I went to Kim’s Pizza many, many times in the late 1980s and into the late 1990s. My neighbor in Lawrence used to take us kids for slush, then other parents caught on and would take kids here and there at times. This was always a hangout for us kids in the 1980s and 1990s. We didn’t go a lot but when we did it was fun. My neighbor was good friends with John Huskey, the owner, and he’d take us kids there and we’d always get slush. At first, I’d always get lemon as a kid, then as time went on I’d try coconut, bubblegum, cherry, watermelon, and my personal favorite… ALMOND! I think I tried other flavors too over the years like orange, tuti fruity, and lemon lime but they were not as flavorful as those others I mentioned. John was always there in the 1980s and 1990s. He was around his 40s then, grey hair, not sure if he’s still working there, but he ran a really decent place. I’ve had several types of subs here. The best and only ones I’ve had were the steak and cheese, the steak bomb, and the RIB! Imgine, a year-round place that serves rib sandwiches, even better than McDonald’s! Always a great place to bring the kids. It’s the only slush place I know of in the area and it’s the BEST!

I’ve been to Kim’s Pizza & Subs a few times to grab quick lunches. The atmosphere inside is that of an old school neighborhood store. The place seems a bit cramped which has a takeout counter with overhead menu boards and couple booths for eating in. The glass cooler display case as some colorful Dora The Explorer and Sponge Bob décor on top. The menu offerings include pizza(by the slice or whole pie), hot & cold subs, steak subs, fried foods, meat and lamb pies, spinach pies, snacks, cold drinks, chilled candy bars($ 1), ice cream bars, and Armando’s Italian Ice Slush(over 40 flavors including sugar free flavors). The teaberry, passion fruit, birch beer, & blue Hawaiian sound interesting). They also have gumball dispensers too. The prices here are fair, most small & large subs($ 4.60-$ 7.00) and ice cream bars $ 1-$ 2. Specials are also offered including Buy One Get One Free Meatball Subs on my visits. The food has been consistent. The pizza slice is good, if you happen to enjoy a thick soft and firm crust and topped with ample sauce and melted cheese(clumps). The pizza slice(though not rectangular) sort of reminds me of Ellio’s Pizza which I really enjoyed as a youngin’. The steak & cheese sub is good, which is grilled to order using shaved steak, melted American cheese, on a crusty sub roll. The rib sub is similar to having the Mc Rib. The service here is good and laid back. I’ll have to try the steak teriyaki sub on the next visit. Note: No sampling here. Street parking can get a bit tight out front, especially being located next door to China Star II and Oscar Liquors across the street. 3.4 stars
