Entire family is eating out of a lukewarm bowl of clam chowder after a hike up at Point Dume. Rubbery calamari just arrived. Been waiting about 90 minutes. Too hungry to go on. Trying to slit my wrists with a dull butter knife. Help me… After another 45 minutes we left a twenty and exited the restaurant in a rage. After a sullen walk back to the car, we determined never to return to this horrible establishment.

Closed? I looked up on the Chart House website and it’s not listed as a place where you can make a reservation on the Location Lost. Bummer as a bought a membership card to get discounts — likely can be used at other Landry’s locations ??? Guess I’m not supprised as was not busy when we last stopped in for lunch and while great view, my wife was not thrilled. We like the Chart House in Monterey on Cannery Row. Yep Closed — now Mastro’s Ocean Club, we stopped by and checked it out.

I went here on a date and it was great. We got a table with a great view of the ocean. The alcoholic drinks were good, the appetizers were good, and the fish was good. The food can be pretty expensive but it seemed worth it. The parking is valet only, which is fine because it’s pretty cheap compared to the food.

Well first and formal this place is not for big groups. Perfect for a couple who want some great seafood and a view of the ocean. If nearby restaurants are booked Chart House will do!

Best coconut shrimp ever. In 1996 I was introduced to this place and have been back whenever I get to the area. I have also dined at the Tampa FL location. The view is breath taking at sunset, the seating is intimate, the parking is doorside, the greeting is always professional, the servers are wonderful and most importantly the food has always lived up to my expectations. One of my top three favorite restaurants(Peter Luger’s in NY and La Belle Vie in Minneapolis are the other two). Enjoy! I strongly suggest making a reservation.

My girlfriend took me here for my birthday. I used to come here all the time with my parents years ago. We first drove up and never realized it was valet parking only which freaked my girlfriend out cause she had no dollars on her and we had to pay up front. So the valet guy realized it was my birthday and said dont worry about it. So generous! The atmosphere is really welcoming and the smell when u first walk in is inviting. I’m reading alot of reviews on here and have never had an experience like the others. I had a waitress who was exceptional and who did whatever we needed to make me feel special that it was my birthday. Like my previous review on flemings no one cared it was my girlfriends birthday. My plate of food was a huge portion and I was stuffed after eating it. My Caesar salad was one of the best I’ve ever had! For desert I had a tiramisu coffee drink and it was amazing! I’m coming back here for my birthday this year!

We had no reservation but stopped by early on a Saturday night in hopes they could accomodate us as we were out of towners. We hoped to at least have a cocktail and snack. My highest rave is for the cocktails, the cucumber martini is worth the trip for me personally. The first one took too much time to prepare but was well worth it once I took my first sip, bang, just what I was wanting. We had a table ready for us within thirty minutes and decided to stay for dinner. Appetizer was average to good… it was fresh. The waitress was a delight and very attentive. For dinner I had the coconut shrimp and hubs had the swordfish. His meal was really more refined and really quite good but in his opinion, portions too small. He likes his food so I don’t know that I would count that as a critique. The shrimp was good but again, not the best I have ever had. The cocktails and the view is what made the experience so memorable for me. That will bring me back. Maybe we will stay in the bar and have cocktails, a few apps and try a dessert.

BEWARE: Do not get reservations from Chart House for Valentines Day. Your date will be ruined!!! Read my last years review: They over booked and caused an hour delay just for seating!!! As if that was not enough, once they had us seated, that’s when they told us the kitchen is backed up for another hour!!!(so they don’t lose customers). My reservation was at 9:15 and it was 11:00 and I still had no food on my table. Stuff gets worse… I got frustrated and asked for my check, the waiter comes out and tells me the credit card machine is down and I will have to wait!!! are you fuckin kidding me?!? The worst service ever and unorganized. This place is a joke. I spoke with Mike Richardson regarding this matter who is from corporate… I must say he is a very nice guy, but nothing will ever want me to come back again. chart house should go out of business

They earned 1.5 stars for our Christmas Eve dinner. The service was slow and unresponsive. The food was poor quality(I’ll get lobster bisque from The Lobster Truck from now on – sans remnants of the shell thank you very much). The cost was obscene for the combo of poor food and service. Next year, I’m going to Carrow’s. I’m srsly.

A-MAZING, if you want a foodgasm with a front row malibu ocean side view, this is your place! The Oysters — to DIE for, the BEST I’ve ever had!!! The Scallops, the duck dumplings, the seared yellowfin ahi their drinks, all To DIE for I literally got giddy after eating this amazing sexy food… The staff is on point, timing, taste, presentation, location = the BEST Worth a drive into malibu The only suggestion I would say to this place is to tell them to get a heater for the valet outside, I would be freezing if I were him

Where to start? I had read mixed reviews about this place but I had a gift card from work so I figured I had nothing to lose. We went today for lunch so we could have a better view if the ocean. First thing we notice when we walk in is that we can smell the bathroom. It’s the smell of the urinal cakes getting peed on. Even my Fiancé noticed it. Not a great start. Place was practically dead so we were seated immediately but it still took more than 15 minutes to get our drinks. The bartender said he didn’t know what was wrong with the bar as they weren’t busy(he would go on to say several things he should have kept to himself). He looked like a stoner that was not feeling work today. View was nice but they sat us next to a loud table. The food: The appetizers were average. I had the clam chowder and it had nice texture and average flavor. The entrees were terrible. I had the fish and chips. The were crispy on one side and soggy on the other and the fish was chewy. She has seared tuna that was average in flavor. We passed on dessert. Overall, I would say we didn’t have a very enjoyable dining experience. The valet seemed to be the only person who wanted to do a good job. We tipped him extra. We will not be returning.

Hours displayed Sunday closes 9:30pm, we arrived 9:03pm. They were closing. But the server seated us and the manager, Paul, introduced himself and asked how we are doing. We didnt know the kitchen is closed. Regardless, they reopened the kitchen and still served us and waited til we finished. Our server is so entertaining, he removed our discomfort of being the only customers left. He presented our hummus with colorful introduction and he still expressed himself with overflowing energy despite a long day of work. We ordered the crab cakes and prime rib. Cooked and presented to perfection. We are impressed!

Ehh… It’s owned by Landrys which pretty much sums it up. Overall, I felt like I was in a nicer Red Lobster from the 90’s. They are right on the Ocean, so they don’t really give a shit about going the extra mile to work on anything else because, hey, you’re looking at the filthy Santa Monica surf lap up on an underwhelming stretch of sand, right? The fish is good, but it’s overpriced and could be flavored better. The service is OK, but the runners did get into a squabble right in front of us, which was actually quite funny. The Mud Pie is enough for 2 obese German tourists, so plan accordingly.

Came here knowing that they have steak, seafood, and a beauty view of the ocean. Made a reservation several days in advance and upon arrival, i requested to sit at a window table, agreeing to wait longer for the perfect view. I ended up waiting over an hour past my reservation time, and didn’t even get a window seat, but a booth RIGHTNEXT to the kitchen, where servers would walk by CONSTANTLY. So much for a romantic evening, huh? Ordered a steak, requesting it to be cooked medium rare. The steak came out, and it was bleeding rare. It looked like it had barely been cooked for a minute, then was tossed right onto the plate to be served. The manager walked by our table asking if everything was okay, and took back the steak to have it cooked to what was truly asked of it. Overall, the food was delicious, despite the whole mishap with the steak, and I was very pleased to find creamed spinach on the menu. I also had a Google offer for a free dessert lava cake which is the dessert of which Chart House is known for.

Chart House was thee restaurant of choice for my boyfriend and I. For over 5 years, every birthday, anniversary, Valentine’s, date night– we picked Chart House to celebrate. We even got many of our friends and family addicted to the Cajun Spiced Yellowfin Ahi with spinach and bok choy and, of course, the Chocolate Lava Cake. Yum! So what gives with the one star?! Notice I said ‘was’ the restaurant of choice– we go there maybe once a year now– only because we hope it’s back to the old Chart House that we fell in love with and because we still can’t get enough of that Yellowfin Ahi despite the fact that they cut the portion practically in half and raised the price over 50%!! The old Chart House used to be great(5 star in my opinion) — I think the new management group ruined a the restaurant. The straw that broke the camel’s back was when I found a receipt crumbled up in my Cesar salad! Yes… a receipt! All the manager did was offer to get me a new one and they still expected me to pay for it! I hope that changes are made at Chart House– I would love to change this review and go back…

I wouldn’t go here again. It’s not worth the money and the drive esp if you live far from Malibu neighborhood. But, let me start with the positives. Panoramic view of the malibu ocean. Do sit by the window. It is just beautiful and romantic. The Mixed Seafood Grill($ 32). It had grilled salmon, shrimp scampi, crab cakes, mashed potatoes, and asparagus. I was able to taste variety of seafood, which is always great. Salmon was not too dry and crab cakes were awesome. Now, the negatives. Bronzed Mahi Mahi. It was cooked right, but its seasoning was rather bland. I did taste hint of lemon and butter, which they weren’t really going together for some reason. One portion was just hint of lemon and the other portion was just butter. The fried rice, again it was bland. This is not a $ 40 dish. The service? NOTACCEPTABLE. Our waiter did not come around after he took the menu and brought out the food, literally. He was very negligent in re-filling our lemonades and water. We had to wave our hands and request our drinks to other waiters during dinner. In fact, we actually had to wave at him to bring our check, which took awfully a longgg time, considering that our dinner was at 5pm– definitely not a busy hour. There are many other restaurants with a great view and better food and better service.

Chart House WAS one of my favorite restaurants. Since last year’s Valentine’s Day dinner here wasn’t the usual Chart House excellent standards, my boyfriend and I stayed away. It’s a different restaurant from the one I adored two years ago. Maybe the fact that several locations have closed down has affected the Malibu location. It looks the same. However, service(3 stars) was just okay. Although the menu now includes more Asian ingredients, I think other restaurants execute Asian fusion much better. Therefore, seeing Asian Green Beans on the menu and not the Avocado and Lump Crab Pico(my favorite CH item), was very disappointing. I started with a Peach Sweet Tea(5 stars). This cocktail tasted like Peach Iced Tea and perfectly masked the vodka. We ordered our usual appetizers. The Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail(4 stars) was very fresh, but there was too much horseradish in the cocktail sauce. It had a dry ice presentation, which is something new. The Herb Steamed Artichoke(5 stars) was simple yet satisfying. The herb clarified butter and aioli were perfect. I ordered the Miso Glazed Salmon(3 stars). It sounded good, but the other ingredients ended up masking the salmon. There was just too much going on with the rich glaze and prosciutto. They could have replaced the salmon with chicken, and I probably wouldn’t notice. It’s probably ideal for those who aren’t big fans of fish. I love seafood, and this was disappointing. We always end with the Chocolate Lava Cake(3 stars). There wasn’t much oozing going on, which is what makes the melted chocolate center special. This was just warm and not hot. It also had toffee bits and vanilla ice cream. I used to think this was the best lava cake, but now I’m over it. I miss the old Chart House I fell in love with, which included VIP-like service. I miss the restaurant that was more focused on the quality and simplicity of the seafood. Ingredients and sides should complement and not overwhelm my taste buds. The food is good, but I just didn’t get my money’s worth this time around. This is my farewell since I probably will not return.
