Its hard to get here and hard to order and hard to like the overly herbed sides, but the sandwiches are good. The layout is confusing especially because of how you enter from the parking lot. More on that below. If you come in throw the«front» door you would be right there at the counter. In through the«back» door(which is really the main entrance) we were behind people who appeared to be in line. But others came in the other door and cut. It was really crowded. People really like this place. Get there well before noon. The Reuben is not the best in Idaho as advertised. Maybe Buddy from Elf would be impressed. First points off: not marble rye. Nicely toasted/grilled which helps combat the too juicy kraut. I recommend that they shake off the excess pickle juice before applying. The corned beef was good. Dressing good too. PB&J is grilled. There’s a slice of bread in between the two normal outer layers of bread. Sourdough probably wasn’t the best choice. Maybe wheat would be better. The jelly was not that great. Potato salad was way overloaded with herbs. Thyme and oregano maybe. Jalapeño potato bacon cheddar soup was also too overwhelmed with herbs and smoke flavor. Kinda gave me a headache. Parking is a little bit of a challenge. The design of the parking lot is odd. Google maps doesn’t route you to the entrance of the parking lot. Maybe the designers were thinking of a future were there’s more pedestrian and bike traffic.

This place is the best! The food is outstanding and you get what you pay for. It’s small, so depending on the time you arrive, you may not be able to get a table. The staff is fun and the owner is a card when you get to know him. If you don’t see what you want on the menu, just ask. If you’re feeling adventurous, try the«Surprise me.» My husband has never been disappointed. The clam chowder on Fridays is really good. If you haven’t tried it before, then you should. I hope they move into a larger location soon.

Fat Guys missed out tonight. My wife and I had a craving for a sandwich and soup, so we thought FGD would be a good option. Well, prior to driving down over I figured I would call and ask about their soup of the day. A young man answered the phone so fast that he sounded like an auctioneer, but I did decipher it as basically«hold please.» I patiently waited on hold for ten minutes. My patience ran out so I hung up and re-dialed, but this time they didn’t answer. As I stated earlier, we wanted a sandwich and soup, so we went to another location off Eagle Road… I must add this place was pretty good. Now the only thing I need to decide is whether I will give FGD another shot — we will see.

Some of the food was ok, but some of it was really disgusting, including the soup, which was overloaded with all the wrong herbs.

Now THIS is how you do a sandwich shop. Holy crap, great menu, decent location, good setting, good fountain(Coke Zero), friendly staff… all the components are here. ESPN on the tv and a kinda serious/kinda not mutual animosity, let’s call it spiciness or go one better and call it sauciness, and deep respect among the staff… classic. It just adds to the ambiance. Everything is made fresh and in-house and it counts. If this was in Salt Lake, I’d probably live there and watching the stream of regulars, it seems a lot of people have already picked up on this. The sandwiches are money, so f*cking money. I think you would have to intentionally try to pick anything average and even then, I’m not sure you could. You definitely can’t get anything outright bad. This is really sort of the ultimate lunch spot. Right size, right price, awesome, awesome taste, flavor and design. It just doesn’t get any better than this for sandwiches and maybe not even for lunches in general. As a side note, parking is kind of a pain and it’s pretty cramped inside, maybe up to a couple dozen people inside at any one time… word to the wise… it is definitely worth braving those hazards, however…

I am writing this review at 4:39PM because my family went to Fat Guy’s in hopes of securing some sandwiches for dinner only to find out the staff decided to close early, even with us unloading in the parking lot. It’s especially frustrating since we arrived at 4:30 and the close at 5. I was told the place had great sandwiches but I’m content to go to Rudy’s where the service is always outstanding.

Wow. Excellent customer service, great food! I am impressed!!! Huge sandwiches, great bread. Def recommended. I got a vegetarian sandwich built special today– and next time I’m traveling back through Boise, we know where to go.

My brother and I were hanging out and he suggested we go to Fat Guy’s for dinner. Initially I was a little hesitant(see previous review), but when the words«my treat» were uttered, I couldn’t say no. I am so glad that«free» is music to my ears, because the sandwich this time around was way better than before. I listened to my own advice — different bread(wheat), ask for extra spreads, chips as a side and oh my gosh — it was such a delicious sandwich! The girl at the counter also asked me if I wanted my sandwich heated up and I went for it — the extra crunch was nice and the melted cheese helped keep the sandwich a little more together(although I still did end up making a big mess… thank goodness for to-go!). After this experience, I would definitely come back(even if I had to pay ^_^) as the sandwich and chips were able to easily make two filling meals, and tasty ones at that.

If you thought the name of this sandwich shop was Two Fat Guys Deli, your memory is not failing. It was called that for a time, but the Two Guys had a falling out, one departed and instead of two Guys plural it is now Guy’s possessive in the name. It was the cook guy who remained here and the sandwiches by any name for the shop are just as good. FOOD: We order what is not on the big chalkboard menu and that is a veggie sandwich. It seems veggie options are less popular in the Boise area than in our former home towns and we will travel to find good ones, like the veggie sandwich here. This is a completely ‘build your own’ endeavor for the veggie option and they have a veritable plethora of veggie ingredients from which to choose from the standard lettuce, tomatoes, onions and avocado to jalapenos and pepperoncini and bell pepper slices and kalamata olives and… well…as you can see. potential abounds. They have rye bread too, real rye, which is a big plus. Horsradish too. We think sharing is key since it is such a big sandwich. At about $ 9 to for a sandwich big enough feed two people it seems a very good value to us. You will get to choose a side with your sandwich, one of which is coleslaw. Just a heads up that it is really more of a coarse grated, oil and vinegar dressed cabbage salad than a more traditional styled slaw. We think it makes a good sandwich ingredient. Homemade soup is in the house too and on most Mondays they do Manhattan clam chowder. That soup is one of my husband’s favorites but if he could wave a magic wand over the pot here, he’d have them reduce the salt by a good amount. SERVICE: Very nice folks behind the counter. Top notch for friendliness and sandwich making skills! VIBE: A bunch of tables line the wall of windows. Not the grandest of ambiance but you don’t eat the vibe. Outdoor seating at tables on the patio /sidwalk but they can be hot even in the not hottest of months. So can the inside at times. Just a tip about that since ordering to go option is also a good one at times. THIS N THAT: PARKING: In the private lot associated with the little strip mall where this is located. ACCESSIBILITY: Lot has accessible parking spot. Level in the door. Most seating is standard height although quarters can be tight at full house times. Loo is accessible.

In the words of my husband… «This is waaaaay better than Jimmy Johns!!» And that’s saying a lot. He’s a big fan of The Italian #6. I ordered the California Turkey Club #2 and it was so big I could only eat half(my husband enjoyed the other half for dinner). I usually don’t order sandwiches with bacon; however, I was pleasantly surprised with the well done bacon on my sandwich and it was delicious! I also made a couple tweaks to the original sandwich and I highly recommend the pesto mayo. We called in our order and it was ready when I got there. The staff was extremely polite and helpful and they got me out the door quickly. Next time we will dine in… It was very clean and you get unlimited drinks while you’re there.

Every now and again you run across a great proprietor running a great business offering superlative quality and value. Such was my experience today at Fat Guys! I needed a platter of sandwiches for 1215-year-old female soccer stars from Utah. This place nailed it! Each came with a side of potato salad or cole slaw. I augmented with chips and water. Sandwiches were large, Marge, quality was top shelf, service impeccable and the price was right! My only regret was not being able to try one of the signature sandwiches from the menu. Why would a Subway even bother? Give it up, you’ve lost! There ought to be a law against that garbage! Thank you, Fat Guys!

Hubby had a Reuben which he enjoyed a lot. I had Calif BLT. Very good. Ate half and saved the other half for the next day. Loved the roll it was made on. Parking was an issue since there is a dance school near by.

I enjoyed my experience at Fat Guy’s Fresh Deli from beginning to end. Upon entrance, we were immediately greeted and made acquainted with the menu. Their menu includes a variety of sandwiches, wraps(in addition to the wraps they have listed on the menu – they can also wrap any sandwich listed), salads, and daily soups. I ordered their tuna melt with chips for my side. The tuna was white albacore, herbed, and delicious. My dining companion ordered their Asian Chicken wrap which was huge! The service was beyond friendly. Our sandwiches took a bit – but precisely what I would expect for sandwiches so wonderfully prepared. I live in north Boise and would absolutely make the drive for their sandwiches. They are serving up some of the best deli sandwiches in the Treasure Valley.

Finally, a deli that can satisfy my wife’s craving for a veggie sandwich. She has never really been able to enjoy one, until now. I think it’s maybe the best sandwich she’s ever had, but she wasn’t totally sure. Her only complaint was that the sourdough could have been more sour. I got the silver duck and it easily slid into my top five sandwiches of all time. This is the best sandwich shop I’ve ever encountered in Idaho, at least for traditional sandwiches. Bleubird is still up there, but their’s are more experimental. I am so happy that Fat Guy’s at least stacks up the meat, since most places commit the sin of understacking the meat, like that time Great Harvest gave me one slice of pastrami on a reuben… EATATFATGUY’S ANDBECOMEONEYOURSELF. IT’S WORTHIT.

How do I describe a sandwich from Fat Guys Fresh Deli? The same way I would describe Van Gogh’s art work or a symphony by Beethoven, a masterpiece. Wally is a true sandwich artist. You can see and taste in his food the love and pride he takes in creating his works of art. He makes almost everything in his shop from scratch. His bread is made from his recipes, by the best bakery in Idaho-zeppole. When you talk to him and see him make your food you can truly see how much he cares about what he serves his customers. So I guess I should tell you about my first visit. When I first opened the door my nose was captivated by the delicious smell of bacon. As I walked into the place the owner greeted my girlfriend and I and took the time to explain and make recommendations about his food. I decided to try the Italian, which was awesome. Ham, pastrami, capicola, salami and I had bacon added. My girlfriend had the Bronco blue which she really enjoyed, but it didn’t stop her from taking bites from mine. We both enjoyed the Italian so much that we stopped in the next day and ordered another to share. Did I mention that his clam chowder is da bomb diggity? Seasoned to perfection, his chowder is amazing. Basically it comes down to this, if you want a cheap sandwich go to subway, were they will make you a sandwich with everything pre cut and 4 or 5 thinly sliced meat slices or you can treat your taste buds to the best sandwich you have ever had.

A much needed change of pace from the national chain restaurants, this was a terrific choice for lunch. Looking at my GPS, Fat Guy’s was a short walk from my hotel since I was staying on Eagle Road and Overland — it’s refreshing to walk five minutes from either the Courtyard or TownPlace — makes you feel like a local in Meridian heading out to eat. If you don’t want to take the walk, drive over and park around back — there’s plenty of spaces for your vehicle and you’re welcome to use the back door. Keep in mind that it’s a healthy idea to walk off some of those calories on the walk back after lunch. I’m pushing the walk aspect. My initial expectation was to eat lunch at a sit-down restaurant but this is a «quick serve» format restaurant where you order and pay for your meal at the counter, and when your sandwich is ready, the server brings your sandwich to the table. For beverages, you serve yourself from the fountain machine. That’s OK, you can make the drink the way you want it and get refills when you need them. The fruit infused ice tea was outstanding. Keep in mind that with the quick serve restaurant format, most people don’t tip the server, so that saves you 15% to 20% of the total cost of the meal when compared to sit-down meal service. All the sandwiches looked delicious. The food was fresh and the portion size was generous, My choice was difficult but decided to place an order for the French dip with home-made slaw. The sandwich had soft roll, and the meat was properly cooked, not overdone like many French dips. When combined with the Au Jus, it was a perfect combination. Devoured the whole thing like a starving wolf. Fat Guys can expect me to join them for lunch again on my next visit to Meridian. Salute!

Fat Guys is really for a Fat appetite. One sandwich is good enough for two people. You have been warned. Proceed how you wish. I ordered the Italian, and was able to eat only half. Their main loaf bread is almost overpowering and very filling. Don’t get me wrong. I’m a big sandwich person. I love deli meat, cold veggies, a slap of mayo and mustard all smack dab in some good warm bread. I think if Fat Guys can get the bread down to a perfect-T, I would eat here all of the time. This place definitely beats the neighborhood Subway, so spend the extra dollar and go to Fat Guys. Your belly might hate you after but you will enjoy every bite.

Solid lunch option. Prices are reasonable, and there’s an excellent selection. Since it was my first visit, I tested the menu with a mixed Italian sandwich(#6). It was quite good; good-quality meats, enormous portion(could’ve easily split it with my wife), and generally well-put-together. One issue though… it contained *pastrami*, which is, in no way, shape, or form, an Italian meat. The chef needs to amend this menu item and make it properly, with salami, mortadella, and capicolla. The sandwich also came with some pretty good potato salad(included bacon… nice add!) or I could’ve had chips. The staff was polite and hustled; it took a little while for my sandwich, but they had just been slammed with a call-in order. I’ll be back. It’s worth going.
