Stop in sporadically for a beer or two depending who’s working, have a good amount of nice people working but unfortunately it doesn’t override that rude Stephanie(thank god for hoozetending app so can avoid). I’ve never eaten here though I hear the food is generally good, if you’ve ever looked very close the place isn’t the cleanest from the always nasty men’s room(even at opening) to the lights directly over the bar and just in general so I can’t imagine the kitchen being much different. The latest«upgrade» to the bar has been to send out the old Bevador beer cooler to be repaired. Has a nice new paint job and the spinning shelves inside are now in working order but unfortunately the thing still doesn’t keep beer cold! While I realize this is a classic old fixture for the place, everyone would have been better served if it had been moved to a prominent place in the back restaurant and replaced with a quality beer cooler for the customers, might even attract some of the old ones back if they knew the beer was going to be cold without calling ahead to have some iced. So take this rant for what it’s worth to you as I’ll still stop in from time to time for a cold one, and yes I call ahead in order to make sure…

If you told me on Friday that on Saturday I would eat dinner at the Cottage Hotel and it would be excellent I’d call you crazy. I’ve been to this place for cocktails a dozen times over the last 25 or 30 years but never even considered eating here. We were at Nedlo Brewery for a flight and some popcorn and then cruised to the Cottage for some food because we heard they were having a beer pairing. Well there was no beer pairing but we were all hungry and were seated in a couple of minutes. They had two specials, one was prime rib which they ended up being out of. The second was a spicy shrimp and haddock creole dish served over rice and arugula. Three out of four of us ordered the creole dish and we absolutely loved it. I was not expecting this dish or any dish at this place to be so good. The 4th person ordered the chicken sandwich with the Caged Alpha Monkey sauce and she said it was excellent. I also had a cup of Manhattan Clam Chowder and it was fantastic. I hope this is par for the course because i’m looking forward to dining here again. the service was fantastic and the live music was very good.

This is my type of place, casual(but fun) atmosphere, great food, fair prices, great staff. If I lived in the area it would be a regular stop for me. I will be back!

Though the interior is nothing to write home about, this place used to be a solid bet for a good gastropub-esque meal. However, last time we visited was an absolute mess. Though the food was delicious as usual, nothing else went right. Waitress did not know the answers to simple menu questions and never mentioned the specials. Took over 20 minutes to get drink orders to us even though it wasn’t especially crowded. The food didn’t all come out at the same time; most of the table received their meal, but waited awkwardly for several minutes for those who didn’t receive their food to receive it. When everyone finally had their food we began eating but slowly discovered that components of people’s orders had been switched– for instance, a specialty cheese that should have been on someone’s sandwich somehow instead had landed all over someone else’s salad. Waitress never came back to see if we wanted drink refills or dessert, which was probably for the best because they likely would have been screwed up or taken forever anyway. When we got the bill, unsurprisingly, there was a small upcharge for an item that nobody had ordered. At this point we just wanted to leave and it was only a dollar or so, so we just paid it and left. After this experience, it will probably be a long while before we’re back. Which is a shame because the food is good. Not worth the frustration, though.

Had dinner here a couple nights ago — food and service were good but the experience was marred by an extremely loud hard rock band playing in the dining room. I ordered a special — goat and lamb stew served in a bread bowl. Nice big chunks of meat in a thick gravy with carrots and potatoes — very good seasoning — and it seemed like the crusty bread was fresh baked. It came with a side salad, which was a nice size. Overall, a good amount of food and good value at $ 14. In general, The Cottage has good service and they work with local farms to serve local meat and veg. The owners are good people too — this night there was also some kind of fundraiser going on and the entire bar area was packed. The only downside was the extremely loud music. Upon talking to a waitress we learned this was a replacement band brought in at the last minute to fill a music gap and it was unexpected that they were hard rock. I would recommend, as they have a nice variety on their menu, and much of it is local; one tip — parking can be a challenge, so either get there early or be patient as you drive around looking for a spot!

We have been coming here for years. With the newer ownership it seems that if you aren’t a regular that comes in daily, you get ignored. Recently I came in for lunch around 12:30. Granted, it was lunch time but not all that busy. I stood at the doorway waiting to be seated for 15 minutes when my friend arrived and we stood 10 more minutes. It was the owner who barely acknowledged my standing there and another young woman waiting tables. A large table of 5 men obviously got sick of waiting for their order to be taken. They got up and waited at the bar to tell them they were leaving but again no one acknowledged them so they walked out. Meanwhile after standing at the door almost 25 minutes, my friend and I left. It is not the first time this has happened either. We sat one time for over 30 minutes for our food to come out. Our medium rare burgers were charred and unedible. Come on! At least come up to your customer and let them know how long a wait they can expect.(By the way, there were open tables where we could have been seated.) Acknowledge and make them feel welcomed don’t ignore them and leave them wondering if they are invisible. After awhile we just stood there to see how long it would take the owner to talk to us. But that never happened. Good way to lose business. I like their food when I don’t have to wait 30 minutes for it. But it isn’t worth that type of unfriendly environment. We are locals and although convenient we will choose another establishment where they value their customers and at least explain the delay. Either hire more help or shut your doors. You aren’t all that great. Two reluctant stars because we have had enjoyable meals there in the distant past.

Great local bar, good selection of local/regional beers on tap. Came Thanksgiving Day, heard some good live music and watched some football.

I am so seriously disappointed We are frequent patrons of this place and love the food and beer selection. This is the first time we have ordered take out and were tremendously upset . My husband stopped to pick up the meal. He paid cash They were missing two salads I called and they said it was correct and they were negligent and admitted to overcharging for what we didn’t receive We went back to pick up the salads and were not offered even a token for a drink I am a small business owner and I cannot imagine treating customers this way.

The bartender, Stephanie, was rude and dismissive, as well as very slow and she shorted my drink. She also upcharged me for side sauces with my burger, which do not count for upcharge. My burger was too raw and lukewarm, and the dishes it was served on were dirty. This place is– excuse my language– a sh*thole. Service is beyond terrible, the food is awful, and the manager clearly does not know how to run a business or hire worthwhile employees. I highly recommend ANY other restaurant in mendon besides this one! I am appauled by the service here, and I would be surprised if they ever truly passed health inspection. Disgusting. DONOTEATHERE!!!, save your money and your time!!!

I come here before or after I play golf quite a bit. The food is plentiful and amazing. The majority of the ingredients are sourced from local farms, and the more exotic proteins are from various other reputable locations. Give the house brew a try, it’s a winner.

$ 14 for a Titos vodka and cranberry with two measured shots. Ripoff. Even the bartender is embarrassed. Furious to be fleeced like that, not even top shelf. DONE

Came here hungry after a long run… good live music, good beer, popcorn, and satisfying food. Granted everything was burnt(black you could see) but the insides were good. Had the pesto bread which was super yummy, wings, Mac salad all good. Pulled pork nachos hadn’t pulled pork but ground meat, cheese completely burnt. Burgers were decent.

Out of most beers, powdered sugar on sampler basket gross, for some reason long time for food to come to table. No attention at bar tables, given 1 menu for 5 people, sat selves at table waited an hour n 15 min till food came. Portions were large.

Had a lazy lunch late at a spot off the beaten path in Mendon. People refer to it as the Cottage Hotel. This was my first experience there. If you don’t look hard, you’ll likely miss it on hwy 64. There was one bartender who took care of drinks, serving, and everything else out front. Locals were at the bar. There are a few TVs scattered around which were good for following the PGA Championship. I ordered the basic hamburger with swiss chess and homemade chips. To say the burger was plentiful would be a mild understatement. It had to weigh a pound before cooking. It was was cooked medium as ordered and the chips were crispy and tasty. While only one server was there, he proved to be proficient at multi-tacking. Service was very very good. The burger, which I don’t eat too often, well met my expectations. I’ll be returning.
