Food– too much pepper and not enough flavor. It could use some gravy. Lack of appetizer is a downer and food is pricey. Atmosphere– relaxed, could use some Caribbean music.

Holy delicious chicken curry roti. Hot pepper sauce is insanely delicious, and not for beginnings. Friendly family-run business, great for 11pm dinner. Good Trinidadian food!

The best and only Trinidadian restaurant Chokas in south beach. It was literally the first place I went to when I got to Miami, the waiter tarek and the rest of the Persad family were great to me. Original which makes it different. They’ve only been open for two months. Come get it it’s hot!!!

This is the second worst roti I’ve had in my life! OK I get it you’re located in South Beach and rent is higher than on the mainland(even though its a hole in the wall), but $ 13.99 for a chicken roti? Are you kidding me buddy? Worse they charged me $ 5 for a Trinidadian soda(angosutra lemon lime), the last time I paid $ 5 for a soda it was at a tourist trap at a Parisian café. OK so you’re going to rape me $ 13.99 for a roti that should cost $ 6.50 and $ 5 for a soda that should cost $ 1.50, but at least serve a good one pal. Oh no they can’t do that instead they served me a mildly spiced microwaved super soggy pile of crap! Are you kidding me? Look at this thing it’s disgusting, it looks like diarrhea bursting at the seams. Its a shame, the first caribbean restaurant to open in South Beach is a dud.

Really good food. We ordered the shrimp curry with rice and the beef curry with roti. Both were really good. It is a clean restaurant, the owner and his family were very welcoming. Overall the service was great. Nice instrumental music was playing in the background. P. S. It is very different from Indian food.

Excellent customer service. I enjoyed the oxtails. Very succulent and tender with great flavors. My friend had the jerk chicken and was not to happy, he was craving the traditional jerk flavors and he felt it tasted like bbq chicken and the meat was a bit tough. But I would definitely be back to try more of the other dishes.

Family owned business in South Beach, which is rare! Very nice family, service was really good. I had the jerk chicken with rice, beans and steamed cabbage. The chicken had so much flavor, it was phenomenal. A little bit spicy but not too much. The texture was nice and tender. I highly recommended this place to anyone in the South Beach area.

Roti was on point… Curry Chicken and the Chana lacked flavor, reminds me of a tourist version of Trini food, why are u making burritos out of your Roti? It gets super soggy and nasty by the time its delivered, wish they just made it the real normal way w everything seperate, bone in helps the flavor, needs more spice or ask customer how spicy(and I ordered it seperate then it came seperate but still with everything spilling inside onto my roti! was SOGGY!)

Well. If you want to save a flight to Trinidad for good roti — this is your place! Firstly… the family has the typical, sweet Trini charm. A nice welcome. But the Roti is as good, if not better, than my favorite places in Trinidad! The roti bake was fried perfectly and the curry was simply awesome! The chicken was so tender… my daughter and wife were loving it as much as I! As an 18 year Miami Beach resident. I am SO happy to not have to cross the bridge for roti anymore :)

We were walking around ocean drive on New Year’s Day and wanted to avoid the typical touristy restaurants. We took a detour and walked in Washington Avenue and found this place. To be precise the divine smell of their food lured us in. We were 4 hungry adults who wanted to eat good food with no nonsense. We were warmly welcomed by the owners of this place. I ordered for curry beef with rice and my husband ordered for jerk chicken with rice. The food reminded me of my childhood days when I used to go to a small village for a vacation where I used to eat simple but delicious homemade food. PS: the food is NOT Indian It has its own flavour and amazingly well made by the guys who own this place. It seemed to be a family run business hence the service was excellent. I would highly recommend this place to good food lovers who appreciate delicious, simple meal.

Best roti I’ve ever had! My hubby is Trini so we’re constantly looking for authentic cuisine-this restaurant is the real deal. After Mr Persad & my husband reminisced about Trinidad, we ordered curry chicken roti, beef roti, Peardrax, Mauby, with fried plantain on the house. Their friendly son served us with care. The homemade pepper sauce is flavorful &HOT! We purchased a jar to take home. Will return every time we’re in South Beach.

I was on vacation in Miami beach and did a search for trini food and choka’s came up and was within a mile of where we were staying so I decided to check it out. The Persad family is very humble and friendly. I tried the sampler buss up shut with curry chicken, beef and shrimp and have to say it was delicious. I felt like I was home eating my mother’s cooking. Very authentic, well seasoned and the homemade pepper sauce added the extra zest. I even went back a 2nd time while I was there and on that day Mr. Persad made homemade curry bodi and brought it out for us on the house. Keep up the great job guys.

Love this in our neighborhood. We needed some good home cooked family owned and operated food choices. I’ve had the curry chicken, curry chicken roti and the beef curry roti. Everything tastes so good. The owner«the dad» makes his own hot sauce as well. Everything is made with love and is very satisfying. Def recommend to others.
