Wow, talking about crappy customer service, and grumpy staff. Its hard to recommend this place to people. Why is the owner allowing the staff to behave and act the way they are when you are in the customer service heavy industry? I was very impressed with the food every time i came, but i am going to stop coming and stop recommending this place to people because it is just so uncomfortable and uninviting when you eat there. Its like you owe them money or something. Would it kill you to put a smile on and try to be polite? And this is not just my experience, its also from what i saw while dining in. Very disappointed!!!

We’ve been here maybe 3 times in the past 5 years and every time I think the same thing — expensive with poor service. Today: service was slow, paid $ 8 for a ham and egg sandwich, there was a dead flower arrangement on our table, the kids’ cinnamon roll was dry, there was no cream in the cream container and when I handed it back for a refill they put it back out a minute later still empty(although she said someone must have just emptied it again, which I find hard to believe). I will say our latte and cappuccino was good, though.

Yesterday morning my twelve year old son and I wandered into Bread and Ocean on a lark. Freshly baked goods sounded good and the restaurant had a homey look about it. Man, were we in for a treat! First, the staff was great! Friendly smiles, accommodating demeanor, and genuine kindness. Secondly, the food and the coffee were awesome! We ordered two«Oceans» — my son’s without egg but added veggies(which they kindly suggested when he asked for no egg). When my name was called and I picked them up I did a double take. They were that impressive! They were big! And they were actually gorgeous! We sat down and tucked in. I was astonished to realize that the English muffin had just been cooked, for my sandwich! I think that this is the only place I’ve ever been where a breakfast sandwich is delivered on an English muffin cooked as part of the sandwich prep! It was crazy delicious!!! That’s it. I couldn’t recommend this place more highly. It was everything we’d hoped for and more. We made a lifetime memory.

Good sandwich. 40 minutes to get it — horrible. Don’t bring a hungry kid here. Staff rude when asked about prep time.

Cash only. Which I love in theory, but when you’re traveling on vacation it’s a bit inconvenient. So I thought I’d put that first. I had a gluten free turkey sandwich it was delish. I love that the to-go lunch come with a fruit salad and little cookie.

Amazing breakfast sandwich… homemade bun, Vegi’s galore, and some of the nicest people work there! I would go there next time I Am in town! They are expanding in a few months with dinners served southern style… can’t wait!

We stopped here because of other reviews I saw and this place did not disappoint. Everything in there is homemade and fresh. Best fruit salad and we had the Mc. Ocean special, cinnamon roll and late which was super yummy. They have quiches which looked amazing polenta cakes granola and yogurt. Just go there you will not be disappointed :)

Been coming here for over 10 years and it has gone through some changes during this time. Miss the raspberry rolls they used to have, but other than that the food has always been good. My low review is based on my most recent trip when the older woman working the register, owner I believe, was taking orders, handling money and getting food out of the display case not using any tongs or wax paper. She never washed her hands between handling money and people’s food. Also right before it was my turn to order she had filled a cup of some kind of salad from the cold case, got it on her hand and then licked it off her hand, then proceeded to get people’s food out of the bakery case without still having washed her hands. I might be overreacting to this, but that is disgusting. You should never handle food and money directly at the same time, and then licking food off the side of your hand and continuing on like nothing happened is even worse. Makes me wonder what other unsanitary practices are happening in the back. I have worked in kitchens before and I know they’re not perfect, but I had never seen anything like that before. Will probably still go there, but will ask that if they are about to handle my food after taking my money that they wash their hands or at least use tongs. It’s not that hard and could save them from being dinged by the health dept.

Order your favorite coffee drink and the Egg McOcean. Be patient. It will take a bit because they are making it fresh with the fluffiest scrambled eggs and the sweetest honey ham you will ever taste. Grab a fork. That light, crispy toasted English muffin can hardly contain all the goodness. You’re welcome.

Another great reason to visit Manzanita, Oregon. I highly recommend Bread and Ocean. For breakfast and lunch. I don’t think they do dinner, if they do, it’s not often. The owners are on-site guaranteeing top-notch quality. Pretty much all of the restaurants in Manzanita have onsite owners. Friendly employees/owners, top quality food and coffee.

It was a cold and rainy day… We were trailer camping at the State Park and decided some comfort food was in order. Warm mushroom polenta, a decadent Dungeness crab quiche, with root veggie salads… When we were done, I told the owner I wanted to co e over the counter and hug her for the love put in those dishes. Really, it was that good. Finished it with a very fine latte and the hot ginger drink– just the thing to ward off the November chill. Stop in, relax, and enjoy the love.

THEDAGWOOD! Wow just wow, not joking one of the best sandwiches I have ever had in my life. My fiancé and I were just leaving town and wanted a quick bite. I saw the Bakery and so we stopped in, I got half of a Dagwood and let me tell you the bread was a crunchy yet soft baguette, it had a sweet/savory red pepper mayo, with amazing meats and gruyère(one of my all time faves), topped with peperoncinis and fresh greens. I cannot wait to go back to Manzanita and get that sando again 10⁄10. Oh we also got a mini cinnamon roll which was amazing.

Still love it. Made it here Friday very close to closing, and still had a delicious half vegetarian sandwich on a baguette(substitution for the multigrain, my choice). My lady friend and I did the Oregonian weekend puzzles, journaled, filled ourselves up with nutritious food and a cozy atmosphere. Great service, too– bunch of friendly people that took our order, prepared our food, and cleaned up the place for the day.

If you want to know what you are eating… don’t eat here! My KOSHERVEGETARIAN family went to for lunch. I told them that I needed everything vegetarian. I asked them to double check the soup and Veggie quiche was, then confirmed that there was no meat in either. We started to eat the quiche and something did not taste right to me. I went back and asked. Again they said it was just vegetables. I had another bite, again did not taste right so I asked again. THIS time they told me there was bacon in it. Really??? bacon. Thank you for making my family sick and having no respect for your customers.

There’s always a line for the great sandwiches and they even sell egg-free, gluten-free bread by the loaf on Thursdays. Great little lunch spot in the heart of Manzanita, about a two minute walk to the ocean.

Thank you, new owners, for adding the best scones I’ve ever had to your morning menu. I was getting really tired of the twisted buns. Today I even had to settle for the last day old orange scone. It was as delicious as the daily fresh ones, which were already sold out by the time I arrived!

They had so many varieties of cinnamon roles this time! And I was so happy to see a petite version offered as well. I wish there were a few without icing though as I prefer them that way. Still was very happy to see so many different kinds and sleepy monk coffee brewed up and beans for sale as well! Love that sleepy monk!

The Cinnamon rolls here are a must. Huge, delicious and just perfect to nosh on while walking along the beach and thinking about life. I also ordered their pesto and ham and cheese rolls to go to since I was travelling on the road. Equally delicious. I’m not a coffee person being a product of the former British Empire(born in India, live in Canada) but the home-made chai was wonderful. For such a tiny little town Manzanita definitely has some great eats already!
