Explored around Manhattan beach for the day and decided to check out this sushi place since they were having a happy hour. From our happy hour experiences with sushi, we had no problem until we came here… Pretty trendy and romantic here… and we were pretty excited with the happy hour sushi and drinks until we got our order of sushi. Like I said before, we are a couple who loves eating sushi, and we know what’s good and not so good. And this place was no bueno…:( First off, their sushi rice. Where is the sushi rice flavor? Where’s that vinegar taste that sushi rice suppose to taste like? The rice was flavorless… Felt like we weren’t even eating sushi. What a waste… Second, the pig ears that we ordered as appetizers, it tasted more floury and soggy instead of crunchy. If only it was crunchy, that will probably be better. If I remembered correctly, their happy hour beers were more worth than their food because you cannot go wrong with a beer unless it’s not carbonated and warm. Don’t think we will be coming back.

Went on a Friday night for an 8:30 reservation through Opentable. We were seated right away at a nice table. Server didn’t come to our table for a long time. Actually it seems like service was slow the entire night. It appeared that there were a LOT of servers in the restaurant but for some reason, i got the feeling that the restaurant was understaffed even though it was a slow night(maybe kitchen was having problems?) We ordered: 1. SOft shell crab roll — 13. It was fresh. 2. Corn w/yuzu — 8. Good but it was a small corn cut up in 4 pieces 3. Truffle fries — 12. VERY good. 4. Crab fried rice — 32. Suprisingly unique and good 4. Kobe beef steak — 32. Completely charred to a burnt crisp and nasty. I sent it back and it came back out a little better but still charred. I gave up. Drinks were never offered to be refilled. Took 20 minutes to get the check. Ignored much of the night. For this price, I expected better service. Oh yeah, they never gave me credit for the opentable reservation despite marketing themselves as a «1000 point reservation.»

Ok I go here all the time but this past Friday something was just different about this place. They had been closed for a bit for remodeling or whatever the hell they did. They did fck their lounge up and it just looks stupid with thos high top tables. Something was different, first of all the music SUCKED, this used to be the only place that actually played house music and not cheez azz music, ok that is gone. Where was the head chef, nope he is not there. The place was a deadzone, maybe they are catching on that something is different here. This place always had such a great vibe, lots of people, maybe it’s the food cause when I sat down to order i was like, where the hell is all the food on the menu. I would say more than half of the items are no longer on the menu which = to me, doubt I’ll be coming here that much like I used to. Moral to the story, don’t mess with a good thing, you had a great thing going and I don’t know what they did but it is not the same and if they don’t bring back most of those menu items I’m sure they will lose a lot of customers who go there for what was really great food. Now it’s just the same old sushi bar like everywhere else in the South Bay. Sashi bring back the old times!

We were hesitant to go to this place because we tend to be sushi snobs. But then after we ate at this place, we didn’t understand why it didn’t get better reviews. It’s definitely not a 5 star place, but for the most part, the food was delicious and the restaurant was beautiful. I also like to see a japanese sushi chef, but I’m not sure we saw one. We especially liked the crispy rice spicy tuna appetizer.

There’s nothing really that special about Sashi IMO. It’s supposed to be a sake sushi bar but we didn’t see a single Japanese, let alone Asian, worker at this restaurant. It’s more of a very americanized japanese joint. When we sat down in the bar area, we noticed 2 japanese customers walk in, but after a few minutes, we noticed they left. So I assume they didn’t feel like it was Japanese enough for them? And maybe they went to Fusion Sushi next door. Shrug. Either way, if you want to go to a hip place with sake, wine, beer, and sushi, I guess this would be your place.

I like a good happy hour, and I had a great time at Sashi. I came with a group of co-workers for a birthday party, and it was a fun venue for a ladies only happy hour. The décor screamed pink and swanky in a way that didn’t particularly appeal to me, but it was appropriate for the occasion. We snagged some lounge seats and sipped beers and shared food and chatted for an enjoyable couple of hours. We were a big group, so we ordered everything on the happy hour menu, and most of it made its way around. The food came at a good pace, and if it was intentionally staggered, it was well done. Service was pleasant throughout our stay, and we got everything we asked for without any problems. I had a $ 3 Sapporo draft, a big, refreshing glass of beer, and ate off most of the little shared plates. The food was pretty average. Most of it was Japanese fusion, and only some of it was well advised. To give you an idea, a huge part of the restaurant smelled heavily of sesame oil. I love that smell, but someone was overdoing something. A few of our snacks were pretty tasty. My favorite was a plate of yuzu kosho grilled chicken wings with a spicy green sauce. The wings were tender and flavorful, and the sauce was delicious. I also liked some of the vegetable dishes. The edamame two ways, salted and covered in Indian spices, was very good, as was a simple but pretty presentation of asparagus on a small grill. I also liked a tofu salad with tomato, moromi miso, and Thai basil. It was light and flavorful and the tofu was nice and soft. We tried a couple gastropub type offerigs, and these were fine. The parmesan white truffle crème fraîche tater tots were served hot and fluffy, and there was a lot of truffle oil if that’s your thing. Kobe sliders with Boursin cheese skewered with a little lettuce, tomato, and single cornichons were fun and palatable, if not very interesting. But Sashi went wrong with the more Japanese dishes. We had a few hand roll duos, with spicy tuna and California roll, and while okay, these were nothing special. I was more offended by the sashimi trio. This was very pretty, presented on ice, but it also cost $ 15 for slices of tuna, salmon, and albacore. I had a sliver of salmon and it was not super high quality. I had some more salmon in the lemon pepper salmon sashimi on corn shiso salad. This was okay, but too oily, and trying too hard. My worst bite of the day, though, was a charcoal grilled oysters with chili oil and shiso. That was the grossest oyster I’ve had in recent memory, served warm and drenched in oil. The oyster could have been good raw for all I know, but it didn’t stand a chance prepared this way. It turned a strange combination of slimy and rubbery that was hard to swallow. I had a great time hanging out at Sashi, but I doubt I’d come back on my own. The atmosphere was lively, but a bit too club lounge for my tastes, with music to match. More to the point, the food did not tempt me to spring for a full meal. That said, happy hour was a lot of fun, and Sashi provided a fashionable venue for our all girls birthday celebration.

Maybe this place isn’t my scene, but i just wasn’t into it. It is really trying to be a trendy posh hip Japanese restaurant/bar/lounge. I even found my waiter to be pretentious. As for the food, it was fine. The rock shrimp was good and quite large. The Uni sashimi was $ 32BUT it was a whole sea urchin and the presentation was quite nice. I tried the Chef Morimoto signature shicken noodle soup. I didn’t like it at all. The base was weird, kinda like it had star of anise in it. Anyhow. It was all overpriced, even for japanese standards.

Loved this place! Definitely a great spot for younger adults to hang out. I really liked the way the food was presented nicely and tasted great. Things I had: –Edamame Two Ways: came with regular salt and also with curry powder, nothing too special –Crispy Potato thing: it was just okay –Beef Carpaccio: perfect light appetizer to start off with, tasty –Oysters in Half Shell: came in 3 different flavors, I’m usually not a fan of raw oyster, but the one with the ponzu sauce was good –Tsukune(ground chicken on a stick): nice and juicy, one of the best I’ve had –Tar Tar Caviar: it was pretty good, small portion –Iron Chef Chicken Noodle Soup: apparently the chef is famous for this, but it really wasn’t much just your average chicken ramen –SASHIROLL: soo good!!! Best roll I’ve had in my life since it had my favorites spicy tuna and albacore with dynamite sauce on top — Crème Brulee 5 Ways: This was an amazing dessert, mini crème bruless in different flavors such as green tea, chai, coffee, etc. Total Bill: $ 150 Definitely a bit pricy but for the atmosphere and food, it’s a fantastic place to spend a special night out.

*** Happy hour review only: 5−7pm. *** All drafts priced $ 3 – 4. Nice selection of Hoegaarden, Sapporo, Kirin, domestics. All are light, so they pair well with sushi. Menu are extremely light bite items imo. I tried the sashimi trio. It was just okay. Then I tried a salmon and a kobe slider. The salmon is excellent … but kobe dry. I love the Hawaiian bread used on both. And you have got to love their signature ’SASHI’ seared on top of the bread. Cute. *** Décor is nice too, so I’d do it again. ***

I came here a while back with a few girlfriends for dinner. Ambiance & service were good, sushi was just ok(and a tad too pricey for the quality). It seems like a pretty trendy spot for MB, but I’m not sure it was worth the money. Parking was easy to find — there’s a parking garage right next door.

My Girlfriend and I dressed up and came here for Dine In LA. There was a preset menu and the ambiance was gorgeous. Walking through the door we saw a huge crowd sitting, surrounding the bar and waiting by the hostess stand. Although we went on a random wednesday night, the place was packed and the crowd was surprisingly gorgeous. People were on dates, celebrating birthdays or just having a posh dinner with friends. For our evening, we had picked the perfect place. A gorgeous hostess seated us in a very tight seating area, but wasn’t bad since we were tiny. However, for two men or any larger person~ the seating would have been uncomfortable. The pre-set menu gave a great selection of foods and we were excited to choose our appetizer, main course and dessert. To pair with this meal, we ordered chilled Sake that was AMAZING. Although I don’t remember the name of it, it was in a tiny pink bottle and was one of the inexpensive options. Our waitress was a litle flighty, our food very late, and the bathroom inconvenient to get to in our tiny tables~ The reason why I give this place three stars is because of the gorgeous ambiance and aesthetically plated food.

I can’t wait to come back to this place(on someone else’s dime that is LOL) I needed a spot asap and asked for some recommendations from some South Bay friends and a mentioned Mucho and Sashi and a lot of other places, but I was curious about Sashi, due to their menu and sounded pretty interesting so thats what I chose. Since we don’t know the Southbay so well, I thought it was going to be a bitch trying to find this place. But the gods were in our favor. Found a parking spot in that parking garage thingy they have, if you can’t find parking on the main drag lol. So im thinking where is this damn spot, as soon as we get out the car, and walk to the left, the place is staring me in the face WHOOOOHOOO, can’t beat that. So we were 30 minutes early and I thought that would be an issue and no it wasn’t, they sat us right away, nice touch. The service was great, the waitress was VERY helpful, answered any questions we had and knew the menu like the back of her hand. Now to the food. We ordered all types of nigiri rolls: Scorpion fish, Butterfish, Salmon, Chutoro, Aji and Hamachi. The fish was super fish and the rice melted in my mouth all of the dish tasted fresh and great. Now the entrée we choose that wasn’t on the menu was Kobe Steak Toban Yaki Grilled Kobe Filet mignon, Sautéed Spinach, Grilled Potato, served with Teriyaki Truffle Butter Sauce, OMG. We ordered that and the Kobe beef melted in my mouth, it was cooked perfectly, you could cut the Kobe with a fork thats how tender it was. Overall I was full, great martini’s and I love this place and I will be coming back.

I had a quick lunch here with Andrea R and it was great. They automatically started us out with some edamame and waters. And while the cocktail list they pushed at us looked awesome I couldn’t imbibe due to other afternoon responsibilities. Perhaps I’ll get to enjoy a couple next time! For lunch I ordered the crispy tuna and a roll. Both were great, but the crispy really shone. It was perfectly done. Our server was efficient and friendly and I would easily recommend it for a business lunch. The atmosphere was also swanky enough that I could see this being a great date night place, too.

We were camped out for the day at the lovely Shade Hotel and Tiffany C mentioned she spotted some sushi nearby. Whoo hoo! We checked to make sure it was Unilocal approved(oh so important when indulging in raw fish) and headed over to Sashi for lunch. The décor of the restaurant was beautiful and we made our way outside to the lovely patio. Nothing like eating outside in December… love LA! I was a bit hungry after my long flight(even after eating a small pinkberry at the airport) so I was happy when they brought out complimentary edaname. While munching on the edaname I ordered a spider roll and scallop ceviche. The spider roll was great and totally hit the spot. They were out of live scallops so the scallop ceviche tasted much rawer(is that a word?) than expected. I don’t think I could stomach eating raw scallops outside of California, but they actually tasted pretty fresh. And guessing they were OK since it’s now been a week and I’m living to review it. Tiffany’s crispy tuna looked awesome and made me wish I hadn’t decided to give up tuna months ago in fear of mercury poisoning. I always have a craving for sushi when in California and Sashi was a delicious fix!

I cannot say that this review is unbiased due to the fact that my visit was with frequent visitors. Upon entry, we were warmly welcomed by the hostess and waiters and seated in the main dining room, where I had a perfect view of the chefs at work. Passing by the Saké Lounge section, I caught sight of quite a number of beautiful, well-dressed individuals. The dining area was more family oriented, but it was still fused with quite a number of dressy couples. Upon sitting down, Chef Makoto Okuwa came over and greeted us. How’s that for service?! Our table of 10 ordered Chef Okuwa’s omakase(which is not on the menu), which included a number of courses ranging from sushi pieces to seafood skewers. The memorable highlights of this meal included very tasty and tender cod fish skewers, juicy lamb chops, garlic bread with olive oil/vinegar dip complemented with gongonzola and peaches, and sauteed shishito peppers among others. While not all the dishes weere spectacular, but all of the courses were very enjoyable on average with wonderful presentation. A chic décor, solid eye candy(for both the guys and ladies), and getting to watch an «iron chef» behind the counter preparing your courses made it a truly exciting experience. The service was wonderful(anchored by an attentive and friendly waitstaff) despite how busy the restaurant was. Easily a 4-star affair based on the fun factor for this East Coast visitor. At the end, Chef Okuwa actually came over to thank us and shook our hands on the way out.

I would only eat at Sashi if I had a seat outside. My first time there was for a friend’s birthday and we were a party of 8. We had reservations so we didn’t have to wait around for a table. We had the whole back patio section to ourselves. If you know what to order here you’ll love your meal. We tried about 12 items amongst the 8 of us. The popcorn thing the chef sent out we could have done without, the edamame two ways was pretty interesting with regular edamame on one side and edamame adorned with Indian-ish spices on the other side. A few other standouts for our group included the fig with gorgonzola cheese and bacon(how can that go wrong? Three great ingredients!), The Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice, The Robata — Black miso cod, the Lobster carbonara, the interesting oyster shooters that came in a champagne flute, the Chilean Sea Bass entrée, the Metlox Pops, the Sushi Tacos and the Lobster fried rice. My favorite would have had to have been the Lobster carbonara! My one piece of advice would be to keep track of what your order and check your bill ;)
