Perfect place if you’re looking for yummy tacos, nachos, and enchiladas. I come to this location about once a week and although the building is outdated, the parking lot sucks, and there isn’t a drive-thru(at this location) — it IS in a convenient location and the prices are beyond cheap(especially on Sundays, 99c tacos!). The tacos are always stuffed with meat, lettuce, cheese, etc. and the nacho cheese is authentic and delicious! If only they still had Choco Tacos, aah nostalgia!

This is my go to place for fast food tacos. I have to have it when I come into this area. I grew up with it when they had one on Elysian Fields. I now live across the lake, 45+ mins away. The have the best deluxe enchiladas ever. No one can compare. I wished I owned one of these restaurants. No frills. No nonsense tacos. You have to eat here and l leave the bells and whistles alone… lol

I unfortunately currently reside in the good food wasteland of Austin(don’t let all of the awful Austin Unilocalers, FoodSpotters, Hipsters and D’bags fool you) and Tex-Mex is about the only decent food available. We know that while New Orleans has lots of great food from many different cultures, Mexican(and/or Tex-Mex) is not one of them. That said, growing up I always loved Taco Tico. In my memory, they had the most unique and delicious ground beef taco meat. I’ve seen that they even brag about their taco meat seasoning in their ads and on their website(not a great website…). So when I’m in town and in Metry(or Kenna’ on the way to the airport) I try to remember to stop in for a taco. I went to this location on Vets the other night. I ordered 5 hard shell tacos and I think the bill came to less than $ 5. I knew I was either going to regret this or it would be as awesome as I remembered. The tacos were terrible. That delicious taco meat that I remembered was so horrible that I had to check it a few times to see if it was meat or if they had accidentally put bean paste on my tacos instead. I could only get through two tacos before having throw the bag away in disgust. I really want these to be as delicious as I remember so I might even give the Kenna’ location a try on my way out to the airport next time. Hopefully they will be the tacos of my memories. One last note: The last time I stopped in here they were running a huge promotion on their crispy flour taco shells instead of traditional crispy corn taco shells. I idiotically had my whole to-go order made with these flour shells instead of trying just one. I took one bite into the flour shell and almost threw up. That whole bag had to go immediately in the trash and I was too far to return.

super cheap, better than Taco Bell and you can get a giant bag full of tacos for like $ 10. It won’t beat a good Mexican restaurant, but if you are craving quick greasy fast food, it’s worth a shot.

You don’t go to Taco Tico looking for amazing gourmet food. This isn’t your typical Mexican restaurant. The food is cheap, especially 59 cent tacos on Sunday. You are getting exactly what you expect. The place is kind of a dive, but it is tasty and completely unhealthy. I go every few weeks to part take in the tacos. They offer a few unique spins on the classic taco stand, like the taco burger. I enjoy it, I usually get it to go, but they do have video poker and a juke box for those interested in dining in.

Its fast food without the«TUDE»! The employees are nice here every time I have been, extremely rare for any fast food anywhere even close to New Orleans. The food is really good too. I love the hot sauce bar, I really love the hot sauce bar. The only reason I wont give it more stars is the fact that you CANNOT eat here without being surrounded by children. For some reason it attracts the creeps that just refuse to take their brat out even after it has screamed for over 10 minutes. Seriously has a child infestation.

Terrible! I don’t know why I even tried again :(I essentially got served a fancy feast taco by quite possibly the epitome of what I hate about the younger generation. not to mention the tummyache.

I hadn’t eaten at a Taco Tico in years and just happen to spot this one while searching Unilocal! It’s everything I remembered and more! I had the mexican dinner… burrito, enchilada, beans, rice and chips & salsa. It was great! I could eat there a couple times a week. Their enchilada sauce is really good and they even have a salsa bar. 2 or 3 steps above Taco Bell.

The five starts is for the food. It is always spot on. I live on the North Shore now and do not get Taco Tico as much anymore so when I do I expect it to be perfect. It always is. The food is always consistent. The only thing I would improve is the damn parking lot and the overall appearance of the building. Maybe modernize it a little. It appears as the owners do not like spending money on the establishment. But the food is so good!

Taco Bell has nothing on Taco Tico. The Ticos scream«quaint» and«simple», but it’s just different than the usual fast food place. There isn’t much to say about it, except that everything is pretty typical of fast food Tex-Mex. There is a small sauce bar that really makes the package complete. The«hot» sauce is recommended more than the«mild» sauce, as it brings alot more flavor but not much fire(if that makes sense). Yes, this is what guilty pleasures are made of…

My four stars is in comparison with other fast food taco places round town. The main reason I love taco tico is for the memories(I used to go to the old one on Elysian Fields next to the Pitt Cinema — what a shame a Walgreens took it’s place — but they are taking over the world). Anyway, back to taco tico… I really love the sauce, the hot is my favorite, I think the sauce really makes it yummo! The taco shells are yummy, and I always have to get the taco burger — I love it! If you’re in the Metry area — pass up taco bell and go across the street — you’ll be glad you did!

Don’t lie to yourself and act like you are too good for the Tico. It reigns supreme when it comes to fast food Mexican joints. I would even go further and say I enjoy their food way more than most sit down Mexican places. Their enchilada sauce is just a dream come true. The décor and menu have not changed since 1980, and that is simply because once you reach perfection… there is no reason to change.

I compare this place to Taco Bell and like it so much more. I have been about 5 times and they have yet to screw up my order. There hard taco shells are really good and I like how they put jalapenos with the nachos. For fast food, it is pretty good and superior to Taco Bell. I tried their bean burrito once and did not particularly like it. The young girls working behind the counter can be a little annoying sometimes, though they are always friendly. Technically, it was one of the workers friends who ran up to the counter screaming that annoyed me. Overall, if you are looking for fast food Mexican, go to Taco Tico as opposed to the bell. It’s not great, but it’s better than their competition.

Ok… the last reviewer reminded me that I needed to do an update on this place. A few Sunday’s ago, I stopped by and got some tacos for the girly and a chicken taco salad for myself. The«chicken» in the chicken taco salad seemed to be carved out of a big block of «rendered chicken protein food»…you know the stuff? It’s like a partially solidified jello. I don’t know what the heck happened, but I’ll skip both Taco Hell and Taco Trichinosis, thankyouverymuch.

Ive been a fan since the 80s. I think thats the last time they decorated the place. I like the fact they have classic rock in their JUKEBOX. Flour tacos are unique and gooood just dont eat them while ur driving or u will have a taco salad in your lap(2 attempts) the deluxe enchilada and the flour tacos has been my order for 2 decades and it never lets me down. I like the taste of their meat and real chives

My son’s review. Me: «Do you like it?» Son: «I like the tacos,(then he looks around the eating area with a disgusted face) just not the place.» Then he mentions that its too quite and all you here is «ding, ding, ding, ding».(it’s the sound of the poker machines) We then both stared at the juke box. I wish I had some coins in my pocket. I like their hard taco shells way better then Taco Bell’s. Their mystery meat is a mystery like Taco Bell’s. Vegetarians might even be able to eat it. I’m sure there’s no meat, just fillers. Yet still edible.

Why I am reviewing a fast food joint is beyond me… lol. Video poker, beer and a juke box in here… PLUS good prices and fresh ingredients. The salsa bar is fun. Lots of choices. Fairly clean, for a fast food joint. WIN! And apparently they have 59 cent tacos on Sundays for you meat eaters. Get you some ;)))
