Great sushi… long waits on a Friday. Take-out only and the names changed to Temu sushi… The fire rolls and tuna where fresh. Baked scallops weren’t to shabby either. If you want take out sushi, this place is your call.

Kai Sushi is NOMORE. Its now called TEMU Fish… SOLETITBEWRITTEN! Just one bite and you’ll be saying OMFG Thats delicious! I came in based on some of the Unilocal reviews and my experience rocked! I ordered a couple of rolls, took a seat and waited. What came next was a pair of outstanding rolls. Naturally I forgot their names, but not the flavor. Definitely worth a return visit. Dont forget kids, this is a take out only spot. Sooo looking forward to my next visit. ¡Domo Arigato o o o!

It is now called Temu Fish. They only do to go orders. Prices are normal of any other normal sushi place. I LOVE this place though, since it is soooo close to my work. They have a big menu too and the rolls i like. I usually get the crispy spicy tuna. It’s spicy tuna on top of fried rice squares. Also had a few other rolls and they are quite fresh and yummy. The owners/workers are super friendly and remember me everytime I walk in. They are to go only which is fine with me!

Just fyi, this is no longer Kai Sushi. It is now called«Juma Fish» or something like that. The new place has the same phone number and location, but a little different menu that what you find on-line for Kai Sushi. It was pretty good, nothing I would write home about, but conveniently satisfied my sushi craving. I had a spicy salmon roll, yellowtail sushi, seaweed salad, and miso soup. The seaweed salad was my favorite.

The California Roll was similarly priced as what you would get from Ralph’s, but I would expect a whole lot fresher — after all, I watched them make it. The choices of rolls was extensive, prices good(you are not paying for atmosphere). I will be back. 2nd visit: Had CA rolls, Slur Roll, Spicy Wasabi Scallop Roll &2 soups for $ 28. Probably stick with the traditional rolls next time.

Been here twice so far since it’s on the way home from work. The Chirashi bowl is pretty good. Slices of sashimi on top of some greens with rice at the bottom. I believe it’s tuna, red snapper, salmon, mackeral, and a few others. Served with ponzu sauce. It makes for the perfect serving of sushi. Note: They only do take-out so don’t expect to dine in. Call ahead and have your food ready to go :)

Loved this little hole in the wall, carry-out sushi joint. For lunch, I ordered the rainbow roll meal, which included small salad with ginger sesame dressing, miso soup, and a piece of inari(if I”m not mistaken). Not bad for $ 8.95. I was a skeptical at first because the place isn’t much to look at nor is the décor particularly inviting. But you know what, I’m grabbed my food and left any way. Next time I’m near Manhattan Beach, I’d definitely go back for their high quality, inexpensive sushi.

Very average sashimi. Kind of dry and a little chewy. Surprised about all the raving reviews. Probably depends what one is used to. Rolls OK but likely because you don’t really taste the fish too much.

Pre-made, to-go sushi found in the refrigerated section of grocery stores usually carries a bad stigma, and rightly so. The trays of spicy tuna rolls, rainbow rolls and mounds of nigiri have the illusion of tasty goodness, especially with the splashes of green color from decorative cellophane grass. But the goodness usually stops there. The rice is often cold and dry and the fish at times can rival the gnarliest beef gristle. Sure, they might have been made that same morning, but that’s all it takes to go from sushi to poo-ey(in more ways than one). So, just say no to to-go sushi… unless it’s from Kai! Kai doesn’t have a dining room, which is why you can only take it to go. The value is pretty unbeatable and the quality and freshness beats pricier sushi joints in the South Bay. They prepare your sushi to order and the two-person team is quick and efficient, but I would call in your order if you’re in a hurry. Standouts include: The Slur roll, which is a crab and asparagus roll topped with salmon, avocado and wine sauce. The Manhattan Beach roll which is a spicy tuna and crab roll topped with seared Albacore, avocado and a light tangy light sauce. Oooooh yeah. Weekday sushi combo lunch specials range from $ 7 – 12(depending on the sushi roll you pick) and comes with a side of miso soup and salad. They also have rice bowls that are less than $ 6 and are PACKED with meat(chicken, beef, pork or eel), rice and veggies. One bowl could easily be split into two meals if you’re a portion pincher. Credit card accepted for orders over $ 10.

Unfathomably good sushi from such a tiny hole-in-the-wall take-out place. We love sushi. We go out for sushi regularly and nearly every place we go, we end up saying, «We should have just gotten Kai and stayed home!» Their fish is reliably good quality, very fresh and well-cut, the prices are reasonable and the staff is friendly.

Friday night after a long week of work and definitely not feeling up to go out for dinner so the answer, try Kai Sushi for some takeout. Reasonably priced items that were a bit creative. Had their House Special Roll which was pretty tasty, as well as the dynamite roll and two other ones that I can’t remember unless I see the menu. Since I wasn’t the one that went to pick it up(sent my slave… hehe), I can’t talk about the actual service at the place but overall, the food was pretty tasty. Would try them again.

A great find! It’s a small place, take-out only. Sushi is consistently fresh and good size portions. Great customer service. Very friendly on the phone and in person.

Amazing sushi, very friendly staff who work quickly and seem genuinely interested, perhaps because it looked like a slow night. Handed me my card with both hands, leading me to think they’re actually originally from Japan.

Awesome for take-out sushi. Not the most amazing sushi ever, but really good for take out. It’s also reasonably priced. Perfect for a weeknight dinner when you have no idea what you want.

I’d give the food 5 stars – fresh, good sushi for a great price. Lunch specials with sushi include freshly steamed edamame, miso soup, salad, and a piece of inarizushi on the side for $ 7 – 12. My spicy salmon roll came stuffed with lots of succulent, juicy pieces of fresh salmon, generous compared to most sushi joints. Seasonings were delicious(but the salad came drenched with what seemed like diluted Kewpie mayo… it tasted good though). Oddly, the staff seem to desire minimal interaction with customers. For one thing, it’s takeout only, and though there are chairs at a counter across from the sushi chefs, my food was packaged and tied to-go, so they must not want customers to sit and eat there. Second, there is no restroom for customer use – difficult for those of us who don’t have an office to get back to after lunch. Finally, a paper towel(of restroom quality) was provided in lieu of a napkin, which I’d never expect of any Japanese restaurant. Still…I’m a foodie and will return for good, cheap food despite these points!

Kai Sushi is close to my work. I go here if I want something quick and affordable to satisfy my sushi craving. It is definitely not the best sushi I ever had, but it is good enough. I would suggest calling in and placing your order. There is only 1 sushi chef, so the food takes awhile. Note: if the sushi chef tells you that your order is going to take 20 min, he really means 30 or sometimes 40 minutes. This is a to-go place only. The good thing is that you can pick the sushi up and take it to the beach and enjoy your meal there. Or, you can always take your sushi and have a little picnic at the little tables in front of the Pinkberry located at Plaza El Segundo. This is a really nice area to have a picnic, especially if the weather is nice, as you can enjoy the weather and watch the water shooting out of the fountain nearby.

3.5 stars Pros: Quality is not too bad for the price Cons: Take-out only I’ve gone here twice already and I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the quality of fish here. It’s by no means the best sushi I’ve had, but it definitely hits the spot when I have a sushi craving. I’ve ordered some of the rolls(ranging from $ 8-$ 10) dollars and the lunch special combos($ 8-$ 12) and they’re pretty good for the price. In general, you’re better off getting the rolls because the nigiri, although pretty generous, is somewhat lacking in quality. One big downside of this place is it’s take-out only. If you’re close by it’s not too bad. Since I work down the street, we usually just call ahead and pick it up a couple minutes later.

I was craving a little sushi for lunch, but didn’t want to spend a bundle OR have to travel very far from the office. Boy, am I glad I checked Unilocal! Kai is about a 5 min drive from my office in El Segundo(just across from Manhattan Village). I couldn’t find a menu online, so I decided to just show up and wing it. As mentioned, the interior is very tiny, but since I arrived at around 1:45 p.m.(well after the lunch rush), I was the only one in the joint. I decided to try one of the Lunch Specials which range in price from $ 6.95 — $ 11.95. All of them come with a small portion of Edamame(I count 10 pieces), a cup of Miso soup(not as salty as I usually like), 1 piece of Inari and a small mixed greens salad with miso dressing(a bit overdressed, honestly). I went for the Tataki Lunch Special($ 10.95+tax) which comes with the above plus one of the following: Tuna Tataki roll, Albacore Tataki roll or Manhattan Beach roll. I decided to go for the Manhattan Beach after the sushi chef told me it was very popular. It was 6 large pieces with spicy tuna and imitation crab on the inside and a garlic-pepper seared albacore and avocado on the outside. Yum! The fish was very fresh and well-seasoned and the amount of food is perfect for lunch. It comes in a little sectioned plastic«to go» container and they will give you a soy sauce cup if you ask. I will definitely be going back to Kai!
