very large. Prices are on the low side. Décor is plain and 20% added gratuity a turn off but I would come back.

Great quality food and always fresh. I’ve been coming here since they first opened and they are becoming better and better at mastering their dishes. You cannot come here without trying their Andalouse sauce. They put this sauce on almost everything and I always ask for extra on the side. I never had such a amazing tasting sauce, ever. I wish they sold it by bottles. The food is clean, fresh and lite. The bread they use for their sandwiches is something else. I wish I knew where they get it from. Whenever I’m craving a cheese burger I order from Jean la Frite. Fresh bread, the quality of the meat is excellent and they drizzle their Andalouse sauce… mmmmmmm. I never feel guilty after eating here because everything is homemade and lean. Another favorite are the nutella crepes, but too pricey. Overall everything else on the menu is surprisingly priced low for the great quality of ingredients. You have to try the fries, warning their addicting. Authentic Belgium fries, I’ve been to Belgium and trust me these are a reflection of perfection! The staff is super nice but sometimes I have a difficult time understanding them. They deliver after hours.(super late) The owners are super nice, sincere and really care about their customers satisfaction. What I don’t understand is their new look outside with the hookah and the lounge couches. Luckily I discovered them when they first opened and became a fan. Now the atmosphere makes the place look like just another typical SoBe confused restaurant trying to be different. Sometimes simplicity(like their excellent food) is the way to go. Don’t forget to try the Andalouse sauce, you’ll understand…:)

Food and service are 4-star, for sure! I have been here twice in the last two days. The first time, I stopped by to take away lunch. I had the smoked salmon salad. It was very good — TONS of smoked salmon on top of spring mix, with some hard boiled egg, tomoatos and shredded carrot. The dressing was a tangy dijon, on the side. Service was quick and friendly. I returned last night with my parents and the Man. Mom had the salmon(not smoked — seemed to be poached). It came with a tomato-y sauce, a salad and fries. I had the 3 cheese crêpe(goat, ricotta and another cheese — all soft cheeses, not melty), salad and fries. Dad had the cheeseburger with, you guessed it — salad and fries. The Man had the lamb sausage sandwich, with the same sides. The sandwiches came on lovely ciabatta buns. Also, they had a special where they threw in a beer along with it. So, a good deal. Everyone really enjoyed their food. The Man swapped out fries for«nuggets» — basically deep fried mashed potato balls. Wowza! I also had a cherry lambic with my meal. The beer selection is top notch, by the way. We ended the meal with a pot of mint tea, which is a MUSTHAVE. I don’t even really like tea, and this tea was amazing! They brewed regular black tea with fresh mint leaves and sugar. Delectible! We also had the fruit crêpe and the chocolate crêpe. The German waitress was very friendly and the service was good. What keeps it from being a 4 star? The TWENTYPERCENT auto-gratuity! Honestly, the food is so reasonable, we probably would have tipped 20% on our own, but having an auto gratuity of 20% without noting it on the menu is really offensive. It kind of put a damper on the evening. But, I will definitely return, likely take-away or paying cash.

A nice new late-night option on Washington, Jean La Frite offers unique Belgian cuisine at a very reasonable price. For less than $ 10 per person, you can munch on authentic Belgian fries, meatballs, sandwiches, salads and even crepes. Like most places on the beach, don’t expect first class service, however the food and price point make up for the poor service. My hubby and I like to share the meatball platter and a strawberry crêpe. Perfect portion sizes for sharing and much better for you than other greasy late-night options in the area.

The Belgians got it right. Prepare your food well and be nice to people. It’s that simple! Stopped in here on the way to Five Guys looking for some fries. I said why not try this new French(Belgian) fry place instead? Ordered the small fries. The portion was quite substantial for only $ 1.95. Fresh and hot with spicy mayo dipping sauce on the side served in a paper cone that conveniently fits into holes on the counter and table tops! I look forward to going back, trying some more of their dishes, Belgian beers, and hanging out for a while.

I saw this place as I was walking down the street to a burger place, and the menu here looked so much more interesting and healthy. I had the tuna salad atop peach halves, with a side of frites. The tuna salad was really tasty and the peach halves were large. The salad on the side was so-so, mostly shredded carrots. The frites were delivered in a lovely white paper cone and gently inserted into a hole in the table. Made me feel like I was in Belgium or something. Since it was mid-day I didn’t try the Belgian beer selection, and was disappointed that the«green tea» on the menu turned out to be a can of Arizona tea.

I hadnt realized this little gem had opened right down the corner from me. Just ordered their tuna salad and it was delish! I really wanted to have the frites. I’ll try the frites after a hangover this weekend. Total must!

Words could not describe how excited I was to hear that an «authentic Belgian frites shop» had opened up on the beach. Fries are a huge weakness of mine, and Belgian frites are the be-all, end-all of fries, so I had huge expectations. I lived in northern France, a stone’s throw from Belgium, for a year, and had pretty much been dreaming about Belgian frites since then, which also didn’t help me to manage my expectations. Jean la Frite delivered some pretty good frites, but my expectations had been set too high. The frites are skin-on and are too boxy shaped to be true frites. If you’ve ever had frites in Belgium(or northern France or Amsterdam), or have been to Pommes Frites in NYC, you know what I’m talking about. The sauces for the frites are a little on the skimpy side, with thimble-sized portions doled out by the staff. And there’s only about 5 dipping sauces available, definitely on the low end for a frites shop. But the frites are served in paper cones, which fit directly into the tables, so bonus points for ingenuity, for sure. We also tried the Belgian waffle, with fruit & whipped cream, which was pretty good. The«menu» specials that they offer, which include a meat dish, a green salad, and frites, offer a very good deal for under $ 10. They also have 2-for-1 beers during happy hour(Stella or Hoegaarten only), but the beers weren’t quite cold enough when served. If I’d managed my expectations better, this would be a 4-star review without question. But I didn’t, so 3-stars it is.

Stopped in here for a couple peeps to have some frites. After arriving and seeing the low cost of things on the menu(particularly considering its in SoBe) I decided I was more hungry than I initially thought. The frites were yummy & they bring you a variety of dipping sauces, I think it’s best with just the ketchup. The spicy one is clearly made with Tabasco & I personally prefer other ways to make things hot, since I think Tabasco tastes like straight-up vinegar. Anyhow, I had a tomato stuffed with shrimp salad which was OK. They use baby shrimp, but the tomato wasn’t quite ripe so it was lacking flavor & was difficult to cut. The waffle with fruit was good, but small. We also happened to be there for happy hour and beer was buy on get one free. Great deal, but the beer was warm, so that was kind of a bummer. Over all and OK place, it may be hit or miss or it may just be certain items are better than others.

Jesse Eisenberg’s late appearance on Lincoln Rd. led me to this place. After the aforementioned celebrity was tardy for a promotional event on Lincoln, I took a few shots of him and Aziz Ansari and I proceeded to look for something to munch on… It was way beyond lunch time… I found myself roaming around Washington Ave, when I was prompted by a handmade sign, to come in to this Belgian place called Jean La Frite, and boy am I glad I came here. It felt like discovering this brand new and refreshing place and I was so excited to be there. Right away, I knew this was the place to be. They had an awesome selection of Belgian beers and Ales, and a short but succinct menu that made my mouth water. I had to go with the Meatballs and salad, that come with the fries, and I washed it down with a Gulden Draak Ale that was so so good! The service was great, and the place is nice and cozy and modern looking… they also have a breakfast menu which they had no problem offering at 2:45 pm… Nice… I recommend this little place with two thumbs way up! The food is great the service is friendly and the beer is so so cold. :)

it is 4th of july and where should i go for dinner? jean la frite of course. why? because they are the new place in south beach everyone i know has been talking about and because they dont serve french fries. they serve belgium fries. whats the fucking difference? who knows and i know that wikipedia probably has the answer for this but little do i care cause to me and even other reviewers. theyre the same thing. i celebrated by getting the burger which comes on a baguette. the meat was good and all the veggies were fresh. it came with a nice salad and the confused fries. served with what we in south america call ‘salsa golf’ or mayo+ketchup = good stuff. i also got a stella, i noticed the nice variety of belgium beers, however i did not get any of those cause i think theyre too heavy for pairing with a heavy meal. a burger is still a burger even if it comes on a baguette which by the way, was not as fresh as i expected it to be. service was very nice and friendly though, but my bill came up to $ 17 including tax and tip. a little too steep for a burger, fries and a beer. I’d probably swing by and try other stuff from the menu. three solid stars for now.

Carb heaven: great french fries and waffles! This is a cute small space on the west side of Washington Avenue near the Mariott Hotel. It’s owned and run by a family recently transplanted from Belgium, the birthplace of fries, so I trust the meatballs, too.

Just opened a week ago, this is a new little place next to the Marriot Hotel on 15th and Washington that specializes in on-the-spot«Hand-Cut» french fries and Meatballs? Yes… meatballs! The place’s name does translate to «Jean The French Fry» so this guy means business! The tables inside even have a special cut-out where their«fry cone» sits perfectly on the table while you dip away. This place is a small, but really nice, 3 flat screens, and owned by a newly relocated Belgium owner that makes all the grub, dipping sauces(try the abmbrosia and spicy samurai for the fries), and even homemade mayo, himself. They have other items from breakfast, Desserts,(Belgium Waffles & Crepes were delicious), to his version of burgers and other imported recipe concoctions that were unique indeed. The beer and wine selection is REALLY good as they showcase imports like Duvel, Chimay, and many others I couldnt pronounce. Did i menion beers were $ 6!!! Huge Meatball, French fries, and side salad was less than $ 7. Open 8am-2am, Its a great new option on the beach when you need a quick breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Or for the munchies after leaving Madonna’s across the street! i wasnt there, i swear!
