MJ’s Pizza Bar & Grill

Was there on a Thursday night the bartenders girl with the red hair and the big guy were the rudest bartenders I’ve ever experienced. They hardly asked us if we needed anything and we would have to shout across the bar to finally get someone’s attention. They both have no idea what they were doing and just stayed to a select employee crowd. Not happy with my experience I will not return again on a Thursday night. And I am also a regular customer.

My husband and I like to come here because the food is always excellent. We were excited to come eat here yesterday and came and sat at the bar. The bar was pretty empty, besides us there were 3 people on the other side of the bar, and there were two bar tenders working… But we sat there with closed menus with no one asking for our order, and empty beer glass without asking if we needed a refill for at least 10 – 15 minutes, I noticed the one bartender left the bar for 10 minutes and when she came back completely ignored us, as a past worker in the food and bar industry, that really upsets me, because I know even if you need to take a break before you walk away and as soon as you get back you should always check that your costumes need are being fulfilled. We honestly love the food here, but we walked out yesterday, and I can’t say that it’s the first time. Bad service ruins this place.

Great specials and food is great… wide variety of beers on tap… however if you are looking for specials on food and beer… know what specials they offer… week days are themed specials and a new promotion is currently on for Sundays. Great views are of the lake and there is a big bar area… very family friendly with a great diverse menu… love the appertizers and Sushi especially. …

Came in with a large group (with a reservation) on a Sunday. There were a number of parties going on below the main restaurant area that made it very loud for our meal. (Soundproofing not so much). The menu is relatively large, but you need to be careful as their special menu and regular menu often have nearly identically named and priced items, but they are very different from each other.
The service was fine on our last visit — as I said it was a large group of about 20 people, but there was also at least one other large table in the server’s area and a bunch other patrons. A little help for the waitress probably wouldn’t have hurt.
Overall, a nice lunch out with the family.

Pretty good food here. Cheap drinks as well. This is the old buttonwood manor, but they added a sports bar on first floor. Gets packed at night and food takes a little longer but nothing crazy.

Foods good but service is terrible. Took about an hour to get a personal pizza and tacos. Staff is nice but we barely spoke to our server. Took forever to get a simple check as well.

Fun venue, big sports area if you want to watch a game or socialize. There is also a back area that is family friendly, overlooking beautiful views (seriously, I know that might be hard in the middle of suburbia NJ). The bar food/​menu is decent, and good drink specials too. A good spot for whatever casual ambiance you are looking for that meal.

As a local, mjs has become one of our go to spots for a bite to eat and a drink. Burgers are good and, although I don’t know if it’s a weekly thing anymore, the burger night was a great deal. A burger and draft beer for around $ 10. Pizza is also very good. Great bartenders and staff too! I do feel that some of the items in their menu are a little too pricey though. I’ve also found myself on the dance floor on more then one occasion when there’s been a dj! We’ll keep going back!

Great service ! Nice selection of fun food. Definitely great for a date night with lots of party music atmospheres. Food was good and drinks were nice! Youngish crowd with lively dance music!

You’re always guaranteed a good time at Mj’s. We go there all the time. The food is always delicious and the service is great. Every night they have different food and drink specials. Tuesday’s are trivia night, Wednesday’s karaōke and there is a DJ on Friday and Saturday nights. There are also plenty of TV’s showing your favorite sporting events. I definitely recommend.

Eh it was OK. Sat at the bar the service was mediocre at best. I had the bacon cheeseburger it was one notch above McDonald’s. $ 2 Miller lites was the only upside. Probably won’t be back.

Once again disappointed. The service is horrible. I’ve been in this industry foe 15 yrs. And I’ve done all parts of the industry. This place just keeps making it difficult. The Middletown one is way better. Since i moved closer to this one, I tried again. I will never go back. They forgot my drink, whatever can deal, waited forever and when ordered an app they brought it with all the food. The fries were cold with the sandwich and it was just overall bad service. Ive heard from many people the same They all say service. I hope they get it together. I will take the trip to Middletown next time, worth The trip.

I know this is a weird spot for sushi but TRUST me. This is the best sushi I’ve ever had. It’s so fresh and delicious. Awesome awesome awesome! It doesn’t hurt that there’s a fun bad area and a nice spot to view the lake in the restaurant. One of my favorite places and that is saying something. I’m so bored by every other restaurant/​bar.

Ok got a chicken Francese was ok sauce was good chicken to thick I got a sirloin sliced over garlic bread the mash was good the steak was a 2 star I could not get other food like fries or calamari due to the fact that they put there chicken pork fries chicken fingers calamri all in the same deep fryer so because of that ppl who don’t eat pork should be aware. The dessert the fudge brownie n Apple crunch the service was ok but the wait was insane got in there at 910 pm didn’t leave until 1040 literally didn’t get my food until 940 waited literally just for a steak n chicken over 30 minutes insane for desert waited another 15 minutes. Horrible kitchen service n horrible that all there deep fryer is used for everything like pork chicken n fries

I just haven’t been lucky dining lately… I’ve been in Matawan for a few years now and decided to finally try this place out. Looked like a good bar scene going on when we arrived but we ate in the main dining room.
Service: Pretty terrible. Our server consistently was forgetting our drinks or other items we requested. We had to ask for some of them three times — THREE times. Never brought out our salads that came with entrees, by that point, we didn’t even want them. Busboys brought out plates but wouldn’t clear previously plates, for example, our dinner entrees were still sitting on table when dessert came. Busboy drops off dessert and never takes dinner plates away. When we asked server what was for dessert, she said ice cream and brownies. Now I know I saw other options on the menu (she didn’t bother to offer the menu). I asked if some of the other things I thought I saw were available — «oh yea…» OKKKKK. Just in general, server seemed to not want to be there or serve us.
Food: Started out with a small bar pie. Nothing to write home about. We ordered two entrees. Entrees took 38 minutes to arrive from when we ordered. I think on a weeknight when you aren’t crowded, that’s a stretch. I know it’s not fast food but almost 40 minutes to get an entrée? Our entrees were decent but not outstanding. I wouldn’t order them again. We had pasta for one of them, were never offered cheese and then couldn’t get a hold of anyone to request it. Peppers and onions in my dish were barely cooked. Who wants to eat a raw onion? Apple pie came fresh out of the microwave. It would have been pretty good but I mean it was ridiculously HOT and steaming for a good ten minutes.
I will definitely NOT be returning here. Pretty the terrible service and medicore food, we can find way better. Don’t waste your money here.

These stars are for service not food. The food was great, the service was pretty terrible, to start our journey our server didn’t tel us his name or say hello he kinda just blankly stared at us like he was confused what we were doing at our table. He made no suggestions to what we should drink when asked and was overall very much not with us. Food came out in an OK fashion, french onion has a lot of Thyme in it and frazzled onions (great addition) and the wings were crispy enough not soggy. I hate to be a Debbie downer but I wasn’t happy with service I’ll try again when they are even more dead.

Wowzers, only 2 and half stars? What is going on over here? I think the food I had was pretty damm good. Service was decent and the view of the lake is pretty awesome. I did have their ribs one day and that was not good but I wouldn’t rate them less then 3 stars. The shrimp wrap was pretty amazing too.

MJ’s is a very predictable sports bar and grill. If you’re looking for a sports bar experience with very mediocre and overpriced food, then you should come here. If the food were at least a few dollars cheaper, it would be worth it.
For the few times I have been here, I’ve tried: the pasta fagioli soup (tastes like Progresso can soup), the linguine with clams (was just a-​ok), and the cheese pizza (decent but not worth the price).
The one redeeming aspect of MJs is the full service bar and atmosphere! If you’re looking to relax in a booth after a long day or work or head somewhere to catch the game, MJs is your place. It’s fun, there’s always a great crowd, and the drinks are great!
Their bartenders are always looking to show you new drinks and strike up conversations.

Food was phenomenal! I ordered 6 wings for $ 5.99 and the sauce I got was garlic parmisian. They were so good! Of course I had to share them and everyone agreed that they were the bomb! For dinner I ordered pecan crusted salmon with pistachios and it came with a yummy ragout. For dessert I got the apple cinnamon crunch which came with ice cream, warm apples, crunch stuff, almonds and cinnamon. Delish! I can’t wait for this one to open in my town in Spotswood, NJ.
