Love this place. Hudson Hall reminds me a lot of a more upscale and less douchey version of San Francisco’s Marina. It’s basically a college party. The crowd is surprisingly diverse. Hipsters and bankers mix amicably with one another. Top 40 music pulsed through the Hall’s cavernous and rustic interior, and the flowing drinks pushed some to start up impromptu dance floors and others to even find a corner to make out in. Huge fan of the drinks. Pretty solid selection of beers and ciders, as well as a full bar that delivers in stride. Drinks were decently priced, and the food was unpretentious and delicious. Hudson Hall feels like the perfect place to pregame a great night out. I wish we had something like it in San Francisco.

Went with a small group before a concert at Time Warner Jazz. Big tables are daunting and the cafeteria style service is odd BUT the food was delicious. We tried one of almost every offering — loved the baked brussel sprouts & the skirt steak. Not cheap however!

A relaxed vibe. The food is much better than you would expect. I’ve been there twice and have enjoyed each dish that I’ve tried. Easy to ge a reservation on a Friday night. Definitely ecommend it if you a looking for a place for good food that has a casual feel in the Columbus Circle neighborhood.

This place is situated in a hard to find hotel. I came here with a friend using a Gilt City coupon. The place feels like a Harry Potter cafeteria. I could imagine this would be a private grade school café. The food was mediacore and Wasn’t very memorable. They had meats and seafood where you could go up to pick and choose. Service was pretty good and the chefs seemed highly intrested in my thoughts about the food. It would be a nice place to meet for snacks and drinks, but not for a full on meal. I don’t think I would come again unless I find myself another coupon.

This place gets four stars just for its concept alone. There are many moods to step into as I began in the library where I had a delicious drink(Rare Fashioned) and admired the avant garde photographs of cleverly dressed cows while sitting on a plush sofa by the fire. What more can I say? It was love at first sight. We moved into the hall where we ate cafeteria style dining with high end, fun food. The mushroom pizza was by far my favorite dish but the tuna tartare and the hummus were also really good. I topped off my feast with the peanut butter chocolate pudding dessert. Although it was a bit dark(the lighting, not the pudding lol), I loved the idea of this gothic cafeteria style dining. There were majestic looking chairs at the head of each table that seemed out of place but looked exquisite nevertheless. This place is a perfect illustration of what I love about NYC dining… just when you think you’ve seen it all…

Checking out the Hudson Hotel is a must if your in the Columbus Circle area, the décor alone made me go «whoa… this is cool!» As others have stated, it is a bit difficult to find the place since there aren’t any signs, so just go up the escalator, then make a right, then make a left… and you are at your destination… Hudson Hall! Small plates for $ 8 to $ 16, long wooden tables with funky chairs(I sat at the head of the table and felt very regal), TV projected all around the walls(not actual TVs, just projections), nice bar area… To sum it up, a very swanky and expensive cafeteria. No way I would ever ever pay these prices at a «mess hall style» restaurant if it weren’t for Gilt City! With that said, thank you Gilt City for your amazing discounts because I actually had a great time here(paying significantly less money anywhere makes me have a great time haha) Food is ok, no complaints but nothing to rave about. Servers are very friendly, but then again they don’t really have any work to do since you get up to get your own plate. Nothing spectacular, so I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here unless you are in the area(and get the gilt city coupon!) Now Hudson Bar… check out my review! LOVED it!

I recently had a coupon to try Hudson Hall, located in the Hudson Hotel. I’ve visited the swanky hotel bar before(it looks like something out of ABC Carpet and Home) as well as dined at the Hall a few years ago. My coupon was good for 2 cocktails and four dishes, so I treated an eating buddy to a light tapas-style dinner. The first thing I noticed was that the format of Hudson Hall had changed — instead of traditional waiter service, the dishes were self-serve, almost like a fancier, trendy cafeteria. After perusing the dishes thoroughly(we had to pick the best four!), my eating buddy and I started with the braised short ribs — cooked till mouthwateringly buttery, these were tender and juicy. We next tried the chicken — I admit I’m always wary of chicken; I’ve had way too many a dry chicken in my life. However, the crispy skin on this dish was promising, and it delivered — the chicken was juicy, flavorful and delicious. The cornmeal crusted soft shell crab then caught my eye. It’s hard to tell in this photo, but this crab was ginormous! Since it was soft shell, I was able to devour it, crispy batter and all. Yum! We finished off the meal with a stack of chocolate chip nut cookies — these were kept warm under the heat lamps and were melty delicious! Now I wouldn’t say that Hudson Hall had the *best* food you’ll ever have, nor is it the least expensive. However, if you’re looking for a casual, self-serve style atmosphere that isn’t the Subway across the street nor Per Se down the block, Hudson Hall is a perfectly acceptable option. If you score a coupon deal, even better ;). After you finish your meal, make sure to stop by the swank looking bar for some post-dinner people watching! Fancy self-service at a trendy hotel. Food is okay, cookies are pretty good.

Went here with a Gilt City certificate. I liked the ambience, the space, the atmosphere, lighting. The server was great. He didn’t have much to do since it’s cafeteria style but he had a clue, and didn’t charge us for any extras we had in addition to our deal. Problem is I can’t imagine ever coming back at full price. The prices are too steep for the teeny portions. The beet salad was great, the steak good, the fries kinda cold. Some of the food just sits there under the heat lamps and I wonder how long they let it sit before replacing it. Overall the food was fine but not for the price. It’s a fast meal though if you’re limited on time since the food is sitting out waiting for you.

The food is really fresh and the chef is friendly and willing to make adjustments per dietary restrictions or allergies. Food is served mess-hall style. There are set tapas dishes; you walk up and grab them and are later charged for them. Each dish has a price associated with it. It feels like a buffet but it’s not all you can eat, so if you’re not careful, you’ll end up over spending. Must try the cookie platter. And ask them to heat it up a bit! I’m giving this place 3 stars because it was $ 90 for two of us, not counting any beverages. At that price and in NYC, there are so many better options.

Interesting concept — I actually liked that you were able to have your dishes cooked and plated on the spot. The wait service is spotty and the cocktails are way tiny but the food is consistent. The soft shell crab, hamachi, and tartare were definitely highlights of the evening. Im not too sure if I would go back again though. I like being waited on and served.

I was looking for a not crazily expensive New American style restaurant where a visitor from overseas can try various types of dishes. This was casual enough and yet nice atmosphere. Since we could look and choose what we wanted to eat, it was definitely better and easier for us to figure out what we were going to eat. I think my company would not have been able to decide from menu. Also, each plate had two pieces of meat etc, it was easy to share. We got green salad with goat cheese and hazel nuts, tuna tartare, short rib, and sugar snap peas stir fry. We asked for bread and the waitress brought some pieces of flat bread. We drank only one glass of juice each and the bill came out to be $ 62(without tip). Not cheap, but good for trying various things. The food was tasty. Since I read a review that this place is hard to find, I was aware, but it took a while to actually find the place. First finding Hudson Hotel could be a problem. Since I had an exact address AND knew that there is NO sign of the name of the hotel, I spotted this trendy-wanna-be kind of exterior. Went upstairs by escalator, but went to a wrong pub side(EXT). Realized that it was not the right place. We were about to ask about the restaurant at conceirge and then we spotted this place was… No signs anywhere!

I’ve been here a few times like 3 – 4 years ago before they changed it to cafeteria style. It still has that Hogwarts charm which made me very happy. I love the long wooden tables and the high back chairs. I’m glad they got rid of the scary«people in the flames» photo they had up above the kitchen. The food was pretty good. We had the tuna tartare, cornmeal crusted soft shell crab, hamachi, shishito peppers, sliders, short ribs(a bit too sweet for my taste). One of the chefs came over and recommended dishes to try. I just wish the waiters were a bit more attentive. I mean we are getting our own food so what else can they be busy with?

I loved the garden behind the lobby: it is a secret, lusciously green hide-away that’s is not overly crowded, romantic and hip at the same time. The garden doesn’t serve food though, so we spent most of the time in the café where we partook in their cafeteria-style dinner. Though overall experience was enjoyable the food presented lacked variety. I do believe though that it gets better during lunch when they actually have more than two tables. The food was nice and it is rather cool to go out there and pick your own plate once it is prepared, descriptions feature prices so you know what you are getting — most items are ranging between $ 8 and 15. We had a Charcuterie with a dub of delightful mustard and a few surprisingly smoky grapes, a tuna sashimi cake and some fingerling potatoes and buttered peas, these items ranged in $ 8 – 15 and were tasty, though the peas started to get old when we got them. Wines were as low as $ 36 per bottle which is not crazy expensive by NYC standards. The waiters were really nice. I would come back.

So this is a pretty cool idea. The space is really wide open, so it feels like you’re in a real(albeit very trendy) cafeteria, and they play some sweet music videos on the walls from back in the day. Once you sit down at your bench, you make your drink orders, then off you go to take a look at that buffet line. This can be dangerous since it’d be way too easy to grab more than you can eat. But my top recommendations are the steak and the tuna tartare. The desserts were also really good. Prices weren’t out of this world for a hotel like this, each dish was somewhere in the $ 10 range, and 2 or 3 could fill you up. Drink menu was interesting too, definitely recommend just getting a pitcher, which is about 5 drinks, for the $ 60 or so. My only complaint is they need to expand the offerings since there were only maybe 10 or so plates to choose from.

The Hudson Hotel’s most recent attempt at upscale comfort food. The stylish upmarket cafeteria line concept was a lot of fun. The Hudson burger was a very tasty slider, but make sure your fries are really fresh. I grabbed ones that must have been sitting awhile. It’s worth it to wait for the dishes you want. Mini-wagyu steak with yukon purée was tasty and well cooked. The ravioli with lemon butter and morels rocked. The salads were inventive(heirloom spinach with dried raspberries and humboldt fog cheese). I also loved that the cocktail menu is available in shot/glass/pitcher options. I like trying everything.

This has to be the most different restaurant I’ve ever been too as far as how the food is served. Yes it’s a buffet, but not your usual buffet. Very modern, classy, trendy. Food is cooked on the spot, and you have choices like Tuna Tartare, Mini Crab rolls, Mini Beef burgers, Salmon, cheese plate, desserts etc. The food was delicous! If you’re a group of 4 or more go with ordering a $ 55 Wine Magnum, this is easily 2.5 bottles of wine. It’s extremely worth the money, and you’ll be feeling nice once you’re done. Love the atmosphere, it feels as if you’re in a modern cafeteria with the exposed brick, and wrap around projection screen. Long benches with throwns at the end of each table. Huge bar, large windows. I’d go back, great place, it left a lasting impression!

Very cool place! Insane design. Food is both nutritious AND amazingly prepared. The scene is very hip and fun. Cocktails are some of the best I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying. Especially the ORGANIC vodka and FRESH cucumber drink. I highly recommend it! I cannot say enough good things about Hudson Hall!

Really cute place to mingle. Think high end college dining hall with brick walls, a wrap around projection screen, benches and long wooden communal tables. The food station is at the center of the hall where you can grab a red tray and proceed to stations with tuna tartar, sliders, fries, marinated olives, pizza, buffalo mozzarella with pepper, and cheese plates among others. I highly recommend the tuna tartar and I love olives but I was taken by surprise when they were hot. The drinks were good but nothing to write home about. It’s pretty easy to rack up a hefty bill with the set up especially if your hungry. Each item ranges from $ 6-$ 14 and some of the portions are pretty small; I’d say a full meal would take about four plates from the stations. It was pretty good and a cool place to try especially since the communal tables encourage mingling with other groups of people.
