I’ve been going for over 30 years. It was a summers staple with my family when I was young– and I still swing by at least once a season now. The frosty mug of repot beer is a must– of course. The classic hot dogs can’t be beat– I think the buns really make them what they are. The onions rings are top notch– the onions are sweet and nice and soft. The new«fat» sandwiches are a nice addition to the classic menu. We got the Stewart’s Belly Buster– a chew steak with mozzarella sticks, fries and chicken fingers– it’s a BIG sand which so I suggest splitting it with someone and still getting a hot dog on the side :-)

My wife and I love going there and sitting outside on a cool sunny day. The charm I feel is that most of the building is original from the 1950’s along with some of the round tables which appear to be vintage. Obviously we get those large chilled mugs of root beer. On a recent Friday evening we both got a pair 1⁄3 pound California cheese bugers which were delicious along with chili fries and jalapeño poppers. Food and service awesome. It was obvious that the servers were genuinely wanted to please and not rush you. Watching several antique cars cruise by on route 34 only added to the charm. Luv this place.

Turkey club was a joke. Turkey was awful & a small regular sandwich not a club. Italian hit dogs are awful. Potatoes are too soggy and wet. Went there 3 times and will not go back again. Oh and French fries with brown gravy is too wet. Ask for the gravy on the side then they are good.

If you are looking for fried, cheesy, delicious comfort food, this is the place. Whenever I want junk food, I immediately think of this Stewarts location. I usually get the chili cheese fries, chicken tenders, and I tried the jalapeño poppers which are awesome. Some people complain about waiting, but this place is NOT a typical fast food place, everything is made fresh. Love the atmosphere, and the women who run this place are unbelievably nice.

Well this place USE to be legendary for flavor no matter what you ordered. But ever since new ownership, prices increased and flavor decreased. Won’t be coming here anymore :-(

Its your typical burger joint. I like that you can eat outside on the tables in the summer, or choose to have a carhop come and bring your food. It’s a local joint. Don’t come here expecting anything fabulous. It’s a great stop to grab a quick bite.

I will go 4 stars. 2 for bringing back memories of my youth going to a Stewart’s with my Dad and older brother. I came here earlier right before closing on a Sunday night. The wife and I split a California burger, cheese fries and if you go to Stewart’s you have to have the root beer float. This is cheap comfort food and our order came out pretty quickly. They have tables outside which would be nice on a sunny afternoon and a small counter with approximately 10 to 12 stools inside. Our waitress was very outgoing and friendly even though it was 30 minutes to closing. Would definitely try to come back when going down the shore next Summer.

Noisy location but when you’re in the mood for fast burgers and hotdogs it’s a good classic choice.

Drove few miles on the way home to NY after Zoe tanning at the beach with my BFF. This place is awesome. Root beer floats the best. The hot dogs kinda little but salty. Onion rings are huge and tasty! The staff besides being pretty are great! Will drive down again…

Dropped by after fun time at the beach. Nice outdoor sitting area and also can order from the car. Menus are simple with various hotdogs and burgers. Staffs are very friendly. Order came out fast, hotdog was bit salty for my taste. But I enjoyed!

What a surprise this was! Ended up here because the Cheese steak place we were going to closed down. This was right down the road so we pulled in starving. Car hop service was cool. Waitress was very helpful and friendly. Everything we had was good. Cheese steak, burger, fries, fried pickles. This was the best Stewarts we’ve ever had!!! We will be back!!!

okay for hot dogs and root beer. the food selection is very basic. They should upgrade the quality of their ingredients. Service can be a bit slow for a hot dog stand. its décor bring out a bit of nostalgia. It looks like its straight from the 70s but it is clean.

Burger, fries, and a root beer float. Classic summer fare. I’ve been to the one at Pier Village and that tops every other Stewart’s because of the sea breeze that floats into the shop. It’s like if you could only experience one thing about New Jersey, that would be it.

The only thing I like in this place is the root beer and onion rings. Everything else is mediocre. Sorry Stewarts! Unless you think of a new type of food that will blow me away, its the only way ill give you a 4 star!

I have drove by Stewart’s Root Beer in Matawan hundreds of times but I have never stopped there. I am not sure why because I am certain that I have made a mental note to go there every time I drive by. It might just be the location on a road that runs parallel to the main business strip in Matawan — Aberdeen. I have stopped at other Stewart’s and I have been disappointed but not this one. It still has car hop service and since the weather is nice there are 4 tables in front to sit and eat. I got a jumbo Italian Hotdog and a root beer and it came to under $ 6. At first I was thinking I needed to order fries but the hotdog was stuffed with potatoes that it would have been a waste. Next time I am going to make sure I get one of the floats and try the spicy fries. Now I have alternative to the Wind Mill.

I love, love, LOVE this place. These guys rock. The philly cheesesteaks are great, cali burgers are fantastic, the milkshakes are delicious, and the root beer is, of course, awesome. And Cheap! No complaints!

Surprisingly good food that is clearly a cut above typical fast food. Recently had a califorina cheeseburger with onion rings and a mug of diet root beer. The burger actually tasted like a burger. The lettuce, tomato and onion were all very fresh as was the bun. Really hit the spot. Note that it is seasonal, closed for several winter mos. I saw milkshakes being made and they looked very authentic. Enjoy
