Great steak, great service, even convinced me to try some broccoli type vegetable that was delicious!

Been here several times, the menu is big and varied, food is fresh and interesting, a lot of stuff is locally sourced. Good options for both tapas-style ordering and entrees. A bit more casual than Salt. Like my review of Salt though, consider getting rid of the clipboards for paying the bill– looks tacky!

Our experience on a business trip was phenomenal! I’ve never been to a restaurant where the server offers variations to the menu before asking. As a pescatarian I thoroughly enjoyed how courteous and accommodating the staff was. We love Sarah and will be back next time we visit for business!!!

Food is incredibly salty — even my beer had SOMUCHSALT on the rim… — which is actually Ironic because their sister restaurant is called SALT(Haha). Service was mediocre. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Bummer.

came here, because i saw a picture of that flat bread with the cheese and meat on it and i just knew i had to come. boy was i disappointed started off with the happy hour drinks sangria 2÷5− watered down, and i’m pretty sensitive to alcohol flavors… we sent it back white wine cocktail 2÷5− nothing spectacular. ended up keeping this one forgot the name. but had a wine and was sparkling… NOT impressed with the drinks. everything we tried just tasted very watered down and over priced a 5 dollars a glass… keep in mind the glasses were filled less than half way flatbread with mozarella and prosciutto 2⁄5 the big moment came. and i was not impressed. In the picture, the flat bread is just covered end to end with cured meats and slathered with melty cheese. What arrived on my table was just a sad, sparse looking flatbread and I ate it with sore disappointment calamari 3⁄5 not a huge calamari fan, but whatever… deep fried, served with marina sauce. They give you the more meaty body pieces, and not the rinky dinky tentacles and quarter sized pieces most restaurants serve sweet potato fries 3⁄5 thinly sliced and fried up. Great just to snack on while having conversations. It was kind of pricey, around 7 dollars from what i remember. overall, spent about 60 dollars with tip for two people for some watered down drinks and unsatisfying appetizers foods.

The pork burger was probably the best burger I’ve ever had. The portion, for my entre, at least, was huge. I also had the s’more chocolate mousse and I don’t think it’ll ever be surpassed. Waitstaff was the friendliest I’ve ever encountered. I know this review seems exaggerated but no, really I’m not. Also was pleased to see such a large and diverse wine and beer menu. The décor and place settings are stylish but not pretentious. I really like the vibe of this place. Would definitely go back.

This place is a Foodies paradise… Whatever you order expect it to be exceptional. The owner of this restaurant, his lovely wife and his crew always exceed your expectations. In fact they try to anticipate your your thoughts before you even have them… Your water glass is never empty and the suggestions are worth listening to. I eat there at least four times each week. And they can customize anything you want to precisely the way you like it. It’s like being on a television program. This place deserves Michelin stars.

If you are looking for a menu with their staple menu items and that still makes room to include seasonal“Farm-to-Table” additions, I would head to House Wine & Bistro. Their dishes include a lot of locally-grown produce. With our RGV climate, the farms in the area have fresh and delicious produce to offer and it comes through in plenty of their dishes. For appetizers I recommend mussels, grilled panel, garlic lime shrimp, baked brie or their meat and cheese plate.(I lean toward seafood and veggie options!) If I am there for a lighter lunch, I order the yahweh salad with grilled salmon or tuna and if I am lucky they have their butternut squash soup on the menu, my favorite and seasonal. Their flatbreads are crispy and toppings fresh. Their dishes I have tried too may to count and cannot choose a favorite. So my advice, go more than once and try it all! They have a wonderful wine selection and their staff is knowledgeable when it comes to pairings. They have wine cocktails if thats your jam or you can order a beer, they have a decent selection of bottled beer as well.

Super delicious. Stopped by while in town for work. Service was great and the staff was very friendly. My food came quickly even though they had a very large party for dinner. I had the garlic lime shrimp. Yum. Yum. Yum. No other way to describe it. Shrimp was cooked perfectly and the garlic lime sauce was SO flavorful. I would definitely order it again. Also had the Bee Sting Flatbread. Also crazy delicious. Loved he crispy crust and spicy honey. I definitely plan to make a repeat visit next time I’m in town.

I went here for a birthday party on a Monday and the service was great. If anything my only suggestion would be to not keeping mentioning that the closing time is in an hour. I felt a bit rushed and its something you don’t want to hear while your eating. Other than this small issue the server was very attentive and constantly checked on the table to make sure no one needed anything. Food: The Carbonada pasta was good but my expectations were a bit higher for the price I was paying. The«Strawberry Cheesecake was a whole other story because it was Delicious! I truthfully am not a big wine drinker so I can speak in that regards but the restaurant sure makes for a great environment to relax and have a drink.

Since my last review in 2013, I’ve been to this restaurant more than I can count. I think I’ve tried everything on the menu by now, just not the pork plates(not a fan of pork) and let me tell you I always leave with a smile and a happy belly :) Love the ambience and feel of this restaurant, it’s very warm and cozy yet very modern, and the staff is extremely attentive and friendly. My dish of choice is the mushroom risotto with truffle oil topped with a medium-well cooked salmon, accompanied by a bottle of red wine, and the s’more for dessert. One thing that needs improvement is more veggie options for the steak, every time I order it they only have broccolini.

Great place with a lot of interesting choices on the menu. The pork burger is an interesting choice for something different. Farm to table so fresh stuff! Nice wine selection and overall fun vibe

Okay… I rely on Unilocal ALL of the time… and it’s rare that I ever give back. I’m visiting McAllen from Southern California. I saw the reviews on this place and I decided to try it. The place doesn’t look like much from the street… but WOW… what a great experience! I sat at the bar. Immediately I was impressed with the bartender’s(Michelle) knowledge of wine.(I live a few minutes away from 50 plus wineries, and… wine is what I do in my spare time.) I ordered the Trouble Maker red blend(very much like a GSM… and delicious!). Then I had the side house salad with the McAllen Rib Eye(cooked to perfection, medium rare!) with asparagus(perfectly cooked!). The cut and temperature of the steak was perfect, and it was seasoned just right! The asparagus was perfectly prepared with olive oil and thinly sliced garlic. For dessert I had the apple pie. Oh. My. GOSH! Just order it!!! Finally, Michelle talked me into the 20 year old port… yum!!! McAllen… you are fortunate to have this restaurant! I get annoyed when a reviewer says that they’ve been to NYC or Paris or wherever, and blah blah blah. I’ve been a professional pilot for 25 years and I’ve been everywhere too. I’m telling you this is a GREAT establishment! Great service, great food, and well managed! The owner was there on the premises(her husband was at their other restaurant) and I think that is the key. This place is WELL managed! Keep up the good work!

This has to be one of the coolest places to dine in. This place gets all their veggies from an organic farm in Harlingen where we also happen to get our veggies from every week. They also have grass fed beef options for fellow food conscious people. The service was great and everyone was so sweet. We will definitely come again. :)

OK first let me start by saying I’ve been in the valley for 25 days. I’ve eaten out10 times. And my meal here at the house wine and bistro is head and shoulders by far the best dining experience that I’ve had. From the fun trendy Hip Decour to the relaxed professional attentive service. Not to mention the inventive chef creations. I judge a very good restaurant by the strength of its dessert menu. Because many good restaurants have a week dessert menu however most great restaurants have a strong dessert menu. Let me just say this is a great restaurant. It has everything you desire in a fine dining experience without a very high-price tag. I selected the pork burger because it was an unusual menu item sounded flavorful, it at caramelized onions and green apples with they garlic a only sauce it had cheese and bacon and a very good posted done. They serve shoestring fries which are sweet potato and Idaho russet potato mix, with Parmesan cheese and seasoning very delicious. $ 15 I added a Caesar salad for five dollars and selected a Malbeck wine for eight dollars per glass. I also elected the in-house chef made ice cream I asked for three scoops one of each type of ice cream. Evening I was there they were serving the vanilla bean, strawberry, and cheddar cheese ice cream four dollars ;total $ 32

House Wine never disappoints. This time I sat at the bar and enjoyed some Artisan Meat and Cheese followed up by some PEI(Prince Edward Island) mussels. The mussels were fresh and tasted like they were right from the ocean. The service was on point and never left me wanting more.

Can never go wrong here. Love the attentive staff and customer service. Our waitress definitely recommended an excellent bottle of wine for our meal and shared other recommendations on wine for other occasions. Both my colleague and I wanted different kinds of Risotto and they were accommodating enough to half both entrées so that we could try both the Putanesca and the Saffron. Both were savory and delicious in their own right. We paired it with the Saldo Zinfandel and it was a wonderful meal. Love coming here anytime I am in the area.

Great find– thx to previous reviews, I ate here on a business trip. Service was good & staff very friendly. The manager made a point to greet & welcome everyone. The food was outstanding. I had the chilli lime shrimp & the prosciutto flat bread. Both were made with very fresh ingredients & the portions were generous. My waiter told me that 80% of their ingredients are locally sourced. The wine list is extensive– I had s very nice Malbec. Will most definitely return.

Melissa was awesome! Best food in the valley! I was visiting from out of town and my cousin took me to this beautiful place! The ambience was very relaxing and chic. We ordered a ton of food and really indulged. The grilled shrimp appetizers are a MUST and the McAllen burger!!! Amazing! Can’t wait to come back and try more. They have a sister upscale restaurant called salt that I have bookmarked to try next. Last but not least their homemade ice cream is to die for.
